This little spot has been popping up when I have searched for different local coffee spots to try. Finally decided to pop in with the family this weekend. The place is pretty small, but the tables were available. Service was great. We were acknowledged as soon as we walked in despite there being a few people being attended. I ordered iced horchata latte and my husband got the Nutella latte. Sandwiches, I shared with my son, he chose tuna, and husband went with the pesto. Drinks were delicious, and so were the sandwiches. We ordered a few desserts to go and those too were delicious. Definitely regret not going sooner.

I actually went in January but i'm giving them a review now because i just remembered! A lady helped me and my friend out she was so sweet and the drinks were so tasty! Amazing service and food Such a cute cafe very welcoming.

Breakfast burrito w/egg,bacon & hash browns

Marin Cafe is a small place but very clean and cute. The Owner was very cool and gave great service. I had the Best breakfast burrito in Pico RiveEggs, Bacon and hash browns. They do come with ham and cheese but I didn't want it with those items. Very accommodating. I also had the "strawberry one bite" pastry. It was very delicious. I will be back to try cream puffs and another breakfast burrito

So far I only tried the bread pastry. Tasted like stale hot dog bun, cream was just ok, and fruit is old. Besides the oranges, the fruit displayed on the cake looks old too. We had to make an extra trip to the market to replaced everything with fresh fruit. Sincerely hoping the cake is decent, if not then I have no idea how this place has a 4.7 rating. I will update once I try the cake. Service was friendly so two stars. Update: If you're looking for a moist and tasty cake, this is not it. Highly not recommended. Would never ever come back. Thank God we had a backup cheesecake from somewhere else.

We ordered a slice of cake, a breakfast burrito and breakfast sandwich on sourdough bread. The breakfast was hot and fresh! I loved that, it was about $30 for everything. The burrito came with a salsa, it wasn't too spicy. The sandwich had honey mustard I believe but it was good. Both were very filling and the cake was so so good! It was definitely made with fresh blueberries. The woman who took our order was kind as well. There's 3 tables in there but the place is pretty small like a cafe.

Thank you for the beautiful graduation cake. As always, a very pleased customer. The cake was moist and flavorful and beautifully decorated, made to order.

Excellent little community cafe that serves delicious breakfast, coffee, and pastries. I regularly order the breakfast burrito or omelettes, my daughter loves the pancakes.

A cute coffee and pastry shop with great service, came by for a cup of coffee and ended up ordering their waffles and tuna sandwich. The lady at the counter recommended their horchata coffee and chocolate abuelita, I'll say their chocolate abuelita was fantastic. The horchata coffee needed a bit more flavor. The French toast were fluffy and tasty I would recommend trying them. Many folks were coming in to pick up care orders, so next time I come I'll give it a try. Parking is a. Bit challenging as it's shared with several other businesses.

Got a custom edible photo cake that was super reasonably priced. I ordered sort of last minute and they were so accommodating. Highly recommend for cute, affordable photo cakes!

The cakes are not only beautiful and delicious but they are the center of attention at our parties. Look at this because cake for a monster truck theme. Last year we had a Mickey Mouse theme ... that too was a hit! I highly recommend this gourmet cake store to anyone who wants a delicious yet beautiful cake. The service is fantastic too

Once we were ready she had our table already prepared. We have to order inside first before you can be seated. Once seated our food came out not too long after. Everything looked and tasted delicious! We ordered the chilaquiles verde, short rib omelette, tropical pancakes (seasonal), and the mango curd french toast (seasonal). The chilaquiles verde was savory and tangy. It wasn't soggy at all and definitely one of my favorite dishes. The short rib omelette was savory but didn't give me any wow factor compared to the other dishes I ordered. The tropical pancakes were so pretty. I only tried a piece of it without the syrup which I think was a mistake because the kumquat syrup was my friend's favorite. I definitely need to try it again with the syrup. Best for last, mango curd French toast was my favorite! I fell in love with sweetness and tanginess of the mango curd. The French toast was soft and you can taste the butter. I wish it was a main menu item. I'll definitely be sad to see it go. They have lots of seating inside and outside.

Poached Neighborhood Kitchen presents itself as the kind of elevated brunch destination that…read morepromises thoughtful execution and a polished dining experience. Unfortunately, the reality falls noticeably short of that expectation. While the food itself is serviceable, it never rises beyond what you might expect from a standard at-home breakfast spread. Nothing on the table felt particularly memorable, inventive, or worth returning for. The biggest disappointment came in the details, but really lack thereof. The fruit served alongside the meal had the unmistakable appearance and texture of pre-packaged, bulk-distributed produce, lacking the freshness and vibrancy you would hope for from a restaurant positioning itself as a neighborhood kitchen. It gave more cafeteria than curated brunch. Service also struggled to meet even basic hospitality standards. Water refills required repeated attempts to get someone's attention, and neighboring tables were similarly left flagging down staff for utensils and tableware. Once the order was placed and food delivered, attentiveness seemed to disappear almost entirely. I'm not sure where the standard is set.. Given the location and atmosphere, there's an expectation of a more refined and welcoming experience, but the execution never quite supports the price point or reputation. If you do visit, avoid outdoor seating unless you're prepared for an even more disconnected service experience. Ultimately, there are far better places to spend your brunch budget. Especially when this is the kind of meal many could comfortably recreate at home with fresher ingredients and more care. If you're going to have competitive price points for these meals they should at least match.

They do need to work on a better system on when they bring out food because they gave a few people the wrong items or items that belong to at another table. Some people would be really pissed and would be sending food back if they saw that their food was placed and left at the table for a while. Just in the time that we were there (2-3hrs) they did it about three times. All the items that we got from the menu were really good and tasty . We ordered the guacamole.... And we got one with little pieces of meat sticking out of it that were crunchy and were delicious. We ordered different cocktails, like the Cantarito, la Chulada, raspberry dreams..... all delicious And they have a very big menu! Mexican food with a twist.... Some classics & classics w/ their own unique take so all of that was fun. What I'm not so OK with is the fact that a lot of the items on the menu did not have prices. I had seen their promotional videos on social media like Instagram and TikTok., and I even went on Yelp to look at their menu ..... some of the prices on the yelp menu do not match the current ones ... and yes, I understand that inflation and all of that happened but all I'm saying is to be aware ! and it was not the first time I was there but the last time I was there, I was there for brunch happy hour and we stayed long so we even got like the next happy hour lol So I had good memories of this place and wanted to take other ladies from my little circle to experience it. So going back to the prices, a lot of the items on the menu didn't have prices so I would say be careful with that! Some of the items that don't have prices for example, the guacamole on yelp I had seen that the guacamole was like 12 inch change & it was delicious but this one was $19.99, I will say it's a fair price because it came with pieces of steak but all of these things will make your bill add up, so be careful and be prepared. The cocktails most of them were between $17.99 and and $19.99 i've seen or had cocktails of this price before, like in fancy restaurants so ok and the size are good and they were tasty, but if you're not going for happy hour, which they do have very good specials for happy hr specials but if you're not going for happy hour, then be careful! The part I did not like was that after we left home, we noticed that they add up all of the items that we consumed and if you have a bigger party, they add the service charge tip 18% and then they add the tax which in Downey is 10.5% so we are essentially paying tax on the tip and from what my understanding is, that is not the way it should be calculated. My mother is a waitress and she has to pay the taxes on that tip that she earned, which is why it's messed up when people don't leave a tip. So this establishment is either paying the tax for their staff, idk ‍ which I wouldn't be so upset about again because my mother is a waitress.... But more than likely what they're doing is that they're keeping that money and that's not OK. When I called to speak to the manager the next day, the person that answered said that the manager was not available that they have nobody on the floor at that time it was about 3 PM. And I said so you have nobody that's in charge of the facility at this time she said no somebody will get here after 5 PM and I said OK can I please have that person's name and she said very quickly oh, I'm not allowed to give that information I said why not that should be public knowledge, and she proceeded to say that she was trained to say that she could not answer those things, so since I felt that I couldn't do anything else at that moment, I told her OK please let your manager know that I will be calling back because I noticed that you guys are charging tax on the bill after adding the tip and that should not be OK and I even proceeded to say that I might call back with my lawyer because honestly by that point I was a little annoyed because she was cutting me off. I did finish off by telling her if you were saying that you're willing to take a message then take the message and don't cut me off. Anyways, like I said food is good. Music is good. I wouldn't sit inside. It's too loud. You can't even have a conversation with the person you're sitting with... outside in the patio, the music is loud but decent and the servers were very nice, the food is good, but I do not like how they handle this bill and what they're charging everybody that goes into their establishment.... So go at your own risk!
