My wife and I were here last week for dinner. While we were greeted friendly enough and were seated at a table where the other couple was finishing up their soup and salads. At this point, I knew we were going to be pushed, but not this badly. My butt was not even in my chair before a skinny, very unkept gentleman, whose hair looked like it hadn't been washed in days, let alone combed, had the gall to ask if we were ready to order. I sat down and informed him that we had not even opened the menus yet. We ordered sake and started to review the menu. My wife wanted a sushi appetizer, but was afraid to order. She hates to be rushed like this, as do I. The sake arrived in less than a minute and was placed very forcefully in front of us. At that point, we were asked to order. Get that - asked to order. My wife ordered, and I looked at him in the eyes and said that I would need a few more minutes. What he did next was astounding. He leaned against the grill and folded his arms, while he waited for me. I really couldn't believe this type of behavior. I quickly ordered steak and scallops and he departed, only to return seconds later with both our soup and salad, again placed forcefully in front of us. The cook came out, and cooked with no theatrics at all, which was fine with me at this point. Funny how the food doesn't really change. The fried rice, steak and vegetables tasted the same as I always remembered. Not good, but not bad either. However, I have no idea what they put on my plate and called scallops. If you are going to punch trigger fish to look like scallops, at least get a round(ish) type mold. What was in my plate was an abomination! Not only was it tough (it chewed like eel) but it didn't even look like a scallop. I noticed the lady next to me ordered the same thing, and I noticed she left all of them on the plate, plus the one she spit out after trying to chew it. I left mine as well. I should have said something, but at that point, all we wanted was to get the hell out of there. What has happened here? This used to be fun and delicious place to eat. We chose this place since it was near the hotel where this guy who works for a partner company was staying. We decided to stay away from the hibachi tables and was seated at a large table so we could spread out and it was clear to our server Diane, that we needed more space. Diane was patient with us, because we were talking so much none of us looked at our menus for the first 20 minutes. We specifically stopped and looked thru the menu. I ordered one of the many sushi rolls they offered, the 007 roll which was very tasty. I also went with their stir fry udon noodles with shrimp, which also came with broccoli, peppers, and onions. The sushi roll was delicious. Imitation crab, but I didn't mind and they stated that on the menu. The customer ordered the sushi and sashimi lunch box, and my colleague got a protein heavy plate stir fried with veggies and took his fried rice to go. My noodle dish was very tasty, I put it in the middle so people could pick at it, because the sushi roll was large and filling. Lots of shrimp and veggies along with the udon noodles, it's a hearty plate! Diane came through and made sure we were happy, and also made sure refills were good for all of us. Avoid this place if you want to enjoy the hibachi experience and with pleasant service. Definitely do not make a reservation for 8 pm or later or you will become the hibachi enemy. We had a reservation and I called to tell them we were running behind and gave an ETA as we were around the corner. I was told they closed at 9:00 ( website said 11 pm). I asked do I need to cancel? I was told NO. We arrived and were seated. The waiter rushed to get order. I order vegetables fried rice without their seasonable vegetables ( one would think you would still get the soup and salad). That was not the case when I realized this I tried to add the veggies and I was told NO. The chef came out did his defeated like production. I received my plain fried rice , my daughter received her filet steak my friend filet and chicken. My daughter asked for more yum yum sauce and the manager slammed it so hard in front of me it went every where that even the chef gave the what I can only assume was the manager a are you serious look. The sauce was everywhere. As soon as the chef moved his cart they sent in the clean up crew before we could even take the first bite of our food. I asked for napkins to clean up the sauce rather than using their nicely rolled for the next day silverware and again it was slammed. The food was average. The ambiance was hostile. The service was fast and the server did not know that two things we asked about were never offered they are just on the menu I guess to take up space. If they do not want to serve people past 8 pm then they should not take reservations past 7:30. Gone was the memory of fun, that volcano onion and just any type of service than what we received. Especially for the amount of money you pay and as soon as it's cooked a crew is trying to sweep under you. Oddly enough they stand around and wait to pounce the moment the chef is done or they think you have dropped your fork. What a terrible experience the last time we ate here! We have been coming here over and over and honestly this WAS our favorite place to eat for our family. The food was always good, the service was sometime questionable due to how busy they were but the show was always good. This time was like the wheels have fallen off the ride! These was zero show... it is hibachi... you have to have the clang clang clang, the flipping of the utensils, the silky corny jokes, the food tossing, the fire, the volcano and the happy chef! It is all part of the experience! There was fire... and way over cooked rice, there was a volcano but no smiles, no jokes, there was literally zero happiness! No clanging, no flipping and spinning, no food tossing, not life! I thought maybe it was just our chef but as I watched the other groups it was the same for them. The chefs were just going through some of the motions and had no heart in the show. What they did you couldn't even call a show anymore. It was pathetic! Top top it all off the food it's self was a shadow of what it used to be. The flavors were off, we got our sushi when I was just about done with my meal and things were just completely off. I dined here with my girlfriends on Monday night and sat in Hibachi. We started the night at the cute cozy bar where our server, Amy, helped us select an amazing bottle of wine to share. Amy stayed close and made sure we were seated in Hibachi as soon as we were ready. Once we were seated in Hibachi, Amy was right over and we placed our orders. Our Hibachi chef, Henry, proceeded to make us filet mignon, scallops, shrimp and fried rice. All of the food prepared by Henry was absolutely incredible! The filet was cooked to perfection and the scallops were seared just right. The friendly and professional service here by Amy and Henry was out of this world. I came here with a co-worker for lunch and they sat us quickly, got our food out with a smile, and we were able to have a nice meal during our break. For lunch they DO have some great lunch deals that I considered. However, I really wanted to try the Pokémon roll (and it was wonderful!). Next time I will likely try their two roll lunch that comes with soup and salad. My co-worker got the Sakura roll with a cup of miso soup. The miso soup smelled wonderful and she said it was delicious. She also said that her Sakura roll was very good and something she will order again. The staff was nice and attentive without hovering over us. They never made us feel rushed either. I will definitely be back. I only give 4 stars because I am a bit spoiled with my sushi and getting a much larger roll with a ton more salmon, tuna, and crab salad on it for the same price. HOWEVER, for the area and compared to some other local places their pricing is very fair. The roll was a good size overall compared to most places, but I would definitely say a bit more crab salad at least would certainly elevate it. This was our second time here. Our first time was great! This time was not the best experience. The biggest red flag is that our chef used his prongs to touch raw chicken and then right after, pushed one of the water cups away with the same prongs. Huge health concern. Our chef mentioned we were his last table before leaving and he seemed to be rushing through our dinner letting us pass around the yum yum and ginger sauce to pour ourselves. The highlights were that the filet was cooked extremely well and the fried rice was also great! However, the shrimp and chicken were very overcooked. It seems like they just kind of threw together what they had in the kitchen - older/lesser cuts of meat (the "New York strip" was sirloin, and the chicken was very, very dry) and assorted veggies that would not normally come in hibachi (green beans???? cabbage??) - and boxed it up to go. The rice was good, at least! Disappointed because we have been here multiple times to dine in and have not had complaints. This hibachi grill has been here ever since I can remember, and it's one of my favorite Japanese restaurants! There's truly nothing better than the hibachi grill experience, but they do have the option of just dining at a normal table if you would prefer to opt out of sharing space with others around a hibachi grill. Service has never been anything short of wonderful, and although the portion sizes seemed to have changed over the years, I still keep it top of mind when I am in the mood for hibachi. There can be a wait, especially on weekends, but they do take reservations. The chef's always pull out all of the tricks to entertain the group of all ages, and their energy is usually so fun and contagious. I love to order a combo of hibachi chicken and shrimp, and you must order the fried rice!! With any of the hibachi menu items, you get to start with a miso soup and salad and their fresh ginger dressing is absolutely incredible. They also offer delicious house-made sauces to go with your protein of choice, rice, and veggies. Who doesn't love yum-yum sauce?! If you're a sushi eater, they have a pretty extensive sushi menu as well and sometimes I like to share a roll or two to start. I know I will be back again soon! read more

When we made the reservation, we had to specify if we wanted a hibachi table (where they cook in front of you) or a regular table. I'm glad we had a hibachi reservation because it was packed when we arrived. We were seated within 10 minutes of our time and began the experience. We were the last of our table to arrive so the last to be seated and our area of the table was not directly in front of the cook as a result. I was looking at his side but could still see the show. That said, he did not do ask many tricks and gimmicks that I have seen in the past. I got the hibachi chicken and the portion was large, coming with rice, veggies, and soup to start. The food was great and the hibachi chef did a wonderful job keeping us entertained and was very friendly. The disappointing thing was when we got our bill. There was an option on the menu to do a "Sharing" hibachi meal for $9 (you split the meat portion of the hibachi). When we got our bill, they had charged us $15. We questioned the waiter, and he said he had given us an "old menu" and that the price had increased to $15. As a couple on a budget, this was frustrating to hear, especially since he didn't change it and we needed to pay the full price. We've been going to this restaurant for over 5 years, I can't even begin to count the amount of times we've been here, and we noticed it right away this time: MANAGEMENT CHANGED. Big mistake #1: Chefs are overworked and tired, not in as good a mood, the entire atmosphere is quiet and depressing now, struggling to keep up with what used to be an easy Friday night. The volume itself was loud, but it wasn't a happy upbeat volume, it was just...regular... Food quality is, nowhere near. I always get the filet mignon. I know it's not normal for hibachi, but when I tell you it was so exquisite, I mean it. Now I know I like nice things, but, I understand food normally, this quality of filet is not even slightly near what it used to be, might as well not be filet. The amount of time we had to wait just to get anything (the servers were as great as they could be, at least the one we had, she was very nice and clearly way way way overworked, but she was doing her absolute best) was absurd and the management was walking around pestering people to leave so they could clean up if they say too long after dinner service. Had a reservation for 7:30, we got sat rather quickly but it took over an hour before our chef came to our table and started cooking our meals. We'd even seen tables sat after us get started before us. Chef was good, food was not. It was not only incredibly salty, but I ended up with food poisoning. This was my wife's favorite restaurant so she always picks it for her birthday dinner with the family. Tonight was different. Ichiban must be under new management or something because it felt completely different. It felt off. Prices are high as always but portions are now much smaller. Wait staff seemed inexperienced or just plain overwhelmed. The live cooking/entertainment part has been noticeably shortened. Here's the kicker: After we ate our food and sang happy birthday we were rushed by the server to pay our bills and I KID YOU NOT the manager literally came to our table to ask us to leave since we were done. On our way out there was a crowd of people so massive clogging the exit that it would give any fire marshall heart attack. They had clearly overbooked. Pretty decent hibachi and sushi. Went here to celebrate our team's milestone and we definitely had a good celebration by eating our lunch AND dinner portions worth. We ordered couple rolls and appetizers to share and along with our individual entrees. For appetizers, we ordered the rock shrimp, sashimi platter, and the asparagus fries. Asparagus fries were pipping hot and delicious. Sashimi was fresh and rock shrimp had a great flavor. Only thing to note is that portions are a bit small. For rolls, we ordered the spider roll and OMG roll. OMG roll (my pick btw) was on pointe. The roll itself is larger than usual and a bit hard to eat pretty but worth it to stuff your face. OMG is really fitting for this roll since it's OMG good. I can't say that I can really judge hibachi fairly since by this time, we were already stuffed. I got the steak and shrimp with fried rice. While the shrimp was good, I thought the steak was a bit on the bland side that I would ask for more seasoning. Overall, satisfactory meal and would come back to try other items on the menu. Glad to see that this "Ichiban" lives up to its name since my first ever gig in college was working at an "Ichiban." Oh and we sat on the table tops, not the hibachi grille. Ichiban is a great option for sushi and hibachi if you happen to be in the Alpharetta area. This location is a bit smaller than the Cumming location but the food is just as good and the service is wonderful. I came here for a sushi lunch with a friend and enjoyed everything.
