We were looking for somewhere to celebrate my nephew's 20th birthday and he mentioned Italian as an option. On a game day I was concerned, but we were able to snatch reservations and were seated within 5 minutes of arriving. The service was amazing! I highly recommend this restaurant. I'm a big fan of chicken piccata and chicken francese, and they do a great job with the best sauces that I have had in this town. They also have very reasonable delivery through Yelp. If you haven't had their fresh rosemary and sun-dried tomato bread it is a must try. Pleasantly surprised at how much I enjoyed this place. It's a bit of a drive (especially because I live on the other side of town) but I would say it was worth it. Atmosphere: cozy but romantic, makes you feel as if you're eating in some small restaurant in Italy. As soon as you walk in, you are just blown away by the smell of fresh pizza, bread, and pasta. Service: 5/5 our waiter was attentive, offered recommendations, and still made us feel like we were being taken care of even though it was clear that he was in charge of a lot of other tables. Price: 4/5 sometimes they offer a BOGO carry out deal for their pizzas and entrees which I think is awesome. Their appetizers are reasonably priced at around $8-$10 and their entrees (pasta dishes) are about $14. Food: 4/5 their fresh baked bread was fluffy, warm, with some light garlic and salt on top. It comes with this balsamic vinegar dipping sauce that I was hesitant about at first bc it was so thick but you have to try the bread with it. The flavors just mesh so well together. We ordered the calamari which was a steal because that in itself was so huge you could just eat it as an entree. Not only does it come with calamari but with shrimp and zucchini as well. It's given with marinara sauce. The calamari pieces were huge and so tender and soft. The breading wasn't ridiculously thick either which I liked. For our entree, you get either a soup or salad. Their house salad comes with the same balsamic dressing as the bread. I got the potato soup which wasn't flavored as much as I would've liked. I could taste the celery a lot and being a non celery fan, I didn't enjoy the soup as much as I wanted to. For the entree we got the pork shank that's cooked in a tomato base with a lemon cheese like risotto. The risotto was so creamy and delicious, I would have just eaten that. For our second entree we got a seafood + chicken pasta dish that comes in a garlic lemon cream sauce which I personally enjoyed a lot. Overall, this is a place I would come back to. read more

As soon as we sat we got served this Amazing bread that was both crispy on the outside and light and fluffy on the inside. It was early so we ordered lunch specials. The kids got a delicious soup that reminds me of my Italian grandma's. Everything was fresh and reminded me of back home in little Italy in the Bronx. Pomodoro Cafe is a great option for a date night, night out with friends or a solo meal. The food here always tastes very authentic and handmade from scratch. Many of their meals come with dinner and dessert, which almost never disappoints. I have only had one disappointment with my meals at Pomodoro Cafe. On this particular visit, the meatballs had a sour taste. Other than that, I have been satisfied with food. The service is always great and the hosts always gives accurate wait times. The food might take a little while to get to you because of how busy the restaurant is but it's definitely worth it. read more

This was my first and definitely not last time visiting Pomodoro Cafe. I went with my friends for dinner and ordered the lasagna. It was so delicious. We had some appetizer little slices of bread with cheese and other toppings. Very good and recommend. All the food and the desserts in the front showcase all looked delicious. I was too full to have dessert. I rate this with five stars. I haven't had Italian food that has been so authentic. A must visit if in Gainesville, FL. My mom and I were in Gainesville the other day and stopped in for dinner. We had a great experience! We were seated right away and the server greeted us quickly. Our server was friendly and attentive. This was our first time at the restaurant, and our server offered us recommendations and seemed enthusiastic about the food. Everything that came to the table was delicious! Our salads came out quickly and the homemade house dressing was delicious. My moms seafood pasta had lots of seafood in it that was perfectly cooked, and my ravioli was probably the best I've ever had. I wish I lived in Gainesville because I would visit this restaurant on the regular! Instead I'll just have to stop in on my trips between Tallahassee and Orlando. Quickly accommodated a group of 11 and able to split the check according to what each person ordered. Their patio seating is intimate, bright, and really brings out the great Floridian weather nights. We started with bread and balsamic vinegar. The bread was warm, soft, and had a nice garlicky top. The pecan encrusted pollo salad ($7.95) was large and filling. Though the honey balsamic dressing that came with the salads was incredibly gloppy and the color wasn't as appetizing as the balsamic vinegar that came with the bread. Everything on the menu sounded pretty great and carby. My group members were satisfied. Lots of calamari was ordered and the specials that come with an entree and soup or salad made their rounds. One of my group members ordered an apple cake dessert and when it came out it was all melted and didn't look that great, but he still seemed to enjoy it... Our server had a nice amount of sass for an italian restaurant. Drinks took awhile to come out but our server was really on top of his game throughout the entire night. The inside seating is pretty decked out with the fancy awnings to give it an outdoor feel while indoors. I was pretty impressed this "cafe". We are kind of regulars here, have been for some time. I've been meaning to write a review, finally getting to it! We were there this past Saturday, wonderful meal, great service! Have to do a shout out to Steven, a manager, who really understands customer service! Wonderful young man! And a shout out to Valerie, our favorite server!!! This is the third time I've eaten here, first time getting delivery. Once again the food was delicious. Wednesday is spaghetti day so we ordered the angel hair ($11.99) with meatballs ($4) and house sauce. There are a few varieties of noodles but I prefer angel hair. We also ordered the portabella mushroom fries and garlic pretzels. Little did we know our spaghetti dinner also came with a delicious garlic roll and a garden salad. We had enough food for two dinners and two lunches. The pasta, sauce, and meatballs were delicious. As soon as I opened the cover I knew it was fresh and homemade. The mushroom fries are a far cry from frozen breaded mushrooms; they are delicious. The garlic pretzels are soft, chewy, and delicious. My first visit with a groupon. It's pasta and pizza. The place was packed at 6PM, mainly retired folks and some families. My friend had pasta with clams -- could have done it at home $14.00 with 7 clams. and a cup of soup. I chose to stay away from the carbs and had the antipasto - large size. I was disappointed as it was nothing more than lettuce with maybe 4 ouces meat and cheese. And $12.00. They do give you bread. It comes with what I would consider and AWEFUL honey/balsamic dip -- way too sweet! Service was fast, and not pushy. So, with the $25.00 groupon = $12.50 spend ... it was STILL OK. Basically we got $6.00 of food and I really could have done this all at home. I do not think I will revisit, but they were busy and had a full restaurant. The desserts looked good, but were all purchased - the CANNOLI's looked like they were made to order. They do have outdoor seating. Buon appetito!! read more

Unlike some reviewers here, I've not had a truly bad or irksome experience here at Pomodoro, but I've not found them to be exceptional, either. However this place is normally packed on weekends, probably in great part due to the fact that it is one of a scant few decent restaurants on this side of town near the Interstate, and there's a lot of subdivisions out here. My parents do like this restaurant and my ex-boyfriend Jon and his mom and brother for some reason drove all the way across town (he lived south of the UF campus) to eat here once . . . so it's safe to say Pomodoro has earned its fans. I cannot complain about anything here, per se, but it's just never been exceptional, either. I would like for them to have more pasta choices on the menu and perhaps a really good antipasta . . . I just feel most of their dishes are a little too Americanized and if I wanted that I would go to the Olive Garden. I also do not like how they serve their bread with olive oil AND balsamic vinegar: it's much better just with the olive oil and yet they think they're sooooo smart to have the balsamic vinegar! The service has always been prompt though and the atmosphere is nice, however, I cannot help from thinking that a little more care, especially within the kitchen itself, could make the whole experience much better. Most of the specials seem too run-of-the-mill and I just rarely have found anything exciting here. There's a nearly endless bounty of pasta dishes out there . . . just look at Marcella Hazan's recipes, and yet most Italian places you find around here stick pretty close to the safe ones we've all already had. read more

Fantastic food and great service. Looked them up on Yelp and was not disappointed. We ordered a large pizza and some artichoke dip with bread as an appetizer. The waiter didn't rush the order and we had time to enjoy. The atmosphere is relaxed and the sound was casual. Great for a family or a couple to get great Italian food. The manager could be seen looking around making sure everything was going to plan. The price was affordable and didn't dent our wallet. Being new residents to Gainesville we came here for a wonderful Christmas feast. The garlic bread and side reduction sauce were fantastic. Fresh baked from the oven! I have gotten take-out twice with the BOGO. The pizza has no taste both times. I don't mean this mean. I wanted to like it since it is BOGO. The last time I got the Philly pizza and there was no sauce (maybe it doesn't come with sauce). I didn't like it. I also got a different pizza and it didn't have taste and had little sauce. I gave them another try today and got a pepperoni and mushroom pizza and a calzone. I had to add my own seasonings when I got home. The pizza just doesn't have a taste. The mushrooms were out of a jar. That did it for me. I won't be going back. The calzone was very bready. Once I got to the toppings (in the middle) it was okay. I had six toppings. It should have been better but they didn't burn it like some other places do. I didn't like the pepperoni on the pizza or in the calzone. It was tasteless as well. Oh well, the BOGO seemed too good to be true and it is. The staff is nice. The ranch dressing is amazing. I wish I could buy a bottle of that. The tasteless pizza and canned toppings are not what I'm looking for so I'll go to Five Star where the toppings are fresh. Thank you, though. read more

My Italian Antipasto salad had maybe 4 olives, maybe one teaspoon of feta cheese, and was missing the anchovies I had ordered and paid for. Ordering was easy. When I picked it up, the guy seemed annoyed with the online process. On the website the "Send a Message" has no link to send a message. Message to owners: takeout is all you got right now. WOW; trying to get to I-10 via I-75 and had one of the best Italian meals in 14 years in Florida. Service was very good, ambiance very good, food for here is excellent.
