I have been going to this location for years and it used to be my favorite pizza place in town due to the variety of 'by the slice' options that were presented here. However, this all suddenly went south about a week ago when I was told that my little brother and his friend were 'kicked out'....more specifically one of the managers told them to "Get The 'F' Out!" (with the whole F word being yelled). Background: My brother (who I was the guardian of) and his various groups (boy scouts, lacrosse team, baseball team, etc.) typically bring their entire team in to this location and drum up A LOT of repeat business for 'Pop's', they have even been complimented (on multiple occasions) for being respectful and always cleaning up their plates. We decided to go back to Pop's to find out exactly what the situation was, as I never want to be one to assume what a couple of 14 year olds are up to. Upon our arrival we tried to talk to the manager who directly kicked them out, but he was unwilling to talk with us... instead he sent another employee (co-owner, I believe) out to speak with us. It was at this time that the owner told us that the manager was "having a bad day and that everyone deals with that in a different way..." that the manager "didn't like how my brother and his friend were smiling" and decided to erupt. I kid you not, the owner literally told us that the kids got cursed at because they were smiling at someone who was having a bad day.... My recommendation, don't bring kids here and don't support this business yourselves for that matter. The staff has gotten increasingly unfriendly and the service is subpar from where it was years ago. I can't imagine ever yelling an obscenity at children, especially long-time, good young customers who have brought endless amounts of business. It's definitely worth it to try other things on the menu besides pizza. Best meatball I've had and some of the best wings around. They take their time prepping your food, but it's worth the wait. The staff is also very friendly! read more

Some of the best pizza I've had in Chapel Hill at very reasonable prices. Staff is very nice and pizza is made to order and always ready within 15 minutes. Need to try some other menu items but I'm a sucker for their pizza. Also, don't listen to Terry H., he clearly doesn't know what good pizza is and would be better served going to a chain read more

Nice folks.. Good pizza.. Great sandwiches. It's not fancy, but Pop's has pretty delicious pizza at affordable prices. Definitely try the chicken parm sandwich, too. I'd say Pop's and Artichoke & Basil are the 2 best pizza places in Chapel Hill. read more

I gave this place 3 tries, and each time, they disappointed. Sauce was greasy and too thin. I was overcharged and they were rude. The food is so disgusting, the place is not clean, I don't see why anyone would eat here. They must have customers because they don't seem to care to improve in any way. WARNING! DO NOT PATRONIZE THIS PLACE! GO TO MAGONE'S LOCATED ACROSS THE STREET! If you order takeout and you find they had made a mistake and call them to let them know, you will get an extremely argumentative guy, who takes great pleasure, to tell you are wrong and stupid. He does not allow you to speak nor wants to listen that you only wanted to tell them they had made a mistake. I asked for his name and if he was the manager. His replies by saying he was busy and hung up the phone. Two years ago, I gave this place a 5 star rating for their outstanding service from Mike who was then their manager. Mike understood what it meant to give customers great service. Unfortunately, Pops no longer provides nor cares about good customer service. They're nice when you are there. But all hell breaks out if you let them know or try to let them know that something is not right with your order. My wife and I are super host with AirBnB. We've will no longer send or recommend Pops Pizzeria to our many AirBnB guest. Instead, we'll recommend them to Magone's, where they have outstanding Italian food at reasonable prices and outstanding customer service. This pizza is great! They use very tasty sauce and best of all is the cheese, they use alots of cheese. I tried this supreme pizza with pepporoni, ausage, ham, and veggies and it was amazing, I had about 3 slices. If you're the type of person that's more into the pizza dough, then this wouldn't be right for you. The crust is just ok and it can really handle all the toppings they pile on. Great food, huge portions, good pricing. They have the best NY-style pizzas in town, hands down (better than Franklin Street Pizza and Pasta, which I also love). Their pretty standard, local-owned pizzeria fare is pretty good stuff, but for that, I prefer Randy's. Normally, I'd give this place 3 stars, but the space inside and the additional, Mediterranean menu items push it up to four. The gyros and falafel are a good addition, and were deemed "pretty tasty" by those in our group who ordered them. When I walked in I was impressed with the variety of by-the-slice pizzas available for lunch... But maybe that was part of the problem. Rather than getting the basic pizza perfected, they offer a lot of options. I got a slice of cheese, and it was pretty forgettable, flaccid pizza.... One of the worst I'd had in town. The crust was droopy and flavorless, the sauce seemed a bit too sweet, and the cheese had a mediocre taste to it. I actually didn't finish my slice... And that's pretty rare. Even bad pizza is usually good enough to finish, but this one just didn't seem worth the calories. The soda from the machine was badly mixed and seemed too sweet; ditto for the sweetened ice tea. Overall, it just felt like this place needed more attention to the little details. On the positive note, the place felt warm and friendly. I just wish the pizza itself wasn't so forgettable. read more

We have loved Pop's Pizza since they opened in the early 2000s. They are a family owned business. They were one of the only restaurants open during the extended power outages subsequent to the ice storm of 2002. I remember the grateful people lined up out the door, ready to pay in cash. There are 100,000 of these places in the Northeast, and I don't miss them. When I moved down South, I thought I was leaving them behind. They're standard, run-down, cheapo, formica palaces. No decor, no class, all with the same menu, same standard ingredients & menu. Mostly greasy, low in flavor, high in starch, little taste or food value. That's why when I finally got into Pop's I was bummed. it's the Edible but greasy greasy greasy. Pizza crust is dry with no bread flavor. Nothing to drink but soda. Update: Pop's has updated their menus. In addition to pizza, they now have wraps Though most of their food is high in calories and not particularly healthful, they do have some very tasty items suitable for vegetarians, especialy for lunch. I really enjoyed their falafel and their veggie wraps. Well-prepared, generous portions, very tasty. Let's hope they continue having more delicious veggie and healthy options! Pizza slices and garlic knots were delicious!!!! I had a veggie slice, which was soo savory. My boyfriend had the barbecue chicken slice and a pepperoni, which we also loved. Owners are extremely rude and disrespectful. They do not enforce masks. Dining room and bathroom were filthy. A woman came in with no mask and then came close to where I was standing. I asked her where her mask was and told her to back off. At which point the owner told me that it's his job if he chooses to enforce masks and told me not to come back. I love this place. My brother and I went here for the first time and ordered a meat lover's pizza. It's was so good that we went back a couple of days later and got two more pizzas so my husband (the biggest pizza lover of all) could have some after work. He really enjoyed it, too. I live out of town and was in the area for a dr appointment. We couldn't find anywhere to eat and stumbled upon Pop's. I love a good pizza place. This was not that place. The food and service was terrible! The slice of pizza I had (honestly I'm not sure what was on it, it just looked interesting) was not good. Even my mom didn't like it. Neither of us finished out garlic knots. And to top it off, as we were standing in line to order, a woman told "pop" the carbonation was out at the drink fountain. By the time we left around an hour or so later, it still wasn't fixed. Next time I'm in the area, I'll search a Little harder for a different restaurant. read more

Although they don't advertise it to the passersby, this place has a limited but fabulous Mediterranean menu in addition to traditional pizzeria offerings. It's a mile from our house so we come here often. The Gyro Platter is our favorite, and comes with a generous portion of gyro meat, greek salad, tzatziki sauce and pita. All for $10.99. Most nights it's enough for my husband and I to share, along with a few of their wonderful garlic knots. What a gem to have this place so close to home! read more

This place used to be awesome, but then for whatever reason it got really bad when the new pizza place in weaver dairy opened up, not to mention the staff got stranger..and hit on my girlfriend and made her very uncomfortable and forgot she order food. Pop's is a delicious restaurant! It is better then your average pizza joint, and I highly recommend trying one of the subs. It is easy to get a good meal for cheap here. It is a casual spot and you just order at the counter and refill your own drinks. The eggplant parmesan sub is awesome! read more

Visiting a friend in Chapel Hill for Football Saturday, and he introduced me to Pop's Take out. (He also Treated) Ordered the following: Lasagna, XL Cheese Pizza, and Greek Salad. Lasagna was hearty and flavorful. Cheese Pizza hit the spot, as did, the Garlic knots and Salad. Ample portions. Friendly service and our items were awaiting us upon arrival. Pop's is one of my favorite restaurants. It is actually on my speed dial because I crave their food at least once a week! It's not close to me, but I will drive a half hour extra for their falafel or New York style pizza. I've got much closer places near me, but I gladly drive further for Pop's food. Other local falafel places are bland and under seasoned. Pop's falafel is homemade and hand ground. The spices they add are perfect and scrumptious - this has flavor! Something has gone wrong the last 3 times I ate there. I am DONE. Today: was charged $15 for a plate of spaghetti during Lunch. LUNCH!!! While my beloved ate while I patiently waited for a half hour for my pizza. They never even made it. Last time: Just given a bowl of spaghetti, No bread.... nothing... full price of course. Before that: Burned both my bread and pizza and SERVED THEM TO ME!!!! Full Price!!! This place is hit or miss. The one guy knows what he is doing and makes a good slice. Today, the service was poor. Called in for pick-up and made it all the way home, then looked at my order and realized they'd forgotten some of my food. Guy at the counter didn't seem apologetic and I had to prompt him to give me my food, even though I'd called and explained the situation before heading back there. Pop's is fantastic. Being accustomed to *real* NY Italian (and being an Italian myself) saying I'm selective on Italian places is an understatement. This is no special, fancy schmancy place but the food is EXCELLENT! The baked ziti, meatballs, pizza, gyros, ALL of it is incredible. Since their recent remodel, the decor is more reflective of the type of food you'll be eating. Only thing I'd suggest is switching from Pepsi to Coke!
