My friends & I had an unbelievable time dining outside at PopoJito in Scarsdale. Its an easy 2 blocks from the Metronorth station. They are 100% gluten free & accommodating for dairy free. We ordered the rice balls, brussel sprouts (df), Rancher's bowl (df), tacos (df), watermelon smash cocktail, Lemon sorbet (df) & CHURROS. Unfortunately they do not have iced coffee but they were able to accommodate with an iced latte. If you want to eat outdoors I highly recommend making a reservation. read more

Came here with my brother the other day after reading great reviews about this restaurant and our dining experience definitely met our high expectations! We walked in around 1 pm and were able to choose wherever to sit. Our server was so sweet and friendly! As someone with strict gluten-free restrictions, it felt so freeing to feel like I could order anything off the menu :) They also have many options to acommodate other dietary restrictions. We ended up getting a burrito bowl with grilled mahi mahi (which also came with a super impressive scoop of guac), a few tacos (lime & garlic chicken, fried calamari, and grilled cod with mango salsa), and a cheese quesadilla off the kids menu just for fun. Everything was *so* tasty!! My favorite was probably the fried calamari taco and the chipotle aioli that came with it was amazing! The mango salsa and all of the fish served tasted super fresh - loved how the grilled fish had a really smoky flavor. I think getting a bunch of tacos and quesadillas to share would be the most worth but overall, it was a really great dining experience and I would definitely come back again. If someone were to ask what I would request for my last meal, PopoJito's food would probably be my selection. This amazing restaurant in Scarsdale makes the best gluten-free Mexican food I've ever had. The service is always impeccable, the staff are always welcoming and happy to have you visit. With an incredible drink and food menu, this restaurant is my absolute favorite and it's worth the 40 minute drive from my house. Now, while the food is incredible, their hot sauce is no joke. They have a line of different levels of spice that they make there. Food was excellent! Carne asada taco was seasoned well and meat was good quality not chewy, no tendons, cooked tender. Mahi-mahi taco was a little dry and slightly over cooked but the pineapple and mango balanced it out okay. Pork taco was JUICY and delicious. Guac was solid! Nice and chunky and didn't seem to have fillers. Yuca fries also yum!!! Everything was super tasty. If I'm ever in the area again will def go again. Enjoyed dinner for two at this Mexican restaurant in Scarsdale. The flank steak fajita was served on a sizzling plate with roasted hominy and black beans, some onions and scant amount of jalapeno. It looked awesome and my hubbie agreed. He did not share! I opted for the three tacos. Two Barbacoa and one Metzecal chicken lime served in tasty soft corn tortillas. Out of the two I enjoyed the chicken more. It was very moist and flavorful. The beef wasn't as full flavored as I expected. The 3 sauces which accompany the taco's were topped on the taco's which sort of masked that the beef was a little on the dry side. I would prefer they serve the three sauces on the side. Each one was topped with a pico de gallo, non-dairy crema and an avocado sauce. Because they were all mixed together I really couldn't distinguish one of the two sauces from the other. My husband was served all three sauces on the side with his fajitas. The taco's come solo, no rice or beans. Flavor wise everything tasted good, homemade and fresh. The Sangria is served in a very hearty sized stemware, great full to the top pour. The passion fruit was delicious. The Merlot sangria was a bit smokey for me but then again I'm not a Merlot drinking. My husband enjoyed it. I'd call the restaurant style chic industrial, I was comfortable and liked it. Staff is friendly, street parking, nice music playing. When you pay the bill there is a suggestion card and they ask what you liked and why or why not. Good idea. I should have suggested they serve tortilla chips with salsa complimentary when you are seated at the table. I can't think of one Mexican restaurant I've been to but this where they don't. Set in the heart of Scarsdale- I've been wanting to get in on this PopoJito wanderlust action too. Scarsdale got a new face lift a few months ago and such a nice shake up in these parts. Style and food were enough reasons to visit. Small place but with a fantastic design. I like the soul that PopoJito put into it to give it that unique and industrial feel: 'cement' walls, exposed ceiling pipes and warm lighting to soften everything up. Layback Saturday with my daughter visiting, was a treat and since PopoJito has vegan dishes to satisfy her lifestyle and several seafood options for me, it was a happy medium for both of us. Service was awesome and my girl Jennifer was all smiles and attentive. Our Vegan Eggplant dip was good and was every bit Mediterranean with Rainbow Tortilla Chips adding that Mexican pop. My Rare Seared Yellowfin Tuna Taco was so chunky and tasty- as was my Grilled Salmon and Charred Brussels Sprouts. And at $15 for 3- they were substantial. My daughter's vegan Tacos were also good. To round out our afternoon, their Churros were crunchy and so sweet- but that Dark Chocolate sauce- was the ultimate winner!!! I first discovered PopoJito when it swept across my Yelp feed under "Hot & New". Yelp does a great job picking these places out; all the eateries I've tried that Yelp has suggested are hot and new have been great spots. I'm always game for trying a new place to eat, and when my friend wanted to get together to gather some last minute tips before her Disney trip next week I suggested we try here. Located in Scarsdale super close to the Metro North stop, PopoJito primarily serves tacos and other Latin-esque cuisine. The aesthetics were a total yes for me - big, open space with an industrial decor. When you walk in the host stand immediately greets you with tables scattered throughout and an open kitchen in the back which serves as a focal point. We decided to share an app - the loaded nachos. These were served on a skillet with ground beef, diced tomatoes, and (I think) some kind of crema. These were pretty good - nice flavor and the perfect size to share. My only complaint is that it was too salty; some of my bites tasted like salt was sprinkled directly on the chip. That was just a preview - the real star of the menu is tacos. They're served miniature-sized with a number of toppings and proteins to choose from. At $5 each or 3 for $12, it was the perfect opportunity for me to choose three different types to try out. I decided to go with the braised beef, lime chicken, and shrimp. The beef and chicken tacos were topped with cheese, lime crema, and pico de gallo, while the shrimp taco was served with lime crema, pickled cabbage, and chipotle aioli. We were given the option to have sauces on the side, but I decided to just have them serve it on top. The tacos were very good; they didn't skimp on the proteins at all, and the flavors worked really well together. They had a fresh, pure taste to them which you don't see many places. We decided to get churros with chocolate sauce. The churros were served like discs rather than the long traditional shape; they had the taste of churros but they were a little hard and I wasn't sold on the shape. The chocolate sauce wasn't too sweet which I liked but it had a weird texture, almost like it needed to be tempered a bit more. Service was very good; from the moment we entered everyone was very friendly. Overall, I'm glad I tried this place out; it has a new, fresh aesthetic and they serve tasty, quality food. Feel good food that hits just right. Service was efficient and with smiles! The atmosphere of the restaurant gives off this home cooked vibe. Overall the food is astounding large portions, and priced right. I started with a glass of their Fig and Honey, then a bowl of Oaxacan chicken soup followed by the steak burrito bowl, and fished off dessert with their churro Sunday. The gluten-free food has been delicious EXCEPT one issue that occurred on Wednesday 11/8. My family ordered takeout - I ordered cod fish and fries for the first time from this restaurant. We've ordered from here previously with no problems. When I opened my fish and fries I thought it was a very small amount of fries (less than half full container, and almost looked like they forgot to finish filling it up or something else happened). For a $25 dinner it was very disappointing to say least. My husband didn't check before leaving the restaurant because we hadn't any previous problems. We would have taken it back but it wasn't discovered until we were home - it's about a 20 minute drive from our house. I had never ordered that dinner before so I had nothing to by. We took a chance and ordered it again last night on 11/10, AND that fish and fries was what the first order should have had, and looked like. It was very good and was correct amount of fries. All other dinners we have ordered have been fine except that one on 11/8. My advice is to check your orders before leaving with your food. read more

We recently moved to the area from Austin, Texas. Enjoyed many Mexican cuisine restaurants to say that PopoJito exceeded our expectations. We ordered guacamole and was so delicious (even my 20 months old loved it). The chips were lightly toasted and so flavorful (NOT greasy). We also shared an order of fajitas and simply devoured that plate. Good quality meat and veggies, and PLENTY to share. Also, tried an order of tostones which came with chimichuri sauce. Visited here for lunch, my second time here. attractive andinteresting interior - cement wall, industrial looking ceiling, well spaced tables (this time we ate inside - it's starting to snow!), outside seating was available the last time I was here. Attentive and efficient service, friendly and helpful staff. And the food - excellent! We started with the guacamole appetizer. Served freshly made, flavorful, generously portioned and served with a huge bowl of chips. Multicolored, and seemingly home made. Crisp and crunchy fresh. Perfect with the guacamole. For lunch I chose a trio of soft tacos - one with short ribs, the other two, shredded pork. Good choices - well portioned and seasoned, flavorful, tender, delicious. Only minor "complaint" - the limes sections served with the tacos looked limp. We topped off the lunch with coffee and warm churros - served with chocolate sauce and whipped cream. A yummy treat. And what's most amazing, it's all gluten free! Everything served here is! And I wouldn't have even known if I wasn't told! Except for the loud and very different / conflicting music between the kitchen and dining room, this place is truly yummmmm. Another issue is the use of only one small taco for each taco which results in a mini-mess. There's a reason two tortillas are used at legitimate taquerias - allows for easier and cleaner eating and a more satisfying deal especially at $5/taco. I had the cod, calamari and carne (Asada) and ended up with yet another carne asada because one was just not enough. so yummy Oh, and the hot sauce selections are a'ight but the (pictured) "buried alive" is best. read more

OMG delish Tacos alert! I was very skeptical about trying out a taco place coming from San Diego, but so glad that I came and gave this place a try. We were the only customers so service was super fast. The staff was super friendly and cordial. The decoration of the place is very nice. Love the color combination and the fact that had no issues with parking. Now for the star of the show... the tacos were fantastic. I ordered the chicken, barbacoa and the beef. All three Tacoma's had great flavor, the sauce is finger licking good. I started with the chicken and it was good, then had the barbacoa and a Patty in my mouth started! The beef was the third and last. This is my ranking in first place is the barbacoa, second the chicken and third the beef. This is a most try! Went back and tried the shrimp omg delish! A hidden gem - wish I'd know about it before now. The appetizers were delicious and the portion sizes were amazing. Great variety on the entrees and fabulous drink choices - including 4 types of Sangria and a great cocktail menu. We have a few family members that need to eat gluten free and it was such a treat to easily choose from anywhere on the menu. We loved it, and will be back frequently now that we know about the place! They really need a prominent sign out front...the space is well-decorated and has plenty of tables, but you could easily miss it if you weren't looking for it (despite being only 1 block from the Scarsdale Metro North station). read more

Been meaning to try PopoJito for a while...I'm glad I finally made it in. I ordered 6 tacos and chips/chunky guacamole for takeout. For the tacos I went with braised beef, carne asada, pulled pork, chicken, calamari and braised tongue! (On special). All were fantastic- with the calamari being my favorite...and I'm not a huge seafood guy. The guacamole was fantastic as well. Huge fresh flavor w great chips. I'll be back to work through some of the other menu items. Everything looks very good and super fresh. They had a few Sangrias on the menu that looked fantastic as well. Our fourth visit here to Popojito- and unfortunately still spotty, earnest yet slow service - the staff mean well but need far more training - my server brought me the chili with her thumb deep in the bowl and merely wiped it off with no apology on her apron, after placing it in front of me - I was so taken aback that it was almost a Monty Python scene in the making - and why did I not say anything? Well, I just couldn't be bothered to be honest at that point. By that time I had given up - yet was still in a reasonable mood and do enjoy sitting outside watching the world go by - I'd already waited 25 minutes for her to bring the cocktails - and by that time we'd already begun on the main course - she did apologize for the delay with the drinks order and explained she's "new and....not sure how to make the drinks yet.." that's fine as we were not in a rush but... seriously? Isn't there anyone experienced back of house to help her? However the yucca fries are great, the salsa and chips a decent sized order and tasty - rice balls an interesting side along with the street corn (delicious) although the guacamole is quite underwhelming and served with stale dried slices of limp celery and carrot (which our waitress replaced) and the tacos definitely worthwhile, with a good selection of variations. Stay away from the pork or beef as those are dry and tasteless but the salmon is great and juicy. After four visits to this restaurant, I have decided this is a pretty good place to order a cocktail late in the afternoon (I had a decent Mojito today) and dine on little appetizers and sit out front at one of the several tables. But I won't return for a full meal again. I don't want to be disappointed again. It's frustrating as I do want them to succeed. read more

Overall, everything was mediocre. I get there at 1:45 PM on a Friday, and the restaurant is 1/4 full. I see plenty of staff. I was greeted and seated outside. 1) I was given a menu that was filthy. 2) I waited about 10 minutes before someone asked me if i wanted a drink. By that time i put in my full order, 1 beer, 1 ceviche and 2 tacos. I was going to order a cocktail which start at $12 and there is a $6 up charge for a "premium" liquor. Yep, $18 bucks for a margarita. Craziness. 3) I wait an additional 10 minutes for the beer, which came along with the ceviche... the ceviche was way over cooked. shrimp and calamari were tough... also flavorless. I left most of it. 4) tacos $5 each: carne asada and pulled pork. Carne asada was ok, pulled pork was terrible. 5) as every good mexican/taco place should have Green tomatillo sauce, i asked for some green sauce on the side. they don't have it ... I almost laughed... no green sauce? Wow! they gave me a type of salsa that was overly sweet. With so many taco places around that are priced more reasonably, no need to come back here... read more

I posted pictures of the plates. I will say the location is perfect. The presentation is great. Very simple and straight forward menu type. Price point is also very reasonable. Ok so taste... I have had amazing Mediterranean food, I have had exceptional Mexican food but unfortunately I didn't find either of these very distinct tastes throughout the entire meal. Instead what we found was a very disparate rainbow of flavors throughout instead of it being melodic and flowing from appetizer to entre to desert. For example the loaded nachos are very bland the beef has no flavor (you don't need to use salt to add flavor, get a bunch of different vegetables and make a great sofrito out of just vegetables and it would add amazing flavor...) I added every one of the sauces just to get some flavor going. The nachos taste great but the ingredients ehh. Manager look into flavored waters perhaps it would open up the pallet. Now the tacos are not bad, pork meat tacos were extremely tough didn't really like them, the beef tacos didn't have anything to write about... Sorry. Now the positive ! The chicken tacos were awesome ! Very juicy and packing flavor it was great ! I wish I hadn't ordered the steak or the pork ! Lastly the king salmon definitely reigns supreme ! It was so tasty I would have eaten 10 of them ! You should skip the churros they are extremely oily. When I called to ask what the deal was, the manager was rude and dismissive. I'm not a complainer but it really pissed me off. Just ordered almost $60 worth of take out food and was very disappointed. I asked for fried calamari with no jalapenos and our order was full of them. The order ticket specifically said "no jalapenos" . The fish and chips were cold and soggy. I called the restaurant and was told by the manager that his kitchen workers don't read English well. I was offered no resolution or credit. Just excuses. Last time I will order here. This place doesn't treat the customer properly. What a shame. read more
