Italian Beef combination dipped with peppers. Cheese Fries on the side.

Listen, this is my first time back home in Chicago in 3 years. I had to get me some Portillo's stat. At the door at 10am. I live on the east coast and all due respect to Chaps beef in Baltimore and Tony Luc's in Philly. This is the beef Mecca. Find me something better than a combo dipped with peppers. You can't. You don't review Portillo's you celebrate it. If you're in Chicago order you one. Best beef ever!

Checked out the new Portillo's and had the Italian Beef and a Maxwell Street Sausage--both were delicious! Classic flavors and definitely hit the spot. Only downside was the ordering kiosk; it has a ton of options, which is nice, but it felt a bit time-consuming to get through. Would still recommend, just be ready to spend a little extra time ordering!

Portillo's keeps getting bigger & bigger. This is average size. I had a Rodeo Burger with Fries. The staff and service is wonderful.

Love always the food of Portillo's. New location is very nice, service has been great . It gets very busy , because it's so good . Plenty of seating indoor and outdoor.

My brother has been telling us about Brasas for a couple of years and this time we finally stopped. Now we can't wait to go back! One of the best things Chicago is there are these little hole in the wall places that have excellent food. This place reminds us of the Depot. Another little hole in the wall on Roosevelt but the chef came from the 95th. My brother said the tortas are the thing to get here. Although he also said breakfast is pretty good. So tortas it was. Two of us ordered the chicken Milanese and one carne asada. When these are served it looks like a mini loaf of french bread. They are huge. The bread one of the most important components to any sandwich was soft and pillowy. The milanese was crispy and not overdone. The carne asada was juicy and flavorful. The tortas come with lettuce and tomato. I finished mine first and started eyeing my wife who gave me the touch mine and sleep on the couch for the next month look. I could have and wanted to eat more but then again there is always next time. And maybe breakfast too. These tortas were outstanding!

Very flavorful with a good chew and the perfect heat with their giardiniera. It's one of those sandwiches that once you pick it up, you can't put it down. Putting a whole salad on a hot dog takes what could have been a guilty fast food meal and makes it feel fresh and dare I say, healthy? The peppers were such a great kick and the I also appreciated that the relish was NOT sweet! Both a pickle spear and dill relish on the same dog? Yes ma'am! My friend who grew up here had the protip of getting a cup of cheese for the fries, why not? I just ate so many veggies! We also got an Italian beef with sweet peppers to split. I have had Italian beef before, so this wasn't a new flavor, but it's been awhile, and when I tell you I didn't remember the beef being so flavorful. I think next time I would get it with hot peppers, but the sweets weren't bad. Get a lemon ice if it's warm out, it was smooth and tart and a great finish to a great meal to round out my Chicago trip!

Everyone behind the counter was so friendly and knowledgeable. I had to try one of their sandwiches and got the salmon po boy at their recommendation. It was really well seasoned and super fresh with a very generous slice of fish on it. Definitely coming back for another one next time I'm in the area! Carnivore in Oak Park…read more This is a butcher shop and fish market that also sells sandwiches I can't really decide if the old time decor is by design or if the place is really needing an upgrade. I actually think it's the latter. It's a lot smaller than I imagined with very limited seating. We went here for the grilled salmon sandwich. We had seen many online reviews saying it is amazing. They make the sandwiches right in front of you, so you know that they are fresh. We took our sandwiches to go and by the time we got them home , they were cold. The fries traveled well, but again they were also cold bu the time we got home. The grilled salmon sandwiches were very good, but not great , and I really would have loved to have eaten it warm. Prices are on the high side for the butcher meats. But I guess you should expect that since they are an artisanal butcher. I did not like the look of some of the meats in the cases. Would we go back? Maybe to try the Bacon Burger. But we would definitely recommend eating your food in the butcher shop and not taking it to go. I have just found out that that are moving into Carnival Grocery in Oak Park.

Today, our experience was less than stellar. I always select "no green pepper" because I'm not a big fan of them. This time was no different, but when I opened my box, my sandwich was overflowing with green peppers. When I called to report the error, the girl who answered the phone was clearly annoyed by my call, and told me "my cook says he didn't put green peppers in." I was a bit put off by this, but instead of trying to argue about whether or not there were green peppers in my food, I asked if they could just send me a new sandwich, and was told to go through Grubhub. I assume this is policy, which is fine, but then she hung up on me before I could say anything else. So I go back through the app and reorder, again selecting "no green pepper." I called to confirm that my sandwich would NOT have green pepper, and to say that my call was not well-received would be an understatement. I say I'm just trying to make sure the peppers are not on there this time. She goes "yep, no green pepper," and then hangs up before I can say anything else. We are considering looking for a new cheesesteak place, or finding a recipe to make them at home. See attached photo of a sandwich that the cook declared to be free of green peppers.
