    The Beet Carpaccio Salad

The servers were impeccable Five stars for the staff I wish I could say the same about the food First off don't waste your money on the rye bread rolls Tasteless and gooey inside The beet carpaccio is also a waste of money Beautiful plating Anyone can make this dish and place edible flowers on top The vegan mushroom entree was ridiculous The shrooms were rubbery And the black rice was over salted and tasteless The salad with the burrata cheese needed an heirloom tomato No need to have crumbs from the rye bread rolls on the bottom of the salad Mary's chicken entree was tasteless and the risotto was also bland and mushy. The cheese cake for dessert was the best thing on the menu And the service.

We stayed at L'Horizon Herman Bungalows. We ordered room service from the restaurant, SO.PA, and the food and service were excellent. The Lobster Salad, amazing and the Roasted Chicken with crazy good brown sauce!! The new Chef is nailing it!! Let's not forget to mention the ambience is off the chart here.

I had dined here years ago and loved it but was really nervous based on recent reviews. It was amazing! Drinks - we had a couple of cocktails at the bar which is located inside the hotel compound. Then we had wine and everything was great. Food - We had gougeres, kambocha, salmon and Alaskan crab. Everything was super delicious and amazing! Dessert was milk chocolate tart and yummy. Service - the valet, bar staff, host and server were ALL super prompt and nice. Can't wait to return. And book a bungalow

Oh my god I cannot believe it's taken me so long to review this gem! First let me state that if you're not already familiar with this place, it can be confusing to locate. We wound up parking just West of the boutique hotel, L'Horizon. There's a parking lot for some run-of-the-mill breakfast diner, no one noticed we walked the other way. There's a valet stand and to the right of it is a patio style gate that will lead you to SO.PA. Or, you can be like us and go to the hotel's front desk and they'll escort you (and you'll get to see the property!) We live in the high desert and were thrilled to see SO.PA on one of Gordon Ramsay's shows; so we went. Second upside for us, before the food even arrived, was learning the chef hails from Seattle. (Which is where my hubs and I met.) The waiter was excellent. Nick ordered eggs Benedict and I got avocado toast... no I'm not a hipster. This toast was amazing!!! It had avocado, duh... and quinoa (first time eating it), a poached egg, other seasonings and what have you, on top of baguette and topped with CALIFORNIA POPPIES! (For the weirdos out there, no you won't die from eating poppy seeds... nor will you get high.) This place is seasonal and does close during the super hot months. We went mid-November and sat outside (because all seating is outside). Absolutely wonderful.

All I can say is "AMAZING!!!" From the ambiance under the trees with flame lit torches to delicious food with flavors that played a symphony on my tongue to the excellent wait staff with super attentive service. The perfect date night! We will be back.

I really wanted to like this place more than I did. I found the food to be on the average side. There were a few dishes that stood out more than some, but I can't say it was worth the money as the portions were on the small side. The garden patio setting is beautiful. Especially at night where it's lit up and made cozy with heaters and blankets. I will say the cocktails were quite good. I'm really over the whole mixology craze and option for a gin gimlet that was fabulous. I could have had a liquid dinner with that and been satisfied. Excellent service by all and they brought us a comped birthday dessert which was very thoughtful. I can't say that I would come back. 3 stars for ambiance and service and, of course, the gimlet.

Which they normally alway have one. And it was Father's Day so we expected it to be quite busy. There was one person in-front of me when checking in with the hostess. It was going to be about half an hour for a table under first available. They take your number and text you when your table is ready with a 10 min grace period to get back. It did table about half hour till we received the text. This visit, we got seated inside which was a first for us. Majority of the restaurant is outside with covered umbrellas and small sections in the inside area with different rooms. Our waitress was quite sweet but didn't remember her name. Menu is pretty much same as I remember from last time. Of course the Bloody Mary is always a must here. Started off with that. Food wise, the andouille sausage omelette served with potatoes or a salad and avocado. That also comes with a side of baguette. And the baked brie platter which is a shared starter. But works also a meal if needed. A nice hefty portion of baked Brie with hazelnuts, both ciabatta bread and Asian pear as well as date jam. And a side order of bagel and cream cheese. Food was good. We've only been for brunch and each visit was great. Dinner is a prix fix menu which we have never been. Service was great and the staffs were all very friendly. Water was constantly filled when it was emptied. Until next time.

$18.03 Gazpacho w. tax. Hard pass. Restaurant, yes, I'd go again, just not that dish…read more The gazpacho had a structural and ingredient imbalance. A classic gazpacho relies on an emulsion where sweetness, water content, and acid combine to find an exact equilibrium. Here the tang was very forward and overpowering. The tomato deficit was the first issue. There was no sweetness, no umami. The tomatoes didn't seem truly ripe, and the soup lost its primary source of natural sugars. Unripe tomatoes are high in malic acid and low in sugar, meaning they don't provide the sweet counterweight needed to soften vinegar. That imbalance left the acid in the soup, aggressive. Also, the flavor of the tomato makes one wonder if there was possibly canned tomato juice in use. Then there's a missing cucumber component. The menu referenced "cucumber essence". Cucumbers, amongst other properties, would bring a crisp freshness on the palate. It acts as a natural diluent and with its water content to help mellow the concentration of the vinegar. A few cubes of cucumber would have benefited the dish tremendously. In researching the pepper choice, I found out that it also worked against the balance. While red bell peppers provide a deeper, earthier sweetness that supports ripe tomatoes, yellow peppers are brighter, thinner-skinned, and more citrus-forward. In an already highly acidic base, those amplify the sharp notes rather than grounding them. As for the protein, there may have been an ounce of lobster in the soup. Lobster is sweet, rich, and delicate. But because the gazpacho base leaned aggressively tart and sharp, it was completely drowned out. Instead of tasting luxurious and sweet, the harsh acid flattened it. For this soup to work, it should begin with fully matured, vine-ripened tomatoes, hand-selected and pressed to extract their pure essence. Sieved, free of pulp and seeds, the tomato broth delivers savory umami balanced with bright acidity, subtle sweetness, and the fresh aroma of the vine. With the remaining ingredients added, the gazpacho base transforms into something rich and seemingly weightless, yet complex, vibrant, alive, and intensely fresh. Unfortunately, this recipe missed on all marks. When I walked in the door, I was greeted as a party of one and directed to the bar outside. At that time, a table wasn't presented as an option. At the bar there was a seat hanging off the end, sadly anchored there. Instead, I went back and asked to sit at an open two-top just outside, across from the bar in a corner. There I sat and watched as the crew moved through service. After a few minutes of sitting at an empty table without being noticed, and without a menu or water, I started my timer and looked up, trying to catch someone's eye. After five minutes, I was noticed. The server, once I was finally noticed, was outstanding. Within four minutes, my server took my order and brought me a setup, bread and a bowl of soup. The bread was warm. The butter was cold. The soup bowl was chilled. Oh, in the outside patio area, there are ducts for the AC, but there are definitely areas where the chilly wind don't blow. If you sit outside and are sensitive to heat, choose wisely.

My husband and I shared the crab cakes, deviled eggs, and steak tartare, and everything was absolutely delicious. For our entrée, we shared the rack of lamb, which was cooked perfectly. As a chef myself, I think a nice touch from the kitchen would have been to plate the dish on two plates rather than providing an extra plate and having me do the sharing--but that's just a small observation. We also enjoyed a perfectly chilled bottle of rosé with dinner, along with a Negroni, and finished the evening with carrot cake for dessert. Overall, it was a wonderful experience.
