Great sushi spot in Durango! Get a reservation because it gets busy. Happy hour has some smokin deals on drinks and sushi. Dinner menu has great variety including sushi, ramen, and more. The sushi is really solid - best I've had in Durango. The orange chicken wings are also really great. Highly recommend the blue fin tuna if they have it in stock! Service was exceptional and the tables were quiet and comfortable. We will be back for sure! read more

I love this place! But why do I have to watch tennis? 2 or maybe 3 large screens. The bartender tried to help but the app just had about 6 other sport options. This is insulting to every single person! The awesome chefs, customers.....a beautiful space gorgeous sushi with lame TV screens everywhere, what the....? Come on, Durango! So happy about all the new curbs and infrastructure whatnot but the food desert continues. Sad. Does anyone care? I'm hungry. read more

Had a bad experience there last night. It's been good before. They were very busy and the service was very exceptionally slow. Our appetizer was gone and our drinks were empty by the time we ordered entrees. We got it boxed up to go. Sorry Roxy, but you were just too busy! I took my family here. Some don't like raw fish but there were plenty of options. They raved about the cooked whitefish and the beef and rice bowl. The edamame with garlic was a hit. My mother does not drink gin but she loved the gin daisy. We had some appetizers that were on the specials but even the non sushi peeps had a bit of raw fish on the appetizer which was a fried rice cake with some salmon on top. Lived in Durango 30 years so have been to a lot of restaurants here. I generally don't leave reviews but this was necessary. We decided to try Pop Sushi for a birthday dinner with relatives in town. It was very disappointing. -did not see our server for 20 minutes after sitting down and drinks took another 15 minutes -appetizer roll was highlight -after ordering dinner and waiting about 30 minutes with no sight of our server he server arrived and asked if we needed anything else. We said, no, a bit confused. Then he dropped the bill on our table and said thanks for coming in. After explaining that we were yet to get our actual meals he said, oh, they are coming right up! He scrambled back to the kitchen. -20 minutes later he returned and said it's coming out. -10 minutes later 2 of 6 meals arrived. -10 minutes later one more -10 minutes later the other 3 -(guessing he actually didn't put order in?) -The food? Ramen bowl was ok. The meat was very subpar. Pork belly all fat and almost inedible. Maybe coked in a rush? Alternatively the pork loin was a disc of jerky like meat that could not really be chewed, mostly just torn. -Ribs, so overwhelming salty and overcooked we struggled to eat them. -Server offered a special rice bowl for the night which we got 2 of. The rice was extremely dry and my dad actually poured some beer onto it to make it palatable. My son could not eat it. -Never really an apology about the bill issue or an offer to make it right. I won't mention competing Asian restaurant in town but I'd recommend all of them above Pop Sushi. We will not risk going back. read more

So I initially only wanted 1 appetizer with a bowl of ramen. I was speaking out loud about things I wanted and apparently the lady thought that was my entire order. No big deal, the prices were reasonable which is why I didn't catch my attention. But the food was very tasty and I'm glad that the mistake happened. The place was absolutely packed, as with most of Durango that weekend. All the food was well-cooked and delicious, the only thing I would have improved upon was cooking the noodles a little bit longer. Steamed buns with pork belly was my favorite appetizer. Takoyaki and egg rolls are also delicious. If I was in the area craving Japanese food I would think about coming here again. read more

Pop Sushi was an amazing find. We are in Durango for a few nights and were in the mood for sushi. There were not many highly rated places in Yelp. We decided to give Pop Sushi a try, and we were not disappointed. We had Calamari, shrimp tempura rolls, unagi rolls, California rolls and seaweed salad. All of the rolls were fantastic and the calamari was one of the best we've ever had. Perfect tenderness! And seaweed salad is usually pretty standard in sushi restaurants, but they definitely kicked it up a notch with their presentation and addition of delicious garnishes. This used to be one of our favorite restaurants. Tonight it was pretty sad. It took over 30 minutes to bring us our appetizer- 4 pieces of tuna nigiri. The tuna was awful. Color was off and tasted fishy. We probably should have left at that point. We ordered 3 rolls. 2 were edible, but very mushy. The Pop Spider roll was cold and disgusting. I rarely leave a bad review, but something is going very wrong at Pop Sushi. I hope this was just a once off. The food was definitely one star but the cocktails were very good. read more

Great Food and Horrible service. Our server had at least two shots during our meal. The entire staff did a round of shots at the bar while we waited for missing meals and drinks. He was our server last time and it was the same experience. This time he forgot half of our drink order. Then he forgot an appetizer. Then half of our entrees came out. By the time these were finished the rest of the entrees arrived but not the appetizer. He then forgot another drink order. When we had the check presented and had been waiting for a while to pay he stood at the bar staring around hanging out not sure what to do with himself. You would think a large party on a quiet Sat night would be a priority. But apparently we were there for his benefit and not ours. They told us their printer was down as if we should be more understanding. Lots of excuses and a long night. read more

Very good selection of sushi, friendly and fast service. My wife and I went to Pop on a Saturday night pretty early, around 6:30 or so. They said there was an hour wait but the hostess got us a seat at the bar in less than 30 minutes. We tried a variety of items. Started with seaweed salad and miso soup. The salad was good though it came with other items (shredded cucumber and some other veggies) and the quantity of seaweed was on the small side. Then we get hand rolls - spicy salmon for my wife, spicy tuna for me. They were good, could have been a little less rice for me but I enjoyed it. Then we got a couple of rolls - fried asparagus and another whose name escapes me but had hamachi. Both were very good. We finished with individual nigiri - salmon, unagi and chef's choice, which was sea bass. All were very good. The service was great throughout. Water glasses were always filled. Food came out at a good pace. Our bill was $100, which included drinks, which was pretty much what we always end up spending at a sushi restaurant. We really enjoyed the meal and definitely will return. read more

Our visit was great! We got in just before it got busy, the service was excellent and the food was even better. We had a variety of rolls, the Philly and asparagus were very good and the Fiji and lime twist were spectacular. Since we were celebrating a birthday we also got the cheesecake which was also great. We always loved pop sushi but this was an excellent excellent experience. We got the dynamite muscles which I highly recommend we also got a funky monkey in a lime twist roll as well as me so soup. All of it was superb food and I highly recommend it. They do take reservations but it's recommended that you just walk in you have a better chance of getting a table. Great wait staff!! read more

The service here is top notch. The place was packed and our server Tai, was very quick, yet somehow mellow. He knew the menu, which I like. My husband ordered the Shrimp Tempura roll, it was good. The Pop Sake, a salmon sashimi with roe and chili was excellent quality, with five good sized pieces. The house salad had a wonderful ginger soy dressing with a nice variety of veggies and romaine. My daughter ordered the Shoyu Ramen with pork loin. The pork was really tender, flavorful and plentiful. The broth was pretty bland as and the noodles felt like they weren't fresh. It was disappointing, honestly. My dish the Bangkok Noodles were splendid. The broth was rich but not heavy, with a bit of fat floating on top. The cabbage was so tender and there was plenty of beef. The rice noodles were so good. It was like Pho, only better and tastier. This is a reason to head to Pop Sushi which is about a 10 minute drive from Main Avenue in a Strip type mall. The restaurant was nicely decorated, but with the low temps and the front door opening constantly, it was cool inside. A warm sweater in winter is a must! Honestly, we were so hungry and tired from driving from Arizona, that we were so happy to sit down and eat. Make a reservation or you will be waiting in that cold doorway! read more

Some of my favorites were the dynamite mussels, shrimp shumai, hamachi supreme and Suzuki carpaccio. Having frequented this place many times, I'm always amazed at the painstaking lengths that the owner went to provide a pleasant dining experience, good food, high quality ingredients, and a pretty excellent value relationship-- Only to hire incompetent servers. Instead, he doted over all of the large groups in my vicinity, promised me a refill on the iced tea, watched me sit there waiting for 30 minutes for a refill, and never provided such. You got it. When I was handed the electronic payment machine...Yupp... he literally stares me down like a back alley shakedown artist. In addition to wearing a scuzzy unkept beard, not advisable for food servers, right?, he actually seems visibly upset when I gave him 16% tip, even asking me "was something wrong?" Both food and cocktails very overrated for price they are charging even for Durango. By the way, after being there almost 2hours there were several tables still available, hostess had lied. Beware, this is not even close to the Old Ore House for quality of product and service.

The venture started on a cold and snowy day in Wichita, Kansas. I wanted to schedule a trip for myself and my three sons, so I began to look at traveling to Costa Rica. The trip soon expanded and included two of my childhood friends who brought their sons. Eight people went on the trip. As I searched the Internet, I came across Daniel Ross' business-scheduling trips to Costa Rica. His internet sites are: Jacobeachvacations.com; gofishing.com and bachelorpartybaycr.com. We wanted a day of fishing and other activities such as surfing and touring on ATVs. After I told Dan what we wanted, he masterfully arranged the entire trip, including transportation from, and to, the airport. We elected to have to meals provided for us. Each meal was absolutely superb. All of Dan's group was so nice, polite, and helpful. Before I booked the trip with Daniel, I did a Google search of his name and the AI portion connected Daniel to the business that he actually runs plus a used car business that he has nothing to do with. Because of the AI report, I had serious concerns about dealing with him. After talking to Daniel, I discovered that there was no concern. I am thankful that I trusted my instincts, and not the AI portion of Google, because he gave us a trip of a lifetime. I have absolutely no concerns about dealing with Daniel's group or recommending that others use his services. I've traveled a lot during my life and the whole trip was well-planned by Daniel and just fantastic. There were no hiccups or problems with the trip. Thank you Dan and your fantastic crew for providing a bucket list trip at an affordable price.

Bachelor Party Bay Costa Rica - Where do I begin? I was put in charge of planning my best friend's…read morebachelorette party in April. Of course I tend to procrastinate when it comes to things like this so I'm so glad I had Bachelor Party Bay to back me up. They literally helped with nearly aspect of our trip, from where we would stay to what activities we'd do during the day. Our host Dan was quick to respond to all of our questions and was kind and patient with our crazy group of girls. To make the process easier we choose a party package for our group of 12 girls. It included four nights at a beautiful mansion in Los Suenos, a party boat for our whole group to enjoy, and a ziplining trip. We also got to spend some time on the water. Our package included a fishing tour as well as white water rafting. Needless to say we had a blast and were glad to get a package that included activities most of us had never tried before and would have never thought of trying on our own. What I liked most about Bachelor Party Bay is how easy they were to work with. Throughout the entire party planning process, my questions were promptly answered and I was reassured that everything would go smoothly - and it did. The only snag we ran into was one of the girl's got a little seasick on the party boat. Of course, that probably had more to do with how much she drank and less with the actual boat ride. Most importantly, the bride-to-be had the time of her life. She's not your typical girly girl and loved all the outdoor adventures, especially the white water rafting tour. All of us also loved going back to our mansion in the evening, stripping down into our bathing suits, and lounging by the pool. Our accommodations included everything we needed, from a fully-equipped gourmet kitchen to the steamy Jacuzzi tub. I am completely impressed with the experience from start to finish. I'm also in the process of planning another bachelorette party for my sister at the end of summer and will no doubt be contacting Dan and the rest of the team over at Bachelor Party Bay to help me out. If you're hosting any type of celebration, I highly recommend a trip to Costa Rica. To help you plan the ultimate party, definitely go with Bachelor Party Bay.

My husband does commercial interiors and is super picky about quality, and kept telling me he couldn't find a single thing that the hotel did wrong either in the (centuries old) original construction or the maintenance and renovations that have taken place over the years. The interior is lush, historical and very very high end. Yet, it is comfortable enough that you can relax if you're wearing semi-casual clothing (as we were). Secondly, we had five drinks, including a mango margarita and a gimlet and all were well done, with complex notes, and at a reasonable price ($12-14 per, and I'd expect to pay $15+ for a cocktail of that quality in an equivalent environment in a larger city). There's also the benefit of ordering off any one of the hotel's three restaurant menus. I ordered the Mediterranean appetizer (which had hummus and two other dips with fresh pita bread) and the hummus was lemony and garlicky and everything good while the pita quarters were fresh and fluffy. Yum. My husband had some creatively named nachos which had wonton skins, Alfredo sauce, mozzarella cheese and Italian sausage and he's still talking about them a week later. Very fresh and very unique. The service was also exceptional. They have a small staff and anyone can help you. They aren't super speedy (just not the vibe) but the fact that they obviously work as a team means that someone is usually walking by your table every 2-3 minutes and everyone was gracious and friendly. The cherry on top of the entire experience was the guest guitarist they had playing. He was AMAZING and we stayed an extra hour just for him. Youngish guy with blonde hair that knows his songs and his instrument inside out and backwards and is more than a decent singer to boot. Great environment and a thoroughly enjoyable evening. Bravo!
