    Mahi fish fajitas
    Jenn C.

Polvos gets 5 stars for me. It's not the service, which is amazing (slow at times) but the mahi mahi fish fajitas. Yes if you know you know. They are fantastic. The mixed vegetables on the bottom served with beans, rice, etc and tortillas....yes yes yes I've been visited all their locations over the year, places that have shut down and the fish fajita never fails me. When I have people come into town, Polvos is high on my list!

Solid Mexican spot! Came here with a friend on a Wednesday after work and was seated promptly with plenty of seating available. We shared the Chile Con Queso which was a solid starter while we waited for our mains. I ordered the Fajitas Ranchera with chicken which was great. Portions are generous so come hungry!

We had the nachos--10/10. The chicken enchilada plate--10/10. Frozen margarita--10/10. Honestly, everything hit. [[HIGHLIGHT]]Service was excellent, and the music was a great mix that really set the vibe.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] The salsa bar added to the whole experience--tons of options at every spice level, so there's something for everyone. Portions are generous without being overwhelming, which I appreciated. [[HIGHLIGHT]]The place was clean all around, including the bathroom (and yes, even the soap was good--details matter!).[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] Quick heads-up: those margaritas are strong--three and you're done, so pace yourself

When I think of Texas I automatically think Tex-mex. And when I think Tex-mex I immediately think of fajitas. Just a month prior I had the most amazing experience with fajitas in Houston. So when I planned this trip to Austin, I tried searching for some great fajitas. I ultimately ended up here and was not a big fan. The fajitas in Austin do not compare to what I had in Houston. The service was a little slow, they weren't that busy and the food was just mediocre at best. We ordered their queso and it came with ground beef. They didn't have just queso on the menu. And we also ordered their chicken & beef fajitas. The queso was very watery and not thick how it's supposed to be. And the fajitas came in the middle us eating the queso. The chicken and beef were chopped small and mixed in with peppers and onions with cheese on the side. The flavor of the dish was good but nothing special. The cheese and lettuce on the side really though me off. Definitely won't be returning here.

A friend was visiting and had a hankering for Polvos. It was a Sunday and a perfect patio morning. It opened at 930 so we got there a bit after it opened. It was perfect timing. [[HIGHLIGHT]]There were plenty of parking spaces and more than enough open tables for us to choose our spot.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] [[HIGHLIGHT]]We had a dog with us and they provided dog bowls and water! :)[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] We had the queso because...you have to get the queso! It's so good. Don't forget to visit the salsa bar inside to grab any salsas you may want. I ordered Huevos a La Mexicana and my friend got tacos. It was so good and our waiter was great. He took good care of us!

3 words- Veggie Goliath Burrito. I have been in love with it and their salsa bar for 10 years. I can't try anything else.

Polvos was and has been a solid Mexican dinner spot on S 1st. I wouldn't wait to eat here but I have no complaints.

So we were thinking of tacos or Mexican food and my daughter suggested this spot as she had come here with some friends and really enjoyed their sopecitos. I had never had a sopecito! What is that! So we had to try... We were lucky to arrive at the right time (9 pm!) where we got their last table!! Make reservations or something because this is another one of those places that fills up! So- we were taken care of immediately: chips and some very hot salsas were set on the table while we chose. They menu is in QR code format, but we asked and got paper menus as well. Well I got the chicken sopecitos , my daughter got the pork ones and my partner got the meat tacos. Everything was delicious, the food arrived promptly, the portion size was perfect and bountiful and everything was super enjoyable. I really enjoyed trying some New Mexican favorites. Next time I will try some other delicacies since I always get tacos tacos burritos or quesadillas: time for some new items on the menu! Enjoy!

Music was so loud in the back room areas that you could not even have a conversation with others at your table. When I asked to have the music turned down, I was ignored. Dishes were on the pricer side. We won't be back.

Varied menu. Daily special/additions. Everything you might want in an interior Mexican restaurant. Frozen margaritas are world class ... best anywhere! The Miguel platter is a wonderful way to start off. Guacamole is best in town. Tasty lamb chops. Must have black beans! I had the pork chop which is a treat! My wife had crab enchiladas, a special, and said they were delicious (with suiza sauce). Beef dishes were a hit too. Tres leeches and flan were well received and the vanilla ice cream and latte were a great end to a wonderful dining experience.

Too much sauce, and it completely drowned out the taste of the crab. My dad got the ancho relleno San Miguel, and I was so jealous. His dish was absolutely divine, incredibly good. I wish I'd ordered that instead. We tried both the watermelon margarita and the house frozen margarita. The watermelon was delicious, but it came in a small glass with a huge ice cube, so for the price you really don't get much drink. I'd order it again if it came in a bigger glass. The house frozen margarita, though, was delicious and strong, and much better value. For dessert, we had the crepas de cajeta. It was tasty, but it came topped with a generous amount of Nutella, which surprised me since the menu mentions caramel, not Nutella. I'd have preferred the caramel, and I'm guessing they may have run out, which would explain the swap. I just wish they'd mentioned it before serving it, since it changed the dish for me. Overall, a great experience and we will definitely be back.
