Went with old friends recently for lunch, excellent food, excellent service and owner was so nice to us. One hopefully constructive comment. Fox news was playing on all your TVs. Unless ownership is trying to make a political statement this is a very bad idea. Our group, like most have different political opinions and we try to get away for a while at a nice restaurant like Ponte Vecchio. Instead we get blaring headlines from Fox causing comments and potential arguments. Stick with the local news on your TVs you will have happier customers of all political persuasions. read more

Service terrific, with owner and rest of staff, special mention to Christine 3 ordered special fish dinner, served with delicious spinach. I had the swordfish special, spectacular! Maybe they were just having a bad night, but I did not feel like our $50/person dinner was worth the money. The chicken and pork were very tough. We had to send the pork back and we were told the pork was pre-cooked. I expect freshly cooked food at a restaurant. Especially at that price. I felt bad for our waiter but he just couldn't get anything right. Everyone has an off day. The pasta dishes were okay but nothing that knocked my socks off. The tartare was good. I prefer 466 across the highway. The food is ok , but overpriced IMHO. The parking is tough at 466, and there appears to be ample parking across the way. Apparently, the owner of Ponte Vecchio appears to be a petty, spiteful man. There are signs threatening to tow cars patronizing 466. For those aforementioned reasons, I will NEVER patronize Ponte Vecchio again. read more

Went on a quiet Tuesday and was really pleased with this small, comfortable restaurant. Had a business dinner and enjoyed the great service, fast and delicious food. The restaurant has great access for travelers- right off the highway while still having a local feel. My group ordered antipasto to start- got the eggplant dish and it was perfectly sized and fantastic. Collectively, our table got a swordfish special with clams, a salmon plate, and a chicken dish. All the plates were cleaned with broad smiles- a huge hit all around. The only small tick may be that our waitress wasn't versed in wine, and that hurt as I am also a wine rookie. Not a big deal; she was also extremely pleasant and served us with very high attention. Very good restaurant. I would absolutely recommend it for anyone traveling through the Danvers / Reading area! read more

Service and food make up a good restaurant. Tonite service not there. I wish people would explain why meals are late coming out of the kitchen especially when Hungary. There sat person next to us who came in later eating his meal...15 minutes later was breaking point. After waiting 1 hour for our dinner I decided to leave. This restaurant is a longtime favorite, but I'm just getting around to reviewing it. Fresh ingredients, home-made bread and pastas, a warm, upscale atmosphere, and the super-attentive staff have us coming back again and again. The bar is elegant and very large. They have a fantastic martini menu, and the best super-thin crust pizza cooked in a wood fired oven. When we're not sharing pizza, we often share the grilled vegetable appetizer with the antipasto salad. Fresh ingredients make all the difference! For entrees, I usually get the filet mignon, and have never been disappointed, but I'll get the beef bracioli if it's one of the specials, because you just can't get it anywhere else on the North Shore. It's so tender, you don't need a knife. The red sauce is also fresh and light, with chunks of sweet tomato. As others have mentioned, it's family-owned, and it's clear that the owners care about the business. Oh, and save room for whatever home-made dessert is available. YUM! read more

Stopped by at Danvers to visit and decided to eat here with my mother, got to say I was disappointed. The staff was friendly enough and the ambiance was nice, but the food was below average. We ordered food and after a very long wait the appetizer arrived. The cooked octopus and calamari wasn't awful but it was a little bland and overcooked. The food arrived after another long wait and was definitely not up to par with the price. My veal wasn't awful but there wasn't enough sauce and it was a little cold, the bad part was the side pasta that tasted like someone had seasoned it with medicine. My mothers ravioli was also way below average, it was kinda like eating a ball of dough that has been sitting on the counter for a few days with some okay sauce. It had very little filling and was as hard as steel. Would probably not eat there again, unless it costed under 5 dollars and I was super hungry. read more

This was my go to place for Italian, as it was always fairly decent food. Although from day one the staff was always seemed bit inept. I excused this for the last three years but no more. I have never seen the same waiter or waitress twice in that time, so either the owner is a bear to work with or they just don't know how to hire good people. But, the kicker for me was when I ordered my Johnny WAlker Black, I just happened to see the bartender pouring JW Red a completely different scotch and cheap. It's not even the same color. When I brought it to there attention they vehemently denied doing such thing,for the sake of the dinner and the unpleasantness for my kids I choked the drink down and ordered a beer. The next time we went, I ordered a Johnny Walker Black again , this time it came out and it was Johnny Walker Black but it was watered down ( adding water to there bottles to stretch out the profit). This time the manager came over to the table with a bottle of Johnny Walker Black and said my accusations were ridiculous and it was poured from that bottle. I asked him to go get an unopened bottle of Johnny Walker Black and pour a drink and all would know just by the color ...they would not. All done with them, if they would go through such extremes at the bar , god knows what's going on in the kitchen. Spend your money elsewhere. read more

First ate here 17 years ago and happy to say they still have my favorite pasta on the menu: Paccheri alla Siciliana (eggplant, cherry tomatoes, smoked mozzarella and basil)... so simple, but they do it better than anybody. This is real italian food... some other favorites: --Calamari e Polipo alla Griglia (grilled calamari and octopus, borlotti beans and baby arugola) --Salmone con capper limone e verdure (seared wild salmon, lemon caper sauce and vegatables) I no longer work in the area... don't even live in the state... but every time I'm visiting... I feel like I have to make it back to Ponte Vecchio... their paccheri alla siciliana is that good. Restaurant is in one end of a small unexciting mall, looks like nothing from the inside... but the food will win you over. Eat in the dining room or at the bar. Friendly service. read more

This restaurant has an Italian name leading one to believe the food might be authentic. However, sadly it is quite sub par. I ordered two standard dishes, an arugula salad with shaved parmesan cheese. When I received the salad I saw no shaved parmesan cheese. I promptly asked the server where the cheese was and she said "it's in there somewhere". Well, it wasn't. I ordered rigatoni with pancetta and peas. The rigatoni was way over cooked, not al dente and the peas were canned and the pancetta consisted of two microscopic pieces. Soft watery pasta for a hefty $18. Way overpriced for less than mediocre food. If you have taste buds I would recommend staying far away from this overpriced restaurant that pretends to be Italian. I really don't enjoy writing poor reviews as there may be any number of factors that contribute to a poor experience. That said, I believe my last experience here warrants a word of caution to my fellow travelers. I may go back at some point to see whether they can redeem themselves but with all the choices we have in the area, that likely won't be for some time. First off, yes we made reservations so that excuse is off the table - even so a party of four shouldn't be difficult to handle. We arrived and the dining room was moderately active but not packed. We didn't realize until much later that there was only 1 waiter on for a dining room that looked to seat about 50. The waiter took our drink order and we were up front saying we were not in a hurry and would just enjoy the drinks for a bit. That generally means checking in every 15 minutes rather than every 5 but he was gone for 35 minutes. We then ordered a couple of appetizers and asked for some cheese for the bread and oil. I won't hold the wait against them since we did ask not to be rushed. While taking our dinner order, one of the party ordered an item from the Specials menu and it was already out. Let's see, Saturday night at 7 and already out? Seems odd but hey, it's the specials menu so I understand it's likely limited. We continue our order and then find two additional items from the regular dinner menu were also out of stock. Now temperatures are rising. That's a bad sign, usually means turnover in the kitchen or the owner is about to check out. We asked to speak with the owner and were told she was too busy in the kitchen - sorry, your restaurant is half empty and you have a party here on the verge of walking out. Even with all that we were willing to stay and about to order a second round of drinks when the waiter returns. We were hoping with some good news about the owner making an effort to improve our evening somehow and he promptly asked if he could take the bowl of grated cheese? Excuse me? Well it seems this was the single cheese bowl for the entire restaurant and they grate it fresh daily so don't want customers over-using it. Wait, I am eating out of a bowl that others have used and now that's being shared with yet another table? That was the clincher, goodbye. We paid for the appetizer and drinks and walked out. The waiter did come out to return our money which was the first class move of the night. Not the waiter's fault, he was clearly overwhelmed. I sincerely hope the owners either get more involved or hire a general manager to get thinks back on track. This could be a great spot but my experience demonstrates a lack of organization, to say the least. read more

Let me start of by saying I just signed up for Yelp because I needed people to know not to go here (waste of money!) It was my boyfriends 23 birthday so it had to be italian. We both LOVE italian food, and his mother makes great italian meals. Seriously should have stayed home and had a meal cooked by her, but we wanted to go out and celebrate. Mistake! Meals = Terribly made even the bread before the meal was gross it was hard as a rock, took about 2 hours to come out, rude service by our wait person, and then it ended up costing a fortune. NEVER AGAIN! Meals that were ordered by our table: Caesar Salad - Ok, but how hard it to make one of these? Mediterranean - Only redeeming factor was the candied hazelnuts. I got the tiniest bit of goat cheese on mine, the salad was over dressed and the tomatoes were cold and huge and tasted like rejects from stop and shop. Pork Chop - Didnt even taste like edible meat. It was heavily breaded, and the breading was BURNED. It was extremely dry and tasteless. The salsa on top did not pair well with the meat at all. I ate about 1/2 of it because of the price... but couldnt bring myself to finish it. horrible!!! Filet Mignon - The wine reduction tastes extremely strong, it was not reduced properly and I hate to say it but it tasted like what I'd think cat food would taste like, and looked like it too. you couldnt even taste the meat the sauce was too pungent. Ick! Salmon - Boring boring boring. I've had a better meal on frozen fish sticks! Chicken Parm - Huge piece of chicken with not enough sauce, and then a tiny bowl of pasta. The piece of chicken was a nice piece of chicken, but there wasnt enough sauce on it, or in the pasta. The Pasta was worse than pasta from a box. It has no taste, and was rubbery. Why did they come separately anyway? The one dish I did not taste was the prime rib for 2. I dont care how good it tasted it took about 2 hours to cook, and we had plans after dinner which we were late for because of the stupid slab of meat. DO NOT WASTE YOUR MONEY. GO TO THE NORTH END FOR REAL AUTHENTIC ITALIAN, its SERIOUSLY WORTH THE TRIP. read more

Only went to this place because we had a $100 gift certificate. Even knowing that, I was still skeptical about going due to the recent reviews. Service was awful. As soon as a bigger table was seated, it's like we didn't exist. Started with fried calamari- deep fried rubber bands, gross. I got the Eggplant parm and my husband got linguine with white clam sauce. His meal was so salty he almost couldn't eat it. We were heading to the 466 but as usual on a Saturday night their parking lot was full so I did what I have been admonished not to do and went to the parking lot across the street. We were immediately yelled at by a parking lot nazi so I thought, what the heck, let's give PV a try and see if our bad meal a few years ago was just a fluke. The dining room was half full which was better than usual so we figured we'd plunge right in and get a table. They have a large and elaborate bar but we were not offered a cocktail menu so just ordered a bottle of house wine ($39 and OK). We got some cold bread that was so-so, and eventually we were served our wine and our waiter took our order. After a good long wait our salads arrived. My misto salad was an uninspired bag of salad with some long strings of carrots that made it hard to eat, especially with the excessive amount of dressing. Hubby got the mediterranean salad which had more flavors, still a lot of dressing but he likes it that way. And then we waited. And waited. Got a good chance to watch the owner butcher some fish table side for two other tables. Honestly, I have seen salt baked fish served tableside and it can be a beautiful thing. Don't order it at PV unless you really want to end up with a plate that looks like cat food... and sauce. Waiting.. and then hubby gets served linguine con vongole. My pizza is nowhere to be seen. A waiter did come by and offer to remove his dish since mine was more than three minutes wait to go. I told hubby to dig in to his tiny clams and overcooked pasta. My carmellini pizza did finally arrive. Soggy in the middle and topped with lunchmeat ham. The menu said "cured ham" and shame on me for thinking that might be anything other than Hormel. Especially for $15. Their reaction to my complaint about the pizza - they took it away and offered to make me another. At this point the wine is gone, my head is almost on the table and I said no thanks. They brought out a piece of gummy banana chocolate something as a consolation prize. So for $100 i got a few leaves of slimy lettuce, a bad slice of pizza, and my husband had a handful of clams. Next time we'll just bribe the parking lot jerk and have a good meal at the 466. Maybe PV should consider charging $5 a car to park in their lot rather than trying to run a restaurant that is definitely "Kitchen Nightmares" worthy. read more

I passed this little restaurant every day and finally got a chance to check it out. Inside the decor looks like a homey Brooklyn restaurant and the wait staff are basically all family members. The food was all homemade, including the bread and food was delicious. The wine selection includes some Sicialian wines and were quite good. Strange! We arrived at the beginning of the dinner seatings. We were treated really well by the 'wait' staff. Very pleasant. The strange part came when we ordered and were later served. I ordered their grilled vegetables appetizer as part of my meal and my wife ordered as her mail course grouper and shrimp. A short time later the waitress came back to tell us they had no grilled veggies!!! On a Friday night in the middle of tourist season on the North Shore, you don't have any vegetables for a serving that's a regular part of the menu?? Okay, I adjust and we are now being served the main courses. Someone new out of the kitchen came out and apologized to my wife that the chef just informed them as he handed the waiter my wife's meal that he didn't have any shrimp!!!! Could they give her something in its place? Ditto on being without an ingredient for a main menu offering on a Friday night... I have to say, the food was very good. My homemade pasta with eggplant and tomatoes and my wife's grouper were both tasty. The chef (and as a result the owner) left me wondering what was going on. Heading north on 95 you can pull off at Topsfield road and stop at Ponte Vecchio for a quick lunch. I did that again and I was amazed at how authentic and delicious their food is. Pizza--stone oven, real cheese (not overdone) and suggo superb! Special fish was amazing with zucchini and carrot sauteed like "olio e aglio". The whole lunch was so reasonable and the service was excellent. Love this place! read more

Walked into Ponte Vecchio tonight. The Chef greeted us and politely told us they were closed. He probably saw that we were disappointed (and hungry) and then offered to make us whatever we wanted to eat. We were a little self-conscious, but accepted his offer and he made us an incredible arugula, mozzarella, prosciutto salad-honestly, one of the best salads that we ever tasted. He then made a delicious, thin crust pizza that was also incredible. The staff was great. Rather than being mad they had to stay late and serve us (and after a large party left, we were the only ones remaining at the restaurant), they went out of their way to be warm, friendly and welcoming. We have always enjoyed the ambiance, food and setting there, but tonight was one of those times when someone goes way over and above to make you feel very special. read more

If you're in Danvers and want Italian food then this is the only place to go. Ponte Vecchio is so good it could easily compete with several of the Italian restaurants in the North End. It's family owned and operated -- from the chef to the hostess to the waiters -- almost everyone is related. And that's very much part of the appeal as they treat you like part of their family. I've been going here for years and have never had a bad experience. The service is always quick, friendly, and attentive. And the food is always flavorful and hits the spot. I highly recommend the antipasto and the calamari for starters. For a main dish I suggest the gnocchi, pollo florentine, or ponte vecchio rigatone. read more

I lived in the North Shore area most of my life and had always heard about Ponte Vecchio but hadn't been there. We finally went for Sunday lunch to take my grandmother and found out that their Sunday menu featured Italian "comfort food". YUM. I'm not sure how different their usual menu is, but the entire Sunday menu looked amazing. My grandmother and I ended up getting the Beef Braciola with homemade gnocchi and it was UH-mazing. My girlfriend got the pasta with bolognese and it was also incredible, not sure which I enjoyed more! We also got an arugula salad which had just the right amount of vinaigrette on it, with a balsamic reduction that was sweet and tasty. To top it off, the service was fantastic. It was a beautiful day and even though they didn't have tables set up outside, we asked and they set one up for us. We can't thank them enough! I'm not sure if they usually do outside seating though, it looked like they did but it was strange that they didn't have tables set up on such a nice day. We'll be going back, for sure. read more

I was a little suspicious when I saw that it was across the street from the Honda dealership and part of a strip mall, but this place was really surprisingly delicious! Great Italian food, great service, white table cloths and napkins. it seemed like a lot of families who had been coming here for ages were at tables nearby. Came here with friends recently and we enjoyed it - the food was hit and miss: some was delicious but some of the menu items didn't quite work. The atmosphere of the dining room is simple hushed elegance; a place you can relax but also feel like you're somewhere special. We got several appetizers: One was a bay scallop special, which sounded very good on the menu. But when served, the scallops were not uniformly done. Some were a little over cooked and some were undercooked. And they were accompanied by a red pepper sauce that had a very heavy sesame oil flavor. Unfortunately the sauce fought with and overpowered the sweet flavor of the scallops, instead of complementing it. I got the salmon, which was beautifully presented, with a flavorful sauce that complemented the fish, and some gorgeous thin cut vegetables. A friend got a steak, which looked good, but I didn't try it. Another friend got the fluke special, which was filleted at the table - an interesting service to watch, but it kind of brought our dinner conversation to a halt while the server was standing there for 5 minutes serving the fish. And when he was finished, the fish was plated with some boiled potatoes, so, in essence it was a large plate filled with a pile of white chunks (fish and potatoes) - not very appetizing or appealing, though it was tasty, and enough of a portion that it could have been easily shared between a couple. The service was attentive, but a on the fussy side and a bit awkward. For example, the server brought our appetizers, and then proceeded to dole them out to each of us (which may just be the norm for this kind of restaurant). But then, after we had finished that first portion and were in the middle of conversation and enjoying our wine, he came back, interrupted us, and served more of the appetizers on to our plates. And there were several times throughout the meal that he came round to check on us, but then stayed a little too long at the table fussing with water glasses or some service items, almost like he was waiting for us to take our next bite to see if we really enjoyed the food. It's not a bad place to check out. Just be prepared for some highs and lows, and know that the highs outweigh the lows. The bar side is lively and seems like fun. That would be worth checking out after work sometime. read more

I am just eating the best Italian meal far away from Italy. I have been in Italy 10 times and I can easily recognized the real italian food, which is in this beautifully decorated restaurant. Owners themselves talk with guests and recommend the best options for meal according your preferences. I am looking forward to come back here again and it will be this Sunday May 3 rd for Operal Wine Dinner at Ponte Vecchio with 5 course and wines. I am very happy that my friends recommend me this restaurant becuase I live North Shore, so I don't want to drive far away to have real italian meal with great touch of italian culture and tradition here near by and I will be back this Sunday. read more
