Had a lovely brunch at Nofo! The food was great, but truly the atmosphere was what sold me. The place used to be a piggly wiggly and they have old photos of what it looked like which brings a feeling of nostalgia and I love the cohesive theme. There's even a shop upstairs. Our server Lara was beyond amazing and the fact she's been here for 14+ years and the servers are family orientated, adds to how special this place is. I had the Bloody Mary and the fried tomato sandwich with scrambled eggs and it was delicious. (Sandwich had a bit of a kick, I'm not the biggest spice person, but it was doable)

Service was wonderful, was seated immediately though this place is quite popular. Great variety of beverages including alcoholic and coffee beverages. I ordered shrimp and grits and orange and candied pecan salad, yes portions for 2 though am alone but might as well try a couple as a newbie. Ambiance is really wusint, actually bordering mythical. The 2 story cafe dining area is an homage to the pig (pork sausages in blown glass chandelier hang as a focal point in the center of the room). Food is just mediocre. The shrimp and grits was swimming in very greasy lard, a tad too salty for my taste. The orange pecan salad was good although the pickled onion coukd have been pickled bit longer. Pecan pieces seemed to be store bought rather than prepped from scratch. Sprinkling of goat cheese was so minimal...where's the cheese?

Best hidden gem for brunch without the crazy crowds. For whatever reason it's a local gem of a spot that makes a mean French toast, seasoned potatoes and their sausage is excellent. Thoroughly enjoyed their pimiento cheese spread and coffee. Great place to chill out for a meal. Server and front staff were super friendly and helpful. Will definitely come again!

Met the college kids in Raleigh for brunch on a Saturday. We easily made a reservation for 4 the evening before and actually got seated early. Dani was our server and as super nice as anyone can be. We love how open this space is with lots of windows. There is street parking, a small Nofo only lot and the Wells a Fargo lot when they aren't open. Upstairs is a quirky gift store, selling everything from fresh ground coffee, frozen food to environmentally friendly underwater. The real show stealer is the food! Coffee okay, Bloody Mary I would not get again. Brunch, however was great. One breakfast burrito (ordered by the Nofo regular and former hostess), French Toast (highly recommend!), fried chicken and eggs with biscuit and gravy (could have used more seasoning in the chicken breading and more gravy on the biscuit), and the fried green tomato sandwich with the sweet potato fries (4 out of 5 stars for that combo).

NOFO @ the Pig is in Raleigh's Five Points area. The restaurant and gift shop was part of what was a Piggly Wiggly grocery store in the 1950s to 1990s. The rest of the grocery store was where Lily's Pizza and Third Place Coffee shop are now. I loved how so many artifacts were on display in the restaurant and gift shop. NOFO has a small parking lot for its customers. Make sure to enter from Fairview as it is one way. The restaurant is on the first level and the gift shop is on the second although it has some seats for dining. You enter the restaurant from the Glenwood side. The Gift Shop entrance is from the Fairview side. The restaurant just has a few tables and they were spread out well. We were seated at a round table so that made conversations easier between everyone and the smaller side made it quieter inside. There are outside tables available as well. I ordered the orange and candy pecan salad and it was made without onions for me. I did add shrimp and was happy with the portion. I loved the salad as it all went together well. I went with the apple pie for dessert. I think it got microwaved as the pie was super hot in spots. Other than that the pie was great with actual apples and not a sugary apple filing. NOFO will be in the regular rotation.

Great place to meet a friend.

Went there for the fist time to meet someone I worked with virtually for three years but never physically met. What a great spot for that! We sat outside. I made a reservation for Saturday brunch which I don't think was necessary. I had the green tomato eggs Benedict. Yum!! My friends had the French toast which they loved.

One of two go to restaurants for my wife and I in Raleigh. We love this place! Is in the basement area of a converted Piggly Wiggly. Food is outstanding, reasonably priced, and the service is always great. The biggest bonus, is the fact that the upstairs area is a retail space featuring North Carolina products. Everything about this place is awesome!

Fun brunch at this eclectic spot in the 5 Points area. It's a former Piggly Wiggly supermarket building, converted into restaurant/gift shop. Plenty of Piggly Wiggly memorabilia on the walls among well spaced tables inside, a few on a back patio and slew on the front patio. Our server, Rebecca, did a great job. Friendly, prompt and professional - orders taken & delivered accurately and with a smile. THANK YOU! Started with the house Bloody Mary. Perfectly balanced with enough heat to stimulate the taste buds without burning your tongue. Garnished with an olive, cucumber spear and a green bean, rim dusted with Old Bay. A great start! Tried Pulled Pork Hash. A tasty hash of pulled pork is griddled with potatoes, onions and peppers then topped with a pair of poached eggs and a dollop of hollandaise sauce. Poached eggs weren't overdone, so lots of yolk to soak up with the freshly baked biscuits. Yum! Even better is the Fried Green Tomato Benedict. A big buttermilk biscuit is piled with a battered/fried slice of green tomato, slathered with house-made pimento cheese, poached eggs and a shmear of smoked bacon jam, and adorned with a sprinkle of tomato relish. The smoked bacon jam is so good, looked for it in the gift shop (sadly, sold out on this visit). A very cool, laid back and relaxing atmosphere for a delicious brunch. Recommended!

Back in the day this spot was a Piggly Wiggly which is neat. On this most recent visit we made a reservation over the phone and dined in for dinner. We started off with a round of drinks, a beer for me and the High Fashioned for my husband, followed by two appetizers, the fried green tomatoes and goat cheese crostini. For our main courses I ordered the roasted seasonal vegetables and my husband ordered the winter salad with salmon. All of the food was amazing, unfortunately we did not save room for dessert. I've only dined in for dinner so I still need to check this place out for brunch. It's funky and is definitely a must visit. On another note, the market is located upstairs and is worth checking out if it's open during your visit.

Located on the ground floor of a converted they are open different times based on the day. I enjoyed a Saturday brunch. Tables were nicely spaced apart. The French toast was tasty and accompanied by some fruit. Breakfast potatoes appeared to be from the freezer which was disappointing. My meal was good to above. I did not indulge in some of the fancier items which might have bumped up my rating. Check out the gift shop before leaving.

I have been to Postino many times before, but this was my first time at the Raleigh location. While it's been 4 years since I've had Postino and the menu has changed a little, the bruschetta board is still a permanent fixture. We ordered a bruschetta board for an appetizer and I ordered the half panini & half salad for my entree. The bruschetta board is a must order because you can get 4 different kinds. The top tier choice is the salami pesto one. It's my absolute favorite. For my panini, I got the caprese one on ciabatta bread and the half of the mixed greens salad. The salad was delicious. This was a ton of food and felt very satisfying. I always love the vibe of Postino's, but this location was way too dark with only a small candle at the table. Service started off good and we were able to order our food without a problem. However, our server was done with his shift right after we ordered so we got a new server. Our new server had no idea we already ordered and was a little behind coming to our table for water refills. Despite that, we were in and out of the restaurant within 45 minutes. Postino is surrounded by other shops and restaurants, so they had a ton of parking available outside the restaurant. Highly recommend this place if you want good food!

The Food The menu leans comfort food with a modern edge, and it's done really well across the board. We started with a Caesar salad with dill pickle dressing, which sounds like it shouldn't work but absolutely does. Bright, fresh, and just different enough to be interesting without trying too hard. The beet salad was also excellent, clean flavors and well balanced. Then came the pimento cheese with fried crackers. This might have been the sleeper hit. The crackers are dangerously good. Simple idea, executed perfectly, and hard to stop eating. For mains, the fried chicken was solid but didn't stand out the same way the starters did. The short rib pot pie, on the other hand, was exactly what you want from a dish like that. Rich, flaky, and deeply comforting. Our starter of roasted beets had an incredible blend of buttermilk blue cheese with white balsamic thyme, pickled pumpkin, and Marcona almonds. So yummy. Then my husband and I shared the Ricotta Gnocchi that we agree is the BEST gnocchi we have ever had the privilege of eating. So light in spite of a duck bolognese being the sauce. Fried rosemary sparked my home chef mind for future meals! We also shared the Brussels sprout upon Brittany's recommendation. One of the most unique preparations on Brussels sprouts ever with oyster mushrooms and a sherry cream sauce. The restaurant is beautiful, cozy, and comfortable, and the hosts and servers have been excellent every time. We made reservations once through OpenTable and once by phone -- both were easy, and reservations are probably a good idea since they stay busy. The food has been great both times. On our first visit, my husband and I shared the ribeye and loved the flavor. Their Caesar salad is also surprisingly unique and delicious with broccolini instead of a traditional Caesar style. I also really appreciated being able to order a single Rockefeller oyster since most places require a half dozen minimum. The second time we visited for an early Mother's Day dinner with my son and shared the off-menu tomahawk, which was excellent as well. The only consistent issue we've had has been steak temperature. We usually order medium, but their interpretation of medium has come out significantly more rare than expected. The first time, we had to send the steak back, and they asked us to identify only the undercooked portions to recook separately, which was a bit awkward and something we hadn't experienced before at a steakhouse. The second time, we tried being more specific and even requested an approximate temperature around 140°, but the steak came out closer to medium-well. That said, the flavors, atmosphere, and service have been so enjoyable that we'll absolutely keep coming back. We're just hoping we can eventually land on the perfect medium steak on a future visit.

Parking can be a bit challenging as you'll either need to find street parking or in a open lot near by. The restaurant itself is located in a historic building that once was a funeral home and also was also a tax practice in a different chapter. The restaurant feels very upscale but there isn't a strict dress code. The kitchen is open as well if yo prefer to sit along the kitchen and watch the chefs cook. When you order you'll have to place everything at the same time but they'll pace it out to your table. For drinks, I ordered the In Gold Blood (Bourbon, amaro, Fino sherry, banana, golden raisin) and the head in the clouds (Vodka, Falernum, strawberry, pistachio). Both drinks were excellent and extremely easy to drink. You'll definitely want to start with the sourdough bread, NC Oysters (Roasted NC oysters, chili butter, preserved lemon gremolata), and fried NC shrimp (Fried NC shrimp, buried garlic aioli, pickled green tomatoes). All of the appetizers were excellent in their own way. The bread and butter just complemented each other so well, the oysters were well balanced and almost seared where they weren't chargrilled but partially still raw, and the fried nc shrimp has a nice contrast of flavor with the pickled green tomatoes and fried shrimp. For the entree we split the Prime-aged Delmonico (ribeye; and was served in a red wine jus, and topped with sea salt and peppercorn). The steak fell apart as you bit into it. For sides, we ordered the crispy potatoes (Crispy potatoes, Italian chili crisp, piquillo peppers) and Brussel sprouts (Embered Brussels sprouts, apples, lardon vinaigrette, almonds). The steak and potatoes were definitely my favorite. The Brussel sprouts were good but a bit on the salad side where they were still a little hard. For dessert, we ordered the cheesecake (Basque cheesecake, strawberry compote, olive oil shortbread) and the Sticky Toffee Pudding (Sticky toffee pudding, embered vanilla ice cream, benne seed brittle). The sticky toffee pudding was so warm and was excellent. The cheesecake also had a nice balance of flavor and the strawberry compote combination worked perfectly. I was thrilled that most of the menu was available. They were just out of the banana pudding. So I got to try the pecan wings I read about with the white sauce. It was so good. Then I got the chicken pot pie and biscuits. The pot pie had old biscuits for the topping, but the creamy mixture with large chunks of chicken was delicious. My biscuits came with honey and were served warm. I left with a slice of the chocolate-caramel-coconut cake, a side salad without onions, and a fried boneless thigh. The salad was made correctly, and the dressing was included. The salad was full of veggies, and the cake was rich and moist. Service was friendly and as soon as I finished my iced tea, another appeared. My wings were brought out first and it was a while for the rest of the meal as the restaurant was full. They know their craft, but they don't flaunt it--they share it. Ask for a classic, and it arrives perfectly balanced; ask for something new, and they'll read your mood like a seasoned mind-reader. The deviled eggs arrive perfectly plump, sunshine-yellow centers whipped into a silky, indulgent cloud and topped generously with the red peppers that bring just the right whisper of fresh garden drama, they're rich without being heavy, playful without trying too hard--the kind of bite that makes you pause mid-conversation, raise an eyebrow, and make you want to slowly work through the next one. They only come in odd numbers, sharing isn't caring on these. The BBQ hot honey pork ribs show up like they own the place--sticky, glistening, and just a little bit dangerous. The meat barely clings to the bone, surrendering at the slightest nudge, impossibly tender yet somehow still juicy, with those caramelized, crispy edges that feel like the best kind of rebellion. Sweet heat from the honey lingers just long enough to keep you coming back, fingers unapologetically messy and completely worth it. And then there's the mac & cheese--rich, velvety, and indulgent in a way that feels almost mischievous. Each spoonful stretches and melts like it's putting on a show, wrapping you in buttery comfort while quietly stealing the spotlight. Together, it's a plate that doesn't ask for your attention--it demands it, and you'll be more than happy to oblige. Cheers!
