Good food, it's a nice place, and I appreciate the fact that they played old black and white movies on the TV instead of a news channel. Our servers were nice and polite, and dealt well with some rude customers while we were there. Very patient. I do have one important comment which is on the "robot waiter" that was working during our visit. The robot rolls around and delivers food, but I have to say that the robot kind of soured the experience. Everybody in our side of the restaurant while we were there was very displeased with the robot. One, I think people didn't like it because it clearly took a real human's job away. And I understand staffing shortfalls and everything, but I don't think anybody appreciated seeing the future of employment play out in real time at our table. The children in the room seemed either curious or outright scared of the robot, which rolls around and plays a music box version of "Surfer Girl" by the Beach Boys. Second, it wasn't particularly good at its job. You have to stand up from the table to get the food, and when it pulls up beside you, you almost don't have enough room to stand and get the tray yourself. And besides that, there was quite a bit of confusion about who's table it was serving, and this led to some peoples food getting delivered to tables almost all the way across the room instead of in the correct location. On our long trip through Texas, we found ourselves passing through Waco. We just had to stop at Poppa Rollos (the original on Valley Mills). Restocked our t-shirts and got a few pizzas to go. They were just as good as years ago. Poppa wasn't there today and we were disappointed. But, the food was as fabulous as ever. The server was pleasant and helpful. I've read many negative reviews about Poppa Rollo's, and would like to share my perspective. Wife and I went yesterday. It's an annual visit, in conjunction with an annual test my wife has. Long trip but getting the unique pizza is nice. I was a bit apprehensive given so many poor reviews. It's obvious there are new owners as well as new servers. Our waitress, Francesca, had to go to the kitchen to get answers for every question we had. Slowed things down, but appreciate that she didn't want to guess. She needed to be more aware of details, at one point forgetting she had taken my pizza back to get cheese added to the top. I had to remind her mine needed to be brought back. Pizza was as good as always. My biggest disappointment was that all the far-side cartoons were gone from the rest room walls. We were in the bar. All the plane models are still flying and signs hanging on the walls. Service will improve as staff gains experience. I'll definitely be back. read more

Placed an order on DoorDash at 5:45 PM. Didn't have our food delivered to us until 8:00 PM. Our dasher waited over an hour in the parking lot, checking on our order, to find out there were many customers there who were also waiting an hour to two hours for their food. Went here on a Friday night at 5:30, was not busy. Absolutely HORRIBLE service. Two dishes had to be sent back because they were cold-nachos had cheese that wasn't even melted. Never got offered a refill. Had to ask at least 3 times for anything like ranch or boxes. One server for the whole front room. It was absolutely ridiculous. We have had bad service before but gone back because of how good the food is but that is changing right now. We will NEVER go to this location again. Nope. The weird tiny meatball pellets they seem to be famous for just don't work for me. There is a metric crap-ton of them on the pizza, so they do not skimp, and I guess there is a lot of protein there but the meatball taste and texture is odd and unsatisfying. As a New Yorker for most of my life, and an Austinite for 27 years, graced with at least 2 dozen better pizzerias pithing a 15 minute drive, this stop off, though recommended, makes me think it is only rated highly because it's in Waco and the choices seem to be slim on the real pizza front. Oh, and there is an actual confederate flag displayed on the wall, which, had I noticed on the way in, would have aimed me at the exit. HELLO? It's 2020 people! The pizza was so good I regretted not getting a bigger one. The toppings were so generous I couldn't keep them on the pizza!
