Portillo's has always been one of my favorites for Italian beef. I was very disappointed! The Italian beef had absolutely no flavor! I cannot believe that they must've changed their recipe. Portillo's, I must commend you for how the drive thru service has been improved. The attendants no longer accept cash, just some for of plastic and that seems to make a big difference. I ordered a catering order for five jumbo fries and five llarge cheese sauces for a graduation party. Unlike the typically crispy fries that this restaurant puts out, we received five trays of soggy french fries that no one wanted to eat. Naturally, the cheese sauce went wasted. A waste of over $100 for me over some Portillo's cheese fries. an extreme disappointment and completely inconsistent with prior orders. I would have complained directly to the company, but I was unable to find such an option when I logged into my account. Thus this public complaint. read more

The Oswego location is my closest Portillos and i noticed that this location changed something about their fries. They are terrible now! I went back multiple times to see if it was just a fluke but nope, definitely different. Maybe different cooking oil, who knows. Has anyone else noticed the shrinkflation in Portillo's Italian Beef sandwich? I ordered a dipped big beef with sweet peppers on Wednesday, 11/13/2024 and the amount of beef was dismal. Way less than I've had before, and this isn't the first time I've noticed this even though it's the first time I've written about it. I always say, if you need to increase the price, I understand, but don't try to save money by scrimping on the portion size. My sandwich was more bread and sweet peppers than beef. This is how you start losing customers. One time, you can write off. Two times, a pattern is developing. Three times, strike-three, you're out. read more

Forgot to do this review! We were there in August. Our friends just moved to Oswego. We have been so excited to go to the actual restaurant because all we had tried was the sandwiches we had shipped to Ohio! The restaurant is amazing! It's huge and it smells unbelievable in there. Didn't even realize it was a hot dog place cuz all we had tried before was the beef sandwiches. So we got hotdogs and milkshakes! I got the chili cheese dog and it was delicious!!! My husband for the Chicago style dog. He said he was so good!! The fries were decent. The chocolate milkshake I had was really good but the chocolate cake shake that my husband got was incredible. He said it was the best milkshake he has ever had. He has been craving it ever since! read more

My first time trying Portillos and it's one of my favorite fast food chains now. From the hot dogs , fries, and dessert-so good. The inside is cool and retro with ample seating. There's my combo sandwich after one bite, looks pretty skimpy, when I pulled it out of the bag I thought they got my order wrong. I actually thought they gave me hotdog until I opened it. It seems the Corporate Weasels now running the "Big P" have read SOME of these Yelps. The Beef is still a shadow of its former self, and the Sausage looks (and tastes) like Johnsonville's most mediocre. It's more like an "Italian-Sausage" flavored Hotdog (Italian Sausage should NOT have "torpedo ends" like a brat or frank-IYKYK). The burgers have improved to the point they are edible. (But only if they are made fresh. If you go at off-times, they sit in the tray, dry out and then they are crap) The hotdogs are still insipid-they seemed to have dumbed them down and use a frank nowhere near the garlic strength of a classic Chicago frank. There are Vienna signs in some Portillos, and if they are using "V" franks, they must be not be the regular variety. Now the new "Garden" dog is seasoned MUCH more like a classic Chicago frank. It might be heresy to say, but it's much closer to the real thing than the bland torpedo they foist as their regular dog. Try the garden dog with all the regular accoutrements. Only 350 calories to boot. It's 100% "veg", so it identifies as a "Salad"!!! Even better with a beer... read more

Daughter is lactose intolerant. Ordered a chopped salad for dinner with no cheese. They put cheese on it. Son in law ordered a bacon cheeseburger no mayo. They put mayo on it. It was dark and we were at drive through. We paid for two meals that weren't eaten. Highly frustrating. I guess it's whatever they feel like serving you. Mybe you'll be lucky and get what you thought you were paying for. read more

On Saturday May 11, 2024 I had a catering order placed at this location. I called prior yo my event to verify that delivery and set up was within their range. I was assured it was and I actually added another $200.00 to my order. The day of my wedding reception, my order was delivered by Door Dash and minus the au jus for the beef. I called and spoke with a young lady and she said "Oh yeah, the door dash guy forgot it". After getting angry she said she ordered another Door Dash and that she couldn't guarantee when it would get to my home. The manager offered to credit the Au jus. Are you kidding me. No phone call back, no resolution ,no apology nothing I spent over $600.00 and had a house full of hungry people and the attitude was Oh well, Door Dash's fault. I did not want Door Dash to begin with. I would not recommend spending hard earned money for bad customer service and apparently not one Manager who can talk on the phone and deal with problems. So wrong!!!!! I suggest get catering somewhere else read more

Avoid this one. Wendy's has gotten my order right more often than this place. From employees not knowing what's vegetarian on the menu to sending you home with the jumbo hot dog on what's supposed to be a plant based dog. Unwrapped the "plant based dog" sticker to find the very obvious jumbo dog. Packed or not, some of us have food allergens we try to avoid, wouldn't kill you to slow down for 2 seconds and see what you're doing. read more

I can go months without eating at Portillo's. In the last month we ordered drive-thru 3 times. All 3 times they have forgotten something. First order was a missing hotdog, I was able to get a refund. Second time they didn't add chicken to the salad order. I know I ordered a grilled chicken Cesar salad. Got all the way home to realize there was no chicken on the salad. Today it's small but they did not add straws in the bag for drinks. Thankfully the order was correct. It's really getting annoying. I'll wait a few months to go back. I'm done for now. read more

My mother got this hunk of plastic in her sandwich last night from the Portillo's on Rt. 34. We tried calling several times, were put on hold, then hung up on. Tried calling back, no answer. Our next call will be to the health department. Hopefully no one else choked on this last night. Of course she didn't finish her meal and we won't be returning for any more meals. Thanks Portillo's for the added plastic and absolutely zero customer service. Portillo's used to be one of the best restaurants in this area. New ownership has it in the dumps. They will not answer their phone, there is no quality control anymore, and no management to speak to. We won't be back, except to bring this in for a refund. This goes to customer service after the order was taken. Came in to the one in Oswego last night. Girl at the register who took our order was busy but did a good job taking the order and receiving us, after that we had to wait for the food like everyone else. And so it happened they forgot half my order. Gave me 3 bags (and for what) they were half empty and incomplete. After multiple times of calling (8 times) getting hang up on, calling and connecting with service center for ordering .... No one really knew what to do... or say...mmmhm ok. I get the mistake of not bagging everything. But how do you get a call and you don't know what to do or no manager to transfer to. You owe me half the order or refund. read more

The beef sandwich was good but the amount of beef was a tad light and they charged $1.50 for half the giardiniera that should have been included in 'extra giardiniera'. At $3.99, the regular-size onion rings were overpriced, and they were at room temperature and dry. This has been a consistent problem with all the Portillo's locations I've reviewed in the last year and a half - somehow they are unable to properly manage the preparation and delivery of even the simplest of orders. For this kind of formulaic fare, you should receive what you ordered and have it freshly made and served in a timely manner at the appropriate temperature. I got a strawberry shortcake in case this turns out to be my final visit to any Portillo's location. They're pre-made and have been very good in the past, so my expectation is high despite all the others problems with Portillo's. read more

Worst ribs. I do much better with homemade and recipes off the web. But the staff and bathrooms are nice.

I love Portillo's but this time it was quite disappointing- the croissant does not taste like croissant at all, the beef sandwich, fries and onion rings were soooo greasy, it was almost inedible. My son went to the drive thru at this location (which is the only location any where near us and it's a 15 min drive each way). They forgot half of our food in the bags. He tried checking before leaving, and he thought he felt everything in the bag but once he got home, we realized 4 items were missing. I tried calling and no one answers the phone. It rings and then hangs up on you. He actually drove back to that location to get the rest of our food, and he had to pay for what was missing! By the time he had driven home and driven back, it had been 30 min and he left the receipt at home. Here's the thing - he tried checking the bags before he left BUT he really shouldn't have to! Also, 4 items is alot to be missing! Portillo's isn't cheap and we ended up paying twice plus my son driving an hour for THEIR mistake! FIX YOUR PHONES TOO! read more

I've been eating at Portillo's for 45+ years. I remember my dad taking me there as a toddler. I even worked there for a while in high school. Until the last four or five years, I would have given every single visit to Portillo's I've ever made 6 out of 5 possible stars. Lately, though, the food quality has gone down hill fast. In the last year, I've stopped in 6-8 times and have been disappointed every single time. The service has been slower, but I give them a Covid pass on that - as they are probably short staffed or adjusting to the barrage of online orders and what not. The one thing, though, that is unforgivable in my book is that they seem to have changed the hot dogs. The last two times I went the flavor was bland and the casing lacked any snap. I can't confirm that it's a different dog with 100% certainty, but Portillo's is running out of chances to serve me a hot dog as good as they were before. Otherwise, there's a Buona Beef down the road that will be getting my money instead. read more

Food is always pretty mid but it's almost guaranteed that your order will be wrong (no matter how simple). You almost have to speak very slow and ask every person you encounter to read the order back to even have a chance to be correct. The wait times are always long but it feels almost insulting for the food to take that long AND be wrong. Pretty worth it to make the drive to literally any other store. read more

This is the closest location for Portillos near me. The problem here is the service. I've consistently had bad service and food from here. Examples: Drive through forgot 2 large fries last time we came here. We also ordered bacon burgers which are $2.50 extra each burger and neither came with bacon on it. Recently, we have been making a farther drive to Batavia to get food from up there. It is always consistent there and we've never had any problems. Update: The manager did send us redemption coupons because of the no bacon from the previous order. It took a little bit over a week and a half to receive it. read more
