Found this place through Yelp. Visited with hubby and 2 toddlers that are super picky eaters. We had poke with rice and poy plus stuffed chicken. I also had a side of spicy edamame and cucumbers. Everything was great but the poke tuna was especially fresh and delicious. My toddlers ate the rice and cucumbers which was pretty amazing. The menu is very large for poke options and people helping us were patient in explaining the options and side dishes since it was our first time there. I would recommend checking the menu out on yelp and figuring out what you might like - the line can be pretty long and regulars want to be in and out quick. Worth the drive from wherever you are on the island! ;) Plate lunches are served with two scoops of rice and you can choose up to three items. Certain items are only available on certain days of the week so check the menu if you have your heart set on something. Pricing is not only based on number of items, but also on your choice of specialty versus non-specialty items or any combination thereof, plus whether you add poké or sides. You order/pay for your plate lunch at the counter. There are a couple of tables inside and out, but this is primarily a take-out place. I ended up taking my meal to nearby Lydgate Park where there's plenty of parking and shaded picnic tables. I really wanted to try their kalua pork so I came on a day they were offering that, so my plate lunch featured KALUA PORK, as well as FRIED CHICKEN AND SHOYU POKÉ. The portions were very generous and thank goodness too because it was all so good! The poké was the best I had during my trip. The fried chicken batter was slightly sweet and the chicken was juicy. Wow! Wife had the sesame ahi poke bowl with an extra side of spicy ahi poke (yes they will do that!) I had the sesame ahi poke and salmon shoyu poke with the lau lau pork. Everything was very very good and made for a perfect lunch on the beach in Poipu. Poke was the best we had while in Kauai. The Lau Lau is a MUST order. Incredible taste and paired really well with the taro leaf that the lau lau is wrapped in. The owner was super nice as well. Great service and recommendations. This place is THE BEST. If you're not familiar with Hawai'ian local food, please go here and eat REAL poke, not the crap they sell you at the trendy poke bowl places floating around the mainland. Also try the pork Lau Lau and don't be afraid of the pork fat. Animal fat IS good for you despite what the Gweneth Paltrow-y types say. Also try the Poi (the purple stuff) and use it to supplement your bites of Lau Lau, or whatever else you're eating. Despite what people say about it being heavy and overly starchy, Hawai'ian food CAN be healthy! Seriously do yourself a favor when you go to Hawai'i and EAT THE LOCAL FOOD FIRST before you tuck in to burgers or pizza! Otherwise stay at home on the mainland. Pono Market was conveniently located from where we were staying so we stopped by as we got groceries and other necessities. It was so cheap, but it was so delicious. There's been a ton of poke shops opening around the Bay Area, but thanks to Pono Market, it's really hard for me to want to go to any other poke place. The shoyu ahi tuna was my favorite and goes so well with rice. The fried chicken was also really good, very flavorful and filling. I was a bit tired of going to restaurants like Duke's or Merriman's. They were good, don't get me wrong, but I feel much more comfortable with small humble shops. Also great for buying some lunch to take with you to the beach! Although one warning is that the line may be long when you get there, but it moves fast. There were so many different kinds of poke that I will need to book a longer stay in Kauai to be able to try them all! read more

Yum! I love any place that serves poke and lunch plates! This place is set up like a deli, except instead of meats in the display case, it's all different kinds of poke. The menu is a bit confusing as it's just listed on a printed piece of paper on the side, but the workers are friendly and nice and explain how it all works! When I went here I got lau lau pork as my main with shoyu poke and Mac salad as sides and some lomi lomi salmon. Everything I had was perfectly seasoned and just tasted delicious. My favorite spot in Kapaa! I loved their staff and how friendly they were towards customers. Treated us like family and I appreciated their genuine care for us. I wish I knew the employee's name but we had brought our 1 year old daughter with us and he referenced his daughter who was also there, eating their delicious food. We came back for poke and were underwhelmed on this visit. I had loved the spicy ahi because I actually tasted some heat on our first visit; that was missing this time around. I did ask if it was possible to get an extra bit of sriracha or whatever was used for the spicy ahi and was told at the register "we don't have/do that." It was fine, but not great. The bummer was our shoyu ahi. I'll start by saying that I love salt, and I love ginger. This was a really saturated ginger salt bomb. This is a great local-owned market with super quality food and really friendly workers. They have great lunch combos and even greater prices! I came here for my last meal on Kauai with my boyfriend. I got the fried chicken with spicy ahi poke and a side of mac salad and rice. It was $11.50 and SO MUCH FOOD. I only finished half and took the rest for our plane ride home. My boyfriend was able to finish all of his food but he was super full! I definitely recommend the fried chicken, it was fresh, crispy, and hot! So many choices! I just told the girl to choose for me a three item hot combo. She choose for me lau lau pork, chicken long rice, and fried chicken. I've never had chicken long rice before and it's actually noodles! They are bean thread noodles (clear) and I love those, but never knew they came so fat. We also got a premade spicy shrimp maki roll and the sauce was pre mixed with a perfect soy and wasabi ratio. The chicken bowl seemed to be a very popular pick here and only about $7 if I remember correctly. I wanted to come back here and try something else but we didn't have time. Came here for my last meal in Hawaii and was not disappointed! They have plate lunches in addition to poke. I've read many good things about their fried chicken so that's what I got with Mac salad on the side. My girlfriend got the poke. I really liked the fried chicken. It was a bit sweet which is always a positive in my book. They gave a decent portion and I was stuffed after finishing everything. The Mac salad was also light and tasty. I like to think of Kaua'i as my home away from home because I have the privilege of visiting at least twice a year thanks to family living on the island. :-) Basically, I have plenty of places to compare Pono Market to and no where on the west side, south side, or north side compares to this little gem on the east side. As a family run business, Pono Market knows how to treat each and every customer like their extended family. Beloved by many locals and some lucky tourists in the know, it can get very busy during lunch time, but the line moves incredibly fast. A rotating speciality menu changes daily, but I can assure you that everything's good here. Poke is always fresh, fried chicken is bomb, shoyu chicken is flavorful, and kalua pig is tender & juicy. Can't go wrong any way you order! Food is also very reasonably priced - a huge plus. I like to grab a POG juice and coffee at the stand by the door to enjoy after my meal and it always hits the spot.
