I have been going to Poppyseeds since they opened. Yesterday I ordered 3 chicken salad sandwiches on crescent rolls. They were wonderful. Today I went back and ordered another one since I had enjoyed yesterday's so much. When I got home and split the sandwich with my husband the first thing he said to me was it was stale. I agreed. Called back and the attendant said that the only way she could help me is if I bring the crescent back in so she could confirm it was stale!! Then she said I helped you and when I got the crescent it felt fine to me. As a longtime customer I will no longer be going to Poppyseeds or recommending it. I asked to speak with the manager and she said there is nothing that could be done unless I came back in. Living 15 minutes away I was not willing. read more

Wish I listened and frequented this place sooner.... it was delicious on a Sunday morning. They were steady in terms of business, but not overwhelmingly busy that the quality suffered when we were there. The woman behind the register seemed to genuinely care about what she was doing (that's rare!) She greeted us with a smile and even quickly corrected a mistake on our order as it came out - we really loved the food (if you've not tried the veggie cream cheese, you won't be disappointed getting it on an everything bagel)! SOOOOOO good!!! We don't live super close, but we'll definitely be back when we can. Much like most places, it seems they've had good days and bad - don't let the reviews skew you if you've not been there - give it a whirl and make your own decision. At least the 5th time we have clearly ordered a whole wheat EVERYTHING bagel and came home with just whole wheat. All be it fresh, but it doesn't seem that difficult. Love the bagels every time. My family are all from New York and we are bagel snobs. These are the closest to our NY bagels as we have gotten so far in the south. The service is generally good, sometimes it's a bit busy on the weekends. Overall, a great place to stop and grab a bite! read more

So it's been 3 years since I came back. The prices were mainly the reasons I decided it wasn't worth it. Today's visit was to have something different and this happened to be in our view. Bagels with cream cheese for me and bagel with eggs for the hubs. Today there aren't any add ons so I don't know if that part of this place has improved. I remember my last visit (3 years ago) the place charged me for lettuce and cheese on my sandwich and I felt a bit financially robbed. Basic sandwich ingredients shouldn't be an up charge. That opinion for me will never change. Today's visit was easy. The bagels were delicious and that's fantastic! So I'll let ya know if we stop by again to try a sandwich. . Poppyseed Bagels have been a couple of times. Ordered an omelette w/ham, peppers, onions and cheese. It did not resemble an omelette more like eggs left in the pan w/a massive amount of onions and peppers a bit of ham and much to my disappointment no cheese. Had an onion bagel w/it and it was tough not soft. It was cut as well which I had requested whole so I could save it and take it home for later. Another visit had a bagel which was tasty but it seemed like the cream cheese was cold because wound up w/what seemed like a container of creek cheese on it. Poppyseed is difficult because who knows what the prices are. If you can make sense of the prices it's beyond me. Customer service has always been great. read more

Good bagels are hard to come by in Charlotte, in my opinion. And of the good bagels, local bagel shops are even harder to come by. I say this as myself being a girl from jersey where there are bagel shops galore. So, naturally, when I came across a bagel shop that wasn't an Einsten Bros, Manhatten Bagel Shop, or any franchise bagel store, I knew I had to visit. I came the morning before 4th of july to get 14 bagels. I waited in line for about 10 min but once ordered, the bagels came out really quickly. I personally think that the bagels were good. Not chewy & didn't hurt my teeth. They were good (not the best I've ever had) but also WAY better than the franchise shops around Charlotte. I would recommend to anyone in the area! read more

This place has gone way downhill in the past few years. Used to be pretty good and always busy but recently ghost town. The staff seems to be bothered by having to take your order, not friendly at all and slow. But today we picked bagels up and when I pulled one out of the bag it's got a clump of hair baked in. Love the bagels- I come here all the time. They are very slow. Don't love the process- they are all taking orders and then walking away to make your order so I feel like it takes longer. In my opinion, it would make more sense to have one person taking the order and 2 people cooking rather than all 3 doing both. Many of the employees are not wearing masks and they do not require guests to wear masks either. They have a close community feel, and they have many friends/family coming into the location- and they allow them to go into the kitchen and behind the counter. Personally not my favorite thing, especially in covid. All that said, I still go all the time and they are delicious- just wanted to make people aware. Also, when you order you have to say you want your bagel toasted (even if you order a bagel sandwich) the default is untoasted. read more

Born and raised in NY, and I have to say these bagels taste exactly like NY bagels. Even the setup is very NY like which felt like home. You know it's a REAL bagel place when they have egg and egg everything bagels. The bagel egg sandwich I got was cooked perfectly, a little skimpy on the bacon but no bagel spot in the Charlotte area comes close to these bagels. Yeah they are a bit pricey but you get what you pay for. If you wanna save money, go next store and eat your stale Thomas bagels in a bag. read more

You've gotta love the additional space at this roomy second location of this wildly popular little NY deli/bagel joint compared to the original location at Chestnut Ln. I also love the the fact that I can order a simple egg bagel for a buck 75 or bagel with two eggs for two fifty. The item that matters most, their bagels, were excellent. We were a little disappointed however that, despite their high level of quality, their spinach was not fresh. I was also not impressed with their prominently displayed Chocolate Crumble that I found to be somewhat dry. But are either of those things gonna prevent us from returning, heck no! I have had bagels here before and they are decent, but this morning I ordered two eggs on a bagel and it is inedible. Tastes like silicone. They are either using a very cheap spray on the grill or the grill is filthy. I'd pay more for the sandwich if they would just use butter. Cheaper is not always better. read more

The bagels here aren't bad, they definitely do the trick. In a pinch when I want a BAGEL, I'd come here. That being said, I had very particular favorites that I can't help but compare. On my order, I recreated a recent favorite of mine, toasted egg bagel, vegetable cream cheese, bacon. On the first few bites I was very satisfied. A few more bites in, I couldn't really finish. I noticed the bacon seemed microwaved (I could be absolutely wrong here). It just happens to be one of those things I really don't like - that's a completely personal preference. The vegetable cream cheese wasn't my favorite, but I'm keen to try some of the other offerings next time. I really need to get through more of the menu to get a better idea. I'd say if you're looking for bagels, give this place a shot. I haven't had a chance to try any of the other bagel shop in the area quite yet. But I have "heard" this place is top notch. read more

I hate businesses who automatically add 3.5% credit card processing charges to your bill WITHOUT telling you in advance. They claim their prices are "cash" but no one walking in to order a bagel would know that and the cashier certainly doesn't tell you that before running your credit card. I've visited here quite frequently. I always return due to the experience. I live down south but always miss the "up north" deli experience and food. Poppyseed bagels get an A+ for cleanliness and courteous and friendly staff. The food is second to none. Within the first bite I can close my eyes and feel like I'm back up north. I can say hands-down they have the best bagels anywhere down south ... I like the everything bagel with the garden vegetable cream cheese but more so enjoy their sandwiches. We were hungry after church on Sunday and stopped in to get a quick bite to eat. I can't say enough about how incredible this little business is. Love this establishment but unfortunately none of the staff wear hair nets or pin their hair up... I've worked in the kitchen for a large portion of my life & pony tails should not be an acceptable hair style when serving food. Poppyseeds was one of my favorite establishments but after the third blonde hair I found twisted in my bagel I decided to give it up. I just went by there and saw that they have a sign saying that certain of their employees have "medical reasons" to not wear a mask. I will never go there again. Also in a previous visit an employee wiped the counter, rang up a customer and gave change and then made my sandwich with their bare hands. Food is great. Reviews on efficiency are on point. I don't understand why the management doesn't take the feedback and try something different. Been here a few times and here's the newest rub on customer service. They now charge a fee for using a credit or debit card. The only thing this does is tick off your customer. Credit card processing fees are 2-3% plus a per transaction fee. They are a cost of doing business. If your average sale is $10, that means 60 cents in fees. Who would notice if you raised your prices on each item by 10 cents? Instead, you're saying to your customer, "Let me stick you with a nuisance charge that most businesses figure out differently." Not to mention that card transactions are faster and save payroll over counting cash (twice, during the transaction and at the end of day). Wish I could love this place more. All it needs is for owners to take a look at how other counter service restaurants provide a better customer experience. read more
