I have used Pony Express Movers twice. I have had extremely positive experiences with them both times. They were even able to get my two couches in (and out) through a second story window due to it being impossible to move them up the stairs due to narrow turns. They are very efficient and careful. They were sure to point out any issues with our furniture BEFORE it was moved so we would be aware that it was not them who scratched it up. The only issue I have with them is that last year when we moved, one of our small tables did not make it into our new apartment. We emailed them and they confirmed that it was in their warehouse but had been damaged in the move. They did fix it and we picked it up from them. It was odd to me that it was missed but it turned out OK in the end. I would definitely recommend their services to anyone moving in the JP/Roslindale/WR/etc. area. read more

I was so desperate for last minute movers since my orignal movers truck broke down and they were able to get to me within and hour; pack me up in 30 minutes; and super patient waiting for me at the storage unit. The customer service was amazing and fast. The movers were very polite, gentle with my things and very fast as well. Best moving experience ever! Glad so many of your reviewers had such a great experience with your Company. I was not so lucky. First group of guys you sent out were very nice but had no clue how to move. I have several pieces of furniture that are scratched badly and a hole in the back of a dresser. I believe I am missing a box with 4 pillows, shredder and VCR. However you wouldn't know that as you don't return phone calls from disgruntled customers. These young men should be trained on how to move as they are willing and quite capable. However they definitely need guidance before they destroy another family's furniture. Second group of guys got the job done but also ruined an end table. The moving truck that came was a rental truck and too small for our contents. No padding to protect the furniture so most pieces are scratched beyond belief. Never ever would I recommend this company. It has been four days since the move and still the owner has not responded to our phone calls. Disgraceful way to run a business. I really hate to write a bad review for anyone and I consider myself to be an understanding, forgiving person, but I cannot in good conscience give this moving company a good review AT ALL. Here's why: My landlords used Pony Express Moving to move from their house (where I was a tenant, and coming along with them) to a different location. They seemed fine, and I was most impressed as they were able to get my Victorian couch up the stairs to a 3rd floor space that was very narrow -- key here was the door was taken off from the space, and the couch was not wrapped. As they were able to get the couch up, I figured they would get the couch down the stairs when I moved a year later. I needed to move my things into a storage space, which they said they had. Two persons came the day of the move: one was very experienced, and the other it was either his first or second day. For the new person, I had to explain constantly how to NOT pick up a vaccuum cleaner, how to carry boxes that were marked FRAGILE, and he just was having a lot of difficulty. Fine, it's a first day, and I know it wasn't an easy location being on the 3rd floor. However, when it came to the couch, it wasn't able to get down. This was because the movers did not listen to my instructions to 1. Take the door down and 2. do not wrap the couch. I don't mind paying for the time needed to get my stuff moved, but there was just no way this was going to happen, even with my helping. Therefore, the LEGS of the couch had to be sawed off, which I was extremely disappointed with. The legs ended up disappearing. I was told I could call the storage space if I needed to get something and just arrange to pick it up. While I didn't think I needed to, I was in need to pick up some extra eyeglasses for a trip. No one wrote me back or called despite several attempts. Then, I finally moved my things this past Friday the 13th (yeah.) The movers who came were very friendly and did a great job, except I noticed that some of my things were missing. The movers went back to the storage space and noted that nothing was in there. Which was awful, because part of those things included pieces of my bedframe. I wrote to Jason and he said he couldn't address this until four days later in an email that wasn't finished. This in itself I find extremely unacceptable that there is only one person in control of a storage space. WORST, on Tuesday, I was about to leave for work when the movers showed up, with my things, but without calling or letting me know in advance. I ended up running not only late for work but late for some meetings I had prepared for. I appreciate the apologies from Jason, but this is just really poor communication on a lot of fronts, and I would never have put a new person on the initial job. I am more upset that I didn't have all my necessary things until four days later, and that I didn't get a call saying anything was coming so I could prepare in advance with my job. Pony Express seems poorly staffed and poorly run at every level, from the packers and movers to customer service and management. We have never seen more unprofessional behavior from a company. We booked Pony Express 4 months in advance with Josh. We made explicitly clear our concern for the condition of our belongings/home(s) and the tight time-frame we were under, and reserved 5 movers and 2 trucks, at Josh's recommendation, to ensure a smooth, quick move. Then the evening before the move, after Pony Express had packed our kitchen/dining room (more on that later), Josh called to persuade us that we only needed 4 movers and 1 truck for the move. We figured he knew what he was talking about and agreed. When the movers showed up the next day and wondered out loud why they didn't have more trucks/crew we began to suspect it was so Pony Express could deploy them elsewhere at our expense. The Pony Express moving crew, pressed for time and for space, was reckless with our items. They failed to disassemble or properly wrap most of the furniture and loaded them onto the truck unprotected, even when we called them out on it. As a result, couches, armchairs, a crib, headboards, and more have new dents/dings/scratches. They also have white streaks presumably from being scraped against doorways' white trim. When the moving crew could not fit all of our furniture into the truck, they left several wooden pieces behind lying sideways on the bare ground without any padding or protection. And it wasn't just the furniture; we had to revisit our old home in the middle of the night to repaint several walls and ceilings they scraped during the move to make it suitable for its impending sale. After Pony Express unloaded the first truckload at the new house, we asked 1 mover to stay and reassemble furniture while the rest of the crew went to pick up the remaining items. Only he couldn't actually reassemble anything because portions of the disassembled furniture were left behind at the old house. Poor planning! And then, despite our offer to drive him the 5 min back to the old house ourselves, he sat idle for 75 minutes. To their credit, the crew foreman did remove an hour's worth of charges from the final bill, but only after we complained and he gave us a lot of attitude about it. But we were willing to overlook most of this until we discovered what we believe to be theft: We believe the Pony Express packers stole 2 liquor bottles and several pieces of china. These were the only items missing from the move. When we brought this up with customer service they pushed back that they must be sitting in a box in our home. The idea of liquor bottles and fragile china ending up in the same box is ridiculous, let alone that they were in 3 different parts of the kitchen, each being handled by a different packer. And even if they were together because packers had poor judgement, we have no more unopened boxes. Nevertheless the only response from Pony Express was "it's impossible that anything was stolen" and "there's nothing we can do." At most, while discussing a settlement we were offered a net credit of $20-some dollars (when $400+ worth was stolen). Then there was the more significant furniture damage (see pictures): - a metal file cabinet with a collapsed top - a children's storage bench with the cubbies smashed but placed back in their sockets to hide the damage - a wooden TV stand frayed at the bottom - bed that left the old house with 4 wheels, but arrived with 3 (and without informing us which led to long gouges in our new wood floor.) - a dining room table whose legs were never removed, leaving huge stress fractures in the wood. Pony Express thankfully did hire a furniture repairman to fix the dining room table and cover up the damaged wooden furniture (the repairman would not fix metal and he deemed the storage cubby bench beyond repair). The table looks fine now but we did not have a dinner table for weeks and his repairs to the various items' dings/dents/scratches were slightly off-color. Pony Express also offered to replace the metal file cabinet and storage bench if we signed a settlement/non-disparagement agreement, but it has taken no responsibility for the actions of its packers nor did it offer compensation for the stolen items. But at this point we would rather publish a review than settle. We decided to try Pony Express because of the positive reviews online and in Boston Magazine. But the move has been anything but positive. It was so negative it has us second guessing the value of those reviews; who knows how many others have signed settlement/non-disparagement agreements? I cannot express enough how miserable our experience with Pony Express has been, and they still have many of our belongings with no idea when they will be delivered. 1. The movers who came to move us from DC to NYC were incredibly nice. However, they only brought two guys. A one bedroom place took four hours to load onto the truck. 2. Once in NYC (it took them 8 hours to show up). They immediately side swiped a car while parking. 3. They unpacked for four hours. Then a NYFD guy came by and said they were not allowed to have a truck that size in our neighborhood and forced them to leave. The guys said they would try and be back the next day. 4. They called the next day and said they could not and would be back on Monday. Once Monday rolled around I called and they told me they were not coming, and would be there on Thursday. 5. I have repeatedly asked to speak with Josh (the owner) both by leaving voicemails and telling two staff to have him call me. He has chosen not to response. That shows what he thinks of his clients. 6. It is now 3:30 on Thursday afternoon (the supposed delivery date) and we have not heard from them. I have called 5-6 times today and no one is answering. Pony has been one of the most unprofessional companies I have ever dealt with. Now our belongings are being held hostage with no way to figure out what happened. I could not be more disappointed with them. I've never experienced a moving company with this low regard for its customers in my life. UPDATE: Within 24 hours of writing this post, I heard from Josh (the owner). The conversation started off with him telling me the plan had always been for our stuff to be delivered on Friday. When I explained two different employees had told me both Monday and Thursday delivery dates, he said that was never the plan. Well how would I know that? Then after I explained that the truck they brought to our neighborhood was too large based on city regulations, the response was "well that was the truck they had." No admission it was their responsibility to know the rules of the cities they work in. The first apology I received was about 6-7 minutes into the conversation. Eventually I was able to get him to tell me their policy of returning some money depending on the total number of days late. The guys finally came Friday and were great (all movers have been really wonderful through this process). As we were unpacking we thought two boxes were missing. I called both the driver and the Pony Express main line to explain we believed there were missing boxes. As of this writing, I have yet to hear from them (this was four days ago). This was my first time hiring professional movers instead of doing it myself/bribing friends with pizza and beer, and I don't think I'm ever going back (sorry hungry and thirsty friends!). I needed to move as quickly and painlessly as possible from a very bad roommate situation and decided movers were my best bet. I priced out a couple companies based on Yelp ratings and decided Pony was the one for me. I sent in my request last Friday, so Nemo did slow the team down a little bit, but Bill got back to me by Monday with questions and quotes. He was really helpful and nice, and I felt confident about hiring his team. This past Saturday, aka Moving Day, rolled around, and Ron and Tom rolled up right on the dot. I explained the difficult roommate situation, and they got right to work getting me out of there. My man and I offered to help, but they were too efficient to really need us. They got my bedroom and some boxes and furniture from the basement packed into their truck in less than an hour. They let me ride along with them, stopped to pick up and load a couch I was buying, and kept me laughing along the way. Then they got to work moving everything into my new apartment. It's up a few flights of stairs, but these super men didn't even stop for a breather! The entire process, from them rolling up to my old apartment to rolling away from my new one, took three hours. About 2 years ago, I was motivated by a moving company to log into Yelp, and write a review about the 7 circles of hell they had just dragged me through. Now, exactly 2 years later, I've again been motivated to log in just to write another moving company review, although for a performance that was about as far toward the opposite end of the scale as you can get. If Pony Express was a girl, I'd make out with her/them in front of my wife - and she'd no doubt applaud and cheer me on. These guys are the best at what they do, and what they do is incredibly helpful. We scheduled Pony Express to move our 1 1/2 bed apartment on the 4th floor in JP, to the ABF U-Pack depot in West Bridgewater, and load our stuff onto one of their freight shipping containers. They arrived at 9:10, and were scheduled for 9am - this may have been a warning sign to some, but consider that they picked up a 3rd guy from where he had parked, rented the truck from Budget, AND had it fully loaded with supplies, which they gave us for free. The fact that they were even at my place before noon astounded me, and says to me that they planned for the travel 7 prep time very well. Josh, Chris and 1 other guy (sorry, I forgot your name, Awesome Guy, but you were way awesome), wasted no time, and got right to work. Literally in between sips of my coffee, Josh had my couch, bookcases and desk fully wrapped up and padded enough to withstand a small-scale nuke. After just about an hour, our entire apartment was loaded up and ready to go - I've never seen a truck loaded as quickly and efficiently in my life. On the other end, Josh and Awesome Guy played Tetris with our belongings for about 1 1/2 hours, before showing us the finished job - through some movers' black voodoo magic, they used every inch to fit our entire apartment into 6' by 9' by 11' space - including a couch, TV, two bookcases, a desk, and about 25-30 large boxes. It basically looked like a flush, airtight wall of our stuff - VOODOO, I say! U-Pack had quoted us for 8' worth of horizontal space in the trailer, so these guys saved us about $300 thanks to their care and attention. And voodoo. So, to sum up, Pony Express will: 1. Arrive on time, despite the odds 2. Move your shit faster than your shit has ever moved 3. Be awesome 4. Save you money that would otherwise go towards other movers who would make you want to stab yourself in the mouth with outrage and frustration. read more

Jumping on the Pony Express bandwagon (horse?). I was initially skeptical because of the slow response time via email but am super glad we stuck with them given how great they were with the actual move. We used them earlier this week for a move from Boston to NYC. Similar to other Yelpers, we were quoted a flat rate, which was awesome, considering we had complicated furniture that took a while to disassemble and re-assemble. Because our landlord was a jerk, we had to move out a day early. Luckily, Pony Express was able to accomodate a two-day move. The move out of Boston was a breeze, and the next day, Fantastic Fred and his helper showed up bright and early at 7 am in NYC and were able to nab parking right outside the building, which is a feat in itself in the Village. Only one thing broke out of our 35 boxes and full apartment of furniture, and Fred glued it back together on the spot and offered to replace it if we were dissatisfied. Really, I couldn't have been happier with these guys. I had to insist that the price of movers was going to be totally worth it for all involved - and it was! They moved us from Braintree to Sharon. It was a full BIG truck of our priceless artifacts, not so heirloom goodwill mirrors, Fabergé eggs, star wars plastic junk and wicked heavy DnD books. Seriously though, they did a fantastic job with some MASSIVE furniture pieces that were covered in case of scratches and they arrived unscathed, perfect. Did I mention this was the middle of a freak heat wave in April? Oh the humidity! Our dudes showed up ready to MOVE. And move they did, all day long. They did not take unwarranted lengthy breaks, we of course had no cold water because it was during that "boil water" scare, but they moved on and on. We took a sandwich break, and it really made me happy that they ate with us. From the start, we were happy we had chosen them because the guys were SO NICE. When your mom is commenting on what nice guys they are, and what hard workers they are, and insisting that we tip them really well, and go buy some COLD water because this is too much to expect - etc etc, you know you've done well. They are Mom approved! Lastly, they are very reasonably priced, and considering how awesome they are I'd say good luck doing better. This is why you're on yelp. I had a great experience with Pony Express. I hired them to move a couch from a friend in Brookline to my apartment in the city. Unlike a lot of other places, they offered a flat-rate fee (vs "we'll charge you by the other and take our sweet time to try to rack up a bill") and were quickly responsive via email. They picked it up at the other end, brought it right to my door (found their way through my apartment building, found the freight elevator, all without me having to do anything - that's actually unusual.) Unfortunately, when they got to my door, we found the couch didn't fit! They went out of their way to try a thousand different ways to get this thing through the door, and eventually succeeded by unscrewing one leg and getting really creative about the angle. I had thought it would be an easy job for them but it ended up being a lot more complicated. They were nothing but polite and helpful and worked hard to find a solution to the problem at hand. This is a tough one... I always try to book the first move of the day, because it's pretty much the only time you can be guaranteed an actual time instead of a window of time. So, I booked the 8AM spot with Pony Express and waited. And waited... At 8AM, they weren't at my apartment. I called the office to see what was going on, but no one answered. So I waited more. Called the office. No one answered. At this point, my fiance and I began to wonder if our move wasn't scheduled properly. A little over 30 minutes later, the office answered my call and said that the movers should have been there a long time ago. The movers arrived shortly after I hung up the phone, but there were only two of them and my quote had been for three. They explained that they were late because the third guy didn't show up. While I was only charged for two movers, I was really disappointed for a few reasons: 1. The movers were 30 minutes late without any kind of courtesy call or apology. 2. I had chosen Pony over Raimond's specifically to have three movers. I don't have any complaints about the move itself, and the movers were nice/quick. Regardless, I REALLY wish I would have used Raidmond's again. While everything arrived safely at my new apartment, I didn't need the extra anxiety of movers being MIA without a good explanation. There may be professional moving companies, but I consider moving my profession. I freaking move like it's my job and I deserve a raise. I seriously have had 6 addresses in less than 4 years. I collect addresses like spyware collects your information. So as I prepared for another move, I wanted to take my adult furniture and my Sony 60" HDTV with me. I decided to hire professionals. I looked at several moving companies, compared Yelp reviews, prices, and even looked into options of renting my own truck + just getting load/unload help. Pony Express not only gave me the best flat rate deal, but also let me be flexible with my schedule. They were able to pick up, pack up everything in my 2 bedroom apartment in West Hartford, CT in about 2-3 hours with 2 guys and deliver the next day to Boston without me lifting much of anything. Isaac came on day 1 and day 2 just to make sure my furniture was put back the same way it was dismantled. Thanks! Bill and Josh both helped me out on saving money and time. Couldn't possibly recommend a company more. Used these guys for a move from Boston to DC about a month ago. My girlfriend and I were nervous about long-distance moving and all of its accompanying stresses, but Pony Express was fantastic throughout the entire process. I first had contact with Bill to coordinate and schedule the move, and found him to be friendly, helpful, never pushy, and very willing to address any concerns we had. We were given a flat-rate estimate, which covered absolutely everything and was very reasonable (we did some shopping around to price out other movers as well). The company stayed 100% true to this estimate the entire time and there were no extra charges. Our actual move was done by Fred, Mike, and a third guy who was there only for the loading up and whose name I never got. All three movers were courteous, thorough, and gentle with our belongings. They showed up right on time the following morning in DC and unloaded everything where we wanted it, carefully unwrapped fragile items, and reassembled furniture. Everything about our experience with Pony Express was positive and most importantly for us: painless and stress-free. I bought a coupon at yelp so i decided to stick with this company for my moving services. i called them yesterday 3 times, no one picked up the phone. the fouth time, the phone was answered by a guy that he said he is new here and every general question i've asked, he said he doesn't know. (i asked them: how much do you charge per hour, if you would consider that as a tricky or difficult quesiton to answer). okay, okay I got it, you're new so you know nothing. Then he took my email address promising me to let me know the information by email, but after a whole day, I heard nothing from them. i also submitted a online inquiry yesterday but still waiting to hear back from them. I tried calling them this morning around 11, right before this review, haha, guess what. still no one answering the call. I'm really dissapointed and does anyone know how to refund a coupon? =====UPDATE====== Finally I heard from someone in the company, after nearly 15days. Josh sent me a message and apologized for the poor service while offering me a future discount to make up for this. Apology accepted but too late I already refunded the coupon and decided to move on my own. I raised my review from 2 stars to 3 because of the fairly long and sincere sorry letter. But still, no clients should be receiving such poor service. I hope you could be more discreet with hiring new staffs next time and give them more customer service training. read more

I just moved from Boston to Hoboken yesterday. Sound stressful? It wasn't! Seriously - Pony Express made it so painfree that I could move back and forth between Boston and Hoboken every day for the next 10 years and it wouldn't feel even remotely inconvenient. First of all - due to some scheduling conflicts I actually had to change my moving date and time twice but Josh was totally cool with it and worked around my conflicts with zero hassle. On the day of the move, Josh showed up with one mover and carefully and delicately put all of my belongings in a cargo van, which saved me tons of money so I didn't have to get a truck. I should note at this point that when I initially made the reservation, Josh actually drove out to my house to look at my stuff to see if it would fit in a cargo van. He wanted to give the most accurate estimate possible. There are no hidden fees. There are no catches. This company is awesome. Josh unloaded all of my stuff from the van into my Hoboken apartment -- where there was no parking, mind you -- and somehow managed to stay chipper and talkative the whole time. I can't say enough nice things about Pony Express. The only way I can really thank them is by posting this review on Yelp in the hopes that lots of people who are moving will see it and utilize their services. You won't find a nicer, calmer, fairer moving company in the Boston area. If I ever have to move back from Hoboken to Boston, I'm going to use them again! read more

It's a pleasure to write a 5-star review for Pony Express. We used these guys for a move from the Boston area to New York City, and we were entirely satisfied with their work. They packed our items with great care, and everything arrived safely, down to the last wine glass and china plate. The owner (Josh) and his crew were pleasant, courteous and professional, and they did the job efficiently and mostly on schedule (delivery was a couple of hours late due to trouble with their truck on the way out of Boston, but they kept us apprised of their progress). This is a rave review and not just a solid "well done" for two reasons: 1) Of the three companies that came to my home to give estimates, Pony Express was the only one able and willing to accommodate my desired schedule of packing up and loading one day and delivering on the next. The other two companies insisted the move would need to be a three day process. 2) Pony Express was seriously cheap. Like, so cheap that I hesitated to hire them (I probably shouldn't say this and mess up a good thing!). Their quote was less than half what the other two companies were asking, and they came in right on target too. Friendly, professional movers who did the job well, on time, on my desired schedule, and for way less money than anyone else--what's not to like??? Don't hesitate to hire Pony Express, whether for a local move or a long distance one like ours! read more

After going through what can only be described as hell on earth and moving 2X on September 1st without the help of movers, it was time to hire someone to do the heavy lifting and not spend 9 hours moving and dealing with the horrors of driving an enormous UHual and even worse the horrors of maneuvering mattresses and sofas up narrow flights of stairs. Pony Express was chosen mainly for their reasonable prices for September 1st moves. Everyone else was bumping up their rates to astronomical prices for the 1st but these guys managed to keep it decent. It was $135/hr for 3 guys and a 24 foot truck. They showed up on time, were extremely polite and friendly, and let us help out (thus saving us money). They packed the truck with rather astounding efficiency and skill as it only took us one trip to move a three bedroom place (with room to spare in the truck). The unloading was just as skillful and timely even though we were on the second floor. They didn't damage a thing, even a large TV I had that didn't have a box anymore. All in all I would highly recommend them as it only took us about 4 hours to do this move that ordinarily would have taken at least double the time. read more

Hands down the best moving experience I ever had. When I contacted Pony Express for my recent move, from the get go I felt like I was dealing with professionals. They responded very quickly to my request and offered me a reasonable and STRAIGHT FORWARD quote based on the basic details of my move- no extra frills, hidden charges, or confusing pricing schemes that are so commonplace with other moving companies. When moving day finally came everything was a complete breeze, the guys were on time, and even gave me a call when they were getting close just to let me know they were almost there. They wrapped up all my furniture/etc including a piano and packed everything safely and efficiently into the truck in no time at all, even helping me pack a few last minute things- these guys really know what they're doing. These guys made moving a pretty low-stress experience. Communication in advance was a little spare, but enough such that I could change my plans (and be accommodated) less than 48 hours in advance of my long-planned, peak-season move. The guys showed up 10 minutes early, sized up the place, and went to work. I've never seen such a neatly packed truck! They took excellent care of my stuff--even the low-rent stuff--and were friendly, good-natured, and professional throughout. Although they weren't super speedy, they were so otherwise great that I'm happy to give them high marks. Also, I had more stuff than I originally told them I would, which probably contributed to a longer move time than I originally expected. I was looking for price comparisons when shopping for movers, so I'll list here that I paid about $550 for this move. We used their moving services late August 2013. Thankfully avoided the 9/1 move date and were able to book these guys for our move. We were moving from a small 1.5 bedroom garden-level apartment to a 2 bedroom 3rd level unit in a house, 2 miles away. That's right - A LOT OF STAIRS. We didn't want to rally up a bunch of poor friends to help us this time and just hired the help and SO glad we did. Booking was easy with email correspondence and confirmation. We had 3 guys start at 8am and finish around 2pm? We didn't have too much stuff but with the stairs and a lunch break, the guys finished later than I was hoping for. They were nice and overall efficient - can't really expect that they'll do all this grunt work with huge smiles on their faces and super quickly but we tried to be helpful and at least keep them hydrated. They did break a Brita jug and said they'd write something up for it but never did. Not the biggest deal, but a slight oversight on their part. Though everyone's different, if you're wanting a ballpark with the info I included, we spent a whopping $900 total (no credit card accepted. I believe it was cash/check only) Would we do it again to save ourselves the trouble and muscle pain? Sure thing. read more

AMAZING!!!!!! They are certainly not the cheapest but they are the best and the honestest I have worked with. There is no crazy charges about pads or moving suppliers. It might be difficult to arrange them if it's at peak season.They arrived on time and we had Jeff, Craig and Kalvin (?) They were wonderful and really efficient. We did our homework by packing all our stuffs in the boxes though. We were so satisfied by their performance; we bought them lunch and tipped them too. I recently hired Pony Express for an interstate move from Newton, MA to the Indianapolis area. Booking the truck - very easy to book and Pony was very accommodating with dates. They picked up one morning, drove the next day, and delivered the following morning. They managed to do all of this using a shared truck, which was great for savings. Their quote was lower than any other competitor and the delivery dates were as good or better from Pony. Pickup - truck arrived on time and the guys took their time to make sure things were properly wrapped and loaded. Very professional. Delivery - they actually arrived early (but called to make sure that was ok), which was great, delivered quickly but carefully. One small item was actually left in the truck, but Pony found it and dropped it in the mail for me. Overall, it was a great experience and I'd definitely hire them again. read more

I've used other moving companies in Boston, but I'm really a big fan of Pony Express. These guys are quick, friendly, and efficient. I had a three man crew: Bill, Ian, and Anthony - each of them alone could do a move on their own. They expertly wrapped and carried everything with ease, it was great! I had one hiccup in that one of the crew members forgot some bolts for putting an item of furniture together, but the crew was so apologetic over it and made it up to me with a discount on the move. We used these guys for a massive and major move with lots and lots of logistical problems... and they managed to handle it all really well, including a move in day during a snowstorm! Today, we had them back to deliver some items from storage and move some pieces around the house. Just an awesome group of guys that were careful in the house, friendly, hard working and thorough. These guys are absolute professionals and extremely efficient. I hired Pony Express for a move from a third floor Boston walk up to 4th floor Manhattan walk up - not an easy task. They made what would have been my worst nightmare seem like a walk in the park. They were professional, friendly, and pleasant every step of the way. They wrapped everything carefully and handled every box and piece of furniture with care, and had extra boxes, tape and wrapping materials on hand. Moving ain't no walk in the park, but hiring the right guys can make it feel like a spring stroll in the Arboretum. If you want that kind of experience--don't even hesitate to get Pony Express on the phone. I rarely write reviews, but these guys impressed me so much that I feel like it is the least I can do. Pros: flat fee per hour, no hidden fees and no bs sales tactics; punctual arrival time; no evidence of fudging the numbers for travel time (which some movers live and die by doing); professional attitude; strong, capable hired-hands; really friendly and down-to-earth people (and I hate using that phrase); expert handling and packing skills. Cons: none I knew I made the right choice when, after Jason and Nick figured a way to get the heaviest washing machine downstairs and in the truck, they didn't even take a split-second break before heading right back upstairs. I was encouraged by the reviews on here and used these guys to move locally. I was thrilled! First of all, their quote was less than half what I got from other local moving companies. They were responsive when I contacted them and really helpful. They dropped off moving supplies in advance for free and I paid for only what I used. On moving day two guys showed up EXACTLY when they said, were quick and courteous and REALLY good at knowing how to organize the truck. They even moved my giant couch out my window, which I never could've done/figured out on my own... These guys were really nice, careful with my stuff, and fast. My stuff arrived at the new place in perfect condition and without too much strain on my wallet. Definitely a refreshing experience compared to other moves and what might've been. These guys are real professionals! I hired them for a move from JP to Somerville during the busiest time of the year. They were friendly, professional, and above all else ON TIME!!!!! That has never happened before when I've hired a moving company. Their front desk manager, Bill, was very helpful and answered all my questions. They gave me a clear estimate, no hidden fees, and the move ended up being less than what they quoted me because they were on time, efficient, and highly skilled at moving. Wow! I cannot express how awesome this moving company was for me. I recently made a long distance move and they not only accommodated me within a week, they were so affordable! I also had some requirements about stopping half way to my destination - dropping off some things and picking up some other things. This required a dedicated truck. Because this was just off the highway and not out of the way, they were more then happy to oblige and didn't even charge extra for it! Josh was really great to work with. He came to my home and assessed what needed to be moved and gave me a quote the very next day - and despite changing a few minor things, the quote never changed! So I wasn't surprised by any "extra fees" that some moving companies have been known to do. The driver, Lou, was absolutely FANTASTIC! He was in constant communication with me throughout the travel days. His crew meticulously wrapped everything - including my flat screen tv. A few days later, moving into my new place was so easy. Lou was so accommodating and again his crew was gentle in handling my stuff. Nothing broke! Would highly recommend them to anyone in the Boston area that is looking to move long or short distance. I heard from Josh, the owner of Pony Express and I'm pleased to say he made things right. We came to an agreement and some of our money was refunded and apologies were made. We decided to try move #4 with them, and I'm quite happy we did. On Sunday, movers Jameson and Shane showed up (after calling to let me know they were on their way) and got to quick work loading the truck from our storage space. They hustled all the way to our destination and into my mom's new apartment. They were also pleasant, funny and made the whole bad experience a distant memory. THIS is the Pony Express I'm used to. Not that this company needs another 5 star review, but they were great. It was $600 for a 5 hour move and I am glad I spent the money. They were helpful and efficient and great at communicating. I first spoke to Bill who gave me a price that I knew was too high for my move and he ended up quoting me one that I felt was reasonable - unusually great customer service for this day and age. The guys who helped us move were quick and brought helpful moving supplies (a wardrobe box to put my hangers/ clothes in). I will definitely use them again and recommend them to friends. read more

Last week I moved from Jamaica Plain to New Orleans with the incredible help of Pony Express Moving Services. These guys were absolutely PHENOMENAL !! TOTALLY AWESOME ! My wife and I are blown away by the professionalism of this company. They hoisted a 7'6" sofa into my 3rd floor apartment built in the 1800's and made squeezing it through doorways look easy. At no point was anyone unsafe and the guys measure twice and cut once so to speak. I'm glad I did a little research before the move and absolutely selected the only guys in town who can do this kind of ridiculously challenging job without damaging the leather couch. A+++++ I think I just hired these guys for one of the toughest jobs they will do this year and they handled it like champs and didn't quit even when it seemed impossible. If I could give Pony Express 10 stars, I would. I was moving yesterday (June 1), probably one of the busiest moving days of the year in Boston and my movers were supposed to come between 10-11 but had a longer window in our contract from 7-12. I checked in with them all morning and around 11:30 they told me that they would be at least another 3 hours at their morning job. The girl moving into my apartment was showing up with Pony Express at 1pm with all of her belongings, so I was in a tough position.. Pony Express saved the day! They came and moved all of my boxes, couch, dressers, and reassembled everything at my new apartment and then continued with the scheduled move for the new tenant. They handled my belongings with care while also moving quickly to get both jobs done in an impressive amount of time. The team was personable, funny, accomodating and trustworthy. They could have easily charged me whatever they wanted because of the position that I was in, but they treated it as if I had scheduled the move months ago and proceeded with the standard hourly rate and insurance. I will never do another move without the help of Pony Express. -Thank you so much for your help guys.
