Great place to eat! Great service and the food is BOMB!!! Stopped by Pops Cafe on my way to Giant RV and I 100% recommend this place!

Machaca con huevos - unfortunately reporting the meal was very bland. No salt no sazón no nada.

I did return because I was impressed by my first visit. This time the experience was different. The coffee this time was very weak and diluted. I ordered the machaca and huevos. Although the machaca and eggs looked great with all the diced veggies it was totally bland. The refried beans and rice were also bland. Too bad. I think I tasted more of the pot the beans were cooked in haha. I have two stars because at least the food was not dry or old.

When we arrived, the line was really long, even though I had called ahead and was told there was no wait. We still had to put our name on the list, but to their credit, we were seated within a few minutes. The place was definitely crowded and loud. I ordered water and coffee, and my friend just got water. A staff member brought the drinks but ended up spilling the coffee all over the table and menu. He just said, "Sorry about that," and walked off. I figured he would come back to clean it up, but he didn't. I had to flag him down to ask for napkins. Instead of helping, he just dropped off a stack. It was a lot of coffee, four napkins were soaked. Thankfully, our server Paris turned things around. She was super friendly and had great personality. I asked her for a recommendation between the breakfast burrito and the Belgian waffle. She suggested the burrito, and it did not disappoint. My friend got the country fried steak (which Paris said was the best in town), and he was also craving a pancake, so they let him sub that in for toast. Service started off rocky, but Paris made the experience better. I probably would not return to sit down but I would order take out.

First timers driving by from out of town. OMGOSH pancakes. I was looking for good ones and I definitely found them. Hubby really enjoyed the CFS. It's his go to when we stop into wonderful places like this. Potatoes done exactly as asked, coffee..YES PKEASE keep this wonderful taste comin'. Wait staff...10/10. Very kind friendly and knowledgeable. What we need more of everywhere. We will be back. Oh...saw onions-had to taste onion rings. DELICIOUS! We will be back when in town again.

I thought it was good but not great. First time trying pops cafe with some friends and we weren't sure whether to try the huevos rancheros so I went safe and ordered corned beef hash... I asked the lady if it's made in house and she said yes but ... definitely Did not taste like it. Maybe I did not ask the question the right way haha but yeah it didn't taste like something they made or look that way either. I've had homemade corned beef hash and this def was not it. My friend got their pork chorizo plate and the beans were def canned also. The country fried steak also did not taste like something they made themselves. The price for these plates were about $17+ each. The pancakes on the other hand were great! We loved the pancakes a lot! That's where they get there 3 stars from me. I heard this place gets pretty packed and you seat yourself. Service was good though. Friendly people. The food was just ok. Thankful for those pancakes though...

Very good service! Food was good nothing special about it. The inside was loud like any breakfast restaurant. The walls have old license plates from different states and countries. We were charged for an extra coffee which and also they charged us more than the bill amount. When they swiped the credit card it was .93 cents more than what the food receipt said. I didn't read anywhere if they charge to pay for credit card or did they warn me but I figured that's what it was.

Noisy; popular and well organized. Food was great! The salsa could be much better but overall, great. The breakfast burrito was good and quite big. Waffle breakfast was equally good. Service is always attentive. Will be back!

My boyfriend recommended me this mom and pop shop. We tried coming here a couple times but the wait was insane! We tried one more time on Valentine's Day and we waited for about 30-45 minutes, considering the date, it wasn't too bad! The portions are hefty and the waiter was patient and polite.

Pop's is a longtime local favorite in Downey. It provides excellent service, good food and reasonable prices. It won't break the bank to take the family out for breakfast! I've explored much of the menu, but I always return to their famous pancakes! They are enormous, fluffy, and have that perfect, old-fashioned hotcake flavor that other spots just can't match. The BLT on rye or sourdough is another standout: a classic sandwich absolutely piled high with super crispy, perfectly cooked bacon. If you're looking for genuine, quality food and a great atmosphere, make a special trip to Pop's!

Not the worst place for breakfast, but a little overpriced for over cooked steak and soggy waffles (cooked fruit on a Belgian waffle instead of fresh....seriously) the only upside was that my son's chicken nuggets were perfect. Don't think it's worth the wait for a second trip. read more

The service here was terrible. When I walked in no one said hello or pointed out where to sit. The only two tables available were both dirty. When the man bussing the tables came to clean a table, I asked him for a high chair for my daughter and he seemed reluctant to get it for me as if he wanted me to get it myself. The food was just okay. The pancakes were huge, but a little chewy. The other food was nothing to write home about. read more

Never have I ever been more humiliated in my entire life! My family and I decided to come here after my brothers acceptance in to the Montebello Fire Department. When we arrived I added my name to the waitlist (party of 10). The list had hit the bottom of the paper so I decided to start a new line next to it. Another party came (party of 9) and squeezed their name at the bottom of the first line. We waited about an hour and half (when they told us it would take 30mim) no biggie we didn't mind but my sister noticed that the party that arrived after us, was all of a sudden ahead of us. I explained the situation to one of the younger employees and he was very understanding as he had the evidence in his hand. A shot man with gray hair and an accent took over and I explained to him the situation. He decided to let the other party go ahead of us still and that wasn't the issue. The issue was, that when I approached him about how much longer it would take- he right away spoke to me with a passive aggressive tone of voice. When I asked how long it would take, he responded with "idk I'm not a magician" and continued to insult my intelligence and then later kicking me, my family and my brother who is now serving the city of Montebello. The only reason why I left peacefully was because my little niece and nephew and my mother were present. I would never let someone disrespect me or my family like this! That dude can go fuck himself! But shoutout to the guy initial guy who was very helpful and understanding. read more

Pops is a little hidden gem in Downey. Always crowded on the weekends. The place is very very boring inside, but the food is good. I always get their turkey, bacon, avocado sandwhich on toasted sourdough. It's a family owned business and the waiters are super nice. read more

Don't trust the hype... went today because of the reviews and it was close by, but what a disappointment. The food in the beginning is OK... by the time I finished my meal I felt disgusted. I love trying eggs Benedict wherever I go, and some other girl wrote in a review that she placed these in her top 2... no way. Their cappuccinos are the same that you get at a 7-Eleven, cheap, and too sweet. Only thing great here is their service. read more

Food was awesome! It was a bit of a wait but well worth it. The server was beyong friendly and very attentive. Portions were generous. I was blown away by the biscuits and gravy....im a foodie and ive tried others.....this is top notch! I will definitely be back again. I first discovered " POPS CAFE " years ago on Firestone Blvd and Paramount across from Norms Resturant. My wife & I love this place so much we followed them to their new location on Florence and Rives. My wife loves there Pork Chop & Eggs , Irish Potato. and great coffee I like there chicken fried steak with eggs and hash brown. Its a cozy place but you get your moneys worth. P.S...anywhere you see truckers , Police, firemen, and business people eat..it must be good food... read more

I am so happy I have finally found an excellent breakfast place for my Sunday mornings! The chicken fried steak with biscuits and gravy are the best. When you first get there, go inside straight to the cashiers counter and put your name down on the list with the amount in your party. And then go stand outside and wait for them to call your name. Trust me, they go through that list quickly! They have really short hours: Tues-Sun from 7am - 3pm...but I guess that's the price you pay for quality! read more

Had it just this morning. It was my first time here . Great little spot didn't even know it existed my BFF lives down the block and I've never really noticed it . Anyway, food was pretty good. I had to try the new York steak and eggs with hashbrowns and 2 pancakes. The steak I got it well done & it was sooo good. Hashbrowns, well they were just hashbrowns so they weren't bad nor the best thing ever. Just good. The eggs I asked for them over easy but I got one over easy and the second one kinda cooked all the way . Like yo wtf? My egg -.- I tried the coffee which I really liked. GREAT LITTLE SPOT. Good coffee, pretty fast service, lively open setting, but long food time delivery and subpar quality of food. We had the Denver omelette- it was a fried egg patty with the ingredients on the inside. The top had one slice of packaged cheddar cheese. I also asked for the Irish potatoes but got hash browns with grilled peppers and onions on top. Wifey got the French toast - grilled not deep fried (!) - and said they were decent. The pork sausage was burnt and dry. read more

Toast has been on my list of places to check out for a couple of years, and a friend put it back on…read moremy radar back in April. Just a couple of weeks ago, my friends and I were considering our options for where to have brunch to celebrate one of our friend's retirement. Toast was one of the names I dropped in the metaphorical hat, and it won the vote of a few. My friends were surprised that I had named a spot I hadn't yet tried since I'm usually the "foodie" of the group. However, another girl in the group who had been here before vouched for it. I'm glad I finally got to try this place this past weekend, and I cannot wait to return! There were so many things on their menu that I wanted to try. A couple of the ladies ordered green chilaquiles, the friend we were celebrating ordered the Spanish Omelet, another woman I'd met that day had the bacon and eggs, another one ordered the Biscuits and grave with a side of bacon that looked perfectly crispy. I wish I had taken pictures of the plates as it all looked so lovely! I didn't even take a picture of my own food haha. I had my eyes on an omelet, one of the Benedicts or the Chicken n Waffle. In the end, the chicken and waffle won. It comes served with a little container of maple syrup with bacon pieces. The chicken was perfectly crispy on the outside and juicy on the inside. The waffle was delicious, though I did request for some extra syrup on the side. To drink, a few ladies ordered mimosas, one ordered an iced caramel coffee, and I ordered the Carajillo. I fell in love with this drink last summer in Mexico and do not often see it on the menu. I love the subtle citrus notes the Licor 43 adds to this espresso drink. It is very similar to an espresso martini, and theirs comes topped with a toasted marshmallow. I honestly wanted to try almost every item in their Tipsy Barista section of their drinks. I'll just have to come back that many more times :) Plenty of parking in the mall lot. It does get pretty packed during peak hours. Fortunately I had called ahead to put our group of 6 down. We went in on Saturday around 11:30. It slowed down a bit while we were eating, but started to get busy again after 1. Otherwise, we might have been forced to honor their 90-minute rule. All in all, a great experience from everyone in our group. No complaints on the wait, service or food. That certainly deserves a toast. Great job, Toast!

Usually smaller restaurants like these are understaffed and tables sit unbussed and wiped down for too long. Not here! The inside and outside were really clean and tables were cleared quickly. We actually overstayed our welcome but no one ever hounded us to leave the table. My brother lives about five minutes away from this spot, and I love visiting him in the mornings and heading out to eat breakfast at Pop's, The atmosphere inside is homey and very welcoming. The servers are very kind and patient and loving joking around. The pancakes are unbeatable, and the coffee is amazing as well. Prices are pretty good for what you're getting. Free refills on the coffee as well. The kids also love it here! They love having breakfast with their tio. Nothing is ever missing, and if I ask for extra of anything, it's always included. Always nice to find hidden gems. I was on the lookout for a family friendly place to eat breakfast with great food and Pop's Café definitely has it. I'm usually not one to wait around for breakfast however the line outside Pop's seemed to be moving at a decent pace so I decided to stay and try it out. I am sure glad I did as their eggs benedict were amazing and went well with their delicious Irish potatoes. Usually in places like these you either get great food with mediocre service or mediocre food with great service, Pop's I'm glad to say has both amazing food and service. First time here read a lot of reviews about long lines and having to wait a bit for a table but we just walked right in and sat at the only table open lol which i guess if we would've been here 2 min later we would've waited!! Right away drink orders were taken within 5 min Ordered the deep fried french toast breakfast and my buddy ordered a pancake breakfast.. Amazing service with a friendly and knowledgeable waiter. Our meals were delivered in reasonable time and they were absolutely delicious! I highly recommend the eggs Benedict with the crunchy potatoes. I would've added a picture but was halfway through the plate when I remembered Jose was always checking in and asking if we needed anything. Awful awful awful we got there because of the Google site and we Been at the Santa Ana Pops restaurant before so we decided to follow up on the second restaurant so we were asked request in for reservations and of course Google says that there's no way come on down I tried calling them to confirm no one picks up so once we got there I confronted the waitress in regards to our presents and she says that Google was off-key that Google stole their identity and that we don't follow anything that Google says so go figure read more
