I am sad after stopping in. About 26 minutes total is how long I stayed. I am a first timer, was seated politely & ordered quickly. I was excited for the soup which came out flavorless, salt and pepper did nothing. They were happy to take it off the bill, something I really appreciated. (Though it was +$4 with my meal and they had it as a separate item for $7.) My hummus and pita came out-delicious! Glorious. Truly some tasty hummus. The pita was soft and fluffy-it saved the whole mood. My pita was nothing to write home about, bland chicken in my opinion but maybe that's how they're served? Again, I'm a first timer. I decided to give half the pita a go, but gave up after my water glass sat on the corner of the table unfilled while the staff chatted in the back. There were a total of 2 people who needed attention besides myself at the time. I hope they leave happier than I did. I took my remaining food to hopefully feed a person outside. Today, in for my husband's birthday at noon -- 2 glasses of wine took 15 minutes to arrive, our lunch entrees about 30 minutes -- restaurant wasn't even half full! I was downtown for the Saturday Market today... but also planned on stopping by a certain food truck I have been wanting to try. Food truck was supposed to open today at 12:30... but nobody ever showed up. So went down the street to Poppi's! And I am glad I did... greeted when I walked in, and was told to grab any open seat. Server showed up quickly with water (it was hot and sunny outside and I needed it, lol!)... and a menu. I chose to keep it light and simple and ordered the Gyro Pita. The restaurant is somewhat small, so depending on the day and time of your visit, you may experience a wait for a table. Their menu is quite extensive. Very quaint Middle-eastern/Indian restaurant that's been in downtown Eugene seems like forever. Prices for dinner come to about $25-$40/each so sort of a special dinner place. Flavors are strong, portions are less so. There are better Middle-eastern eateries and also better Indian diners in Eugene/Springfield so Poppi's works for those groups who can't decide or wanna try 2 cuisines. Good service and cozy yet sort of noisy setting make for an enjoyable meal. Truly eclectic in every which way. read more

From seeing Yelp reviews, my daughter chose this restaurant for my bday dinner. All in all a good experience. Our server was sweet. The service however was slow. I absolutely loved the spanakopita and the hummus. The lavender lemon drop was delicious however extremely tiny- consumed in only 3 sips. The potatoes in tomato sauce were quite unremarkable. As a long-time Poppi's customer, I was really excited to see that the restaurant was opening in a new site at the 5th St. Market. We've eaten at Poppi's 3 times for lunch in the past couple of months. The service has been great. Each time, we ordered the same appetizer, gyros, & soup. The food was excellent the first time, & the last two times were not so good. I'd like to see this restaurant do well, & to improve, it seems that they primarily need to focus on making sure the food is warm. Also, they need to redo some of their lunch menu offerings. The dishes are quite expensive, so they need to find a way to make them more upscale. Otherwise, it doesn't seem worth it to spend so much money on basic food. For the last lunch, we spent about $55 for 2 non-alcoholic beverages, 1 appetizer, 1 soup, & 1 sandwich with the tip. read more

Crazy 1 skewer of meat and an underwhelming pita on top of under seasoned rice and a ok salad was like 23$ mind boggling. The meat was amazing but holy cow. Had dinner there last night for the first time. Staff was very attentive, friendly and helpful but, to be frank, we were a little disappointed in the food. First the good news; the Greek white wine was very good. The eggplant dip was delicious with pitta bread. The main courses, the fish and lamb were just OK. We thoroughly enjoyed our dinner here. It has such a cozy vibe and transports you away from the downtown area into a more intimate dining space. The food was really nice. Lamb souvlaki was tender, juicy, and well seasoned. We had a selection of mezze. The melanzatosalata was a bit different than others I've had, as their version includes what I assume to be tahini or some other creamy ingredient (as opposed to smoked/roasted eggplant with cucumber). It was more like a baba ganoush in that respect. The potato mezze was my favorite, but the levels of raw garlic are not for the faint of heart! My issue with all our mezze (including the artichoke) was that it was fridge-cold. I don't mind dishes being served "cold/chilled" and prepared in advance, but it was like you took leftovers right out your fridge and bit into it - you know the taste and sensation I mean. Cold on the teeth and all. So I would have preferred that they bring it up to room temp before serving to have a better eating experience. Service was really kind and lovely. Poppi's Anatolia is a cute little restaurant. It kinda feels like a 2 in 1, since they serve both Greek/Mediterranean food and Indian food (I'm not sure where the connection comes from, but as a lover of both types of food, it definitely piqued my interest). This trip I only tried the Greek food, so I'll definitely have to come back to try out their Indian fare as well. We ordered the Skordalia appetizer, the Gyros Plate, and the Spanakopita. The Skordalia portion was HUGE (we ended up requesting more pita), and the flavor was amazing. The bite of the garlic was prominent and accented by the zing from the lemon. The Gyros Plate was good. The beef was a little tough, but the lamb was cooked perfectly. I was expecting the gyros to either be premade, or with the pita on the side, but the pita was stacked underneath the pile of meat and tzatziki, which was puzzling. The pita was also a little bit over toasted, but softened up with the food. The salad was crisp and a nice complement to the heavier flavors of the gyros. I recently discovered Spanakopita and was eager to try another rendition. I was not disappointed. The spinach and feta was creamy and the filo was crispy. I loved every bite and wished there was more. Unfortunately, the spanakopita shone so brilliantly that the sides felt a bit lackluster in comparison. read more

I started going to the gym across the street, so we decided to come here after a swim. I have wanted to come here for a long time, and I really wish that I did sooner! The servers are very sweet and friendly. It feels like they are all sort of help each other out. We didn't have a difficult time getting a table. It smelled great in there. The ambiance is rustic, quaint and cute. The kitchen is open so you can sort of see the action while you are dining. I was surprised by the Indian food on a Greek menu, but it offered us a broader choice in a smaller menu. We have been twice now and we ordered the meze platter twice now to try everything on it. The Hummus, and eggplant are super garlicky! In the best kind of way! Loved the artichokes, and potato walnut spread as well. We also really enjoyed the dolmas. They are fruit and moist. The Dahl was simple and tasty. The chicken was really tasty. It was a bone in thigh and leg with potatoes that has a ton of flavor and some zucchini. The skin was perfectly salty and crisp. We also got the pork chop. It was a tad small, but flavorful! They bring you a desert platter when you are done. So you can see all of the dessert options. I've gotten the Baklava. Although it's a bit clunky, I really enjoyed it. It's made with almonds, and honey syrup. What else do you need?? Lol We have decided that this place eats like a really good home cooked meal. Nope. Un-yummy. I know that they are a fixture in Eugene, but for me specifically, the Greek menu is sparse, toned way down, and the Indian fusion offerings are only OK. I have tried on different nights and with different staff and the food is always the same. The wine and beer list is limited. We just don't eat here. It is not on our restaurant rotation in Eugene. The baklava is bad. Look, I know that is a bold statement, but I take my baklava seriously and I have sampled it all over the world: Lebanon, Singapore, Hamburg Germany, Athens, at the Grand Bazaar in Istanbul, street carts in Kapadokia, NYC, Houston, Tel Aviv, Berlin... I have had walnut, pistachio, almond, and mixture of all three. I know Baklava. Their version is not made with rose water, the walnuts are WAY too chunky, not enough honey is used - nowhere near enough, and it is not left to sit for long enough before serving. It is dry, chunky, not sweet enough, and leaves a powdery aftertaste. I will step down from my Baklava high horse now, but as a side note the best I have ever had was from Hafız Mustafa in Istanbul. read more

My husband and I have loved Poppi's Anatolia for years...but after last night, I don't imagine we'll go back. The saganaki was undercooked, the texture more like squeaky curds than the delicious melty texture that is more the norm. The bread that accompanies the saganaki was crumbly and almost stale. Our chicken vindaloo was on the cold side of lukewarm and getting it reheated took far too long (and after re-heating, it still came in a cold dish). Service was lackluster as well. Not sure what's happening here, but it was not the dining experience we're used to at Poppi's. read more

Greek night last night, food's delicious, hosts very graciously introducing specials and very accommodating about the drinks, willing to make the drink by requesting even though it's not on the seasonal cocktails list. Nice atmosphere not overly loud, you can still have a quiet conversation with your dinner partner. The special greek egg lemon soup's not very traditional though. It was a no for our dinner date night. I ordered a lamb kabob plate, the lamb was over cooked and chewy, rice was old and so dry unable to eat. My partner had an eggplant dish that wasn't flavorful. Poppi's is a unique place in the Downtown Eugene area as it focuses on Greek and Indian foods. Interesting combination but works well. The inside is decorated nicely with high ceilings and wood beams throughout along with the long hanging plants for ambience. I had a traditional Gyro along with my choice of a soup or salad. I chose the soup which was chicken, lemon and egg and was pretty tasty. My daughter had a tofu vegan dish along with the other soup they offered. We both really enjoyed our food. Great service as well. Try this hidden gem of a place and you'll love it. read more

Anatolia's has been a long-time favorite, but we haven't been here in 2-3 years. We were recently pleasantly surprised that they are just as good as we remembered. We always order either the gyros plate or roasted chicken. This time, we both had the gyros plate and it was scrumcious: moist gyros, delicious pita, and a Greek salad with a lemon dressing to die for. The portions have gotten a little smaller, (they use smaller plates), but the flavor and goodness haven't changed. It's also understandable that the portions have become smaller due to the rising costs of everything. We finished off our meal with a brandy-soaked cake with chocolate. -Cute but entrees were not worth it- The ambiance in this restaurant is excellent. Very nicely decorated and in theme as a Mediterranean restaurant. However, if you do not set a reservation, they will sit you in a small hallway between the restrooms and kitchen which is not as great seating. The service was good and they checked in on us frequently. We ordered Bhajias for an appetizer and that was very good and unique. My partner also got a fruit flavored shot he really liked. We were a bit disappointed by our main entrees though. I ordered the lamb dish which was served as bite sized chunks on a skewer. It was very over cooked and very chewy and there was a small bone in one piece. It also was very plain on its own and I needed to dip it in tzatziki to eat it. The olive in my salad also had a pit in it which I did not expect and almost hurt my tooth. The salad was also very plain in general and I didn't like it, and I normally love salad. The rice it was served in was also plain, which was surprising considering this dish was $23. My partner ordered the chicken and it was cooked good but it was served as a whole quarter of a chunk of chicken on the bones still, which wasn't listed on the menu and he didn't enjoy. He had to spend a while to get all the meat off the bones with just a fork and butter knife. It came with potatoes and broccoli which was cooked and seasoned very well. Overall, I do not recommend the lamb dish at all, but the chicken dish was good if you don't mind deboning your own chicken. Overall, it was our least favorite place we have eaten at in Eugene and we will not be going back. I am giving this 2 stars considering the entrees are over $20 and the lamb dish was really bad. Also, I was disappointed I spent over $20 each entree for dishes I felt like I could make at home. The total for 2 entrees, 1 appetizer, and a shot came to $67. read more

You know how there are restaurants that are local institutions, that everyone raves about, or ones that have accolades and awards, and you go there and it's just kind of...meh? Well, Poppi's is *NOT* that place--it's still great! It's been around since the 80s, and it still has managed to keep up a wonderful, warm, cozy atmosphere, paired with delicious, freshly made Mediterranean and Indian food. I think the menu has plenty of options, and a good selection of beverages. On my last visit, I got a gyro sandwich: the pita was warm and had the right amount of delicious char from the grill. The meat was fresh. The salad on the side was crisp and had a tasty dressing. I paired it with a glass of wine and had a lovely meal. My baklava for dessert was a little dry, but still flaky and delicious. I didn't know Poppi, but I know some of her family, and know people who knew her, and I've heard multiple stories about what a generous and kind local business the restaurant is and has been. (All the staff I met there on my most recent trip seemed friendly and relaxed so I assume it's a decent place to work.) I always get a good meal when I come here, and I love supporting such a great longtime local business. read more
