I've passed by this place a couple of times, and since we were glamping in Blanco over the weekend, we decided to give it a shot. Glad we did! Arrived on a rainy Saturday to a very welcoming bunch. Peggy met us at the door and said to sit wherever and they would come to us. Made our way to a cozy table and Connie came over with bottled water, a tasting menu, and a great smile. She went over options, asked about what we like, and we settled on a nice bottle that we could both drink and enjoy. By then, the owner, Pat, was set up and started playing guitar...he's a pretty good picker...and he sings about as well as I do...but still very entertaining. Great guy to talk with... Peggy did take me on a mini tour of their production facility...would classify this place as a nano winery...small batches done in a not so traditional way...mostly West Coast grapes and made in single batches and aged in carboys. The results speak for themselves...damn good wine at fair prices. Great venue...too bad it was dumping down rain...they have a couple of pergolas out back as well as lots of open seating..next time. When we finally had to go...2.5 hours later, we felt like they were family...very genuine people who love what they do and have a passion about their products. read more

Stopped here on way back from dropping kids off at grandmas house. Awesome friendly staff and quiet place to enjoy some good wines. They specialize in white wines l which usually isnt my jam but had a couple of the dry side that i really liked, enough to bring several bottles home. I came through here to spend some extra time between visiting San Antonio and seeing friends in Austin. Right when I walked in the door I got a warm, welcoming greeting and an invitation to sit wherever I liked. I chose a nice spot on the patio, and sampled all six of the wines. From sitting down and trying the wines, Ms. Peggy gave a thorough report of the winery's history and a description of the wines. Each one was delicious, and I chose two (Spike and Tangle) to have a glass of while enjoying the weather. To top it all off, Ms. Peggy cooked some popcorn on the fire and shared it with me. If you're looking for an amazing local-style experience, then this is your place. They specialize in Riesling wines here, but they do have some outsourced reds available if you really want some. They have a really good variety of Rieslings: some dry and some sweet. I was already a fan of the dry one, but the semi-sweet ended up being our favorite. It was just the perfect balance of sweet and dry! It was so good that we took like 3 bottles home I also appreciate the ambience and the service. The sunset was beautiful! They have cornhole if you and your friends are looking for something to do, but really the environment was great to sit and talk. I also want to point out that they had excellent service. At one point I got stung by a fuzzy caterpillar, and both our server and the owner kept coming back to check on us. In general, they have a great vibe, and they provide amazing customer service that you can only get at a local spot. TLDR: We had a wonderful experience. They specialize in Rieslings, and their semi-sweet was our overall favorite. The service was exactly what you'd expect from the Southern Hospitality vibe, and their sunsets really were the best. The staff are very friendly and welcoming. My group and I had the pontita white wine tasting, and it was amazing. You get a taste of 4 wines, produced by the owner, with a bit of background about each wine from the owner himself. I don't know much about wine, so I really appreciated that he took the time to explain its history, the process it takes to make it, as well as the differences among wines, champagnes, and sparkling wines. The wines were pretty good, but my favorite was the semi-sweet Riesling. Be warned, I have a sweet tooth. If you like dry, fruity wines, the tart apple dry Riesling or the rarity dry Riesling are good choices. The physical vineyard itself is a work in progress, which was explained when we first arrived, but I believe when it's completed, it'll be beautiful. read more

We called ahead to make sure that the winery was open and to see what restrictions they had in place. They let us know that they were social distancing and wearing masks (as well as having plenty of outdoor seating). When we arrived we were two of the four guests there and were lucky enough to have Pat, the owner, spend some time with us. He walked us through the wine tasting and some really interesting wine history during our visit. He was very welcoming and engaging the entire time. When we left, we wanted to purchase a bottle from him and he graciously allowed us to sample that wine (as we had not tried it during the tasting) before purchase. The tasting area is very nice and open with a beautiful pergola out back. We were very pleased with our experience and will definitely be back soon for some more wine and some more history! read more

I was on my way to another winery when Pontita popped up on my radar. I'm always game to try new places, so I made the little detour. I wanted love the mission and the future vision of the place. The server spent an inordinate amount of time ensuring that I understood how hard the owner was working to bring this place to fruition. She also explained in infinite (read way overdone) detail how much the owner cared about people, the community, and wine. She pointed him out to us several times, but he never bothered to look up from his computer or acknowledge our existence in any way and we were there a good hour or more. I think you have to pay extra for him to talk to you. See below. Air-conditioning in Texas is a must! Apparently Pontita thinks otherwise. This warehouse type tin box with high ceilings was stiflingly hot and uncomfortable. The fans did little more than stir the hot air. I would call this hostile working conditions. I felt bad for the servers! Apparently the owner knows a lot about wines because it seems that he charges $4.00 per person extra to talk to his customers. Pass. Oh, the wines. They were all Rieslings. They weren't that good. Do better Mr. Winery owner. Don't charge your customers extra to talk to them. read more

What an incredible staff, they made us feel at home instantly like we were with friends and family. They have amazing plans on expanding the location to include a wedding venue and picnic area. What a cute and an EXTREMELY Devine winery! It specializes in Riesling wines but they do offer red wines. We had a SPECTACULAR TASTING with Pat and he personally did our tasting with outstanding education on the wines! The views are outstanding! Jen greater is as we arrived and so nice and informative as well! Pat said they will be offering g their own Red wines in late summer/early fall! Came here on a whim on our way back home and was pleasantly surprised. This place is still under construction for multiple buildings in anticipation of the necessities of a wedding venue (anticipated 03/2020). Two of my granddaughters were in town from Houston. We wanted to support small businesses over the weekend. Pontita was one of the wineries we patronized. Upon entering the building we received a warm Texas welcome. We were seated on the patio. This is a very new winery so the vines are limited and the ambiance under development. The waitress shared the vision with us in detail. I recommend limiting this presentation to a high-level with a display board to which they invite customers to review. We all ordered the white wine tasting flight. Pat the owner serves the tasting. With the first wine he spent significant time explaining the wine, discussing the wine making process, and waiting for us to finish that wine. He arrived with the second wine and continued with another detailed presentation. I advised him I don't get to see my granddaughters much and we would like to have conversation amongst ourselves. It was apparent from his body language that he was offended by my request. Rather than assume customers want to listen to a lengthy presentation with each wine, provide a card explaining each wine and ask the customer if they would like to know more. While the three of us each has different preferences in wine, we agreed Rarity was the best. Nice done! We bought two bottles on our way out. Once they fulfill their vision for the property and recognize customer preferences, this should be a great place to enjoy some wine and hopefully a better selection of small plates. read more

We were RVing at Guadalupe River State Park and wanted to do a wine t asting. We found Pontita nearby. Beautiful winery with lots of additional plans for their future. The Owner runs it as non-profit; only taking in what is needed to run the winery, pay staff and make the wine. He gives profits to an abused woman shelter -- nice! He also concentrates on Rieslings. We do not by nature like Rieslings, however, these are not sweet or overly sweet. We did the 5 Riesling tasting and were very impressed with them all -- so much so, we bought a bottle of our favorite. Our server was super nice, informative and made our tasting even more enjoyable. The owner Pat certainly knows a lot about wines and would give you a good talk on it. But the vineyard per se is under construction, so paying for a tour there is worthless. Would recommend just doing a wine tasting with the cheese plate. We bought one of the wines at the end, and it was 25 dollars, which is certainly a bit overpriced compared to the really good wines you get outside.
