Lasagna with meat sauce and roll

This little gem in Durham is just off I-85 and very close to Duke University Hospital. The service is always outstanding. The decor is updated and clean and theme appropriate. Three stars here the menu is superb numerous options the food is just always lackluster and it makes me very very sad because the joint is very convenient for me. I stopped tonight because I was exhausted and gave it another shot.

In town on business. Place very cozy, was empty for Saturday afternoon. The service was just ok, server served the sparking water and didn't bother to open and pour. She didn't offer us the dinner rolls prior to dinner. Selected the salmon rústico with linguine , the sauce was very bland. The menu says grilled vegetables, but they were frozen boiled vegetables very runny on the plate. The side Caesar was not tasty, the Caesar dressing was placed on the side, not mixed and served as a Caesar salad. My husband ordered the gnocchi sub vodka sauce instead of pesto and added chicken. The chicken was tough, appeared to have been reheated and added to the plate. Returned and they brought it back with fresh grilled chicken. However, they charged additional for the vodka sauce. Should have at least offered us a discount for having to wait for the dish to come back. Not a place I would return.

I may have found my new favorite Italian cuisine in RDU! I reallly wanted some pasta the other night and this restaurant hit the mark! We ordered cocktails, lobster ravioli with jumbo shrimp, and veal marsala. That saffron sauce in the ravioli was perfection and very fresh. I even tried the veal and it was tender and well seasoned. They serve plenty of pasta combos, including a build your own option, pizza, salads, sandwiches, and desserts. They offer weekday lunch specials until 230p and daily specials, such as: $8 martinis on Tuesday and Friday APPY Hour from 2-6 on Monday and Saturday $5 mimosas on Sunday

I would actually give this place a 3.5. The ambiance is a 10/10-feels like an Olive Garden with the operatic Italian music and bread and butter appetizer. The service is friendly and prompt. The reason for the less stars is some of the dishes are basic and could be made at home. I do agree the lobster ravioli is delicious. However, I did feel like it lacked some vegetables. The chef's specialty noodle dish tasted like pizza toppings on lo mien. So, I would not order that specific dish. Overall, this is a cute, comfy restaurant with a nostalgic 90's vibe.

I was in the kitchen. Pretty nice. Saw the pizza get made. Ate the pizza. Nice workers too. Also they played spider man two which of course is fantastic. Also got two cokes. The place looked and smelled good. Would recommend. Idk how to pronounce it tho. Really good food. Would go again.

Service was really good- everybody was nice and able to answer any questions we had. The environment was nice as well, very cute like a nonna decorated it herself. The food itself was alright- a little bland but there was a lot of older folks there so I can see why. All the dishes were also real oily? We got the garlic knots, side salads, carbonara, chicken parm, and two fountain drinks which came out to be just under $70 before tip. All this being said I would definitely go again! Bring cash to make the bill a little cheaper too (no card service fee)

Supposed to be the Salmon dish off of the low carb section with sautéed "fresh" vegetables.

As much as I hate to do this.... And I really do! I went in to order a dinner to go. I ordered a lasagna and a Low Carb Salmon with sautéed "fresh" vegetables. I thought the bill was a little off but I was in a hurry. Paid and off I went home! Get home and darn if I was charged $20 for the salmon- it was supposed to be $13.00!! LOW CARB MENU! The salmon was as dry as the Sahara desert! And cold, And had NO SEASONING! It was supposed to have Italian seasoning! The veggies were soggy and cold. They were pretty much disgusting and not very good with the dry as hell salmon! And also included was SPAGHETTI w/ marinara sauce! Just what this diabetic needed! NOT! This disgusting meal cost me $20 and was supposed to be low carb- (located on the back page of their menu, marked $13.00) . I even told the waitress I wanted the low carb salmon ! The lasagna- that I got for my friend- was just ok. The bread they use to serve was good- this doughy piece of bread was as tough and dry as my salmon. This use to be my favorite restaurant. It use to be solid! I love the owner! I have been going for years!! I have even told him the food quality and quantity has gone down hill. But since Covid- this place has plummeted to the depths of "hell no, I don't wanna go!" no thank you- there's other Italian restaurants that are a lot better. Unfortunately, they aren't 5 miles down the street from my house. I more than likely won't be back- unless someone else is paying or I'm going to the bar to drink- Sorry. Makes me sad to write such a bad review- but unfortunately, this meal deserves a poor review.

Overall, I cannot speak highly enough of the service. I always feel anxious asking for vegan versions at restaurants which don't have anything vegan on the menu, but I felt very at ease here. The staff was extremely professional. They brought me a separate salad, which was some kind of pepper / oil / radish situation. The main dish was a basil & eggplant pasta with red sauce. The noodles themselves were delicious, and I loved the basil & eggplant. I did feel that the sauce was perhaps a bit bland / undersalted, but I suspect that was because of the vegan accommodations. I think the salad suffered for similar reasons. I think they could improve their menu by designing an intentionally vegan main dish, particularly one that was more well-balanced to make up for the lack of cheese (everything else had cheese in it, so I'm assuming that was the problem with my dish). Overall, however, I was very impressed with the service and it was a very positive experience. I appreciate the lengths to which they went to accommodate me.

The wine list is broad and thoughtfully curated, with options that feel approachable whether you're a casual wine drinker or someone looking to try something new. The sommeliers were welcoming, knowledgeable, and genuinely enthusiastic about helping us find something we loved. The space itself is adorable, with eclectic décor and cozy lighting that makes it easy to settle in and stay awhile. It's a great spot for conversation and a relaxed evening with friends. The only downside is that the space is fairly small, and I would have loved to see one or two more lower seating options for small groups rather than mostly high tops. That said, I could absolutely see us coming back for a pre- or post-theater glass of wine or an easy catch-up night.

The service is awesome--our server was super friendly and gave me a great drink recommendation when I wasn't sure what I wanted. It ended up being perfect. My friend and I shared a glass of the 2023 Cederberg Bukettraube (sweet white wine) and got the charcuterie board for one with the truffle salami. That board was so good--I can't stop thinking about it. The toasted baguette slices with truffle salami and mustard? Unreal. It was the perfect little snack to share. We also had the citrus lavender crème brûlée, which was surprisingly delicious. I don't usually go for crème brûlée, but this one was light, not overly sweet, and just had a really nice flavor. I've also tried their shepherd's pie before and loved it--wish it was still on the menu! The vibe inside is moody and cozy, and they've got a cute outdoor patio too. Overall, such a great spot. A little pricey, but I'll definitely be coming back. Highly recommend checking out Killer Queen.
