Great authentic Greek food, great service, and reasonable prices - it's a trifecta! We started with the Greek salad and it was heaven on a plate. The fried calamari was okay. I had the gyro platter ,my wife had the chicken souflaki, and my son had the combination platter. We all enjoyed our meals. It is right next door to the Garden Cinema so weekend diners tend to peak about 1.5 hours before show times and they don't take reservations. The only complaint is that it gets a bit loud as there are no acoustic absorbent materials in the restaurant (bare floors and low ceilings.) read more

I've had my fair share of chicken souvlaki, and the dish at Pontos Taverna takes the cake! Instead of the usual overcooked, overseasoned chicken and mass-made tzatziki most diners and Greek joints serve up, this was tender, delicately spiced chicken skewers, served with the most delicious rice I'd ever tasted. I couldn't identify all the flavors in the rice but there was definitely something different about it - it was complex, buttery, light, and VERY good. The tzatziki tasted like it had been made 15 minutes before I picked up my order. I would give the place 5 stars but I haven't been back enough yet to try other dishes off the menu or experience the service. A very good start, however! Looking forward to going back. read more

We came in for lunch. I was warned that the portions were big, maybe I was hungry but I powered through my meal, which was great by the way. I'm not a huge fan of tzatziki sauce so I sometimes struggle with Greek food (wraps and such), so I got the beeftekia platter. The beef was well seasoned, the pita was great, and the tzatziki was on the side (which made for easy mixing with the meat and veggies, as my lunch mates demonstrated). We go here almost every movie night at Garden Cinema and it's right across the parking lot and have never been disappointed. If you're a fan of Greek food, go here immediately! Equally great for couples and large groups, family style ordering is the way to go. Must haves are the Greek salad and the meat platter. The gyro and beeftekia are AMAZING. I haven't had enough Greek food to speak to the authenticity of the food here. But I can tell you the lamb gyro platter I had was outstanding. This place made me realize that I need more Greek food in my life. I love the clean flavors, juicy meats and tasty, tasty pita bread. Plus the service here is great. Our waitress (politely) schooled us on why they don't serve hummus, as it's not really Greek cuisine, and instead suggested some tasty and actually Greek alternatives. This place was magical. Truly, amazing meal from start to finish. We started with the saginaki, and it came out on a flaming plate. The crust of the cheese was golden brown and perfectly salty. I had the octopus and a small greek salad. That octopus is everything that everyone says it is. GET IT. Unreal. Better than any octopus I have had anywhere else. The greek salad was delightful as well with very high quality feta. My husband had the lamb chops and they were fantastic. Perfectly cooked, not gamey at all. The orzo it was served with delightful, full of spices and flavor. The ONLY thing that wasn't as amazing as the rest was the baklava. All nuts, no flake, and very heavy on the nutmeg. Easily my favorite restaurant in Norwalk. First, I didn't know how much I loved Greek wine before I went to Pontos. They have an outstanding wine selection. The food is very affordable, but I feel like it's worth its weight in gold. The grilled octopus is the best I've ever had. One of the best things about Pontos is that it's a family establishment, through and through. The family that runs it makes you feel warm and welcome. I often go with my own family and have food family-style, so everyone gets to try a bunch of delicious things. Don't forget dessert-- they have this amazing almond/honey cake. read more

I'll admit, I'm no Greek food expert, but I feel like I know quality at this stage in the game. Pontos offers damn good food at reasonable prices. My co-workers and I came for lunch and got the Greek-Lemon Soup and Gyros. It was enough to fill us up and we all agreed it was one of the better Greek restaurants we've been to. All the other dishes coming out looked great and when I return I'll be sure to try something new and update my review. Excellent food!!! Highly recommended!!! I've been here a handful of times and I crave their amazing food. Everything is so flavorful and fresh. The Greek salad is a must, as well as the traditional gyro platter. The Tzatziki is so incredibly good, the best I've ever had. When we go everyone shares so we can try all of the different dishes. The food here is 5 stars!! So delicious. We started with the Greek Salad which I LOVED! The ingredients that they used were market fresh and not something you get a Vons. The veggies and feta cheese definitely seemed high quality. I ordered a glass of red pinot. No complaints there. We ordered the chicken slovaki which had great flavor. The marinade that they used on the chicken was yum. I was also pleasantly surprised by the tasty orzo that came with it. I'm usually not a rice person, but that was also delicious. I think what I liked after I finished the meal was that I didn't feel heavy in my stomach. I was happy with the quality of food and ingriedients that were used. The only reason I removed a star is that it was a little on the pricey side. Ambiance- Nice interior. I would just say the surrounding area is kind of strange. Right now they are doing some construction across the street so the area just looks run down. Otherwise, when you are in the restaurant, you can't be bothered. read more

Top notch, as good as Greece, Astoria, etc. Greek food in Norwalk! Family operation, super friendly, prices sort of vary, you can eat very well for about $15, but a single octopus tentacle is $24. I wish they'd have a bit bigger of a menu, as it's really only 3 mains, and specials only appear on the weekends, if at all. All that being said, we are VERY lucky to have a Greek place of this quality in our back yard. I'm giving this a rare 5 star review. read more

Delicious. Affordable. Ample parking. Friendly staff. We think Pontos is great. The atmosphere is unfussy, the portions are plentiful and the quality is consistent. We've eaten there a number of times, but call for pick-up more regularly. You can't beat their Souvlaki platters - Norwalk's best $20 take-out for two! Add a baklava to share and you won't regret it. It's also worth mentioning that Pontos pairs well with Garden Cinemas right next door. Long live dinner and a movie! read more

This place has swiftly earned the distinction of being one of my favorite restaurants ever. No qualifiers - it's just genuinely delicious food, and everything I've had on the menu has been top notch. We've fallen in love with the spicy feta spread, and the eggplant garlic spread (which, pro tip, taste amazing layered on top of one another on a slice of their homemade pita bread). If you're in the mood for wine, I've only tried the Santorini- a semi-dry white with strong citrus flavors- which I strongly recommend. Once in awhile you hit on a restaurant that not only offers excellent food, at a great price but with service that goes beyond. That was our experience at Pontos. Every dish we enjoyed from the Greek country salad to the Souvlaki platters were fresh, authentic and delish. Our server was both patient and kind in answering every question we had, as well as explaining the differences between similar choices. I give a big applause to the manager Tiffany who was one of the best I've seen to handle a delicate situation (when the expectation of the order did not meet visual arrival.) She explained the authenticity of true Greek preparation but wanted to make sure we were happy and offered an alternative. This is not Greek diner or carnival fare. It is quality. Terribly disappointed with service and the food. Friday night, and not very busy! Our waiter took our order, and never returned to ask about our food or to order another beer. The waiter who dropped off the food wasn't thrilled when we asked for new plates after eating our salad. After two visits, my wife and I were hooked. This place is located in a "Twilight Zone" type of area in Norwalk with a movie theater 20 steps away and not a lot of pedestrian traffic. But once inside the food, wine, and service transports you to Greece. The menu includes the usual Greek appetizers and the taramosalata dip and horiatiki salad were our favorites. The wine list is limited but offers a variety of Greek whites and reds, including the always tasty Santorini Assyrtiko white wine. The entrees are traditional fare like paidakia (grilled lamb chops), simply prepared sea bass, and ktapodi (octopus). The restaurant also has one or two specials that are excellent (braised lamb shank with lemon potatoes the last time we went). Yes there are also gyro platters if that interests you but when we go Greek we like to order things we can't get from a street cart. The service here - Greek and Greek American waitstaff - is very friendly and attentive. We got a kick out of how one especially friendly server started talking about an entree we ordered and how he preferred it with rice instead of potatoes when he makes it at home. That attitude makes you want to return. Parking is street parking but we've always found a spot within a few minutes. Also, because of the small size of the kitchen and the popularity of the place, they do sometimes run out of certain menu items - like the octopus. This place intrigues us and we will make it a regular stop. It is to be recommended particularly for a Greek fix or a date night dinner followed perhaps by a movie next door. read more

It's not cheap (or at least their delivery prices are a bit more than their normal dine in prices), but the food is very good and the people who work there are really nice. Happened upon Pontos Taverna on Isaac St in Norwalk today. What a gem! We had the best Greek food we've ever had. We decided to share the sampler - lamb chop, seasoned ground meat patty, souvlaki, and gyro with fabulous tzatziki - one better than the next. The Greek salad was also delicious. As good as the food, was the service. It is so refreshing to have wait staff that genuinely make you feel like a welcome guest. I hope we get a chance to return. read more
