If you've been to a Portillo's, you're aware of the very long lines. You're in luck with this new arrival in Grapevine. When we visited on Saturday afternoon at one PM, we were amazed to be first in line to pick up a delicious hot dog and beef sandwich. These items are legendary as is Portillo's in Chicago, which only recently expanded to the DFW area. What we remember most from this visit might surprise you. When we stopped at the pickup window, we received a heart felt "I hope you enjoy the food." His name is McKinley, not to be confused with William McKinley, the 25th President of the United States. When so many team members sound mechanical when thanking us for our business, McKinley was earnest. I don't think the manager could have said it better. I got takeout from Portillo's. I got the Chicago dog and the Italian beef sandwich, with onion rings and fries. When I went to pick up my food, I saw that the restaurant was spacious and clean. Lots of families were eating inside and there were clearly marked shelves for picking up takeout orders. My Chicago dog was tasty and I was full with one sandwich. Looking for something different and a good burger. Since I gave up on Mooya when the changed quality of ingredients and packaging, hadn't had a good burger in awhile. So tried Portillo's. (Never been to Chicago. So, new to me.) Thank you for putting my faith back in the bovine! The bacon charburger was the best id had in a long time. And imagine a burger hot enough to melt the cheese! The bun was a delight from the usual. So fresh! And loved the crinkle-cut fries with just the right amount of seasoning. Congratulations Portillos. You hit it right out of the ball park. Just opened with a fair sized group of new customers, service was pleasant and relatively quick. you can order from a machine and wait to pick up your order or you can do the same from a real person. we opted for the person giving us a bit more time to look at the menu....hot dogs, chicken, beef, salad. I opted for a spicy chicken sandwich and he had the original beef. we picked a table and waited. they call your number....'number 9 welcome to grapevine' and up you go to get your sacks of food. what a mess! my sandwich dripped their special sauce all over the sack I had ripped open to get to the sandwich. up to get lots more napkins and drinks. sandwich continued to drip. taste ok. should we clean up? looked like they expected us to but difficult to collect everything with no trays. sadly for the money spent, I feel that many other local options are as good or better, provide more service and many are cheaper. a comment too on the parking situation at this restaurant and the others crammed in beside it....too little room! read more

I normally go to the one in Frisco. I have been going here for years, but mainly from the California Anaheim location and Frisco. It's literally my favorite restaurant, but I recently moved closer to this particular location, and I'm very sad I did. Service was very poor in comparison and the sandwich bread didn't seem cooked. They even charged me for someone else's meal! They refunded it, but just expecting that charging my card twice is ok is not cool. It has me rethinking my favorite restaurant. read more

Ordered via Grubhub and did not get all of my order. Nothing can be done by Grubhub when the receipt clearly states that all the items I PAID for are there. They are not allowed to open the bags to check the order. In such an instance I would think the vendor ie Portillo's would make sure the customers order is complete. They did not. completely unacceptable. After reading the response from Portillo's I went and attempted to "give them feedback directly" their amazing customer service automated system said sorry you have to go to Grubhub. What? Your store packed the order, Grubhub conveyed the correct order to your store, Grubhub delivered the bags your employees packed. Your people placed the receipt on the bag stating the order was complete, which it was not. Grubhub drivers are STRICTLY FORBIDDEN from opening those bags. So please tell me exactly what Grubhub could do to help me in this scenario? read more

As a longtime fan of Portillo's, I feel the need to address a couple of the comments. First, being from Chicago, I've been to Portillo's hundreds of times. I've gotten fries every time and they've never been greasy. Someone said there were better local options. While there are plenty of other restaurants around, Portillo's offers food that nobody else locally does with one exception, Weinberger's, which is also very good. I don't expect everyone to love Portillo's, but don't post inaccurate information. read more

Initially this restaurant was growing on me but today 2/21/2026 I had a not so good experience. First off I placed my order through the drive through which had no other cars actually the inside of the restaurant looked bleak. I felt rushed and was asked approximately every 5 minutes if they could take my order even though I specifically informed the order taker I was reviewing the menu upon finalizing my order two separate people were attempting to take my order (still no one else was in line) so I informed them I would pull up to the window. Greeted by the order taker apologizing for multiple people taking my order which I appreciate. Verified order then received order from manager. When I reached my destination and started to eat my food noticed by my daughter and my French fries were more salt than French fry. I had to pour our fries in a metal strainer and continuously shake them for over 10 minutes to remove the majority of the salt. The fries were as salty as sea water if not saltier. I did contact the restaurant management and notified them of this. As a diabetic with slight hypertension as salty as these fries were would have been considered a health hazard. Note to customers request fresh no salt French fries. I definitely will not be returning, being that I'm from the Mid West I'll wait until I go back to the Chi and visit Portillo's where I know for a fact the food will be prepared right. read more

Really tasty Italian beef, hot dogs and sausages. We ordered on the app and then drove from the airport Hyatt to pick it up. It was ready when we got there. Very well packed and the order was exactly right. The restaurant itself was well laid out with an open feel. Very clean with several convenient kiosks for ordering if one prefers. We had eaten here once before and was not impressed so we thought we would give it another try to see if the previous experience was just a one off. We ordered our food to go. I got the spicy chicken sandwich and asked for cheese and bacon to be added to it. I did not get the bacon. My chicken sandwich had a fish flavor to it and as someone who is not big on fish to begin with that turned me off on the sandwich. Eating from here again has not changed my thoughts on the food which is that it is basic. I can go to Wendy's and get a better spicy chicken sandwich, and it would not cost me as much. Just sat in the drive thru for 30 minutes and we were the only car there. Their iPad to take orders wasn't working so we sat for 10 minutes while the young girl helplessly tried to get it to work. Then once we got to the window we waited another 20 minutes because they supposedly gave out our order to the wrong car when we were the only car there. Make it make sense. LOCATION Portillo's is a relative newcomer to GV - developed as part of a concentration of restaurants in the old Payton-Wright Ford space on the north side of SH 114. Neighboring spots include Firebird's, Velvet Taco, Son of a Butcher, and others. Portillo's/GV is one of many outlets of the Chicago chain. ENVIRONMENT - 2 out of 5 You can order either via digital kiosk or at the counter (there's also drive-thru). Inside, the decor seems very familiar - think TGI Friday's but with a gas station theme. You'll see "old" gas station signs, an STP banner, etc. But it all seems too familiar and has been done many, many times in other restaurants. (Almost like a highly-themed casino hotel restaurant.) Portillo's comes complete with classic rock from the 1950's and 1960's. Seating is a combination of booths and 2 and 4-top tables, with outdoor seating. Booth seats are unfortunately very hard - you won't want to sit around for longer than you need to. (Maybe that's the point?) FOOD - 3 out of 5 Portillo's bring Italian beef and hot dogs to DFW. I **guess** these are supposed to be authentic, but from my recollection of eating in Chicago, the menu is a little on the safe side. I got an Italian sausage sandwich with sweet peppers, along with a small side of onion rings and a large drink. (Hint: get the small drink since you can refill at the drink counter.) The sausage was a bit on the dry side, but the sweet peppers helped make it more flavorful. The rings were pretty good - not as greasy as rings tend to be. But make sure to grab 5 to 6 napkins at the drink counter - you'll need them. Even though my order was for dine-in, it was delivered in a bag, not a tray. That seems sloppy, unless **all** dine-in orders come this way. OVERALL - 3 out of 5 Portillo's is a departure from the typical burger & fries or Tex-Mex choices that dominate DFW. My impression was the the food was average - neither bad nor memorable. The interior is familiar to the point of comical - and the music caters to diners in their 70's and older. (Maybe some music from the 1970's and 1980's to make it "newer"?) I know there are a lot of folks that love Portillo's and that's fine. My first impression was that once the uniqueness wears off, that the chain will have to work harder to keep customers coming back. Fast casual/QSR is a cut-throat market, especially here in DFW. Grapevine is littered with the remains of once popular concepts - CPK, Red Robin, Carabba's, Hoffbrau, and more. Portillo's needs to up their game to stay on top. read more

Waited so long for one to open near me! I have eaten at every single one that has opened in the metroplex. Service was fast, restaurant was clean and the food was awesome. Location is very convenient and super clean. Staff are all knowledgeable and give excellent service. The drive thru line moves super quick which is great. But the food is just nasty if you get it to-go. I ordered the Italian beef with the gravy on the side. Even taking that extra step doesn't protect the sandwich. They wrap it in plastic paper that after a 8 minute car ride just sogs up the whole sandwich. It's as if you dipped the whole thing in a big cup of water. Just gross. Yesterday was our first visit to Portillo's. All three of us ordered hotdogs but next time I want to try one of the beef sandwiches. Lots of variety and everything looks so good. We were especially impressed with the onion rings and would definitely have those again. The fries were also good. If you're going to have a hotdog, I would suggest ordering a jumbo dog rather than two dogs since each is a little skimpy in the bun. And next time, I also want to try a piece of cake. They have both chocolate and lemon and they both looked delicious. If I have any complaints about the restaurant, it concerns the cleanliness, or rather the lack of cleanliness. We were there around 5 o'clock in the afternoon and had trouble finding a halfway clean table. Since they weren't busy, there was no excuse as to why they didn't have someone on staff cleaning up. There were lots of crumbs on the table as well as on the floor. Not very appetizing. Before leaving, I ducked into the women's restroom and its cleanliness also left a lot to be desired. Too bad because if the place had been cleaner, I would've given the restaurant five stars. Hopefully things will have improved on our next visit. read more

Underwhelming and the upselling was pretty off putting. They need to be clear when there is an extra charge for things like the cheese sauce. With all the hype I was expecting things to taste better but we tried the chicago dog, chili cheese dog, burger, fries, and onion rings and the only thing that we really liked were the onion rings.
