The only thing that I looked forward to on my trip was to go to Haleakala. I booked this through my concierge for my last day in Maui. The day before I got 3 calls all telling me different times of when to meet; finally The last call said they apologize for the miscommunication but say the time is 2am. We were ready by 2am...long story short, the bus came 15 minutes earlier and then left. When I called the call center, the girl was not apologetic or empathetic. She said they wouldn't turn around to pick us up. When I asked why they didn't call my cell, it turns out they had the wrong number on file. The manager never called me back as I requested even when I left another voice message a couple of days later. I had to jump through hoops but I got my money back. Avoid booking through this agency... poor customer service. read more

We had an excellent experience on the Polynesian Gold Hana tour a couple weeks ago. Lee was our driver and tour guide and he was just the BEST. Informative and funny, Lee made the long day one of the highlights of our trip. You stop several times, meals were fine, and time for a tiny bit of exploring. We swam in the natural pool below a waterfall. If you're looking for hours of hiking and exploring, then this isn't the tour for you. I'm a big fan of Gray Line Tours and that's essentially what Polynesian Adventure Tours is. Same company or affiliation. I've taken lots of Gray Line's tours and knew that I couldn't go wrong doing one in Honolulu as well. We did the Pearl Harbor, Arizona Memorial and Punchbowl tour. Considering that it's a five hour tour, they pick you up and drop you off at your hotel and you can use your AAA card, it's a great value at around $27 per person. The driving portion got a little much around the end and I would have loved to have had the opportunity to get out of the bus at Punchbowl. I fully realize though that the bus is not allowed and out of respect for the people buried here, it's just not appropriate. Our driver was great, full of anecdotes and information. He did have a thick accent and it was hard to understand him at times. I completely recommend this tour as well as Polynesian Adventure Tours of course. Good bang for your tourist buck! read more

I purchased the GROUPON deal for Grand Circle Island Tour. $35 for two people, so I couldn't pass that up. I was a little iffy about this tour, but we had a nice and funny driver ED! We went around the whole island. You get can some amazing pictures at the stops and lookouts. You get an hr lunch stop at Kaula Ranch and get a free legacy tour on their tram. Many Photo Ops and checking out the Biyodo in temple was awesome. Also free macadamia nut samples and kona coffee at the farm and then spend about 30 mins at dole plantation. It was nice not to take in the breath taking island views especially from the other side of the island instead of waikiki. It is a fully day so expect to be back around 530-630 pm depending on your hotel stay! read more

We booked the Gray Line Grand Circle Island Tour, which starts in the morning at 8:15 and ends at 5:45. We saw the entire island, from Diamond Head to the North Shore, to Kualoa Ranch the Byodo Temple (a Buddhist Temple) to the Dole Plantation and much more in between. The tour bus was very nice, air conditioned, the driver giving interesting stories about the Island. It was a wonderful way to really explore the island, take some beautiful pictures, and learn about the culture. read more

Had a wonderful time on their sunrise Haleakala tour. Everything was planned out very well and ran on schedule. We got picked up outside our resort at crack of dawn but it was all worth it. Our driver was very enthusiastic and kept us awake with facts about Hawaii and Maui as well as the local species of birds and plants. We were happy we did this in the beginning of our trip because if gave us a better understanding of the island. He also told us what restaurants we must try which was helpful. It was very very cold up at the summit so dress warm and bring gloves. The views were amazing if the stars before the sun rose and the sunrise itself was awe inspiring. April 2021- happy they were able to pick us up at our hotel because it was impossible to rent a car. Pickup was 2:30 AM. I booked online and received email and phone confirmation the day prior. DRESS WARM. Bring your winter gear to Maui!!!!! Boots, hat, gloves, big puffy coat, plus blankets. It is 30 degrees plus windy at the top of Haleakala. Driver Dino was respectful and a good, safe driver. I felt comfortable with him in the driver's seat on all those curves with no guard rail. He dropped us off at 5 AM and it was pitch black with every single star in the sky and the moon is hanging suspended in front of you. Saw several shooting stars. Then the sunrise and wow you are blown away. Dino said on the way down that the sunrise signifies a new beginning and you leave your problems back behind on the mountain. How peaceful and uplifting. Made the whole trip worth it. Breakfast was spectacular and organized. Hot coffee, pancakes , eggs , bacon, omelette , etc. we were back at our hotel by 10 AM. The tour overall, for the ticket price, is worth it. Our family of four went on the Gold package which included lunch and it was a good value for the dollar. On the way up you drive through beautiful rainforests and curvy roads. The driver is informative and gives a lot of good info - wish he was more interactive with the visitors. On the way down, you go through the back side -- very bumpy and not as beautiful. This is when you realize it's a very long day. I was very thankful our driver was competent and made us feel safe as the roads were precarious in some spots. Overall, a good day -- just very long. I do think it was better to take the tour vs drive ourselves because it would have been hard to see anything other than focusing on the road. And we learned about a lot of things we wouldn't have known otherwise. Not going to do this again though - once is enough! read more

Just got off the Hana Gold Adventure Tour and I have a few things to say that should be able to assist anyone looking for recommendations. Firstly, this tour is not a bad tour if you are looking to learn about general botany or island history. Very informative on these topics from our driver Sal. However, do not let the name fool you, there is no adventure here. Your largest stops are two highly congested areas that are easily located on Google Maps. There is no Tranquil view at lunch, the food wasn't bad at all, but it is inside pop up tents and a marketplace that is, seemingly, pushed on you. There absolutely needs to be a disclaimer that anyone who gets motion sickness easily should not that this tour. The last couple of hours are on unpaved and destroyed gravel roads. In fact I would say once you really get out of Hana proper there isn't really much more to the tour than a few photo ops that seemed selected at the last second to avoid everyone on the bus from falling asleep (or at least trying to sans the terrible roads). Lastly, for the tour portion, there was no final scenic views. We had to be asked if anyone needed to use the restroom...after over 2 hours of not having one. So the answer was resoundingly yes. A few minor nitpicks. First, if a guest isn't on time outside their hotel and does not answer their phone, the rest of your guests should not need to suffer the inconvenience of having to go back to get a single guest who did not have the courtesy to be ready on time. The same can be said when a guest leaves a personal item behind and then remembers it was forgotten. There should be contingencies in place for situations like these that do not affect the rest of your guests. There also needs to be strict, I'll emphasize strict, policy of the application of bug sprays or lotions inside the tour bus. Zero tolerance to be more precise. Outside of the bus is absolutely acceptable, but to apply those items in a very tight and closed in bus, without the proper ventilation is inexcusable. When I brought this up to our driver Sal, he barely even acknowledged what I said. It is the duty of the guide to address these situations. Again, to be clear this isn't a bad tour but it needs fine tuning. I would have preferred more time at the pools and black sand beaches as opposed to the 15 stops to talk about fruit. Adventure is a misleading title, but that is not something I would wager would ever be changed. It is too much of a buzzword. I can't recommend it in its current form, but again, it has a lot of potential or appeal to certain people. **not child friendly, do not bring children, children should not be allowed. ***Going to update this rating solely due to fantastic customer service from another tour. I appreciate it when anyone reaches out on a concern and as stated above, this wasn't a bad tour at all. Just needs a bit of fine tuning. read more

Did the Oahu circle tour with Kimo as a way to get an overview of the island, and then maybe in the future plan our own solo trips. The sites visited were hit and miss depending on personal tastes (so I won't detail those individually and am keeping this to the tour as a whole), but the sights we witnessed and were able to enjoy without looking at maps or the road were absolutely glorious regardless of whether we'd visit them again. The tour package was well worth it and felt good value for money. First of all, with new pandemic regulations kicking in the company was professional and empathetic. Driver communicated clearly and concisely. Onto the tour... the driver was key to how much fun this was for us. A comedian with some awesome humor and groan-inducing at time too... Fantastic for setting a light mood and maintaining it throughout the day with well-spoken delivery. Key people management skills, so a rock star. More importantly, mixed personal anecdotes, with island and cultural observations, with history and opinions with excellent balance. Felt like we learned about the beautiful history of this rich culture and island without being bombarded. Did I say how much fun Kimo made this? Lunch at Waimea Falls very good. Amount of time at each stop, depends on personal preference. Thought it was decent, but we were lucky the rest of the party was respectful and the guide didn't end up "herding cats." So, want an overview of Oahu, ask for Kimo, respect the time requests, and prepare to laugh. Almost forgot we were wearing our masks for over eight hours! Also, respect to our fellow travelers, you were a fun group to share this experience with. Would recommend to friends visiting for the first time. PS. Kimo had to deal with a guest issue during our tour, details not mattering, and was highly professional in ensuring the care and safety of that guest before we continued onwards. We also got to see the island people climb the Palm trees to get coconuts and drop them down. What's funny, is one of these guys drops one on the other guys head and he acts like he's injued...(part of the show) The tour in the boat is astounding and the night show with the fire is something you must see.. A lot of these islanders that are in these shows are mostly college kids there studying and use this show for extra income....but there cool...... We just got back from the Night Market at Residence Inn Kapolei where Polynesian Adventure Tours provided the parking lot shuttle service to and from Kapolei HS parking lot. My family and I bought our tickets through Groupon. When I made the phone call to book the tour the person on the phone qas rude and did not sound like she cared at all. I did not get her name. Now the tour. Garfield is actually what convienced me to give this tour 5 stars. We got picked up right on time. The bus was nice, clean and comfortable. The bus was roomy and my 6'6" boyfriend was able to sit comfortably. Garfield was very friendly and amazing. He made us feel welcome and would answer any questions anyone had. He is well informed and knew so much information about the island. I love the stories he told us. He also pointed out areas in the island that would overlook or drive by. We used their Haleakala sunrise tour in Maui, Hawaii, and have no complaints. Note that we booked online and didn't see an option for pick up from our hotel so we had to pick a hotel a few blocks away, but they called us a day before and fixed that. They picked us up at 2.30am (yes that's what this takes) from Lahaina. Preston was our "transfer driver" who dropped us off to a transfer station in Kahului. He was really fun and charming and we had fun chatting, even at that time of the night. Then we were transferred to Dindoh who seems laid back at the beginning, but if you pay attention, he is very knowledgeable and throws in jokes when you least expect. The sunrise itself was marvelous. Make no mistake, it is VERY COLD (feels like 15 degrees or such) when you get there, about 45 min before sunrise, so dress VERY warm(I wore four layers, beanie and gloves). You're at 10000 feet, above the clouds and seeing the sun come up on the horizon over those 45 min. Next they drove us to a restaurant at 3000 feet, which was also great, and then back to our transfer station and eventually back to our hotel, while listening to lots of history by Dindoh. The tour isn't cheap, but so aren't most things in Hawaii, but everything was in place and we enjoyed it. read more

Everything was on track, the tour to Hana was beautiful. The complimentary breakfast was ok, nothing spectacular just a few pastries, fruit, coffee and juice. The lunch in Hana was good, I had a vegetarian wrap and I believe the veggies are grown on that property Hana Fresh, which is very cool. Lots of stops along the way and lots to see from waterfalls to the beautiful ocean. Be prepared because this tour is long about 12 hours (pick up to drop off). Our driver was very knowledgeable but he had a bit of road rage in him. Not a good example of the aloha spirit. There were a couple of kids in the tour that did not need to see that kind of example. read more

She was a local and knew the best spots to take pics at and even showed us things that she knew growing up in Maui vs a tour guide who can tell you things from a guide book. Seriously-- she even stopped on the side to pluck fresh strawberry guavas for us to try. She knew when to take the perfect shot while on the bus. Awful Tour Driver Our Haleakala Sunrise tour was completely spoiled by our driver whose non-stop babbling evolved from annoying to obnoxious to ultimately making us wish we had been born deaf! Our driver was physiologically unable to shut her mouth. There were extraordinarily condescending references to a "handsome" 93 year old man and a "beautiful" 94 year old woman. Repeated (over and over and over) dialogue about the draconian rules of the National Park. Periodic warnings about exploding chip bags and eardrums because of pressure changes. Oh, the wonders of ginger! Our driver's Greatest Hits included "Take only photos, leave only footprints," "knowledge is power," the superiority of aloha culture, singing loudly along with the radio, and perhaps worst of all, non-stop gabbing over the PA system after she promised to be quiet and let the passengers sleep! You get the idea. It was so bad that on arrival at the golf course for our (included) breakfast, we skipped the meal, called Uber, and paid $37 to get back to our hotel and away from our driver. Polynesian adventure tours. Not worth your time or money! We paid about $400 for two of us for a simple breakfast and a sandwhich for lunch. Loooooooooong bus ride with stops for like 5 to 10 minutes of plants to the left and plants to the right. I learned all about ginger as it was mentioned about 4637462528 times on our tour. The longest stop was at one waterfall for like 30 min and we pretty much got in the water, got out and went back on the bus. If you are a thrill seeker like my husband and myself, that wanted to go to the pools and waterfalls, DO NOT GO ON THIS BUS RIDE!!!!!! My husband was bored out of his mind and when I told him it's not too bad. He said "Everyone on this bus is sleeping" I turned around and sure enough everyone was sleeping. I said "not true the guy who had to ride passenger is awake" as I said it, man fell asleep that was probably the highlight of our tour, us laughing because our guide put everyone to sleep. He was very nice and informative but will not be doing this again and will not recommend it especially not families with kids. Look into a personal tour guide or drive yourself if you're feeling brave! Do not get stuck on a bus for the entire day though. We did the Haleakala sunrise tour on our first morning in Maui. Since we were still on PST the 3:10am pick up time was not an issue for us. Nettie, our fearless driver, charming tour guide, and talented photographer, picked us up last after collecting all those staying on the westside. No worries, last pick up means first drop off. I was a little surprised by the size of the bus, I had envisioned a 12-seater but it was full with 24 passengers. 1st Tip - Pack chewing gum, ginger, bottle water, and a light snack. Our first stop was a convenience store for restrooms and a chance to purchase snacks & drinks. Just use the restrooms, if necessary, and hustle back on the bus to beat the other cars up the mountain. 2nd tip - going up the view will be on the left side (facing the front) and vice versa when going down. As we headed up the mountain, we all started chewing gum to combat the altitude. Second stop was the visitor center for our final restroom break before reaching the summit. Still trying to beat other cars to the summit so hustle back to the bus. We did get stuck behind a frightened driver, who made the stupid and inconsiderate decision to drive themselves up, and made me worry we wouldn't arrive in time for the sunrise. Luckily, we made it and had an hour to soak it all in and fill up all our memory cards. Nettie had the heater on when we got back on the bus and we got to enjoy coffee/tea/hot cocoa and pastries. We made a fourth stop at another elevated point to get some great views and shots before heading back down to the visitor center for restrooms. Our final stop was at the Maui Lani Golf course for breakfast, where the service was excellent and the food on par with a Denny's. Overall, it was a good idea to do the tour rather than drive ourselves up BUT it was Nettie who made the tour great and it really showed how much she enjoyed her job and cared for her environment. Final tip - if not staying on the westside request to be picked up at the convenience store from the first stop or at the Maui Lani Golf course. read more

Their confirmation email indicates that we should call and confirm pick-up time a day or so before the tour. I did so on Tuesday morning, 4/25/17 when I landed in Maui. The operator at first thought I had booked for 4, so I assured her it was just for the two of us (and I only paid for 2...), so she said she would go ahead and cancel the double booking. I even got a confirmation email later that evening for our tour the next day..so far so good? At 2:15 AM, hubs and I sleepily made our way to the Sheraton pick up spot and waited with 4 other guests for the PolyAd bus to arrive. They were on time, but I noticed the driver only addressed the 4 other guests and ignored Hubs and I the entire time. What gives? Turns out, he didn't have us in his route pick-up. We showed him a printed out confirmation along with my email confirmation so the driver got on the phone with HQ. 10 agonizing minutes of "how many people am I supposed to pick up? I only have 4 in my list..I won't have enough spots." until we were finally told to get on board. Once we got to the first pit stop, we waited another 15 mins to see if the next bus would have room for us. Alas - they did! Too bad we had to go through this headache first... Nontheless, Wayne, our tour guide was great! He was full of knowledge, took care of us, drove the roads expertly, and was super funny. We were treated to the most spectacular sunrise ever. It was breathtaking. Make sure you layer up - the wind is NO JOKE. Breakfast was adequate and we got back to the hotel at 11:00 AM. Not sure what went wrong with the reservation (I suspect the "double booking cancellation" ended up cancelling our entire reservation...).
