Beautiful location and would've expected more from even a brunch at the Park Hyatt. What a missed opportunity! When you are paying $68 per person for ANY meal, you would expect better than lukewarm hot food options. Also, when a big guy asks for some tri-tip, give him more than 3 tiny slices! $30 bottomless mimosa with no server on the floor to provide refills. I almost grabbed the bottle from the server station and served myself. My partner ordered a second beverage which never came (servers DO realize they get bigger tips for higher checks, right?!). No plates for the dessert bar. No mugs for the hot chocolate station. No manager on site to give feedback to. Very disappointing. Also, you need to update your menu online so people understand this is a brunch buffet - the email that stimulated our reservation said nothing about a buffet, nor did the website. We decided to stay and try it and it was like flushing our money down the toilet. As a long time fine dining professional living in North County, I'd love to help you bring this place up to par;) Untapped potential just wasting space. read more

Wow, fantastic dinner! We were thinking this would be a typical hotel restaurant but this truly surprised us, especially the food quality plus the beautiful open kitchen! Loved the "roast" daily special and now have to go back soon to try all the options for other days of the week. My fellow locals, you have to try it! We stayed at the Park Hyatt and had breakfast at Ponto Lago for three days straight - the service was excellent (thank you, Natalie!!) and the food was delicious. Since it was a holiday week, they offered a breakfast buffet with the most exceptional pastries. Like, shockingly good. I'm not even a pastry person and I INHALED their croissants and pan dulces. We also had dinner with friends one of the nights we stayed and the food was delicious, as well. Highly recommend the branzino. We will definitely be back!!! read more

This was my first visit after the renovations and I was thrilled. We sat outside on the patio with heaters and it was very comfortable. Our server was outstanding. I ordered the fish tacos. Delicious. My girlfriend loved her sushi roll. We shared a veggie dish of brussels sprouts and mushrooms that were great too. But we paced ourselves, we had our eye on the churro dessert that came with two dipping sauces: one fruit and one chocolate. It was the best dessert I've had in a very long time. Excellent Service! Dominic backed up by Saied, was outstanding! Even if the food was mediocre, which it was not at all, having spectacular service can make a dinner memorable. The food was very imaginative and very well executed. We really loved having Saied visit our table as he worked tirelessly and thoughtfully, to ensure we were not in need of anything. Dominic was highly knowledgeable about each dish and provided the perfect suggestions and parings. We were well taken care of all evening. We had the ceviche as well as the smoked hamachi to start, followed by the whole branzino along with the ember roasted mushrooms and charred potatoes with chorizo verde, and the strawberry tres leches. All were fantastic, with excellent flavor and each dish so much different than the others. Very unusual to have a hotel restaurant so good it could stand on its own. So fricken good. The service was thoughtful, not rushed, and kind. The guy, Ted, knows his stuff; from food to liquor to life. He paired and described everything perfectly. The taste of the food was unique and beautifully laid out. My favorites were the ceviche tour, burnt cabbage, and distillery's tasting of tequila. And don't even forget the setting. Wonderful dinner! Atmosphere nice, not stuffy, in beautiful Aviara Park Hyatt. Food was excellent, if a bit pricey, but food portions and some unique preparations. The flight of ceviche was amazing, after smoked drinks...so unique. And chocolate con churros for dessert! Compliments to the staff, top to bottom. Waiter (Dominic?) was great, informative and interested in our opinions, all without being intrusive. Sommelier helpful (FYI he advised us for an off menu Cabernet Franc from Carr..I demurred but went to Carr a few days later and tasted it...great suggestion!) Most of all, thanks to waiter and chef: I mentioned a pet peeve of ours regarding absence of anything for dessert for diabetics (10% of US population, with 30% diabetic or pre-diabetic), and he listened with interest to my 'diatribe' on the failure of restaurateurs to address this, with loss of money to restaurants let alone lack of considering this clientele. AMAZING: he returned a few minutes later and told us that he talked to the kitchen, and they were going to have something special for my wife. A few minutes later, he delivered a wonderful pair of sugar free ice cream cookie-sandwiches with a small side of berries! Even Addison couldn't do that when we visited there recently. One of the very few times I have experienced racism from the servers in the food industry. Very disappointed. We kept moving forward and continued to enjoy our dinner because we weren't going to let these 2 very ignorant men who served us that night make us feel less than assuming we couldn't afford a steak dinner and suggested the "cheaper cut " , and when asked for more ketchup say you already have one . Went to Ponto Lago's tasting night as they ready to open on Thursday. What an amazing experience in every way! The setting is muted and serene, staff was well-trained and knew their menu and wine pairings as well as friendly and attentive (just the right amount). The food and drinks were out of this world. The menu is Latin inspired with a long ceviche menu, and amazing sides like empanadas, charred Caesar salad and lentil ceviche. The entrees are large portions of mainly seafood cooked to perfection. Visually, every dish was stunning. I recommend the Watermelon Agua Fresca cocktail - it comes with smoke. Make your reservations now because I suspect they will be hard to come by soon! read more

Went to Ponto lago this morning for buffet breakfast with two friends. The pastries especially the french one with raspberries was the best pastry i ever had. Enjoyed the made to order omlet, fresh fruit and bacon. Coffee and fresh juice are included. Enjoyed sitting out on patio. The staff were all very friendly. read more

Had one of the best dinners ever here last night. Dining experience was amazing, food was phenomenal, cocktails and wine were delicious, and the service was fantastic. Chris was our server and he was so helpful walking us through the menu, suggesting cocktails, offering wine paring tastings, and giving us an overall great experience. Our friends were staying at this hotel so we joined them for dinner here for Mother's Day. Upon being seated outdoors, I requested that our waiter mask due to our personal family health situation. The manager came out saying "Per the CDC we do not need to require our staff to wear masks" and I responded that this is a personal request because we need to take extra precautions. She told us that she can ask the waiter but he is not obligated to comply. And he didn't. I did not want to ruin our night since our friends were the hotel guests but I do think this could've been handled much more professionally and kindly. We spent $600 here but this is the last time I'll spend my money at a restaurant with such inconsiderate staff. The manager confronted us before even asking her waiter which was very telling itself and then didn't bother to update us... just had her waiter come out as if nothing happened. Disappointing and rude. Not everyone is "over" the pandemic or can afford to be sick. I would expect this at McDonald's but not a 5 star hotel. read more

Huate baja cuisine is how I'd define this highly cultured and very refined menu, although many of the courses we ordered were better than high end restaurants we've visited in Mexico, Argentina and Uruguay. If you're coming for breakfast you cannot go wrong with the Acai Bowl (best my wife and I have tried, and we've tried MANY), Savory Bowl (try subbing the Beef Birria for the smoked salmon), Concha French Toast (French Toast made from Pan Dulce...yes!), or even the Avocado Toast (a little steep after adding a poached egg and smoked salmon, but hey...you're ordering avo-toast right?). Coming for dinner, try the Sea Scallops Crudo, Oyster Tour to start and the Manilla Clams with Scallops (worth the upgrade), Quail (delicate and delicious) or the Catch of the Day (sauce is superb, garlic chips are craveable, and the fish itself [Branzino on our visits] was divine). The Ponto Churros are (dare I say it...) better than Disneyland. The cocktail menu is robust and inspired, and you really can't go wrong asking for bartender's choice. Special commendations to Ted, Willy, Dominic, Marina, and Paola who made us feel like family on each visit. read more
