Boudin

I saw this place on my morning commute and was in a bit of a rush. I decided to try it out anyway (happiness first right?). The staff alone was enough for a 5 star review!! The drive through is a very short line that can have cars backed up onto the road quick. A lady came out to get my order started and once I pulled up they told me my price and I was on my way! So quick and awesome southern hospitality at its finest! This is the first time I tried a boudin Kolache & it was pretty good! The bread was so fresh. I also got a dozen donut holes and a chocolate donut. I will 100% be back! Go head Port Allen Bakery!

Sign of a good breakfast!

This little bakery is an amazing place! It is located next to the famous River Queen Drive In on Highway 1 in Port Allen. It is very popular with the locals, businesses, and people passing through. I frequently stop by on my way to field locations since it is very close to the I-10 exit. It is located in a small building, with a drive through on the side that seems to always be in use. So, what do they offer? All sorts of donuts and related sweet breads, wonderful muffins, brownies, cookies, and in season, some of the best king-cakes I've ever eaten. They have other types of cakes as well. Not looking for sweet things for breakfast? They still have you covered. There is a selection of kolaches that include my favorite, the boudin stuffed one. There are also biscuits and biscuit sandwiches. It is easy to walk in and order, that way you can see all the baked goods in the case before making your selections. You can also check out the packages of muffins and cookies that you might want to take home or share with your coworkers. If you are in a hurry, there is the drive through, which conveniently has a menu hanging over it. Come visit this little local hidden gem in Port Allen, and you will thank yourself later! The staff will be glad to load you up with baked goodness, and hospitality to go along with it...

Boudin Kolache

Stopped here for a quick breakfast to kick off along road trip. The staff was so friendly and the food was delicious. For under $12, we had a donut (with a surprise bonus one in the bag), a bear claw, two sausage and cheese biscuits, a boudin Kolache and milk. My only regret is that we didn't order more Kolaches.

Delicious donuts, fast friendly service. Sausage biscuit wasn't very good. But, next time I'll try the kolaches.

Window service had a shitty attitude, felt rushed, would no recommend to anyone having a bad day. Something definitely needs to be done.

Crispy Donut

Having thought I've eaten through most donut shops in BR, I was surprised to learn the existence of…read moreCrispy Donut, which has supposedly been around for the better part of the last two decades. Located along Highland Road just outside of the LSU campus, this Asian-owned biz has been hiding behind a popular Chevron gas. station. It's not much to look at from the outside, but fans of donuts and kolaches will be able to enjoy something here. The inside is quiet and has limited counter seating and goes heavy on the LSU decor. It feels like a cafe that is dated but still hasn't finished the renovation. I imagine the idea is to pump some gas and get a donut, which has a staple format for so many BR peeps. The menu will always elicit a double take from me, with its awkward placement of numbers and the fact the stickers are so large that they had to abbreviate kolache to "kolach" and jalapeño to jalap. What's not condensed is those prices, which show nearly $40 for a dozen boudin kolaches and $12-20 for a dozen donuts. The breakfast croissants are $44 for a dozen, which just feels very steep. If a donut maximizes the taste, then the value is sometimes justified. However, trying their glazed, sprinkled, cake, fritters, and chocolate donuts, I can't say they're exceptional. The jalapeño kolaches and boudin kolaches were solid, but I'm not likely to order them again. The fact they still have Yoohoo in the fridge, is a nostalgic throwback I can appreciate. The owner is a sweet Cambodian man and is welcoming for every customer. Any attempts to use a credit card will incur a 50 cent surcharge for any purchases less than $5. Parking is limited to the gas station spots, but it's never crowded enough in here to be an issue. Lastly, every pastry shop is guilty of this, but the mini flies stuck inside of the display case is a massive turn off. ___________ (#1) Thank you, Yelp app.
