I see why they call this place Pookie Crack Cakes. One bite and you're hooked. I read the reviews to get here early and stand in line for your ticket. I was off work one Friday and decided to drive out South to experience the famous Pookies Cakes. I was happy to get there early and find a park right in front of the store. I waited a few minutes before the time and got in line. Thank Goodness. I looked back and the line was starting to get long. The doors were open and a guy came out and started handing out numbers. I was the lucky 6th person in line to get a ticket. Once you get a ticket we all headed back to our vehicles until the doors of the bakery offically opened. Let me just say the wait was worth it. I bought the red velvet, butter pecan and caramel cake. Price with tax was $13.00 for each cake. All 3 cakes were moist and made with homemade love. I will definitely be back to try out more flavors. Pookie's Crack Cake owns up to their name. 10 Out Of 10 across the board.

Cold and rainy outside. I grabbed every piece of clothing from my car as to layer up in preparation for standing in line. Didn't find an umbrella though. Lol. Seemed to take forever. Had no idea that once inside the small space, there is another line. They are pretty organized so there is a good flow. Smells really nice inside and there are juice samples to try. The vibe was really upbeat and there was good energy from everyone. Some customers were talking about their plans for the new year, while others were describing cakes they have already tried. I purchased four crack cakes; caramel, red velvet, peach cobbler and praline butter pecan. At the time of this review, I have tried the peach cobbler and the praline butter pecan. They are both a delicious treat. Can't wait to try the other two. The owner was very nice and engaging. He was kind enough to bring as many of us as he could in from the rain. The store will be closed for the entire month of January as the owners will be taking a much needed break. I can't wait to see them again in February and I hope you will join me.

Lives up to the hype! We were driving down 47th Street and I noticed there wasn't a line so I asked my fiancé could we stop in. We've wanted to try these cakes for a while now. By 12:45 they were almost sold out, they open at 11. I got the butter-pecan praline cake. It may be hard to tell in pictures but the cake is about 3" wide and 8" long. It was moist, the praline topping was gooey and delicious. As heavy as the topping is, it doesn't make the cake soggy. It was worth the calories. We also ordered the lemonades which were refreshing. The owner and his brother worked the counter. They explained the history behind the cakes to two older women who asked about the name. They were out of the Oreo cake so we have to go back to try it.

I loved the variety I was able to try and the amount is great to share even if you only get one.

Absolutely Incredible Cakes! One taste and you know why they're called Crack Cakes. I have bought cupcakes, sliced cake, cake in a cup and $5 donuts, but nothing compares to Pookie Crack Cakes, and it doesn't matter which one you choose. The flavor smacks you first, then the moisture, texture and icing combine to create a blast of bliss in your mouth. And, you don't have to refrigerate these bad boys! If they last long enough, just wrap them in tin foil and leave them on the counter. Still moist and even more delicious. The best cake I've ever tasted and a heck of a selection, if you get there before the sell out. I see lines out front all the time. I got there and had so much fun ordering and talking to cu I forget the gentleman's name who helped me.

Ok so as far as my weekday visit (I can only imagine the weekend), it was an "experience." Numbers are given out prior to opening at 11am. After receiving your number, you then get in line before 11 in order of the number received. I arrived at 9:30am. I received my number at 10am. Once I made it in, I received free shots of Lemonade that they have for sale. I tried The Berry Hibiscus and it was good. As for the cakes, The Strawberry Lemonade one (the icing) was soooo sweet. Eh.....The Pineapple Paradise (a popular one) was alright. I think the reviews from folks saying how moist the cakes are is because of the juice the cakes sit in. Nothing made me wanna "slap" someone for being THAT good. I'm glad the business is booming and that I checked it off my list. I say try them at least once for yourself. Good luck! I don't have to go back.

I was looking for new bakeries online to try and purchase some cake/treats for myself for my birthday and found Pookie Crack Cakes on TikTok. It's my first time here, and yes, the cakes are worth it!!!! They are fresh and delicious. Came from the far south east side, about 1045am on a Sunday, and was able to get a number to line back up when they open at 11am to go in groups of about 10-15 people at a time to order, when I got to order, they were already selling out of certain flavors and it was only about 1135am. *(They have outlined the process of handing out numbers and other details on their social media, which is very helpful to know before you decide to visit the shop!) Would highly recommend going early in the AM and or during the days opened during the week. Thank you, Pookie Crack Cakes

Really good customer service! I was able to come after the line line (line line means the really long line) it was just a small line when I got in around 12ish! I was the fourth person in line. Great customer service by everyone. I purchased the Key Lime and Pecan praline. Both were delicious. The Key Lime was my favorite though! The icing was tart, thick and sweet! Really delicious!! You can tell that real key like juice was used! The Pecan Praline was also delicious and it had a nice amount of pecans! Each cake is $13 a piece. Really delicious check them out!!

I ain't going to lie, when I heard there was a bakery called Pookie Crack Cakes I laughed. My wife wanted to try this bakery as well, because of the Instagram postings she was always coming across. Well we came, we shall, and we conjured. We purchased 5 cakes, and every cake was super moist. My favorite was the Pecan praline, and then the strawberry lemonade. My wife enjoyed the red velvet the most. The one cake that was just too sweet for my liking, was the pineapple cake. Oh I can't forget to mention, the owner and her staff are amazingly nice people.

Pookie's has been a viral sensation for a while, so when I got a day off, I decided to go try my hand at snagging one of these confectionery delights. Right now they have a system where you line up outside to get a number around 10 AM. Then when the store open at 11, you order in groups as not to overpack the store. I hope that one day they're able to find another system. That's really the only knock I have on them. Once inside the staff is super attentive. It's a small space that gets filled pretty quickly. A true carry out spot as there aren't tables to sit, you order, get the goods and go enjoy in the comforts of your choosing. They provide top notch customer service to everyone that steps through the door. I decided to get a variety of cakes so I could find out which were worth coming back for. In our household the butter pecan and caramel cake didnt last but a day and a half. I was a fan of the strawberry lemonade cake. They're close for all of January, but if you're in the Bronzeville area when they open back up, definitely check them out.

Wait time was about 20 min

Stars of the show for me were the Arnold Palmer drink which is easy to mess up but this place get it's right & the strawberry lemonade cake. Yes the cakes are expensive but they're kind of big. I'm not sure the product is worthy of the "crack" moniker but it's still a good cake. Be forewarned that most of the goodness resides in the frosting. Also be aware it's a ton of sugar like you'll damn near be diabetic afterwards. Don't feel stupid in you can't get them open & they're stapled shut. Also be careful because the container for the peach cobbler can get quite messy.

Amazing cakes. We don't even cook desserts anymore . Family members sometimes just get together and eat desserts.

When are you going to get a phone number and a way to place an online order? I will not go to your business and stand in line to place an order!

If u don't get in line you won't be getting any cake. They don't ship and they aren't with any delivery service.

Do they ship?

They do not ship.

What time is best to get in line?

It seems that there are longer lines when they open and on the weekends. I went on a Thursday afternoon and there was no line.

I initially bought this to participate in a VYE. But due to my own procrastination, I didn't get the kit in time. So I didn't use the kit during the VYE. No worries... I saved it for a weekend activity. The kit was packed with care. It included sugar cookies in holiday shapes, various Royal icing (white, green, and red), toothpicks, holiday sprinkles, and M&Ms. The icing and cookies were a good consistency. No runny icing. No hard cookies. Chef Blaque is a nationwide award winning baker and sugar artist. He won the Season 1 of Sugar Rush in 2018. He definitely has mad crazy good baking and decorating skills. He was raised on the Southside of Chicago and is the owner of Black Rose Pastries, an online bakery. The bakery serves the Chicago, Illinois, area AND they sell kits online. Some kits can be shipped nationwide. If you're interested check out his IG and website. @blackrosepastries @chefblaque

I wish I could give him a hundred stars! I provided little direction, other than a general theme, her name and age, and a couple of drawings. He clearly put so much time and attention into the details, and the photos don't do it justice. He even was able to incorporate drawings that my niece had done into the detail work. It was not an inexpensive cake, but the cost was super-reasonable for the work involved. And very responsive. He also delivered, which was a huge benefit! I can't wait for the next birthday to see what else he can create!
