Delicious! Passed this place over the years and never thought to go in and try for myself until now and I was not disappointed. Super Chief has definitely seen a décor upgrade and I love the garage door that opens to the patio from inside. The place is welcoming and warm, half of that is coming from the lovely staff. We were told we could sit wherever, so we took a seat on the patio. Some of the tables/chairs were updated but the one we sat at needed to be updated. Paint was chipping and hurt your arms when leaning. But this was my biggest complaint. Restrooms are single stall and updated and clean. Menu has lots of options from the classic coneys to hamburgers, sandwiches, and breakfast. Their foot long coney is most famous! Went with a loose coney, half order of onion rings, and their homemade coleslaw. A humble meal served on paper plates but the flavors are delicious! The onion rings had a great breading and were served hot. The loose coney had a great mix of chili, meat, and onions. The coleslaw was cool and super creamy. When you are done with your meal, you pay at the counter inside. A solid and comfortable local diner spot and you can't beat a yummy coney! read more

Hello my name is Skylar, I recently ate at Super Chief in Pontiac and it's a fantastic diner-esque coney island. The prices are very affordable and the portion sizes are great. The owner was very nice and was always doing what he could to help the server. They were not very busy and I don't quite understand why. The indoor and outdoor seating are very spacious and well maintained. The atmosphere was good with music playing in the background at a good volume and the food was very good cooked perfect to order. This was a throwback to Jamie W.'s childhood, and just before we headed to the airport to head home, he felt a burning desire to stop here with his parents and me. As anyone in Detroit knows, you can get a Coney dog pretty much anywhere, but here at Bob E's Super Chief, they toast their buns. As luck would have it, we were there when they were selling their Coney dogs six for $12. Such a deal and such an excuse for gluttony, but fortunately his parents took the extra dogs home. Good and filling but nothing that special even with a toasted bun (photo). My new thing is adding chili to my breakfast. And I have cruised by the Chief with their sign glaring and advertising the footlong and coney's, it looks pretty good from the outside so I pull in to give their breakfast a shot. And the Chief is pretty good, really for me today it was the potatoes, the scalloped potatoes were sliced thinly cooked crispy on the edges and just right. And what can I say, the festive paper plate worked. I got the standard breakfast, two eggs, toast, potatoes and sausage links, oh yeah and don't forget the chili, got me a little side of that. That's the ticket, chili and the rye toast made my breakfast just what I needed to start my day off, shopping for the Christmas holidays. The lady acted annoyed by my order and hung up on me. So I get my coney and there is triple amount of onions so I called there to completion bc it wasn't even edible it was my 7 year olds dinner and the lady had the nerve to tell me to hold onto the loaded onion coney and bring it back the next day. She acted as though I was trying to scam a free coney. I've worked in the food industry for 25 years and never did I treat someone so rude over something so simple. EXTREMELY EXTREMELY DISAPPOINTING. I'd been wanting to try this place for a long time but never got around to it. I was out & about early this morning, so I decided to go there for breakfast. The place is tiny but has a lot of nostalgic decoration. This seems to be a place with a lot of regulars. The server chatted with the people she knew but was also very personable and friendly to me. I ordered the Mexican omelette with rye toast. It was odd to me that she asked I wanted jelly & what kind, rather than having it on the plate or in a caddy on the table, but it was no big deal. The omelette was good, and the server was very on top of refilling my coffee. She offered a box when she saw that I hadn't finished my meal. The prices are very reasonable, but I dislike that they have a 3.5% charge for using credit cards. But at least, the sign was prominently placed so it wasn't a surprise charge. read more

The only place to get a footlong coney. Super Chief has always set itself apart with the way they prepare their coney. The buttery grilled bun sets it apart. The staff is always friendly and the service quick. A great place for a quick lunch. They offer a variety of coney/diner style food as well as baked desert specials but I've only ever ordered the Super Chief footling. read more

My wife grew up in Michigan eating Coneys. So when we visit we end up eating at several different Coney places. I however did not grow up eating Coneys so will usually order something else off the menu but will taste hers. Super Chief is the only place I will actually order a Coney as they are some of the better ones I have tried! The toasted bun does make a difference. This restaurant is no longer "Bob E's" Super Chief. The new owners used to own the Olde Village Cafe near me in Clarkston, so it was good to see how what used to be a campy place catering to locals & factory workers might have changed. The style has been kept, cleaned up, & improved. Yes, there's the Chief Pontiac remembered, but the slightly grungy feel is gone. The restaurant now has been expanded with a garage door/patio able to open up & generally been made more comfortable. The food stays an American cafe style. The negative reviews I see here all date to the time before it changed hands. 2021 is a long way from 2019 here. Yes, they still serve the signature footlong on their sign, but my husband tends to eat only plain hot dogs or burgers & so he's quick to be picky. He has had it before & now with the restaurant change. He's very happy & will go out of his way to eat here. Personally I enjoy their soups! This has the same type of menu as your local coney & more & they will do all they can to give you what you want. Best of all, unlike the usual coney hours, they are open until 5 so late lunches are possible. Please drop the "Bob E's" part of this restaurant & those 2019 negative reviews. Tried both that & today's restaurant & am very pleased with the changes in looks, taste, & service. read more

I really like the inside of this restaurant, but I think there's only one booth, which I prefer. Seemed very clean. I've had breakfast there twice and the food is ok; the service was slow. For a place that seats probably 40 with two servers and wasn't busy, that's not something that is ok. How slow is slow? Took almost ten minutes waiting for the check. This is the penultimate blue collar, auto plant worker's lunch spot. There are many coney island joints in southeast Michigan. At Bob E's Super Chief, you can try the best Coney Dog made in Metro Detroit. The hotdogs come with very good chilli, mustard, and onions - that's all standard fare (though their chilli is better than many). The big difference with Bob E's conies is that the outside of the bun is toasted to a golden, crunchy, mouth-watering taste. 4-5 person operation, this small business has lots of homey charm and a delightful staff that make anyone feel welcome and cared for while sitting on a stool at the counter or at a booth ... or outside on the patio. Bad vibes from the start. The waitress was argumentative and didn't answer simple questions about the menu. The orange juice came in plastic foam cups half filled with ice. Did the prices go up? Went with my hubby and son. Ordered 2 malts, foot long, coney, mushrooms, onion ring, and a omelette. Total came to 38 bucks. Keep driving pass this place... It's a small place that's easy to pass. Looked as if there were a few locals. I ordered the tuna melt and the menu states that it comes with chips. I asked her over the phone and she said it didn't. When I arrived, i looked at the menu and yep, it says that it came with chips. Her response...oh we don't have any. Then she turned around and said oh that's a typo. To top it off, they charge a $0.27 merchant fee(processing fee) to all orders of you use a credit or debit. Who does that? Sure, you can pick apart a coney dog and choose your favorite places for chili, dog, bun, etc. but Bob E's Super Chief is the superior coney overall and is by far my favorite coney restaurant in all of Detroit. The place is small and unpretentious; it is tidy and clean. Memorabilia from years gone by decorate the walls, it gives the place a homey feel to see such personal affects. It can get a little crowded at lunch as a line forms at the counter for carry outs, but the staff keeps things moving in their usual friendly and attentive style. Yes there are burgers and other items on the menu which I have tried over the years and find to be good, but the draw for me is the coneys. My usual order is foot longs, onion rings with some famous Miami sauce, and a cherry coke. I always see some nice looking desserts in the case on the counter but after 2 or 3 foot longs I so far have passed on pie, one of the few rare cases in which I do. Served simply in a hot dog tray, it is a quintessential coney experience. I do admit that I usually ask for a fork and knife. The buns are toasted that much is obvious. What other kitchen wizardry are they conjuring up over there with the dogs? You can easily see all the action in the kitchen from the counter or booths. The prices are more then reasonable, and I consider them cheap. I look for an excuse to hit this side town just to stop in at Bob E's, and take my son when I can so he can grow up knowing the best coneys I have ever experienced. read more

I just had a hankerin' for a coney today and a yelp search led me to Bob E's big chief and I am so glad it did The joint reminded me of the kind of places I remember as a kid. Just packed with charm. It's tiny! I went at 1030 AM on a Thursday and had the place all to myself. I parked at the tiny counter. Greeted by two very nice ladies. I had a big chief with everything ( chili, mustard and onions) I really never order a coney with the onions because I just don't like raw onions, but I wanted to try this one with everything. I will simply say that this was the best coney. the best hot dog experience of my life. The grilled buttery, crunchy perfect bun was so good I almost cried. The chili was mellow, flavorful. The mustard was very subtle, I almost didn't notice it and the onions were soft and very very mellow. I scarfed the whole foot long thing in no time flat. And hours later I did not have the slightest regret for ordering a coney. My only regret was that I didn't have another one in front of me!! The fries were also fantastic. Cooked perfectly. Really nice potato flavor, and a nice mixture of smaller sized crispy fries and larger soggy fries. Hot and perfect I've had Lafayette, Had American ( even had one of each on the same night to see which one I liked better) had Lipumas, National, Kerby's Leos etc etc etc. I suppose Lipuma is the best of the rest, but not on the same planet as this deal I had today This is by far and away the best hotdog/coney I've had in Detroit. Toasted bun for the win! Super Chief has the best coney in Michigan! Seriously. Each footlong comes with their signature chili, mustard and onion. The same recipe and style from the day they opened shop in 1952. The interior of the restaurant is tiny. Luckily some regulars saw us come in and gave up their seats during their post meal discussions. We returned the favor after our meal. First impressions are lasting. Unfortunately, my first impression here was not a favorable one. When I arrived, I noticed the restaurant is rather small, maybe 7 tables and a counter top with chairs. I stood at the counter for awhile waiting to be serviced. I was the only one at the counter at first, as the waitress passed me twice without any acknowledgment. Two additional patrons walk in and the waitress totally ignores me and immediately asks them if she could help them. (I guess I didn't realize I was invisible) So, I kindly said to her, I've been waiting for awhile and was here before them, i would like to place an order. She ignored me. She continued to wait on the other patrons to my complete and udder chagrin. Her excuse for not waiting on me initially was quite disingenuousness. In a nutshell, the service left a lot to be desired. Before I was treated so rudely, I must say that I was quite eager to try this place after reading the reviews. A grilled coney bun: winning! It is hard to say if this establishment should get 3 or 4 stars - according to my husband (who ate the chili and the hot dog) there is no reason to drive past a Kerby's to get to Super Chief. I thought it was better than 3 stars, but I had a salad and fries... so 3 stars it is. Like others mentioned the bun is toasted. My husband says the chili was tasteless. So meh-chili on a hotdog with a toasted bun he says is 3 stars. The chili cheese fries had shredded cheese on it that wasn't totally melted... Service was super fast and friendly, the restaurant has 4 stools and 5 booths with a tremendous carryout business, so don't be surprised if you have to wait a moment. read more

This place is a small place with a good lunch menu and friendly people. What makes this a great Michigan Coney is the meat,good chili and a toasted bun.I would love to see a more diverse coney menu but that's just me. The parts team from Lunghamer Chevrolet was very disappointed on 11/02/2018, we sent out for lunch and it wasn't up to par as in the past, a couple of our Miami Burgers were missing the special sauce, thousand island I think, missing the cheese, someone here ordered the tater tots and they were over done, melted the container and were hard! not sure what happened but this will be our last visit there, too bad because we were always happy in previous visits. read more

Wow! If you haven't tried the footlong Super Chief you need to get one asap and give it a try! I eat dogs all over but you have a unique one here. Toasted bun, tasted more like grilled with buttery flavor anyway awesome, chili was very tasty and classic mustard and onions but that "crunch" when you bite into it melts in your mouth. Nice sleeve bag for carryout..I ate in my car I couldn't wait to try it. thats all I had. Next time gonna try something else but one of these fabulous footlongs will be going home in a carryout!
