Kyle's creative special... pepper tuna sushi!

Our happy place! Wine 101 isn't just a wine bar, it's where my husband proposed, where Saturdays feel like a warm hug, and where the people make every visit special. Kyle and Paul are absolute cuisine wizards, and Joe, JT, and Nicolas always help us discover the perfect pour. Sonya and her husband bring the cheer, charm, and good vibes that make this place feel like family. Between the live music, the delicious nosh, and the welcoming energy, it's our favorite spot in town.

Ordered a glass of cab. Terrible. Went to see if I could switch it and the guy behind the counter literally said, "No, it's your wine, you ordered it, I'm not taking it back". Unbelievably rude. There are many ways to say no. That's not it. He then brings food we ordered, sees the wine and asks if I would like to order another AND reminds me again that he's not taking the one I have back. Again, there are many ways to say no. Rude and confrontational customer service. I'll be sharing.

Wine 101 is a great space to hang out, have a glass of wine (or bottle) and listen to music. There is also a brewery in walking distance if you're not a wine fan. Service was great! Very attentive! The only negative would be the food I had first time around. The chips and queso kinda tasted like velveeta cheese, we added the ground meat to it, but it just didn't add anything. Their chips were store bought and thick, I'm not a big fan (my husband loves those kinda chip!) the other food we had was the lobster bite with garlic butter and Texas toast. For the price and what was served we were both very disappointed. The lobster was okay, but didn't have the "garlic butter" I was expecting, and the Texas toast was just toasted bread with no butter. We both agreed that everything else besides the food from that night was awesome! We do plan on going back and trying the charcuterie or a flat bread!

We love how welcoming Wine 101 is! We ordered the lobster bites, BLT, and one friend got a pepperoni flatbread. We enjoy coming to play mahjong and grab dinner together. The staff always asks about how our game is going, and doesn't mind us having fun.

We went to Wine 101 on a Saturday night with two other couples. I'd been a few times in the past and it had been a great experience. Apparently things have drastically changed. We sat outside and needed to go to the bar to order food and wine as there are no longer servers. There's hardly any space at all inside. The live music outside is really nice. The process to order wine and food took a very long time. We ordered the meatballs with raspberry chipotle wine sauce and they were good, but it kind of tasted like we were getting samples at Costco. They're okay but not great. We also ordered the chopped avocado chicken salad and it was pretty good. The hummus and pita bread were good as well. Nothing really special though. The very best thing we tried was the carrot cake. It was really delicious. Everyone ordered a few bottles of sparking wine and they kind of hand you a container with ice to carry to your table while you are also carrying your glasses. No one ever came to remove the food when we were finished eating and oh my the flies were everywhere. We even moved the plates to try and get the flies to stay away. I don't know if they are short staffed by choice or because they can't find anyone but honestly, for the prices there should be servers and people to clear plates and empty bottles. We decided to leave and go elsewhere. I don't think we will return and Helotes has many new places that we can try.

Party of 3 for dinner.we were able to walk in and seat ourselves immediately. Joe was our waiter for the night, the sweetest bartender to date. He recommended certain drinks and food items. We went ahead and ordered a bottle of wine, and with that came a free flat bread. The flatbread we ordered was the bacon and goat cheese. It was so delicious. Crispy edges and the goat cheese was creamy with a nice crisp bacon on top. It did have a balsamic drizzle as well. We also ordered the meatballs, and even though the dish did not look appetizing, it was one of the best meatballs I have ever tasted. We also ordered the Caprese salad, and well, you can never go wrong with that. Lastly, we ordered the 101 charcuterie board, and there was so much food that we had to take it to the to-go box home. The place was not busy, so the ambiance was nice and quiet. The place was clean. A must stop for drinks and great apps.

1/2 price wine bottles on Wednesdays

Nice outdoor seating in the middle of a courtyard with soft string lighting surrounding the perimeter. Cool ambience and dog friendly. Inside of Wine 101 is nice and elegant. I enjoyed the live music and 1/2 price bottles of wine on Wednesdays. HOWEVER, wine can be a bit pricey for the brand IMO. They had a Canyon Lake red that normally sells well under $10 and are selling it for quiiiiiite a bit more. So, do your research to see if you're really getting a deal...or just paying for the area. I walked to a shop and bought a couple cute jumpers for fall from a nearby boutique that was still open at 10 pm . I've been during the day and had coffee at their coffee shop while working. All in all, cut me spot to hang out with friends or yourself. I'll def be back for the ambience..may just bring my own beverage ‍ DJM!

My friend and I had an awesome time at Wine 101! This hidden gem is definitely worth checking out. Very nice wine selection (and half off some on Wednesdays!) as well as charcuterie and other food choices. I'll be back for sure!

It is a beautiful venue, nicely appointed with booths, tables, and a huge gorgeous bar. Their happy hour is one of the best in town. Both Tiffany and Heather are great, and the owner Kim is so engaging! You feel welcome the second you come through the door and you can tell a lot of love went into the restaurant's creation. I will say the Sunday all day happy hour and trivia game is a bit too crowded and noisy for me. So I'll stick to the other evenings in the future. And I'm gonna tell all my friends about this great place!

They were pretty busy with reservations when we arrived so we sat at the bar. They have happy hour from 3-6 Wednesday- Friday and all day Sunday. They have a separate happy hour menu with bites and a couple different wines. There main menus does consist of wines from multiple regions of the world. They also have wine flights for you to sample new things . My wife and I ordered the meat balls and the cellar cut flat bread . The meat ball's were very tender with excellent flavor and are served with a marinara sauce and ricotta cheese. It's also accompanied by two slices of garlic bread. The Flat bread was a nice portion size for two . It is meant for those who love cheese as the mozzarella and feta are very present. The meat portion could be a bit more for me ( I'm a carnivore). The dough was nice and airy and the flatbread overall was tasty. The feta was a bit too much for my taste. Could have done less. I started with the GSM and my wife with the Cab Sav from happy hour . The GSM was flavorful, a little bold, but a little bitter to me. The Cabernet was very fruity and full bodied . We tried a couple other wines that were spot on. This is a nice place to have wine with friends and bites. It is a nice size and has an excellent atmosphere. Very nice decor and bright. We will be back !

There are a few tables as well as high tops and the bar top available for sitting. The staff is usually really kind, though not always as knowledgeable about wine as you may expect. By no means do I need a wine connoisseur to be employed, but to at least know the basics would be important. We had a staff take our order and another drop off a wine flight and then said that it went from the driest to the sweetest, but was saying a Cabernet is sweeter than Zinfandel which is wildly inaccurate. Of course I bartended for 10 years and served tables for another 5 so I was able to tell my husband the correct information. However, if someone doesn't know wine well and expects something specific, they may be disappointed by the misinformation. We always get the wine flights so my husband can have reds while I enjoy whites along with some small plates or snacks. The food is enjoyable and decently priced for it being a wine bar and not a restaurant.

As local residents who were eager to finally visit, our experience was disappointing, revealing a…read morenumber of issues that detract from the establishment's potential. Deficiencies in Service and First Impressions The initial experience upon arrival immediately set a negative tone. There was no staff presence at the door, and no clear, written signage indicating the proper protocol for seating--whether to wait, check in, or simply seat oneself. This lack of guidance forces guests into an awkward uncertainty, which is unacceptable for any hospitality business. After finding our own way to the covered patio, we observed servers casually chatting amongst themselves while intermittently looking in our direction. A more professional approach would involve staff being observant and quickly moving to acknowledge and seat new arrivals. When a server finally approached our table, the interaction was severely lacking in basic professional etiquette: * No greeting was offered. * No menus (drink or food) were provided. * The only opening line was an abrupt inquiry: "Are you ready to order?" These omissions suggest a fundamental lack of staff training in business etiquette and basic customer service procedures. A proper initial interaction should involve a warm welcome, an introduction of the server, and the immediate presentation of menus. Operational and Marketing Misalignment A major deficiency is the misalignment between the bar's online presence and its current operational reality. The website prominently states, "DRINK. EAT. VISIT.," creating an expectation that a food menu is available. We were informed by the server that the cook had quit and no food items were available. This is a critical failure in both operations and marketing transparency. The website must be immediately updated to reflect the current operating posture and manage customer expectations. The suggested workaround--ordering food from Fralo's Pizza next door--while a temporary solution, begs the question of why a patron wouldn't just choose to go to Fralo's directly. This situation undermines bar301's identity as a full-service establishment. Limited Offerings and Infrastructure Issues Further disappointment arose regarding the beverage service. Upon ordering frozen margaritas, we were informed that the bar does not prepare frozen margaritas. For an establishment specializing in drinks, a common and popular request like a frozen margarita should either be available or clearly noted as unavailable before ordering, especially given the lack of a drink menu. Beyond service, the physical space itself presents an issue. The location appeared unappealing and partially rundown. While the primary product is the experience, the ambiance is a critical component. Management needs to make a tangible effort to improve the aesthetic appeal and overall maintenance of the space to create a more inviting and lasting impression. Conclusion and Recommendations Our visit was cut short, as the cumulative impact of these deficiencies led us to seek an alternative venue (Silo Oyster Bar) where we anticipated a more professional and competent service standard. To improve customer experience and ensure long-term viability, bar301 management must immediately implement the following: * Mandatory Staff Training: Institute comprehensive training on basic business etiquette, professional greeting protocols, menu presentation, and proper table service. * Operational Transparency: Immediately update the website and any external marketing materials to accurately reflect the current food service status. * Front-of-House Management: Establish a clear and well-communicated seating protocol, including a dedicated host or signage for customer guidance upon entry. * Facility Upgrades: Invest in improving the appeal and maintenance of the space to align the physical environment with the perceived quality of a San Antonio destination. Addressing these critical points will be essential to make a better and lasting impression on both local and visiting customers.

A reviewer mentioned that being here gives the feeling of hanging in someone's wine cellar which is the impression I got as I set foot in here. With the word wine being the in name of the establishment, you will find an extensive selection of wines available by glass and bottle and categorized by white types and red types. Being a Zinfandel guy, the bartender turned me to the Girard "Old Vine" Zinfandel. This is a pricy wine at $25/glass. I enjoyed the hell out of it as it's one of the better Zinfandel's I've ever had. Definitely steep at $25. I probably should've gone with the wine flight which is what my friend did before he switched to a Malbec. I forgot which one he did but the flights are all prearranged to compliment one another. It makes for a nice experience if you're not sure what wine you want to zero in on. As for food, we paired our wine with a charcuterie board. It's a standard board with some baguette slices and a mix of cheeses and meats with a candied jalapeno spread. A very nice compliment to wine. They have happy hour, wine of the month, and a wine/dine theme for every month where they pair wines with a themed menu. Plus sangria is available as well. Also there is wine tasting every Wednesday so the place gets packed from what I heard. But I'd certainly be open to attending one. Can't wait to come back here!
