Winston's Grill has so much to offer. We first time we went there with former neighbors of ours who had moved back to Raleigh from Winston-Salem. It was special to them because they said they felt at home at Winston's. The staff welcomed them seating at their favorite table and our waiter even knew what menu specials to offer that suited their taste. So good. Winston's is the perfect place for lunch when we get o visit the Raleigh area. I get the same thing almost every time...the hamburger steak with creamed potatoes and sautéed spinach. It is delicious! My mom gets their chicken salad and fruit plate. She loves it! See also, the peppermint icecream! The atmosphere is reminiscent of great restaurants from the 80s and 90s...busy and a bit noisy, but without the open kitchen feel and high ceilings that make deep conversation with your dining mates impossible. You can always count on great service here, whether it's at a table or the bar. Unless you have reservations, your choices are likely going to be the bar, the counter, or first-come-first-serve patio seating. All of which are nice options. At 4:00 on a Saturday when they opened, we grabbed a couple bar seats and had terrific service. I enjoyed a nice Italian Pinot Grigio along with the roasted chicken, while Husband had the chopped steak meal. Simple comforting cooking. I did question the pink of the chicken and was told it was because it was rotisserie. Also it was served plain but when I inquired was brought some gravy which was exactly what the meal needed. Winston's Grille used to be our "goto" spot for a good meal and a pleasant evening out. This hasn't been the case lately. We were there earlier this year and were disappointed with our meals. Last week (Aug. 14th} we decided to try it one more time. My end cut prime rib was awful. I've never had what I'd call "mealy meat" but this piece just crumbled in your mouth and had a fowl taste. I think it was overmarinated. My husbands filet was ok but his green were raw. As for the service, it could not have better. Khalilah was attentive, friendly and professional. It's really disappointing to pay $150. for a dinner you leave on the table for someone to trash. read more

This is the fifth time here and the first time I ordered something that was tasty. The meatball pasta was excellent. The tomatoes in the sauce were tasty, the mozzarella balls a welcome addition. Did not feel rushed. Got seated at 5 and left at 7. Service was extra slow. May be because of all the prom dates at large tables. read more

Ordered the special of the night, which was a lemon shrimp, chicken and pasta dish. Unfortunately, I didn't get a photo of this but it was very disappointing. Pasta was EXTREMELY overcooked to a point where it was mushy, and the sauce was sickeningly sweet, not lemony or savory at all, tasted like it had straight sugar in it. I also ordered the Caesar salad with blackened chicken, which was nothing to write home about. The service was also absolutely awful - the woman serving us was slow, there were multiple occasions in which my water was empty for 5-10 minutes at a time. She also left all of our dirty dishes on a tray within 3 feet of the table we were eating at through dessert and when the check was being prepared. The smell of all the food and the mess next to the table while we are dessert was off putting for sure. Overall, considering this is regarded as a "Raleigh Classic" it was extremely disappointing, and unfortunately this is the third or fourth time I have had this negative experience at this restaurant. I do not recommend here, as there are significantly better places in Raleigh to get a good meal. read more

Winston's Grille is still the place to go if you want amazing food and excellent service. The locally owned restaurant has been in business for almost 40 years, so they must be doing something right. The restaurant is located in Sutton Square in North Raleigh and has a good-sized parking lot. If you can't find a spot, there are plenty in the shopping center. There are even dedicated parking spots for to-go orders. On my most recent visit, we were seated in the private room with the round table. It is my favorite spot in the restaurant but there are no bad rooms or tables here as the restaurant was designed to keep each dining area small with it broken up into rooms and areas. The menu is large and has a variety of items depending on what you are looking for you can get salads; sandwiches: steaks; burgers; chicken; ribs; pastas. They even have some gluten-free items. I typically go with the chicken salad with fruit or the filet mignon as they do these dishes better than anywhere else. The Sunday brunch was a favorite but the restaurant is now closed on Sundays. I am still hopeful they will open that again as I miss the blueberry muffins. read more

We made a Open Table reservation for 4 pm on a Friday to give us enough time to eat and enjoy before going to a 6:30 event at The Historic Wakefield Barn. Very well received by the hostess. We were seated in a raised table section. Very nice atmosphere. Our waitress was very friendly, polite and attentive. I had the pork chop. It might be the best one I've ever had. The BBQ glaze was outstanding. It came with mashed potatoes and green beans, very nice compliments. Also had a side house salad with raspberry vinaigrette dressing--delicious! I ordered a pickup on 8/15/2026 for a copped steak lunch for a birthday for a homebound person who turned 85 on that day. Everything was very good, but the green beans were not cooked. My family has been going there for many years and considered it one the better eating places in Raleigh, but please cook your green beans. read more

I have been going to Winston's sine they first opened. In fact. I walked the foundation and site with one of the owners, Will ONeal. I have eaten there to many times to count as I really enjoy the food. I can not drive at night anymore so I called to see if Winston's worked with a food delivery service to see if how I might get delivery. When I asked the very young person on the phone she was unsure asked some near her and that 2nd female was heard saying "HANG UP On THEM!!HANG UP ON THEM NOW!! The line went dead. Wandered in here aa a midpoint for family members. What an absolute gem. This place is what restaurants should be. Kind, knowledgeable servers who seem to enjoy their jobs. Simple, solid food. I love their Health nut salad and just about everything on the menu, including blackened salmon and of course their homemade vanilla ice cream and don't miss out on the whipped cream. I arrived for our dinner reservations & had to wait for some time to be seated. We were seated in a semi-private area at a table near the bar. Once we were seated we were given water by our server/bartender. We were later asked if we wanted rolls. The rolls were good and served warm. I got a blue lagoon cocktail. The presentation was great and it tasted good. For my meal I ordered the maple bbq glazed pork chop topped with candied bacon, and mashed potatoes with mixed vegetables as my sides. The food was really good but the candied bacon was a little overcooked. The portion sizes was large. I was given a mini brownie with ice cream and a candle for my birthday. It wasn't bad. It was just okay. Service was fine. Food okay. Atmosphere alright. I had the salmon with spinach and veggies. It had a Romesco sauce-just a smear-on the salmon. Not enough to enjoy the Romesco's lovely flavor. The spinach was good, the veggies, nothing special. Zucchini, Squash, onion type of dish. My husband had the nightly special, a pasta and shrimp dish. My friend and I met at Winston's for dinner on a beautiful weeknight. I made reservations, and I'm so glad I did because it was rather crowded for the middle of the week. We were seated right away. Chiquita was our server and she was amazing. Once we had our drinks and had some time to review the menu (we took forever because we talked a lot before reviewing the menu), she told us about the specials for evening. Everything sounded amazing! We both ordered from the menu, not the specials. My friend ordered the Backyard Rotisserie Chicken, which comes with collard greens and mashed potatoes. She said the chicken and mashed potatoes were both really good, but the collard greens needed more seasoning. Chiquita offered her vinegar and it helped. I ordered the Triple Crown Stir Fry, with shrimp, chicken and steak, which Chiquita recommended. I enjoyed it, but didn't love it. Some of the broccoli was still basically raw, but everything else was well cooked. The flavor was good, but again it wasn't absolutely delicious. I usually order the chicken salad croissant, I definitely wish I would have this time. We couldn't resist dessert after seeing the dessert tray. I ordered the Creme Brûlée, and it was delicious!! My friend ordered the Raspberry Cheesecake and also loved it. I've been before and I'd definitely go back again. The service and ambiance is great. Wow, what a great experience, and there was no way I had room in my stomach for everything that looked so good! I had the soup of the day, chicken/thick/mushroom, so good! The pasta special was chicken, rigatoni, mushrooms, tomatoes, lovely gray sauce (almost like the soup), and a sriracha sauce. I got the sauce on the side but it wasn't too hot. Food was awesome! I've been really excited to try this place but not overly impressed on my first try. We arrived around 5:45 on a Friday without a reservation thinking we'd be fine but they told us they only had patio seating until 7:00...in 80 degree weather. We have kids so we didn't want to haul them somewhere else so we took it. Never again, so hot, bees and flies everywhere. It didn't help seeing numerous empty tables inside when we were walking to the outside section. We felt like they punished us for not making a reservation when they had plenty of seating available. The food was decent, salmon was way too salty but the appetizer shrimp was delish and my son ate all of his popcorn shrimp dinner so there were some wins! Our server was also fabulous and so nice! Absolutely fantastic dinner me and my girlfriend had on November 29th. Food got to us timely, and was as always delicious with the 2 specials we got. Main reason of writing this. Eric, our server, was the best customer experience we've ever had here and we've been coming for a while. Our party of four visited Winston's to celebrate my husband's 50th birthday. We had reservations and were seated immediately in a booth as my mother-in-law had requested. We ordered waters and cocktails. Waitress brought our waters and rolls but it 10-15 minutes before our drinks arrived. I ordered the Blue Lagoon which was pretty and delicious. Unfortunately husband ordered the featured cocktail, the 2XO Blueberry Smash and was really disappointed. It was pricier than the regular cocktails but a small quantity with a slight blueberry flavor and a weak bourbon taste. The appetizers were fabulous. We ordered the sesame tuna which had quite a kick drizzled with a wasabi sauce, and the salmon roll. For my entree I tried one of the specials of the day which was salmon over a risotto cake with spinach and feta. Very tasty although there were a few grains of risotto that weren't totally cooked. Husband loved his Triple Crown which he said was all cooked perfectly and a nice quantity. They also brought husband a mini birthday dessert! Overall a nice experience. read more

Today I needed comfort food and came here to get it. Its perfect for the cold weather and melancholy I'm feeling after my fathers death on Sunday 2/27/22. Needing to grab some dinner I turned to Winston's a dependable place for excellent music and atmosphere to soothe my mood and fill my tummy with flavorful dishes that remind me of Sunday dinners after church. Perfectly cooked pork chop steamy mashed potatoes and green beans plus I ordered side of collards to complete my meal. The candied bacon on top of the grilled BBQ chop was nice surprise the flavors mixed in well together. Finding collards in Raleigh should be easy its not but Winston's never disappoints they know how to cook southern collard greens with flavor not grease. The leftovers im sure will come in handy tonight. The dinner was just what I needed to help fuel me during this challenging time. I just love the jazz music they play at Winston's I know I've said this before but they really need to host a dance evening. I feel we have truly lost the art of dining and dancing. I marveled at watching my parents getting dressed for an adult night out Couples got dressed up and showed off there moves not to mention danced off calories.
