I love going to this place for lunch. It's close to the office and my friends seem to enjoy the food as well. The calamari is excellent and cooked perfectly, not chewy at all. The pizza is exceptional, it's is my husband's favorite. I prefer the supreme, but he loves the meat lovers. My all-time favorite thing to order is still the chef salad or Pasta alla Dino. I hate to update my review this way but our experience tonight was so disappointing. I'm not even sure where to begin. First, our server took forever to even great out table. He was young so I'll try to give him the benefit of the doubt here. He was friendly but we hardly ever saw him. My partners meal came out before anything else... by a lot. We didn't get our salads until his meal had already been sitting for several minutes because he was waiting for me to receive my meal before he started eating. My food too an unreasonable amount of time for risotto and showed up after our salads. By that time my partners food had gone cold and my cold wine I was saving for my meal had gone warm. Once we finally received all our food the flavor was so underwhelming. The my partners gnocchi didn't taste fresh and my risotto was so bland. I added more parmesan, salt and pepper than any meal I've ever had just to give it some flavor. For two drinks (wine and a vodka soda) two salads and two entrees it totaled $90 before tip. That's actually insane for how bad the food was. I want to give this place another shot because we thoroughly enjoyed our experience the first time, but after tonight, it'll be a while before we choose to do so. read more

This little gem in Durham is just off I-85 and very close to Duke University Hospital. The service is always outstanding. The decor is updated and clean and theme appropriate. Three stars here the menu is superb numerous options the food is just always lackluster and it makes me very very sad because the joint is very convenient for me. She didn't offer us the dinner rolls prior to dinner. Selected the salmon rústico with linguine , the sauce was very bland. The menu says grilled vegetables, but they were frozen boiled vegetables very runny on the plate. The side Caesar was not tasty, the Caesar dressing was placed on the side, not mixed and served as a Caesar salad. My husband ordered the gnocchi sub vodka sauce instead of pesto and added chicken. The chicken was tough, appeared to have been reheated and added to the plate. Returned and they brought it back with fresh grilled chicken. However, they charged additional for the vodka sauce. First time going to Pomodoro last night, and I'm pleased to say we will definitely go back. The food was good. We got Caprese salad, pasta al Carlo, and the pesto gnocchi with chicken. The pasta sauces were decadent, and the chicken was delicious. The service was competent & timely. The atmosphere is not fancy, but who cares. It's a nice place you can take your family or a date and eat yummy food and not break the bank. I ordered an espresso (not eXpresso) and reminded the waitress 4-5 times before it attived. The first of three entrees was served 10 minutes before the other two. Both of them were not what was ordered. Another 10 minutes wait. Water glasses never refilled. Deserts were okay, but first 4 choices were sold out. I had to leave to table to track down silverware and practically had to beg for the check. $120 for mediocre food and awful service. My family of 11 came here for an early dinner tonight. It happened to be Mother's Day and the restaurant was packed. I was very impressed with the food. We had pizzas, Alfredo with chicken, manicotti trio, cheese manicotti, Italian grilled chicken. Appetizers we tried were the zucchini strips (best ranch ever!), garlic knots, calamari and mozzarella sticks. Our server, Luanne, was fantastic. She had multiple parties and tables all over the restaurant, but handled the stress with grace, humor, and excellent service. They were pretty much disgusting and not very good with the dry as hell salmon! And also included was SPAGHETTI w/ marinara sauce! Just what this diabetic needed! NOT! This disgusting meal cost me $20 and was supposed to be low carb- (located on the back page of their menu, marked $13.00) . I even told the waitress I wanted the low carb salmon ! The lasagna- that I got for my friend- was just ok. The bread they use to serve was good- this doughy piece of bread was as tough and dry as my salmon. This use to be my favorite restaurant. It use to be solid! I love the owner! I have been going for years!! I have even told him the food quality and quantity has gone down hill. But since Covid- this place has plummeted to the depths of "hell no, I don't wanna go!" no thank you- there's other Italian restaurants that are a lot better. Unfortunately, they aren't 5 miles down the street from my house. I more than likely won't be back- unless someone else is paying or I'm going to the bar to drink- Sorry. You really can't go wrong with a beer. What I should've ordered was my husbands dish but I am not a huge pasta lover so I ordered the salmon salad he ordered a pasta dish. Smart man since we were at an Italian restaurant right :) My salmon was bland but ok for a salad. Hubs was delicious creamy and full of flavor. We go here because it is close to home but their food and how long it takes to get your food has become very bad. Every time I order food here it comes to the table cold and/or wrong with wrong sauce or half of what you requested. The food will also come out dry, I ask for extra cheese it never comes out, matter of fact it looks like it has no cheese. Not to mention it took 1 hour to get our food. This restaurant has been going down hill for some time. Very disappointed in the food. We were both craving Italian so we decided to try Pomodoro since we've passed by it numerous times and it seemed to have mostly good reviews. We decided to order the lasagna and the calamari. I was pleased that the calamari was well portioned, it was lightly breaded and perfectly cooked. The lasagna had a good taste to it and the sauce had a nice snap but the portion was a little smaller than expected and was lacking ricotta. The bread that came with it would have been better if it were garlic knots or garlic bread and I was surprised that a salad wasn't included. I'll try this place again but I'll get clarification on whether a salad should have been included with a dinner item and I'll ask about other bread options. The ambiance is fine. The service was pleasant and responsive. I did not try the pizza, but on Valentines half the people were eating pizza which should have been a clue. The prices I saw on my phone (photos of menus) were outdated and pushed the prices into, pricier territory. The entrees we tried (chicken parmasan and lobster ravioli) ranked below the Olive garden in authenticity and execution. The tomato sauce with the chicken looked like it came out of a can with absolutely no extra spices, garlic, anything, and was watery on the plate. The Lobster ravioli had little flavor (a mince vs actual pieces of lobster) and the saffron sauce was creamy but heavy and no saffron flavor. No vegetables in the entree (not even a garnish). Food is ok. Nothing special. The desserts are good. However, they are ALWAYS short-staffed AND they have an almost 5% surcharge on your bill if you don't pay cash!! Who carries cash like that anymore? This seems shady to me, so they have lost a regular customer. There are other "italian" restaurants around that don't gouge the customer. I generally never order pasta because it's so easy to make yourself but I was needing a little tummy tlc and thought I'd try their spaghetti carbonara since based on the ingredients on the menu, it looked like it was the real deal. Unfortunately it had Alfredo sauce in with the eggs and it overloaded the entire dish and made this more of a spaghetti pie with one solid chunk you had to slice to get out.
