    Crab CAKE, ONE, crab/lobster
    Cynthia C.

Sadly the only saving graces for Soleil are the service, location and the 1000 Open Table Bonus Points, um yeah, I just checked, the points are 'pending', pending what?!? A good review? Sorry I cannot tell a lie about mediocre food. Soleil is probably used as a marketing tool for the Westin or rather, a sit down version of their room service. Yes, it's pretty bad: -Caesar salad, absolutely NO flavor. -Lobster/crab cakeS, don't advertise CAKES, when there is only ONE, not bad, the best thing of the night. -Duck confit, overcooked and WAY too many beans, but not horrible. -Soleil tasting was pretty horrendous, it was worst than last week's left overs at Aunt Edna's. The filet was dry, medium, when RARE was requested, also it was drenched in sauce that was reminiscent of something one could purchase at a discount store, the ahi was GRAY in color, the lamb chop was very fatty and the lobster pot pie was laughable. Freebies: bread, not very good, not crusty or crunchy, the olive oil and balsalmic had a mound of buttered minced garlic-yum. Odd and a bit scary: the brunch stainless steel warmers were still sitting on the dining floor. Parking: Soleil validates, make sure you get this or you'll be even more pissed that you had an wretched overpriced meal AND had to pay for parking.

Restaurant Soleil is on the second floor of the Westin Palo Alto. I have been here several times before and liked the ambience. It is a good place to meet a friend or have a small gathering. The Sunday brunch was excellent and I liked the lamb chops on the menu. The closest to a disappointment I had was perhaps the butterflied grilled chicken which was dry.

************** 1687 ************* We stayed at the Westin Palo Alto for a StayCation, we came here for brunch. Love the open kitchen, breakfast buffet hot and cold are served. You got bacon, sausage, omelette, salmon, cheese, snacks, and everything else. Good service, cute place, and good service. We will definitely return here next time we stay at the Westin again.

I am absolutely blown away by the Sunday brunch buffet at Restaurant Soleil. Around a year ago, I tried out the buffet and had a lackluster experience, but since, Restaurant Soleil has upgraded their buffet to include a raw seafood bar and a choice of an entrée a la carte--and the buffet experience is beyond amazing. Its $40/person price is a great deal, given the bottomless champagne or mimosas, the entrée, and the wide variety of food selections from the raw seafood bar, appetizers, baked goods, and desserts. The seafood at the raw bar is high-quality; I enjoyed the sweet oysters coupled with mini lemon wedges. My parents were especially enthusiastic towards the flavorful king crab legs. I also savored the creamy, indulgent foie gras and the fresh deviled eggs topped with ham. For the entrées, I was pleasantly surprised by the vibrant plating and the taste of the dishes (I've tried a couple on different occasions). The NY steak & eggs features a juicy steak with the crispiest purple and brown potatoes I've ever tried--highly addicting. The catch-of-the-day risotto had a tenderly grilled salmon and a velvety risotto with peas and ham, finished with a healthy heap of arugula. The Kobe steak burger was dripping with juice and topped with fresh avocado. For dessert, today's tiramisu was perfection--I loved how the cake was soaked with liquor and was not sweet. The chocolate fondue fountain is always a delight to play with as well. There are also an assortment of adorable, mini macarons of different flavors. I have had a delightful time at Restaurant Soleil and will be back again soon!

Four of us went to Soleil in the Westin Palo Alto before going to the DCI West Championships in July. Westin PA is a fairly nice hotel and Soleil looks fits right in with the decor and ambiance. Soleil serves Mediterranean cuisine. The French Onion soup was very good. The four of us had seafood pasta, paella, duck, and sea bass. They were all very good. The seafood pasta was excellent; not too strong in flavors and the wide-noodle pasta cooked well. The paella wasn't as good as what you'd get at some Spanish tapa places in the city. We had a discount to get 50% off the meal which was totally gravy, but in all honestly I'd come here paying full price for the meal. The service and surroundings are great and the food is good. The menu isn't very big what but what have, they do very well.

The family went for Father's Day brunch and it was great! Definitely added to my list of brunch spots now. Turns out, they have Champagne Brunch every Sunday. $32.95 for adults, $22.95 for seniors and free for kids under 3. Although the restaurant itself is small, it's intimate and has a great selection of food. They have a cold food bar, hot food bar, carving station, omelet station, and plenty of desserts, including a chocolate fountain! I got full really fast, but if I could, I wanted to eat EVERYTHING!

We ended up coming here because a group of us wanted to celebrate graduation, but since we were booking so late, all the better restaurants were already reserved. The service was good enough for our group, and they were able to accommodate us, but the menu was very uninspired and the food was just not very good. Is that about normal for a hotel restaurant? I tried: -Dungeness Crab Salad: Not much of a salad. It was like a Tuna Tartare with crab instead of tuna.... was okay... -Lamb Chops: Swimming in sauce. The sauce wasn't blissful, and the lamb chops themselves were pretty boring. I guess this is what happens to lamb chops that aren't seasoned to great taste. I usually only see lamb chops at fantastic restaurants, so they come out tasting fantastic. (These weren't fantastic). -Pork Chop: Dry & Tough. The sauce tasted like a fruity barbecue sauce. Thus, not a good pork chop. The yucca fries that come with it were nice at least. -Grand Sequoia Dessert: 'Twas a mousse with orange flavor in a chocolate ring. Not the fluffiest mousse I've had, but was probably still the best dish of the night. _________ Conclusion:Convenient for hotel guests, but I would not recommend it otherwise. Expensive prices for bland and uninspired fare, cooked to unimpressive levels.

After spending a few days in Vegas I came back home and was on a desperate search for something similar to Vegas buffets. This, my friends, is not. Reading the reviews for this place and also seeing there was only ONE picture of the brunch buffet made me curious. I had to try it, and also take pictures of everything and share with the world. It was torture for me to not have pictures to view! Alas, I now have pictures for you, my fellow yelpers! Here is what I scouted at the Sunday brunch buffet: Pancakes, waffles, omelets, eggs made to order Carving station (prime rib and turkey breast the day I came) Pasta, roasted breakfast potatoes, roasted vegetables, bacon (not crispy,) breakfast sausages Lox, the toppings, and bagels Assortment of breakfast pastries Eggs benedict Crackers, breads, cheeses, cold meats Assortment of tossed salads Cold seafood platter Some vegetarian sushi roll Dessert table with macaroons, tiramisu, pastries, bite-sized desserts, chocolate fondue with marshmallows, strawberries, and cigar cookies to dip I must comment that the pancakes were quite interesting. They were flatter, more pale and chewier than what I am used to, but still tasty. I liked them (: I ate 9 or 11 of them eehheeh. Decent brunch buffet with a lot of variety, but probably not worth the $42 per person bill. I suggest you save your $42 and spend it gorging at a deserving Vegas buffet instead.

More like a 3.5. I decided to stay in one night and eat at the restaurant inside the hotel. It was very convenient and I really enjoyed the atmosphere. There weren't many diners there. Everyone was super nice and attentive. I had the ahi tuna tartare. First bite of it with the seaweed was that it was great! As I ate more of it, it became too sweet for me. I recommend sharing it as an appetizer. For my main entree, I decided to go light with a black truffle with lobster mac'n cheese. Sounds very decadent. I like black truffle oil and shavings of it but the pieces of black truffle here were tough. The Mac'n Cheese was a bit bland and I had to season it with salt'n pepper several times. I was a bit surprise by the amount of lobster on the mac'n cheese. It was quite a lot. As others have mentioned, expect to pay more since it is in the hotel.

So refreshing! I let my friend order for all of us. It was truly a fun, adventurous experience going through all these dishes. Yes, it's pricey, but you are getting what you pay for. I have a severe tree nut allergy. Before ordering, I informed our server of my allergy and asked him to identify every dish that contained nuts so I could safely participate in our family-style business dinner. He assured me he would take care of it and specifically pointed out one dish that contained hazelnuts. Later, a golden beet dish was served to the table with no mention that it contained cashews. After taking a few bites, my tongue immediately began tingling. When I asked if the dish contained nuts, our server had to go back to the kitchen to check. He returned and explained that the dish did, in fact, contain cashews and that he didn't know they had recently been added to the recipe. This is exactly the type of mistake allergy protocols are supposed to prevent. Even after it was confirmed that the dish had triggered an allergic reaction, the plate remained on our table until I specifically asked for it to be removed. At the time, I was over six months PREGNANT and traveling alone for work. I had to take Benadryl, leave my business dinner early, miss the remainder of the evening with my colleagues, and spent much of the night vomiting, experiencing gastrointestinal distress, and recovering before a full day of meetings the next morning. I recognize that ingredient changes happen. What is unacceptable is failing to communicate those changes to the staff responsible for protecting guests with serious allergies. The next day, I immediately sent a detailed email to the restaurant's management and owner explaining what happened and asking what changes they planned to make to prevent this from happening to someone else. I never received a response even 2 months later. To make matters worse, I later learned they only removed the charge for the single dish that caused the allergic reaction, despite the significant impact the incident had on my evening, as well as my colleagues, and the obvious seriousness of the situation. I'm incredibly fortunate that my reaction did not progress to anaphylaxis. Another guest may not be so lucky. If you or someone you're dining with has a serious food allergy, I would think very carefully before eating here. A restaurant can make mistakes, but how it responds afterward (or shall I say lack of response) says just as much about its commitment to guest safety; and in my experience, that response was deeply disappointing.

We were running late and called the restaurant to inform them we were reaching by 9:15pm Exactly at 9:15 pm we get a rude call from the host asking us to confirm the EXACT time(to which we said we were right around the corner and would be there in 2min) and that the goat empanadas we specifically requested for may be gone in the next two minutes and that the restaurant shuts at 10pm and we would have to stop dining by then. Which was strange because what about the 9:45 pm reservations? You kick those people out in 15 min? Anyway there is NO acknowledgement of my husband's birthday the whole night, no free dessert not even a candle on the dessert. The server is in a hurry to take away our plates while we are working on them. The server was also not warm. By far, the WORST experience at this high end restaurant we have experienced. I'm not sure if the management and staff have changed but this is not how disappointing I expected my husband's birthday to be. If you do not want to serve customers late in the night maybe don't take reservations past 8:30pm? I understand staff wants to go home but it is their responsibility to take care of their customers and honor late reservations just the way they honor any other reservations. I highly doubt we will be coming back.

We made a…read morereservation for 5:30pm on Saturday but walked in at 4pm already hungry, hoping they could seat us early. The hostess did, and we were pleased to see more options on their summer menu since the first time we tried RH Rooftop Restaurant previously was in the winter. My mom ordered the Peach Bellini, I ordered the Pomme Royal (non-alcoholic). In my opinion this menu does have a little something for everyone, even if you're looking for something more casual or budget-friendly. They have a gorgeous selection of salads - super hydrated and happy vegetables, beautiful presentation, very refreshing - plus familiar favorites like burgers and sandwiches - all the way to your lobster and overpriced oysters. We ended up sharing the Steak Frites (medium rare), the Lobster Roll (added caviar), as well as the Blue Fin Toro Carpaccio. The steak frites really impressed me and I could see why people all around us were ordering french fries alone - they're top tier and you can tell they're fresh cut potatoes vs. frozen. Steak was perfectly seasoned and the lump crab on top was also fresh, vs. canned. I wish there was more. Lobster roll was divine, although on the smaller side, and next time we probably won't add the caviar. The caviar alone added an extra $40 to a $36 sandwich so... yeah. The carpaccio is mouthwateringly thin and served with a lighter dusting of caviar - we wanted to order another one and flagged our server down for a second order, but it never came. Like other reviewers have mentioned, service can be slow and disjointed. We were served by 3-4 different faces and although I didn't mind that, I could see how things were lost in translation. Our cloth napkins also smelled gross (when you leave them in the washer too long) which was a huge turn-off so we asked for paper napkins to wipe our mouths. Other than that, it's a real treat to watch the sunset from the outdoor patio if you're around in time with the fireplaces turned on.

Parking was easy and we were immediately sat. The sausage appetizer was very delicious. I was not a big fan of their pretzel. My partner and I got the Jager Schnitzel and Kraut Rouladen. Both were large portions and tasted delicious. Kraut Rouladen was essentially a meatball wrapped in cabbage. Depending on your preference, you might wish there was a little more sauce. Either way, a great restaurant to try out in the Palo Alto area.

No onions. No nutmeg. Germans love onions, so it should have been loaded with onions and garlic. Germans also love nutmeg in cream-based dishes, but this was devoid of herbs, spices and flavor. The mushrooms were not pre-roasted, which would have given more flavor too. It was painfully bland. Spätzle was also swimming in a similar, basic cream sauce of cream, butter, salt, and flour. The plain sauce on the noodles reinforces the plain oily mushroom sauce and it becomes heavy, oily, cloying, and overwhelmingly bland. There is enough salt in both dishes, just not enough flavor from herbs, spices, onions, and garlic. Also had the Apfel Strüdel; it was ok, edges were burnt, but acceptable with the provided vanilla sauce and whipped cream. Both the whipped cream and vanilla sauce had visible vanilla bean seeds. So they know how to flavor the sweet sauces, just not the savory. Ordered to go and the best part was the hot food containers; fully sealed and contained all the liquid while also keeping the food very hot! Not all places have considered matching their dishes and to go containers; Naschmarkt clearly has. I really wanted to love to Naschmarkt, but their food is far too bland. From what I see in the pictures, it wasn't just an off-night, that's is how they make their dishes regularly. As a German from Germany, that makes me sad because it could and should be much better.

Because of timing for other errands we came at 10:30 am and they were open on time and ready. Sitting outside or inside is amazing, outside you get the crowd and the sun. Inside you get amazing interior design. My overall feedback is this is one of the rare "fancy" Mexican places that justify the price and justification. Everything is above average in taste and execution. Brunch Tacos mole: chicken mole poblano, scrambled eggs, huitlacoche, tortillas, epazote crema, fried shallots & avocado. Perfect portioning and the salad that came with it had a fantastic dressing. I pulled some chicken out and gave it to my wife and then it was perfect, a bit too overstuff before. The mole and overall taste were quite good though. Chilaquiles: tortilla chips sautéed in chile de árbol-guajillo salsa, topped with queso fresco, cilantro crema, and an egg. My wife loved this so much it made her question every time she didn't order it before. Fried egg sandwich: two over easy eggs on house baked brioche bun, chipotle aioli, avocado, bacon, cheddar cheese, fried shallot. Kids loved this and happily ate the leftover after. Iced Mexican Cafe: delicious iced coffee with a distinct Mexican taste. Distrito Verde: mezcal, basil, lemon, and falernum. Simple but refreshing brunch cocktail, really paired well with the mole tacos. Chips and salsa: These are not free but worth the price. Both the chips and the 2 salsa are of extremely good quality and preparation. Abnormally tasty and the kids went crazy eating it.
