Disclaimer- this was the most delicious Poke I have ever had. And I eat Poke regularly. Great service, easy quick lunch. Food- wonderful gentlemen at the counter made a special for me. I got half Ahi Spice and Half seseami Ahi (sp) * the traditional style of poke*. They had to do the rice on the side. I mixed each of the pokes with my rice, together myself. It was amazing. The sweetest/nicest staff I've met thus far when it comes to a Poke shop. The Poke here is fairly priced and I think you do get what you pay for. The poke bowls are smaller (but that also means it's slightly cheaper than other places). They also sell spam masubi and are opened early if you ever want to swing by before you go on a hike etc. Note: I have seen lines around noon time so come here early (I came at 6:30am and there was barely anyone there and an abundance of fish!!) read more

So parking is tricky and it is TAKEOUT only BUT it is worth it! Pretty sure it's a LOCALS GO TO. Now the food was by far one of the best we have had in all the islands. The Teriyaki Meatloaf was fully flavored and not just slathered on top with the teriyaki glaze. The fried chicken was boneless yet it was tender and not dry with crisp and NOT GREASY. Now let's talk about the BALL OF pork Lau Lau. Not a lot of fat, but so tender. The leaf was packed with flavor and tender. This was my first time having Mac salad with 2 types of pasta but it was easy to ignore. I liked the mix, not to much mayo, a bit of potatoes and not salty. Service was quick. All of the staff was friendly and explained to us non locals that looked LOCAL how to order to our preferences. Ambiance is what it is. Fueled with efficiency, like a family owned business should be. Stopped here on our way up to Princeville. This is a take out only establishment. They are friendly and fast. Poke was tasty. We would return in the future. We got lucky that the nice owner of a neighboring business allowed us to sit at his tables otherwise we wouldn't have been able to eat comfortably. That's the only down fall. read more

PONO MARKET is still my favorite Kauai stop for casual, ono grinds. in easy walking distance of the Pono Kai Resort where my son and i stayed, it is a convenient and delicious place to swing by and pick up fresh poke or a plate lunch (Hawaiian-style meat-and-three -- two scoops of steamed rice, macaroni salad,​ and an entree). this visit, we went nearly every day for the laulau​ (pork steamed in a taro leaf), fried chicken, and pineapple chicken and most of the pokes. all were good. i only regret i didn't pick up a shirt this trip. i guess that gives me a readymade excuse for another visit. You would never guess it, but my favorite item here is the sweet potato haupia pie: nice sweet potato and haupia layers over a buttery crust. I went in initially for poke, but unfortunately, there were only about two or three poke varieties when I was there. I ordered the spicy ahi poke and octopus poke. Octopus poke was on the salty side (1 star off), but the spicy tuna poke was decent. The poke here is more gummy-like than other places for some reason. There is no rice or toppings available. I also got the spam masubi and fried chicken; both were good. Pono Market is a good grab-and-go place if you are in the area, especially if you want to pick up something at 6AM. Yes, they are open at 6AM! I can't imagine anyone eating octopus at 6AM, but I'm working on embracing diversity of thought. read more

We used to stop by here for plate lunches, but they are pretty much sold out of hot food by 10AM. Still have poke and snacks. They recommended a Musubi food truck nearby which was good, and had tables to eat at. I'll give them stars for being kind to their fellow foodies. read more

Best poke we had all trip, and we had a lot of places. The poke is large, fresh, and wonderfully flavored. It is a bit salty but I could still eat the whole thing. And after I ate the whole thing, I wanted more. Definitely a place you should not miss if you are visiting the island. Head to the back and get in line, and order as much or as little as you want. TL:DR - Great plate lunch place, with weird hours, that gets busy. My girlfriend had been wanting to get food from here for a couple days, but had to wait until Tuesday when they were open again. I got the fried chicken, with sesame ahi poke, and lomi lomi salmon. The plate when broke da mout! The chicken was still warm and crispy, and had a lot of flavor to it. The poke had the right amount of seasoning so that I could taste the freshness of the ahi. The lomi lomi salmon was the perfect tart flavor to really tie all the other foods together. Super super delicious and filled me to the brim. My girlfriend got the pork lau lau plate which was also incredibly tasty. Lau lau is meat wrapped in ti leaves that are steamed. It's similar to spinach but much better tasting. The lau lau was super soft and tender and the pork was oozing with flavor. It was dank AF and practically put us to sleep. Overall Pono Market served up some great grindz and I would recommend anyone in Kapa'a to stop by. read more

I love the spicy ahi poke that's served over a bed of warm rice which makes it comforting and a hearty island meal. They have a range of items on the menu from fresh poke to beef stew and their famous chicken/pork laolao that gets sold out sometimes before 12 even. Great people and great service, SOUL FOOD. The poke was so fresh and spicy! The best poke I have ever had. The pulled pork was juicy and delicious. Normally I don't eat pork but while on vacation I decided that I needed to eat it everywhere because it's not made the same back at home. The customer service here was five star. I like that they had a line and process of people getting into the market and out. They were checking temperatures and limited the amount of customers in the store.
