We made a reservation to celebrate my mother in-laws birthday. This cute and charming restaurant is quite small on the interior but had seating outside. We were sat inside in the room next to the bar and we had the interior to ourselves for the majority of the meal. This was appreciated as I had my 19 month old daughter with us who was loud and wanting to move around. We ended up having to take several trips outside to appease her and not annoy the staff too much. We were treated graciously in spite of my child being a little terrorist. The staff were great, the beer and wine menu were insanely large and there was a great selection of food. My short ribs were heavenly and I practically licked my plate clean. This place gets one star because the beef short ribs gave my friend food poisoning, and the absolute baffling way that management and ownership handled it in the aftermath. We went for Valentine's Day last week, which I understand- it was a Saturday, a romantic holiday, a long weekend where many had off from work and school, and Modernism Week in Palm Springs. So it was beyond crowded which would naturally mean longer wait times and extra grace. But we made reservations about a month prior for 7pm, arrived 8 minutes before, and sat out in the cold (heat lamp was out of propane and no one told us) for 2.5 hours before receiving our entrees. Jasmine ordered 2 Cosmos, I ordered a French 75 and Cosmo; we both got escargot; I got the duck and she had the short ribs; I got tiramisu but they ran out of the dessert she ordered, so she pivoted to crème brûlée which she ended up not liking. She had some of my duck (which was dry and tasted like orange chicken) and I had some of her crème brûlée but did not touch the short ribs. Shortly after returning to our hotel, Jasmine was throwing up. I felt so guilty recommending such a place so I left a bad review on Google. Somehow, this is where it all gets so much worse. Sure they comped one round of drinks to excuse the 3 hours we spent at the restaurant, but things are different now: your food made my friend sick, so why would you expect her to want to pay $85 for that? They (incorrectly) mansplained how food poisoning works to her, they accused her of "bitching", they refused to refund her until I would take my bad Google review down (I did not.) We have since reported them to the Riverside County Department of Environmental Health and wrote a few more reviews each. Even JC's responses to these Yelp reviews are insane! If a restaurant is this flippant about their own food and health safety, then I do not understand how they are still in business. Site says Starter = Rustic French Demi Baguette. We did not receive that. We both ordered escargots as app. Site claims Chateau Steak & Bone Marrow was entree option, but it wasn't. I got Boneless Beef Short Ribs. Chelsea got Half A Duck L'Orange (not on site). Dessert: Chelsea, Tiramisu. Me, Chocolate Mousse. Ordered all 3 courses @ same time. Sat on patio w/heat lamps. Ours had no propane & all other tanks empty. Server offered a sweater. Nice, but not appropriate solution. I had a Cosmo, Chelsea a French 75. Escargots came @ 7:20. We heard ppl complaining they'd been waiting over an hour for entrees. Us too. Came @ 8:37. Had 2nd round of drinks while waiting, both got Cosmos. Food wasn't hot. Duck was dry. Tasted good, so didn't complain. 9:20 server says out of mousse. I didn't want anything else, ordered creme brulee to get $'s worth. Desserts ~9:30. Bill came. I mention heat lamp, long wait times, lack of mousse & ask, "Is there anything u can do to help us w/the bill?" Server spoke w/manager & 2 Cosmos comped. Paid @ 9:42. 12:30am I was involuntarily vomiting. Chelsea didn't get sick but left a review same night. I called 2/15 & spoke w/Sun saying I believe the short ribs made me sick & requested a partial refund. Sun knew who I was b/c she saw Chelsea's review. She said "there's no way" the food made me sick. "We sold 50 short ribs that night! No one else got sick! Maybe u just didn't digest well. It can't have been food poisoning that quick! U can Google it." Food poisoning ABSOLUTELY can manifest in 4 hours. Google "how quickly vomit after food poisoning" & results say "1-6 hours after consuming contaminated food." I reiterated other issues. She said, "Everyone was busy! Everyone had problems!" Maybe true, but not an excuse for overbooking beyond capacity to serve. She said drinks were comped & I agreed that'd been satisfactory til I threw up. Sun offered to comp a meal on next visit, but I had no intention to return. Sun said speak to JC for refund, but he wasn't available. Called back 2/16 @ 4:04. Staff says JC in at 6. Called back @ 6:32. Sun answers, says too busy, says call @ 10 when closed. Sun answers @ 10, gives phone to JC. JC asks how much $ I want back. I say $85. He was reluctant but agreed, handed phone back to Sun. Sun says she needs my credit card & phone # but adds, "You need to take the review down." I say, "I didn't post it, but I can ask Chelsea to remove it AFTER I get my refund." Sun insists review must be removed 1st. I say I'm not comfortable w/that & JC didn't say that was required. Hands phone back to JC. He says review must be removed to get refund. I repeat I'm not comfortable w/that. JC says, "Who's calling the shots here? Our food didn't make you sick. I don't know what you drank," insinuating I threw up b/c I was drunk. He says, "You're not the only one b****ing about service. U want ur money back, I'll give u ur money back. But 1st u have to take down the review." I told JC if he gave me a refund first I would gladly have Chelsea's review removed. If not, I would write an additional negative review. JC refused to refund unless Chelsea's review came down first. So I said, "I'll be writing my own negative review & never returning" & he hung up. Upper mngmt has no respect or integrity. Idk if they hid/flagged Chelsea's (Google) review as fake, but I don't see it rn. It's clear reviews hold importance to the business. Hope this one stays up. read more

Pomme Frite is a charming, intimate café. Great for couples or small parties. Service was attentive and super friendly. I was intrigued by the menu because I remembered how good the food was in Belgium and France when I visited last. I ordered the tenderloin medallions and my husband ordered the mussels. Both entrées were generously portioned, perfectly prepared, and deliciously seasoned. As expected, the pommes frite were double fried and served with mayo. We had intended to come here several times, but for one reason or another (one day it was closed, another day there were no tables, etc.) we have not been able. We finally got lucky today. It was a weekday at lunch, and although there were several people, there was plenty of room for us. The decor is just what you would expect - casual with a European twist. This place serves french and Belgian food, and there are several Belgian decor touches, including a couple of references to the Mannequin Pis, which I remember from a trip to Brussels. Hubby was on medication which kept him from drinking alcohol, so in support, I did not order glass of wine. :-( Started with an order of six escargot, had lots of delicious garlic butter, just the way I like it. We ordered a Caesar salad with salmon. It was cuz you would expect, and delicious. We also ordered the special of the day which was couscous with lamb sausage, chicken leg, and roasted vegetables. Pomme Frite brought us right back to drinking wine from a carafe and eating mussels and a baguette in France. From the " madame et monsieur " greeting to our server from France, we loved the authenticity of Pomme Frite. We loved the beet and goat cheese salad, as well as the drunken Mediterranean mussels. Disagree with other reviewers who rave about this place. Our experience was considerably less than what other reviewers said. Restaurant had 10 guests and we waited forever to get a cocktail ordered. No excuse for the wait. Chicken Coq au Vin was edible but nothing to write home about except for the frites. Trout Almandine was tasteless and only time in my life when I was forced to add salt to a fish entree to give it some flavor. Green beans were good. Overall, service was very poor and very, very slow since there was only one server for the entire restaurant. There are plenty of other better restaurants in this town. Wow wow wow! Lovely food and lovely service on Christmas ! My partner and I were raving about the food and our server ( who used to live near us in LA). I was just saying " oh wow i will definitely come back here ". As we were paying our check in cash and after leaving a cash tip for our amazing server... we received our change for our bill from whom I'm guessing is the owners wife .. i said " i don't need the change ( or was about 3 dollars) . IN FRONT of the entire restaurant she tells me what i should be tipping our server. I said " yes i know I already tipped him". She asked a DIFFERENT server and he shrugged. Again in front of the other diners. I'm beyond mortified and angry at this point . I said " our server was .." and pointed. It got cleared up but not before i thanked her for ruining our experience and Christmas Dinner. She never apologized and only said it was a misunderstanding. Beyond insulting. The gravy doesn't really save it. Kinda found the host to be rude most of all. I think they need a friendlier host. Just looking over the menu brought me back memories of eating buckets of mussels at Belgo in London during my past business travels. Our food took a while to come out but it was worth the wait! Sitting on the patio and enjoying Belgian Cherry Beef (La Chouffe) made the wait somewhat bearable. You can order a pound of mussells and they'll have maybe half-dozen flavor options. We went with bacon, mushrooms and cream - absolutely perfect with those plump mussels. (5 stars) For non-mollusk eaters, I also enjoyed their penne pasta with grilled chicken. Moist, juicy chicken with broccoli and sun-dried tomatoes make for a lighter, healthier dish. Pasta was cooked al dente too - and not rubbery. (5 stars) We were hoping to get a burger for our 3yo son but all they had was Steak Hache, which is basically a minced beef patty only with fries and a salad. Fries were crispy and good. The Steak Hache was good, though I did see some pink parts despite asking for medium. French and Belgian cuisines often include steak tartare which is essentially raw, so I guess that's fine (4 stars). Definitely an excellent place to get mussels on Palm Springs, and don't sleep on the pasta either - excellent preparation, Maybe another tip is to order extra fries! read more

Well it is the 25th Anniversary for this bistro in Downtown Palm Springs and they are celebrating with a Prix Fixe menu with all of their great dishes. That Lady and started with French Martinis, par excellence, a followed with a Caesar salad, for her, and modules and clams for moi. That Lady followed steak medallions and I jumped at Duck La Orange, both were superb. Dessert consisted Mouse de chocolate and Rum baba for yours truly. The mussels broth was outstanding. My steak and fries were delicious. I loved the whole tomato served with the meal. My husband had the fish dish and it was cooked perfectly. We sat outdoors and it was lovely sitting outside in Palm Springs. The service is the reason I am giving this restaurant four stars as the food was five stars. Alas, I did not feel the love. I've been to French restaurants that have a hospitable soul. Pomme Frite felt cold and impersonal. Additionally, the service was, dare I say, messy. Unfortunately, the service here was not good. We sat down and didn't get asked about drinks for probably 15 minutes. Others who came after us already received drinks and appetizers and we hadn't even ordered yet. The nice couple next to us saw that we were being ignored and sent the waiter to us once they got food. Even with that, our waiter (French man) kept forgetting about us. After drinks, he said he would be back for our order because we told him we were ready, then another 5-10 minutes later, he comes back and asks if we're ready to order. Ummm, yes we've been ready. We honestly should have probably left. The food was also not worth the wait. The escargot were served outside of the shell and were a little bit drier and chewier than I'm used to. The bouillabaisse was actually pretty good, but my friend's veal osso bucco was not. It didn't have a lot of meat and the sauce didn't seem to have been matured enough (too tomato-y). I want to mention that the restaurant was not at capacity, so it wasn't "busy" enough to warrant the lack of service because those around us received better service. read more

Glad that we walked into this place for dinner. Originally had dinner reservations somewhere else but a good chunk of downtown Palm Springs ended up with a blackout and loads of business had to close. We were lucky enough to get seated as places were staring to fill up with the blackout. Actually walked by so many times but never stopped in for a meal. We were able to get a table right away but it did start to fill up outside during our meal. Started off with the mussels, which we highly recommend. With cream if your going to have it the proper way. Mussels were pretty big in size and the broth was outstanding. Hence almost all the tables outside had an order. Also had the steak and fries which was nice with red wine sauce. The short ribs was amazing as well, falling off to the touch. Served with mashed potatoes and spinach. Everything was great and flavorful. Didn't have room for dessert though. Service was good, even with them being a little short staffed. It didn't take long for the meal to come which was nice. An hour later we still didn't get our food. Our waiter Andre apologized after about 30 minutes, but still no food. At 7:15, we still hadn't received our meals so we left. Other couples who arrived after us, were seated and received their food. Sorry grumpy owner, you lost two loyal customers. I think reservations are recommended. We ordered steamed mussel in white wine sauce. My husband really enjoyed it but some of the mussel had sand in them. Flavor is no complaint though. Th sea-bass is also pretty good. Cantaloupe salad is interesting. I'm used to different kind of prosciutto with usually honeydew on this combination. But we enjoyed this one too. The menu has all of the Belgium-Franco classics: frog legs, steak frites, mussels in multiple variations, roast chicken, salade Lyonnaise, and more. The ambience is very romantic with a trompe l'œil in the back dining room. The wine list is excellent and, overall the prices are on par with most other restaurants of their caliber. My one gripe is about the French fries. If you're known for your moules frites, and your name is Pomme Frite then imho you should have more fries per order and find a better serving container so you can accommodate more. Fries are generally one of the least expensive things to use on a menu so to give an impression of generosity to your customers (the value perception)give more fries, and have more sauces for them. These are incremental additions to your cost per plate that will pay you far bigger dividends down the road.
