And whenever we take a drive like that, we make it our mission to find a highly rated local lunch spot. This one was on the way home and looked promising, so in we went. I will say this for Texas. Onion rings are everywhere here, far more than when I lived in California. I will happily take that as a win, because the heat for about nine months of the year is not my jam. Sadly, the onion rings were not listed as one of the many sides (so we couldn't get them as a side with our meal), but we ordered them as an appetizer ($8.99 I think) with blue cheese dressing. I am not a ranch girlie, and I stand by that choice. The blue cheese had huge chunks in it, which makes me think it might be house made (bonus point!). Now, the rings. I am firmly Team "Battered" Onion Ring over Team "Breaded", and these absolutely delivered on the team battered. They were almost chicken-fried, -- super craggly, crispy, and deeply satisfying. These were the star of the meal, so do yourself a favor and order them - but you need a friend to share them with, its a heavy portion. They also have great lunch specials, most around eleven dollars. I got the pot roast with two sides, refried beans and mashed potatoes with gravy. After indulging in the onion rings, I was not exactly starving, so I ended up with enough leftovers for another full meal. The pot roast was nicely shredded and tender, and the gravy was rich, flavorful, and worth every calorie. My husband ordered the chicken fried steak, (he's obviously on a diet!), with fried okra and mac and cheese. The mac and cheese was forgettable, but everything else on his plate was solid. Service was friendly and efficient, and this place definitely fills up at lunch, so plan accordingly. A very good roadside stop, and proof that sometimes the best meals happen when you are just out running errands.

This was my first experience with this restaurant. The customer service was reasonable. I went through the drive thru. There were about 4 cars ahead of me, and the line moved at a reasonable rate. I placed my order with ease. It was filled accurately and timely. No complaints at all. The ambiance is average. It's convenient and available. No surprise there. The food was extremely underwhelming. I ordered fried chicken, fried fish, cabbage, and broccoli rice casserole. The chicken was extremely bland. It was also exceptionally greasy. The fish was also extremely bland. It was beautifully cooked. Very appealing. Unfortunately, it lacked flavor. The broccoli cheese and rice casserole had a weird taste. It was not cheesy, nor did it have a saucy taste. It was just weird. I believe it needed cream of chicken or a better quality of cheese and by all means, more flavor (i.e. salt, pepper, something). The cabbage had a nice peppery bite to it. It was overboiled and could have used a pinch of salt or smoked turkey flavor. Of my order, the cabbage was the best. Small tweaks to the menu could make this restaurant a highly sought-after eatery. This was not southern, down home, or soul food category of food. It was very, very, bland. Check it out for yourself. It almost feels like they're made from completely different recipes or by different people. They just didn't match the quality of the chicken. Located in an old building, it's simple, unpretentious with friendly staff, good service and very reasonable prices. I thought the prices were unbelievably low. The food was good. The eggs were perfectly cooked. The hashbrowns were just like I wanted them, extra crispy. The only food complaint is the busicuit was to sweet for my taste.

You can tell they care about quality, and that always makes a difference. The staff was super sweet and welcoming, which made the whole visit feel even better. Service was quick without feeling rushed, which I appreciated. The place itself has a cozy, chill vibe that's perfect for a laid-back lunch. We had to bus our own table to sit and eat
