Aside from being a tiny bit pricy, the food here is really good. I love the burrito, it's not overstuffed with rice and beans and the tortilla they use is kinda unique in my opinion. The quality of food is great and they cook everything super well. If you're looking for something on the healthier side then you can find it here because they know how to cook meats properly and most dishes come with a side of pico and sauces. The flavor is just not really there though. We recently dropped in and had the chicken fajitas which again were good quality and cooked well but boring in flavor, even with lime and the avocado crema. I felt the same about the carne asada taco. Something flavor wise is just missing. They have a nice display of their other foods on the wall (ie lobster tostada, brisket tacos) but when I tried to order those they said they actually do not serve those foods and it's just decoration. Indeed those options were not on the menu, but how confusing. I'm not sure how well they are doing because the server staff was overeager to the point of annoyance. We had barely sat down before we were asked what we'd like for an appetizer and multiple people tried to take our order (even after we had already put it in). I think they could do much better in a higher traffic location, but since that isn't an option it would be awesome if they could find a way to offer outdoor dining, happy hour specials, something that makes the place more of a scene for folks to drop in after work especially during nice weather. First time at this restaurant and I'm giving it four stars primarily because while the food was simply outstanding, service is lacking and pricing on some items is too high. On the other hand, fresh ingredients, tasty and inventive seasoning and excellent presentation made for a great meal. So why only four stars? The restaurant was about three-quarters filled when we got there and we were immediately seated. Had water in a few seconds but a menu was not given. We waited and waited...finally asking the bus person for one. The entree prices are mostly within the range for upscale Scarsdale and the offerings were really engaging. Had a hard time choosing. But chips and salsa are not presented, but charged for. Spending $12-18 for a basket is insulting. And the tacos are 3 for $14 and great tasting, but they fell apart as soon as you lifted them up and either you used a knife and fork or had to jam the whole thing in your mouth at one time. Needs re-thinking. Our two dinners were not presented at the same time, a big error in my opinion. It messes with the dining experience when I get my food and my companion is sitting there waiting for another five minutes. You can understand that if it's jammed, but by the time our entrees were served it was down to only four tables being occupied. The server was extremely nice, but not as experienced as you might expect for a higher price restaurant. Will go back on a Tuesday, when tacos are only 3 for $10. I see reviews coming down on both sides on this place. Consistency, I guess, seems not to be their forte. Don't know if we were there on an off night or not but disappointed pretty much says it all. How could they be out of Diet Coke? How could they be out of calamari? On the way out I checked the permanent menu board on the wall and there were several other items, like catfish, which didn't seem to have made it to the menu we received at the table. Most of the dishes we got had off-putting flavors or textures. I ordered the octopus fajitas, which arrived not seared and with a mushy texture and fishy flavor. Dowsing them in habenero sauce didn't seem to help much, either. The pulled pork in the tacos was suitably tender but was eminently tasteless. The cilantro and garlic shrimp were little better. The quesadilla and the nachos that some of the other folks had seemed to have come off a little better. I am usually inclined to give places a second chance when it appears that there is potential but I will give PopoJito a miss. There are simply too many good restaurants around here to justify wasting another dinner there. P.S., Subsequent to publishing this review, a representative of the restaurant posted a response accusing me of working for a competing establishment and engaging in an underhanded attempt to smear his restaurant. What a great little gem!!!! Authentic, delicious, fresh, organic and natural Mexican food! Truly enjoyed having lunch here with my girlfriend. The waiter was super friendly and welcoming. We got the chips and guac, 6 tacos to share (chicken, shrimp and barbacoa). My favs were shrimp and chicken ones. Also got a side of rice and beans. It comes with brown Rice which was cooked to PERFECTION. And got the churros with melted chocolate for dessert. So warm, so yummy!!! They had sangrias and beers which I didn't try. But the menu looked great. Hopefully they have margaritas and cocktails soon:) the vibrant decor and signs were so pretty! I saw that they have a great happy hour deal 2-5pm (gotta come back for that:). I really tried giving this place a second chance. The first time we went, we dined in. It took 20 minutes to get our chips and salsa. The tacos were tasteless. The only dish that we enjoyed was the bowl. Our overall experience was disappointing [2-stars], but the restaurant was new, so I thought I'd give it a few months to get its issues worked out and give it another shot. When that day came, we decided on take out. Timing was quick, only 20 minutes. When I arrived, my food was ready, but I asked for an extra order of pico de gallo, which took 10 minutes to get me a small container. When I said an extra order, I thought it'd be a half pint at least, but it wasn't. So I regrettably asked for more, and another 5 minutes later, another small container came out. When I arrived home, we opened the bag to find one of our bowls missing. The bone broth reminded me more of a bag of oil then a broth. It was nasty. The bowl was not as enjoyable this time. The salmon in bowl was fishy. The fish tacos were also fishy -- again tasteless. I've never said this before about beef tacos, but the ground beef taco didn't have enough salt or any developed flavors. I was better off scrapping together a meal with cans off the shelves at DeCicco's, even CVS. When I called to inform them about the missing dish, the man on the phone said, "next time you come in we'll give you free chips + pico de gallo or hummus." I politely said thank you and hung up the phone. Sadly, even if they offered something nicer, I wouldn't have been interested anyway. I've had plenty of tacos and obviously the best ever were in Mexico City. The carne tacos very under seasoned and bland . The same for the guacamole. Street corn outshined everything else surprisingly. Staff does not look like the enjoy their work environment and seem to have a weird line of set questions that are clearly not genuine. Host didn't remember to seat us with menu, again staff doesn't seem to want to be there . This place is a mix. Trying for a cool laid back vibe with metal piping on ceiling and a chalkboard looking sign and open kitchen in the back. Menu is fresh for the area with eclectic seafood, vegetable and meat options but pricey. 3 tacos go for $14. No lunch specials and 3 tacos with nothing on the side is a pretty skimpy meal so adding an appetizer/side will set you back $20 without a drink! Weekly special tacos (at time of writing) were $6 for 1 soft shell crab taco or lobster taco. Yuca fries are $6. Here comes the other bad part is service is incredibly slow. Went for lunch and there were 2 guys running around for 10 tables. Cooks were also slow because 15 mins after we put our order in, they said they were out of one of the items. I entered on a packed evening after Christmas and it was clear people needed a night out after a long weekend! Since I was tasting some tacos very quickly I got right down to it and ordered what was recommended. I got the beef, fried oysters, and pork. First off the size was perfect and you get 3 for $12 instead of $5 each. The only thing I didn't like is that they were pretty wet, a lot of juice falling off. Other than that great taste and clean flavors. This place is still new so I will give it some time and go back again. Here's my big issue though, the choice of hot sauce is horrible, Cholula is NOT hot sauce, it's a chemical agent. The only saving grace is that they have house made hot sauce which I asked for. This place is new, so the food and their service are a work in progress. The ingredients are fresh and they are very well thought out. The menu, the special menu and they have a blackboard listing dishes (which means nothing ) and is all disjointed. The servers are all very nice and efficient, but there is a bit of unsure communications and that is from the Anglos, not this Hispanic waiters who are very clear. The menu is designed to be very hip and colorful, but is more confusing than clear and we wouldn't have ended up with 6 Churros instead of 2, but the guacamole was very good and the ingredients in the tacos were high quality. The barbacoa beef was well cooked, but could have used a little more seasoning. The cauliflower taco was also a bit bland and dry. The shrimp taco was the best of the three. The trend today is double wrapped tacos and because these tortillas are homemade the need was never more prevalent as they fell apart from the juices of the beef. The Yuca fries need to be thinner and have to show a little more uniformity. There seems to be a shyness tending not to over sauce and while this can be respected, there is a need to get a bit heavier. The Churro were ok, but a little to hard on the outside, but the chocolate sauce was very good. We will give this very nice, but small space another try. A co-worker and I decided to go check this place out on a Friday for lunch. We order a guacamole to share and we each got the taco special (3 for $15). I order the salmon, pork and cauliflower, they were so DELISH!! In fact, so good I came back the next day with my husband! We ordered the sizzling octopus fajita's and shared some tacos. Wow this is honestly the BEST Mexican restaurant I've ever had, hands down!! The food was impeccable. We ordered everything: quesadillas with chicken, steak fajitas, braised short rib tacos and finished strong with a churro sundae. We absolutely love this restaurant for so many reasons! They are super family friendly, have great cocktails and food items for adults, and they accommodate large parties very well. In fact, we had our daughter's 10th bday party meal there with about 16 of her friends, and they did an amazing job of coordinating with me, and making us feel comfortable throughout. And most importantly, their food is always consistently delicious. Well where should I start. The restaurant is very small and cramped. Some Manhattan restaurants have more room in between tables. Next, the service is quite slow, aloof, and does not check on tables regularly. We had to constantly ask for water glasses to be refilled and plates to be cleared when we were finished with our appetizer course. Service was quite slow for the type of food offered and the waitress/kitchen did not get our order correct. We also had to ask the owner/manager for our check because the server disappeared. Now let's talk about the food. This to was quite problematic as the kitchen must have ran out of salt and pepper as none of the food had any seasoning or taste. We had the dip trio which was guacamole, pico de Gallo, and salsa. The guacamole tasted as if it was out of a tub from the supermarket. It lacked salt, lime, cillantro, etc. The pico lacked salt and a bit of vinegar. It was diced tomatoes in their own juice. The salsa had the most flavor because they threw a touch of hot sauce into it but otherwise was quite lacking in other flavor. All were billed as fresh and homemade. They were clearly not. If they were the recipes need serious help. Lastly about the appetizer, the chips served with the trio, while cute as they resembled the colors of the Mexican flag, were stale. We had the tacos for our main course. My wife and I shared a combination of 10 tacos. We had the chicken, steak, braised short rib, mahi mahi, and shrimp. All of the proteins were once again not seasoned what so ever. All were topped with similar sauces even though the descriptions we're different on the menu. All of the tortillas seemed store bought and definitely were not fresh. Also all of the tacos fell apart because they were wrapped in only one tortilla instead of two like most other street tacos. My final complaint was about the so called homemade sangria. We shared a carafe of the traditional red. First of all the pieces of fruit were only placed in our mason jar glasses which made it difficult to get the fruit out of them . Next the sangria tasted similar to Costco/Kirkland brand bottled sangria which is not terrible, but not homemade as billed. Overall we we're quite disappointed with the food, service, and experience. The only reason I give this place a 2 is because the food is pretty good. Last weekend we ordered food and my husband went to pick it up. The said 20 minutes but when he arrived they insisted they didn't have an order for that name. The staff was very rude and wasn't willing to help in any way. When I called back they said they remembered my order and when they looked it up I was told there must have been some sort of "glitch" and our order wasn't sent to the kitchen. I understand things happen but the way we were treated and we didn't even get an apology or an offer to make it right. Started with the El Diablo (spicy margarita), which was handcrafted and delicious. Then I had the trio of dips- the guacamole was again fresh and delicious, and the salsa and pico were great. We ordered tacos as the main dish and were excited to try the Gluten-Free Squid and an order of Yucca fries. The assortment of tacos came first, **small** and lacking crunch-texture. With no free chips & salsa, we ate those morsels as our appetizer. The squid and fries were never prepared. We canceled those items and opted for a dessert of Churro with ice cream, which was tasty. Our bill was about $60 including 2 beers, Sangria and a small Pellegrino. I've eaten a lot of tacos in my day, and these are not worth $5 per piece - maybe in Scarsdale but not the regular world.
