The brisket is tender enough to cut with a plastic fork. The smoked sausage is perfect. The Hogzilla sammich, which is pulled pork and sausage with bacon, is big enough for two normal people, or one of me if I haven't eaten lunch. They do have beer in cans, and tea, both sweetened and unsweetened. The staff is friendly, and they know what they're doing. I saw one girl slide up a perfect quarter pound of brisket without even looking, and when she put it on the scale it was right at .25 pounds. Don't worry about the fact that it's in a strip mall. The rub on the turkey was delicious! Nice Smokey flavor. The staff was super kind and the facility was clean. The pickles are bomb! I thought the regular sauce and spiced sauce tasted the same. Tried the mustard sauce but didn't enjoy it, but I have never liked a mustard based sauce, maybe one day I will find one I do. Overall you should definitely give this place a go! Porter's is the latest place to put bbq on-the-map in Spokane. Being a native S Texan, I was jazz'd to learn that a "real pit bbq" joint was coming and was eager to try it. Well.... I can say "I tried it," and should probably leave it at that. I read all the four and five star reviews and was left curious. But, nevertheless, I humbly submit my critique. When you walk into Porter's, you're struck by the cleanliness, or maybe it's the "newness." It's starched clean and bright. But, also totally lacking that bbq joint "vibe" (smoky meat smell). Maybe it's too new still. We ordered some sliced turkey, brisket, sausage, a baked potato and some baked beans to-go. When we got home and served, it's painfully obvious, we should've had this meal AT the restaurant. The turkey was tender and flavorful, but dry - even after being dunked in the liquid butter bath they offer. The brisket (both from the flat and point) was also tender, but dry, with an overpowering black pepper hit from the bark. The flavor of the meat itself, however, was on point. The sausage was the big disappointment. It tasted like a fat, smoky hot dog. Seriously, I've had sausage from the supermarket with more (better) flavor. The baked beans, oddly enough, was the shining star. They're quite good; a little sweet, a little spicy. Great flavor. Service was friendly and easy to work with. Prices are higher than I expected, but I guess it's in line with the economy. I will have to give Porter's another chance (and update my review, if need be) but, again, dine in rather than to-go. Decided to try this place for lunch, so here are the good and bad points of it: I ordered a 1/3 of brisket on a bun. You can choose if you want it toasted or not, which is nice. You also get to choose lean or marbled brisket, and if you want it sliced or chopped. All good things. Not so good: my 1/3lb of brisket tipped the scales at .49lbs, much more than I wanted. Which would be fine, but they charge by the pound. This was just lunch, so that was a lot of brisket, and it came at a cost (more on that later). The brisket was pretty dry, maybe because I chose the "lean" version, but it also seemed to be overdone. Thankfully I didn't order any sides, just a drink to go with the sandwich. Imagine my surprise when my total for a sandwich and drink was over $20. The bbq sauce is really good, but I'm not sure I'll go back after this experience. read more

They even ask whether you want lean or marbled, and God bless you lean people for helping us use the whole animal! I got the larger portion of brisket (3/4 lb? not sure), baked beans, pickles, and a small order of banana pudding. The baked beans, pickles, and both BBQ sauces were standard, but good. Not holding that against them. I don't love their banana pudding aesthetic with the pudding and whipped cream mixed together. I like them separate, but that's personal preference. The service was quite friendly despite my showing up close to close. Ambiance was nice and modern, the space clean. Again, I can't tell you how relieved I am that there's a legit BBQ place in town! I know BBQ. I know how to make it, was taught by my ancestors, and I've dined frequently at some of the best BBQ restaurants in the country including in Texas, North Carolina, Kansas, and Georgia. And FINALLY, there is GENUINE BBQ in Spokane! Happy dance! I hadn't heard about this place until last week when I drove by, and was surprised see this new restaurant in a shopping center! So, I decided to give it a try! It was a great decision! These folks know what they are doing! The servers, Kobe, Anka, and Cruse we fantastic! They were patient and pleased to accommodate my requests to taste and "try before I buy"! I tasted the pull pork, brisket, link sausage, chili, baked beans, and mac n cheese. First, the meats were tasted without sauce. All were cooked perfectly: smoky, tender, juicy, seasoned, and with the 'right' amount of pull. I purchased ribs without tasting 'cause they looked sooo good! They were prepared Kansas style with an amazing rub! The brisket and ribs had a perfect red smoke ring, and were delicious! The baked beans were sweet with a big black pepper kick. They were good, but a little high on the heat for my taste. I was least impressed with the mac n cheese. It was pasta shells swimming in a cheese sauce. Visually and physically too loose. It needed real cheese and even more shells to tighten it up. Also tasted the chili which was different but tasty. It's made with brisket instead of ground beef. I think this would be excellent on a baked potato, which by the way they serve. I may try that next time. I also purchased molasses bars for dessert. They were good and reminded me of ginger bread with a sweet thin glaze. Banana pudding was also on the dessert menu, however since I had just made some at home, I passed. I may need to try it next time as I was told the recipe it is authentic and from the owners, so I suspect it's really good! While I ordered everything to go, I would not hesitate to eat in. This place is squeaky clean! No sticky tables nor condiment containers! And you won't leave reeking of BBQ smoke like some bbq restaurants in Spokane. Bottom line, the food is delicious! The serving sizes were perfect. The prices were competitive! And the service was excellent! Sending sincere gratitude to the owners, who bring BBQ skills from South Carolina to Spokane! I heard this was the best BBQ in Spokane so I decided to try it out for the first time. I ordered the brisket, St. Louis ribs, mac and cheese, and the coleslaw. The mac and cheese is absolutely amazing!! They could open up a mac and cheese shop strictly for that if they wanted. My roommate and I also loved their brisket. The coleslaw was a perfect mix, it didn't have too little or too much dressing so it was still crunchy and delicious. Would 10/10 come here again. Insanely delicious BBQ! I highly recommend trying The Jonny sandwich. It's a perfect combination of brisket, pulled pork, and smoked bacon that's incredibly tender and flavorful. The sauces on the table complement the meat perfectly, especially the spicy BBQ and mustard sauces. The buns were soft and didn't overpower the meat. For drinks, I chose to skip the soda fountain and headed straight to the separate dispenser for the sweet tea. I added some of the complimentary lemon slices that were next to the tea. The tea was sweet with no strange aftertaste, and it complemented the BBQ very well. And last but not least, the banana pudding was simply delicious. The graham cracker finish at the bottom was a nice surprise, and the pudding itself was creamy, rich, and had an authentic banana flavor. It's definitely the best pudding I've ever had. Well. We have ordered ribs from Porterʻs and liked them well enough order again. We called ahead and placed our order of ribs because they are known to sell out at the Spokane location as the food is prepared in the Tri Cities and trucked to Spokane. They pleasantly took our order and told us when to pick them up. We arrived hungry to get our ribs, which they had just sold to the previous customer. They said sorry, we just sold the ribs you ordered. They gave us some beef and charged us $48 and threw in a carton of dessert. The ribs are good, but not good enough to continue giving Porterʻs business. They should not have taken our order if they werenʻt going to fulfill it. I would prefer my food prepared freshly here in town anyway. read more

My wife and I stopped in here last night and met a friend after work. We split the half-rack of ribs which were very good. We ordered the medium size mac & cheese and two beers. The mac and cheese was pretty bland in my opinion. I ended up putting a lot of the spicy BBQ sauce on the mac and cheese. I knew I should have ordered the jalapeno poppers instead. The staff was very attentive and friendly. The beer prices were great for a restaurant--$4 for a "good" beer. I had a hazy IPA and my wife had the No-Li Wrecking Ball which is always good. read more
