Normally had ordered on uber eats for the promos they have but decided to actually go to the restaurant! Parking was a bit of a hassle as there aren't many places to park. A few other restaurants and a social sports club are in the plaza. Once we entered we were greeted by staff and given a few moments to decide what we wanted to order. Felt a bit rushed. I ordered the 3 piece Ponko chicken which was with rice and fries. My husband and I both got the same thing. The seating is interesting as they had 3 booth seats and the rest were tables. It didn't take long for the food to come out but once it arrived I was a little sad by the size of the chicken. They weren't very big. They were delicious but hoping they were bigger like when I've ordered before. Everything was okay flavor wise, the chicken was the best tasting thing but the fries were a bit bland. We couldn't finish out plate as we got more fries than anything else and got filled up quick. I was able to get a box. Deeply disappointed in the service here. Came in today at 12:15 and ordered one meal to go during my lunch break. Moments before I came in, a very large online order had been placed and was prioritized ahead of my order. The person who placed the online order had not arrived yet and I was the only other person waiting on my food, and still had to wait 20 minutes because they prioritized completing the large online order ahead of my food. I came here with my spouse and sister and we wanted a small snack to tide us over before dinner. We shared a PONKO Kamikaze bowl and I was impressed at how tasty it was! The chicken was fried well, not super oily, and the sauce was nice on top. The chicken paired well with the fries in the bowl. OK, let's start with the service. The guy that waited on me behind the counter had more attitude than I've experienced at any restaurant probably ever.. My food came out quick and I'll start with the positive. The coleslaw was good. The fries came out cold and had obviously been sitting around a while. The chicken was just freaking horrible. There were apparently two different flavors. One was barbecue and the other was whatever their popular house flavor is. The barbecue one was fair, but the other two were absolutely horrible. All of them had a burnt taste. The restaurant seemed to be clean and the atmosphere was good other than all the attitude that I got every time I asked anything of the gentleman that works here. If you're considering this place for lunch, I would urge you to consider any place other than this. I try to eat it every new restaurant in Alpharetta. I have to say that most of my experiences are fantastic. If I had to rate the worst experience that I have had. It would definitely be this Resturant. I can't see this place being around for very long. Fries are apparently their most popular side and they don't even have ketchup bottles, only the little packets. I think this location specifically is missing the secret that usually makes Ponko Chicken good. The portions have been significantly smaller since when they first opened and most recently, the OG sauce was so overly salty that I couldn't eat it. The chicken was just okay, overly greasy and not seasoned whatsoever. Lastly, the price is really not worth it given that it's just chicken tenders and rice. So there is an abundance of fast food restaurants around Alpharetta but the service, experience, and prices are what sets this place apart. Here is the summary of my visit to the Ponko chicken Alpharetta location Ambiance 5/5: The ambiance is very peppy and has a young vibe. The art design looks very modern. They also informed us about the BOGO offer and waited while we skimmed through the menu to make a decision, Also, when my friend received the wrong order, they were so nice to let her keep it and brought her the right dish which was really nice of them Food Quality 4.5/5: I really like the chicken fingers with the side that I ordered but I did not like the side which was a salad with island veggies. The jerk chicken side was really good and reminded me of Indian flavors. Ponko Alpharetta was my highly anticipated restaurant opening of 2021. I've been a fan of Ponko for over a decade now, since their first location in Stone Mountain. My friends and I were devastated when that one closed, but were revived when they re-opened in Chamblee. Now I don't have to drive to Atlanta or Marietta for a taste of Ponko. There's finally one near me! Been here a handful of times now and have met several of their team members, including the wonderful owners, Rick and Sue. Rick and Sue are always there, helping out and even serving customers. Their team is friendly and efficient. Since I don't eat meat anymore, I always get the tofu tenders OG style with brown rice. Fortunately for me, they taste almost exactly like the delicious chicken. The breading and flavor are the same. I've also tried some of the sides, green beans, sweet potatoes, salad, etc and they're all delicious. Can't go wrong with any of them. The space is bright and clean. They have a great thing going here. The chicken is both crispy and moist. It is a decent portion for the price. The three piece came with two sides. I went with the pickles and the coleslaw. The coleslaw was a huge success in my opinion. It tastes of sesame oil and was really fresh tasting. The pickles were also good however when I think of a side I envisioned more than the 4 pieces I received. Still.....they were good. All of their sauces and dressings are homemade and really good. My favorite is the sweet sesame and homemade buttermilk ranch. This is a brand new PONKO location that opened yesterday - and I couldn't be more excited about it! As someone who loves PONKO chicken, I've been anxiously awaiting their opening day and of course had to go on their opening day. We came by for dinner and could smell the just finished construction inside it's so new! The space is fairly small but cozy and we were still able to find some space apart from others despite having a fairly full restaurant on opening night. The workers were incredibly kind and helpful to those who had never been to PONKO before in explaining best sellers. When our food took a bit of time to come out (which we were not at all concerned about considering it was day 1) they proactively brought over two cookies for us as an apology for the wait. The food we got was incredibly fresh and obviously cooked to order - and of course amazing. The only thing I will say is that they don't QUITE seem to have the breading on the tenders down EXACTLY right yet. They seemed to have a bit too much breading on them and were overly crispy like they'd been left in a bit too long. They were still delicious, though, and I fully expect it was just a case of day 1 learning curve. Otherwise, it was exactly what I've come to expect from PONKO and I already can't wait to go back. Ponko Chicken is a new fast casual restaurant in the Maxwell development, which is a short drive (or long walk) from the heart of downtown Alpharetta. We came here for dinner and had a good experience. The chicken is of course the star here, and you get to pick the sauce (OG, BBQ, or spicy). The chicken has a great crisp and terrific flavor. I only ordered the 3 piece plate, but I wish I had ordered the 5 (3 isn't so filling for dinner). The spicy one isn't as spicy as I had hoped, but you can ask for extra sauce on the side. For the sides, I had the rice, which was good when mixed in with the sauces. The Asian cole slaw was very fresh, but lacking flavor. And I didn't care for the french fries. We also tried the tofu tenders, which were good also. One issue with the Maxwell is parking. Since all of the businesses are open now, parking can be hard to find during busy times. There is valet available for $7, but I'd be annoyed to have to pay that to eat here. read more

I've been to the Midtown location lots of times so I was excited to try out their new Alpharetta location. I came here on a Friday around 7-8PM and there were only a few parties there and a couple people at the bar. I got the ponko chicken (OG) salad with buttermilk ranch dressing ($11). It comes in a pretty large bowl with the cut up chicken in a side bowl for you to add. I LOVE the OG chicken - it's so crispy and a little sweet. I personally love the salad because the chicken is already in nice bite-sized pieces and the salad helps cut out a bit of the pure umami flavor from the chicken. The service was quick and nice. They'll give you a numbered block to put on your table and they bring the food out to you. The outdoor patio was very spacious with a few round tables to sit at (with umbrellas). Parking might be a little hard to find because of the new golf place that just opened up next door, though (and the bank parking lot next door is NOT connected). Overall - just as good as the Midtown location! The chicken is consistently delicious and unlike any other kind of chicken I've had. Interesting name. What's a Ponko? My curiosity led me to Yelp and that led me to the Alpharetta Ponko Chicken along with some friends. It was a Sunday evening and the place was nearly deserted. It takes a couple reads to figure out the menu options. I ordered a PC plate with five pieces of PC and two sides - cole slaw and white rice. The chicken pieces were a chicken tender, coated in panko crumbs and deep fried to a dark brown. It was very juicy and tender with great taste. I had a spicy dipping sauce with a teriyaki flavor with some heat. It did take longer than expected to receive our meal . . . but it was worth it. It's an order on the larger side, and I know math is hard, but not that hard. yet again, my order was wrong. I ordered 5 Ponko chicken plates to go and only received 4. It was obvious this was going to happen to because the guy st the counter was clearly not checking orders for accuracy. Customers could see that. I attenpted to report their error on the contact form on their website. It doesn't work and errored out. So I left them an email using the address posted on their website. No response. Well, my business was worth $13 to them because we will never go back. I absolutely do not recommend. Fries are good, chicken is mediocre, sauce is not so good, and service is awful. The spicy sauce has such a great flavor but definitely isn't too hot. Paired with their signature rice and pickles, I couldn't have had a better lunch! Everything goes so well together. Have heard so many things about ponko chicken I had to try it! I got it to-go. It was definitely a crispy fry on them. I didn't realize that the "OG" vs "spicy OG" sauce was the sauce to be coated on the chicken fingers. I got a mix of both with my 5 finger plate (3 finger plate would have been plenty!) and while I liked the spicy more it wasn't that spicy and both were pretty sweet to me. I have been wanting to try Ponko for years but there weren't any near me, so I was super excited when this opened. My son and I both ordered the 3 piece Ponko plate to go - I got spicy sauce and he got OG sauce, I got rice and slaw and he got rice and fries. The spicy sauce had nice flavor and a little heat but it wasn't super spicy. My son really enjoyed his too and he is very serious about his chicken tenders! The menu board was challenging to read through on one's first visit but a team member had a printed menu available to make looking through all the options easier. Tried out the new Japanese Ponko restaurant that opened in the new Maxwell retail development in the downtown Alpharetta area, next to Bank of America and Red's Package Store, across the street from Dairy Queen. The restaurant is sparkling and clean and nicely designed and includes a small bar area. It feels like what Chipotle would be if they decided to grow up and appeal to a more upscale crowd. The food was fairly quickly served and thankfully, piping hot. I had the 'OG' Chicken 3pc with 2 sides, rice with OG sauce, and green beans. The green beans with Miso Tahini and Fried Onions are a two dollar upcharge but they were worth it and the entire meal including drink was modestly priced and was plenty of food so I felt it was a good value. The chicken is supposed to be the star of the show and while it had a slightly sweet flavor the chicken itself was fresh and on the juicy side. The coating is quite substantial and it is deep-fried giving it an extremely crunchy, satisfying chew. I would not order it again but that's because I just don't go for sweetness on chicken so I would try it again, but go with the spicy coating or perhaps even grilled. The staff was attentive and friendly and for the most part wore their masks although the gentleman who I believe is either the owner or the manager (or both) did not wear a mask at all and was having a conversation with two people dining who also did not have on masks after eating and stood at the booth next to mine. With the new far more contagious variants of COVID-19 on the scene I was extremely uncomfortable being right at 6 feet away so no worries, walked over to the window seating where nobody else was. This was actually the first restaurant I've eaten in since last March and while it is clean I just wouldn't want to dine in the restaurant again with a senior manager feeling comfortable not wearing a mask in his restaurant, or mandating masks while not eating or drinking. I'm going to put it on my list to visit again when things return to "normal" or whatever the new normal is in a post COVID-19 world. read more
