Can't go wrong with a place that does a good brunch. Pomegranate Restaurant seems to be a local favorite & I can see why. Started of with the different flavored mimosa. The pomegranate version might be my new fav! The glasses are long & they didn't skimp us on the bubbly which made it worth the $7.00. There were so many food options to consider. The food had a very "homemade" taste. Some places don't understand simple seasoning and flavor in breakfast items but Pomegranate Restaurant gets it right without overdoing it. Had I known how big the portions were, I definitely would have chosen to share instead of getting my own. The Oreo pancakes are huge! You will easily be full or have leftovers. Additionally, I like that you can downsize or get half orders of many things on the menu. I was very happy with my Popeye skillet. My only problem is that I need to get back here more often so I can try everything else. read more

In reading an article which was written in the Aurora Beacon News a couple of years ago, owners Chris and Patty were quoted as saying, "We have many regulars...It's like they're part of the family." It's a feeling I have had personally, because this restaurant has been a part of my life, and my life with Virginia. Virginia and I used to come here before we were married. For me, Pomegranate has always been a place with warm, friendly service and good food. Last night was special for me. We had just finished Easter Service at Calvary and Virginia's daughter and her family were coming down from Hanover Park to join us for dinner. I had called the restaurant earlier yesterday morning just to be sure of their hours. Pomegranate.opens at 7:00 AM and closes at 9 PM Thursday through Saturday. Sunday through Wednesday Pomegranate opens at 7:00 AM and closes at 4:00 PM. When I called I told them we would have a party of six, and when we arrived after service the hostess was sure they had a table already prepared. Not so fast. When I had called that morning I was told I didn't need a reservation. We gladly sat at our table while we waited for the rest of our party to join us. Later that "other" party of seven showed up, and Chris sprang into action arranging tables and chairs just like it was normal restaurant stuff, only I, Chris and maybe that other party knew any different. Okay, now everyone knows. And (I know I'm not supposed to start a sentence with a conjunction, BUT it's important.) Chris always treats all his patrons this way. That's why I love this place. When we came in Chris was talking with our Virginia and they were talking about how Greek Orthodox celebrates Easter on the same Sunday as other Christian denominations once every three years. I'm 65 and I didn't know that. So, Virginia's daughter had pancakes because you can order breakfast any time. Virginia and I tried the Roast Beef panting which was very good, and it comes with fries and soup so I had the baked French Onion, and yes I started peeling off the cheese which had caked on the bowl because "it's so good". So whether it's a coffee while waiting for Virginia to finish her piano lesson, or family celebrating someone who just graduated college with honors I'm sure we will be seeing Pomegranate again real soon. We frequently stop at Pomegranate Cafe since it's just a few blocks from our house. Great little casual place with generous portions and standard comfort food. Nothing mind blowing, but all is solidly executed. Wait staff is friendly. Owner is kind of grumpy, but I find that charming, especially after Gigi's cafe is no longer :-) Another plus is the late-ish hours and the full bar. Hope this place sticks around! read more

I went to Pomegranate Restaurant yesterday morning and I should have picked a different restaurant. I order the crepe sampler with eggs and bacon. The single crepe was horrible, almost like it was deep fried in old grease from a carnival food truck. It not only tasted horrible but looked bad too. The bacon was weird, like it was fake. My friend also ordered a sampler but with pancakes, he said his scrambled eggs were pretty bad. The staff was friendly and they had a clean facility. Overall, I will not be going back there. Hands down my FAVORITE brunch spot in the area! The patio is awesome. Nice to come on the weekends with family/friends and enjoy the mimosas and bloody marys! Mediocre to poor food and service . Came here for my boyfriend's 48th bday dinner with family and friends. Dirty dishes & utensils. I got the onion soup- it was gooey cheesy which is good, but the broth was way too salty; not enough actual onions in it. Ordered the chicken quesadilla for entree- bland, cold. This restaurant is too restrictive with substituting things on the menu to try to eat low carb. Being a diabetic I have to watch my carb intake. After saying no bun, no fries and no cream soup they refused to substitute that with a little side salad. Although I dropped over 1/2 the parts of my meal they wanted to charge me an extra 4 bucks for a simple side salad. Really? That's a no for me. Their food isn't that good anyway and for them to be so rigid on substituting for healthier choices is not the service THIS customer wants to receive. read more

Had breakfast this morning. I got the Pomegranate Benedict which was English muffin, ham, asparagus and poached egg minus hollandaise. It came with a large side of hash browns which were delish! The wife got the Tijuana skillet and added pepper jack cheese with a side of pancakes. Coffee was good and hot and the server kept it flowing! We will definitely be back. On first walking in, this restaurant looked very similar to an IHOP, although much cleaner. That said, that's where the comparison ends. The food far exceeded anything we would have gotten at IHOP. The menu was pretty hard to choose from, considering the decadent sounding sweet stuff and then the more protein-based items. Our server was exceptional, providing friendly and efficient service. Our food was delicious. After years of ordering "soft scrambled" for my egg type in a skillet breakfast, this is the first time that any restaurant has nailed it spot-on. Added bonus to get to upgrade the side of pancakes with a stack of banana/chocolate-chip topped pancakes. Only downside: Too many yummy sounding things to make a decision that won't carry at least a little bit of regret for not getting to try the other menu items. I'll definitely return if I'm ever in the area around breakfast time again... so much more is left to try!! read more

Worth the wait! One of the best Mexican-styled skillets I've had in a long time. Upgraded pancakes for $0.50 to the pumpkin and they were great too! They gave our baby her own Mickey Mouse pancake on the house which was very thoughtful. The staff and owner are super friendly and helpful. The only thing keeping me from giving 5 stars was the sour cream I got was still frozen but they quickly replaced it for 2 nonfrozen ones. read more

We've been wanting to stop in here for quite awhile now. So nice to see a breakfast place with vegan options for our dairy free kids. However, if you're coming for the vegan (or even just dairy free options), don't get too excited. I was hoping some of the fun items (pancakes, French toast, waffles etc) might be dairy free, but I was immediately informed that "all of our items have dairy." We did work out a dairy free omelet, but it arrived with cheese. The waitress caught it as it was placed in front of our daughter (she said she didn't tell the cooks "no cheese"‍), so luckily she didn't eat it, but then she had to sit and watch everyone else eat for ten minutes (or we could have let our food get cold). The food we had was good and our waitress was kind, but if you're going to advertise vegan options, you have to up your game. Knowing that cheese is dairy will be a good start. Luckily our restrictions are metabolic rather than a life threatening allergy. Compared to other places we eat, I would not be confident ordering here again. read more

I used to like this place but I noticed that the owner is very mean to his employees. One time was particularly bad when he really berated a busboy who actually had greeted me originally and showed me to a booth. The owner was berating him about something right in front of everyone there. Yet the waitress I had was really rude to me Never came by to check on me. I had to ask a different waitress for a box. Instead of getting me a box herself she went all the way over to my original waitress (who was chatting away with a coworker) to get me the box. She brought it to me but it was too small She rudely said "she said you asked for a small box"---like it was my fault. Rude! I also discovered they do not make you food to order. Once on a take out order I asked for crispy hash browns. My order came with very very minimal hash browns. So, what they did was just pick out the crispy ones from What must be a huge vat of hash browns sitting there all day. That was my last order from this place. read more

TRY POMEGRANATE AGAIN....BETTER THAN EVER!!! If you are like us, you went to Pomegranate when it opened. It was good. Then it took a huge downturn. I won't focus on the negative except to say we wouldn't go there for two years. Then a friend told us, "You have to go back, they fixed EVERYTHING!" Almost a year ago now, the current management team took over. Pomegranate is WONDERFUL now. The servers are great- friendly, know what they're doing. Food is delicious. Big portions, fresh tasting and is prepared in a timely manner (that had been an issue with the previous management). The restaurant is clean, well-kept and I get the impression that the staff is honestly happy that you are there. They are working SO HARD at bringing back all the wonderful people that the previous team scared off. Please, try Pomegranate again. You will be so happy you did. Chris, the owner/manager, honestly seems to want you there and cares that everything was up to your expectations. I think we were there only two times before he recognized us and treated us as family (hell, better than family:) ) Anyway, Pomegranate is great again. It's so nice to have a restaurant like this so close by. My kids love it, my parents love it when they're in town- everyone's happy. That's all you can ask for. read more

This is an adequate breakfast spot. A typical but pretty expansive menu. They offer pretty much everything you'd want. The pluses here are the attentiveness and friendly service. It's also quite clean. The high chair (which most parents know typically looks rough) was in good shape and so was the restroom. The food is fine but not the highlight. read more

Let me preface this with a couple of caveats: I went for breakfast and did not have anything from the bar! The coffee is very disappointing which for me is a deal killer and unforgiveable. It was watery, bland and if you go order tea! It is not that difficult to brew a rich robust cup of coffee. And then there's the eggs. My eggs were over medium in the Popeye Skillet. One if my eggs broke and the yolk was already oozing and congealed. The dish was called "Popeye" because it had spinach. Spinach was chiffonaded like basil and barely there. And in this dish the bacon was in crispy shards throughout. Not memorable! My dining companion had a "Benedict" dish with hard poached eggs that were so hard they looked like walnuts! There was a side of pancakes that needed just another half minute on the griddle to not taste gummy. Many of the reviews rave about lunch... I can't speak on that, but I'll go elsewhere for my next breakfast. On a positive note service was great, friendly and prompt. read more

The food is always excellent and I have never had any issue with the restraunts large and extensive menu. The staff is great and always does their job. The decor is fantastic and feels welcoming. All of the food is homemade and it shows in the quality. The owner and managers are constantly there, greeting the customers but not uncomfortably scoring employees for their mistakes. Having read all the 4-Star and 5-Star reviews about Pomegranate Cafe, we decided to take the drive and try this place. Bottom line is that we probably won't go back. Decor is a typical 'greek restaurant' - floral and a lot of pink/peach colors. Despite at least 10 booths being empty, we ended up waiting about 10 minutes to sit because the party in front of us (7) was waiting for their table to be set. Why not ask them to step aside and seat everyone else who is waiting in line? The good - portions are BIG, and the side of pancakes was both BIG and good - fluffy pancakes made just right. The average - eggs and sausage were OK. The 'cinnamon/apple' breakfast sausage was OK, but overcooked and burned. The regular breakfast sausage portion is very big, but average. Potato pancakes (option) were OK - a bit mushy and heavy on onion. Coffee was warm, not hot....tasted OK. The bad - 'hash browns' or what they call hash brown potatoes are really just sliced white potatoes burned on a grill; yes, Burned on one side, mashed on the other.....with no flavor. In fact, the potatoes and sausage and bacon were all over cooked....disappointing. So, an overall 'average' breakfast.....'I've experienced better' is the appropriate rating. read more

My first experience at Pomegranate was a positive one and my boyfriend and I will definitely go back. After having a poor experience at Mimi's Cafe (clearly we were silly for going there first) we headed over to Pomegranate. Upon arrival, we were greeted by a friendly host who immediately seated us at a booth. Within seconds we had glasses of water in front of us. This might not seem like a big deal, but after being at Mimi's, the reception at Pomegranate made a huge difference. Our waitress was extremely friendly and attentive. Our breakfasts were very good. I had the Alpine, which was two eggs, three potato pancakes and sausage. My boyfriend had the Tijuana skillet (and one of my potato pancakes). This restaurant exceeded all of my expectations in every aspect. My wife and I went in, impromptu, after reading the reviews here and being in the area. We walked n and were seated promptly by (who turned out to be) the owner. After sitting a few minutes and perusing the Greek inspired menu, the owner came over to ask if we had been helped yet. With a no response, I continued with a question... "What's do you recommend?" His eyes lit up as he asked if this was our first time. I responded yes, and his excitement to talk of the menu grew. This passion from the people running a restaurant is what makes one great. I asked about one of my Greek favorites, the souvlaki. He literally guaranteed it was the best I'd ever had. Literally. He continued about the Greek chicken, one of my wife's favorites, and ended the conversation by offering to buy us cocktails, since it was our first time and all. WHAT?!?! Really? So we settled on the Greek chicken and the Souvlaki, and Saganaki to start us off. The saganaki was very good, large portion, and a uniquely creamy center. We loved it. The pork was tender and flavorful as was the pilaf. Too often, the pilaf is rice. I mean just rice. A filler of sorts. This was tender and flavorful, played nicely with the souvlaki. My wife's chicken was equally as amazing. Really really delicious, with no additional trimming needed. My wife is a trimmer, and believe me when I say that if you trimmed anything off this chicken it would just have been meat. White, tender, succulent meat. Although the portions were large, my wife and I let no challenge go unanswered. We forced every bit delicious bite down. Fully satisfied, we talked over the meal as the waitress approached. "What would you like for dessert? It's on the owner, he insisted" Oh boy, another challenge? I thought. Well with the delicious selections of death by chocolate, strawberry cheesecake, carrot cake, etc... we couldn't resist, and didn't. We both had the cheesecake, said our thanks, and rolled out of there. I wish I knew the name of the owners (his wife was there too) as well as the waitress. Everyone who we had any dealings with us treated us as though we had trekked the scape for thousands of miles and landed on their doorstep tired, hungry, cold, and penniless. VERY gracious people.
