We are huge fans of Pop's pizza. All of the pizza joints in town have their own flair for sure but we love a classic cheese from Pops. We've tried other kinds and have been pleased - which is huge since everyone in our house has different tastes for pizza. Pops has been the trusted place when that craving arises! Pops can be beat for value. There are few places that could make a big chicken parm dinner and bread for only 5 bucks. The same goes for most anything else of the menu. Pop's is no glamorous or some fancy wood fired pizza endeavor, it is a very basic local institution that has employed hundreds of Cheshire kids and serves decent food at very reasonable prices. If you want the best pizza that you ever had, drive to Modern in New Haven, but if you are in Cheshire and want to get a decent pie, run by decent local folks, stop at Pops. read more

Pop's Pizza is a great little hole in the wall pizza and grinder place. Having come here since I was in high school, it has a special place in my heart. Maybe not the best pizza in all of Cheshire, but the most special to me. Recent updates and renovations have been a welcome change, updating their chairs, booths, and even adding bar-like seating next to the front window. Most frequently, I order a spaghetti dinner with a giant meatball, and it's really giant, like 3 meatballs put together. Firm and well-seasoned, it's my favorite meatball of all the italian/pizza places in Cheshire (and I've tried most of them). My NEW FAVORITE ITEM is, without a doubt, the Mac and Cheese pizza. They are starting to be really innovative with their pies and the Mac and Cheese definitely satisfies my cravings for both pasta and pizza! Buffalo chicken pizza is also really good, and their old-fashioned super-thick crust pizza is something you won't find at any other places around here. It's topped with a hearty sauce and parmesan instead of your typical mozzarella. Grinder and calzones are also super generous and will last me 2 meals. Prices are super affordable and you get a lot for your money. But be warned, they do not take credit or debit cards, CASH ONLY. Pretty good pizza. I got a large cheese and large pepperoni for $25 so it's reasonably priced compared to some other pizza places in the area. One reason I didn't give it 5 stars was that I had to wait 45 minutes for a pick up order. It was Friday night so I know it's busy, which is a good thing for a local place like this cause it tells me the locals like it, but I figure 30 minutes max when I'm picking pizza. Not a big deal and I'm sure they might have just had a slow night, so I'll rerate when I go back soon read more

Love this pizza and love the fact that they are extremely supportive of the Cheshire Community. We've taken pizza out on several occasions and have also eaten-in a few times as well. My husband is a pizza snob and we have tried every place in Cheshire plus a few places beyond to see which would be our main pizza source, but Pop's is by far the best pizza in the area. The dough is always fresh. I cannot think of one time that we have had a bad pizza there, and we get pizza there pretty frequently. The prices are very reasonable to boot. What makes Pop's special is their old fashion pizza - Sicilian style with grated parm (it does not come with mozz unless you ask, and I prefer it with fresh garlic). Been in cheshire three years and this is the first time I chose pops over mr B's or Grand Apizza(moved) or rosinnni's. Won't do it again. It isn't horrible for ten bucks but it certainly isn't passable as four star pizza. Trust me, I am not comparing it to anything in Brooklyn, NYC or new haven. It just isn't very good. Makes sense for a little league pizza party or eight year old sleep over. I wouldn't serve this to my parents or in laws for that matter. Large pie for take out. Cheap. I have been eating at Pop's Pizza for over fifteen years, and it's still as delicious today as it was back then. I have not found 'old-fashioned' pizza that is comparable anywhere else - totally delish!!! They also have amazing daily specials. I just recently discovered their 'mac and cheese' pizza which is not as heavy as it sounds, and is delicious when dipped in marinara for an extra zing. Pop's also sells pizza kits for like $6.50 which includes the dough, sauce, and cheese for a medium sized pizza. I've made them at home twice now, and both have come out awesome. And the stuffed bread, specifically the buffalo chicken bread, is HUGE, and good enough to be a meal! My best friend brings one to every get together we have and it is always the first food to disappear. The only drawback of this place is that they are CASH ONLY, so be prepared for that! read more

I went to Pops last week around 2 in the afternoon and ordered 2 slices, and while I was waiting, I watched the guy that makes the pizzas try and kill a fly (I couldn't tell if he succeeded or not) with a water bottle. This was on the table on which he makes the pizzas, he swung the mostly empty bottle down on to the table right in the middle of the flour or cornmeal that is used to round out the pizzas on. I hope he didn't kill the fly because he made no attempt to clean the table and went right back to talking to the 2 girls that were in the back room with him. Needless to say I asked for my money back and when the guy that was waiting on me asked why I told him, he at first gave me a funny look so I said, "am I wrong" and he replied "no' with a very embarrassed look on his face. we ordered pizza there once and thought it was ok as it was recommended when we moved to Cheshire as the "IT" place for pizza. We just tried to order pizza and were hung up on literally 3 times in a row. When another employee answered, my hubby was livid, and asked the girl why the guy hung up on him. She was oblivious. He asked who it was, again she acted oblivious. He then informed her we would NEVER be getting pizza there ever again due to their lack of good or adequate customer service. I tried this place for the first time in years. I went there twice for take out and got into an argument with them both times. The first time was partly my fault. I called the order in and did not know they do not take credit cards and had no cash on me because I was expecting to pay with a card. Not a big deal and they were fine with it allowing me to take the order and come back a few days later to pay the cash., The second time really upset me. I decided to give them another opportunity even though I prefer to pay with a credit card. I went onto their web site and printed out the menu. I ordered one small white broccoli with garlic ($7.75) and one small with sausage ($7.00) according to the prices posted on the web site. Then when I went to pick it up I got charged $18.43 including the tax. When I complained to the girl about the prices she said," You must have an old menu!" I said, "No, I just got those prices from your web site." She made no apology and no offer to honor the prices posted on the web site. When I got home, I re-checked the menu I had printed out to make sure I wasn't wrong and then called the manager to complain. Same exact story. He could not have cared less and said "I guess they haven't updated the web site prices." What upsets me most about this place is their hypocrisy. They want to present themselves as being "old school", so they don't take credit cards. (but of course all know why they don't take credit cards). Well if they truly were old school they would honor their posted prices on their web site. They may try to claim the web site is obsolete but that is also false. When I called my order in I was referring to the web site and the person taking the order said their is no web site, but the manager quickly corrected him and said it had recently been put active again. As far as the pizza it is nothing special unless the like cardboard crust. If you do then this is the place for you! read more
