It appears that they haven't re-opened for dine-in. Only takeout and delivery. Take note that they are closed on Sundays and Mondays. We ordered the Xoriatiki salad, dips (Tzatziki and Melitzanosalata), Saganaki, Xtapodi, pork Tigania, and a Gyro sandwich. The Xoriatiki salad is really simple, but well done. It tastes like it was sliced and diced to order and hasn't been sitting out all day. The dips were both good, but my favorite was the Melitzanosalata. I'm not the biggest fan of eggplant, but I really like this eggplant dip. Can never go wrong with Saganaki (fried cheese) - unless you're lactose intolerant. The Xtapodi (octopus) is the dish we always get at every Greek restaurant. We've definitely had some rubbery Xtapodi in the past, but not here. At Pontos it's very tender and flavorful! The Tigania was a dish we haven't tried at a Greek restaurant before, but it's very good. Try it for yourself! Lastly the gyro sandwich. What can I say.... it's perfect! I don't think I can order from here again without getting a gyro sandwich. P.S. Expect to pay more if you order takeout or delivery from Grub Hub, because the prices for every dish are higher. Pontos is an amazing family owned restaurant and is truly a gem in the area. My family has been dining in for years but during Covid have been taking out frequently and it has been a great to go option. Everything from the salads and dips, to the entrees and affordable wine are the best! The staff is warm and accommodating and truly goes above and beyond, on a recent occurrence when I ordered takeout and my car died shortly thereafter, the owner insisted upon bringing the order to my home out of deliver range himself! I had dinner there last night (Wed). We arrived about 6:30pm and the place was pretty empty. The staff were pleasant and attentive. We started with the Saganaki and they did not flambé it at the table which I have gotten used to over the years at most Greek places. It was still very good cheese. We ordered the Pikilia platter for 2. The food was really good. I think this would be a great dish to order for 4 or 6 so you can have either a few couples out or the team from work. All the meats were great. I was surprised by the "seasoned beef patty" which looked like a naked burger but it was super flavorful. All the other meats were great. Typical with a plate like this we needed more pita to finish it. I was very please with this spot. I just wish we could have some team lunches there. Felt like having some Greek food and ordered takeout from Pontos on a whim. Completely exceeded my expectations! We ordered the souvlaki platter, tigania along with some dolmadas on the side. Food was flavorful and cooked well. When I arrived to pickup the girl behind the counter was really friendly. I just had a really good experience and felt compelled to write this review since that literally never happens normally with takeout. Was in the area on a business trip and a large group of us had dinner here. Everyone loved the food! I got grilled octopus. It was amazing...perfectly grilled and was served over a flavorful olive oil marinade. Got a couple of sides, orzo & giant beans, both were also very tasty. The service was also very good and prompt. With all the positive reviews and posts about Pontos Taverna we decided to have dinner after a movie at the Garden Cinema. Our impression was quite different from all the positive accolades. After a movie expect to wait for a table but ours was well within the 20 minute estimate the young lady mentioned when we left our name with her. Both she and all of the staff were incredibly pleasant throughout the evening, many restaurant should send secret shoppers to Pontos to learn from them. The interior is a cross between a cafeteria and a beer hall. No ambience whatsoever, no music at all, just the loud din of other guests...the ambient noise is deafening. We decided to order a couple of appetizers while we looked through the menu. As I looked for an entrée I saw several marked "MP"...I would like to know the prices, but they were all reasonable when asked. The Tzatziki was very good and offered a bright refreshing start to the meal. The Melitzanosalata included too much garlic, which overpowered the eggplant. I liked the Dolmades, which were mild and not overwhelmed by lemon. I asked our server what she would recommend and with her reply "everything" I ordered the sampler plate, which included a lamb chop, a Beeftkia beef patty, a chicken Souvlaki skewer and gyro meat, served with Tzatziki. My wife ordered one of the specials of the evening, the sautéed Bronzini. The server forewarned us that the fish was served with no sides, but we still had appetizers on the table so it was fine. The sampler was a hefty dish. The basic comment is that everything on this dish was overcooked. The miniature lamb chop was served well done. My two bites indicated that it was perfectly seasoned, but lost all its juiciness from the preparation. The beef patty was crispy on the exterior and firm on the interior. The pillowy interior I was looking for was not present. The chicken was the best of the dish, it still maintained a modicum of juiciness but was more dried out than juicy. The gyro meat was inedible, incinerated and no amount of Tzatziki could bring it to back to life. My wife's fish was very tasty and cooked to the correct doneness but was smothered in oil, eating both filets was not possible. It was obviously a different experience for us than many others. The front of the house was excellent but the kitchen was not up to the hype that others have mentioned. read more

Pontos Taverna is probably my favorite restaurant in Connecticut. They serve authentic Greek food and everything that I have had is delicious. They make this octupus dish which apparently is imported from the Mediterranean and the texture of the octupus is much softer than one would expect but the flavor of the olive oil, garlic, and lemon is out of this world. Their souvlaki is also cooked very tender and juicy and they serve their platters with Orzo, very fresh tomatoes, a few slices of warm pita bread and some of the best tzatziki sauce I've ever had. Their lamb chops are also delicious and grilled very tender without the flavor of the lamb being overpowering. They really know how to grill their meats at Pontos and whlie you're there, make sure you don't miss out on dessert. They have delicious tiramisu, almond cake, and a unique dessert that tastes like the almond cake but takes the form of noodles. It was certainly one of the most interesting desserts I've ever tasted. The service at Pontos are friendly. However, be prepared to wait because the restaurant has always been fairly busy whenever I've gone which is why I know this place is a favorite in Norwalk. Overall, Pontos is one restaurant in Norwalk that is worth trying and spending an extra few bucks at, especially for the market-priced octupus. read more

An absolute must try. Been coming here for years and have never had a bad meal. Authentic Greek-American food made fresh, simply and deliciously. Ask about the history of the restaurant, interesting past as a local Greek Social Club. Service continues to be an A+. Highlights are often the specials, I had a pan fried Branzino with a white pan sauce that was incredible. Branzino served whole - tender and seasoned perfectly with a nice crisp skin. Appetizers are also light and flavorful. I've had a few meals made up of just the appetizers. The Warmed Feta with Tomato and Hot Pepper is always on my list to order, as are the Baked Giant White Beans in Tomato Sauce. Then there are the French Fries - these potatoes are thin, crisp, herby, salty heaven. Extra points if you drizzle some vinegar on top. Gyros and Souvlaki have always been great. I would recommend going for the À la Carte Assortment - comes with a little bit of everything. First time I dined here 'Nona' came out with a cart offering her housemade Baklava - best I've ever had. read more

Absolutely fantastic authentic Greek cuisine in southwest CT. I recently came here with 3 friends on a Sunday evening for dinner. We were seated promptly with no wait. The ambiance is incredible. I felt more "Greek" here than when I went on vacation in Santorini 3 years ago. They have an extensive wine list and a huge menu of Greek dishes. We started with a large Greek salad, which we easily shared between 4 people. The main dishes are separated by meat type. I am a vegetarian so I ordered 3 sides, which turned out to be way too much food! I had french fries, gigantic white beans in a pasta sauce, and pita with tzatziki sauce. They were all fantastic. I honestly cannot speak highly enough of the food. I added pictures of all of our food. The service was prompt and very friendly. My only regret is that we didn't leave enough room for desert, as I very much wanted to try the baklava. I will have to wait for next time, as we will be back for sure. read more

I came in at the tail end of the dinner rush so service started out a little slow. We were seated quickly, followed but menus and waters but no one came back for 5-10 minutes, maybe longer. In their defense, all 25+ tables were full and I think there were only 2 servers and a back waiter/busser. The food more than made up for the sluggish start. I ordered the entree sampler. It was excellent. I'll start from the weakest and make my way to the best part of the dish (I don't remember the Greek names but I'll describe as best I can). I'll start with the chicken kabobs. The flavor was good, a hint of citrus, and they were not dry like kabobs can be. Just because I'm naming them first don't think they were bad. The other items were just better. Next was the gyro. I was a little disappointed to see it was pork. It's usually a beef/lamb mix or just lamb. I'm not sure I've ever seen just pork. Either way the gyro was very good. It went well with the tzatziki sauce and pita. Next up is the lamb chop. When I ordered the sampler I though the chops would for sure be the best item on the plate. The flavor was very good and it was cooked medium rare as it should be. Queue the drum roll...the beef patti was my favorite item in the sampler. Having never been here before I just expected a hamburger. Technically, I guess that's what it was but it was delicious. I'm not good at picking out individual flavors but that thing tasted great. read more

I have to be the one to give two stars for Pontos. Their foods are no question nice and prices are reasonable, ambiance is definitely not there. We had been here too many times and enjoy the dining. Today we walked in and were told to wait for 10-15 minutes but after waiting for over 20 minutes, only see the tables given to people who came in later than us. The excuse was those late coming in people are 4 and we are only 2. I'm confused, their tables are square and all similar size, for 2, 3 or 4 guests. When we asked why they sat people whose names behind ours on the wait list, waiter apologized and explained it's their policy to offer to larger number of guests and if we have problem we can talk to manager?! We are truly disappointed and won't be going back. Many places may offer wonderful food but lack of warm service and right practice can only lose clients' vote decisively. read more

This place is is a family owned restaurant that serves the best Greek food I've had in decades! As a long time vegetarian and sometimes vegan it's not always easy finding great Greek food!!! I've grown tired of the already prepared lettucey Greek salada on offer. Not the case here.. they served up my absolute favorite style which is the no letters big chunky style. Everything we ordered was A#1 fresh and flavorful. I don't get to Norwalk CN often...but I'll be making the trip (about 15 miles) again soon just for this food and the lovely family serving it up. We ordered catering from Pontos for 45 people, and everyone loved the food! Everything was delicious, especially mousaka, tatziki, eggplant appetiser, chicken and pork kebabs. I kept calling to add more food, as more people decided to join our party. And every time I called the management was able to accommodate my requests. Although I love everything on their menu, the fried calamari and Greek salad are two of my favorites. I came to this restaurant with my boyfriend for a date night. From what I could tell they didn't have their own parking lot so we parked at the shopping plaza next door. Not a big deal. The staff was super friendly and the ambiance was romantic and quiet. I really enjoyed the home made bread and different dip options. My greek salad was great, just a little pricey (14.99 with no meat or any extras). I am a vegetarian so I was hoping to see a little more of a selection that I could eat but having the salad was fine. I know greek culture involves a lot of meat so this seemed pretty authentic. My boyfriend tried the frappe which was very tasty. He also had a chicken dish which he said was good. I would come back if I was in the mood for some greek food. Definitely a good choice! read more

Wow! Excellent takeout order tonight for dinner. My husband and I randomly came across this place this afternoon as a potential dinner spot. After reading other reviews, we gave it go! So glad we did. First, granted it was only takeout so I spent 5 minutes or less inside, the service was very friendly, accommodating and welcoming. Extremely clean as well. The food! We ordered the giant white beans, which were light and a great side addition. My husbands meal consisted of a lamb chop, chicken skewer, gyro with a side of orzo and pita. All the meat was perfectly flavored and tender. I had the chicken slouvaki meal which was absolutely delicious. We also ordered the hand cut fries. First time ever eating here. I did not enjoy either plate I ordered. Calamari was so lightly breaded it may as well have been bare. And if it's going to be served without a dipping sauce it really needed to be seasoned better, barely any taste. Prices also seemed a bit high. Truly delicious food at more than affordable prices! We had the Saganaki, Tirokafteri, Dolmades and fries as starters and loved all of them. The spicy cheese appetizer was to die for - if you like spicy food, you have got to try it - I can't wait to go back to try it again. The Gyro platters were humongous and delicious. The atmosphere is great - Greek music playing in the background of a clean, neat and cutely decorated restaurant. Even the Greek beer - light lager called Fix - was great!
