Really surprised by our last 3 trips here. Was a fan but maybe we will now split between between some of the other places. 2 weeks ago - ordered 2 dogs and a small fry. Had a straw in the bag as I was checking but didn't really think about it. Got home, saw that I was charged for a large drink and didn't receive. Oh well. 1 week ago - ordered the chopped salad and got only lettuce. Maybe got someone else's order. It was good but not what I ordered. Oh well. Yesterday, ordered a dog and small fry for the wife and a burger and small fry for myself and 2 drinks. Took 14 min to get our food. 14. My burger was cold and my wife dog was kind on on the rubbery side. Oh well. I get we have CV19 and all of that but they are missing the basics now. Went through the drive through (which I always end up regretting) and it took more than 20 minutes to get my order. My fries were ice cold and not cooked all the way. I filled out the survey at their website and asked to be contacted - we will see what happens. They are always SO SLOW.....and really need to get their stuff together. I expressed my dissatisfaction of having to wait so long to the person/women who handed me my order through the drive up window, and she was quite nice about it and said she was sorry. Placed order online thru Uber 1.5 weeks ago. 52.00 for 3 Chicago hot dogs, 1 beef n cheese w/sweet X dipped, 2 fries. No drinks. No fluff. We received someone else's order. Called right away. They said we'd get our credit for full order, email would come from uber. Ok fine. Never came. We called back 2 days later. Spoke with someone else, that's ok too. She had uber call us. Said we'd get full credit. Received credit for uber $11.00. We paid, portillos didn't check order, sent it with driver. Not uber's doing. Each time I go to this location, there is something incorrect in the order and I need to drive back around to get it right. I am normally quite happy with the local portillos, but the past 2 times they haven't been able to get my simple order correct. 1st time asked for a double cheeseburger no bun with ketchup and mayo. You guys need to come up with better communication for Doorsash itemized catering orders so that there is a sticker in catering and plan ahead to make the order ready on time. I find it sad that an order isn't even close to being ready at a location that is not that busy. Once again I am here at this location for a catering order and this time the ineffective catering/delivery/online order staff failed to put the order in altering other staff to begin the order before the pick up time. As a result the order is ridiculously late and like before so few people have any clue of what's going on. It's incredible how misinformed the staff is. Placed an order via the app. Waited in the parking lot for 1:10 min for the order which came out wrong. Avoid! Update, after all that, got home & found the bread missing from the salads, then a different t type of dressing was included, which broke open in transport, & then when I did sit to eat the salad, I ate half before I realized it just tasted awful, has to throw it away. Portillos's was the worth the drive, we had a few closer options for food but we had to have Portillo's. This visit was a good one, we were faced with a variety of food options, more than just the usual. Bratwurst and a meatball sandwich were just two of the new options, I however didn't opt for either. The friendly order taker person warmly greeted us but with so many options of food, I still needed a moment to make the ever so important decision, what to order. When we were finally ready we were directed by the again friendly order taker person who stands on the customers side of the counter whose job is either to take our order and then direct us which cashier to see or just direct us if none of the cashiers are with a guest. The extra person is who they are really, are just there to help direct traffic. The decision was made and the wait began. A quick wait gives us just enough time to watch the hot dogs being made. Even though a hot dog was not part of our order but stopping to watch the hot dog making person is a must. How the hot dogs are topped with mustard, onion, peppers, pickle, relish, tomatoes and celery salt so quickly is always something to see. Having to pick up food from both the Barnelli's pasta side and the Portillo's side has always been a task that baffles me. Why can't it be simplified? Why can't any food if food is ordered from both, be brought to one side, why make the customer do all the work, as far as getting the food, I am the customer and I am always right. My opinion of how your multi million dollar company should operate is right. Getting settled and taking in the decor and enjoying our surroundings it made way for a perfect setting for a wonderful evening full of laughter, some reminiscing and good food. The numerous employees that make this Portillo's run helped to make this visit to Portillo's Oswego a special one. I'll be back again. read more

Ordered a salad with no chicken and the Guy making salads put a whole chicken breast on top. I told him I couldn't eat it and he asked if he could just pick it off. I had to explain that I would be sick if I ate the chicken and he had to remake it so he proceeded to talk about me to his coworker and laugh at me. Some people have real allergies and you're just going to pick off the thing they can't eat making them sick? Really disappointed in this location. read more

I'm so done with this place it's not even funny anymore. I came here an hour before they closed and I ordered two meals. It was nice because the line wasn't long for once. They didn't have enough staff, so I waited longer than expected. After waiting longer than expected for my food, I realized once I got home that I received the wrong food. The Italian beef was not how I ordered it. It was gross and the meat had a weird taste, and then on top of that they gave me an Italian sausage instead of a hot dog. When I tried to call back, they were closed so I called the next day and a Hispanic girl answered & told me that I need my receipt in order to have her fix my order. So I get my receipt and then she says the orders erase every night so I can't see it in the system. She then went ahead and took down my email, phone number and name to send me a free entrée and a drink coupon.. I never received a coupon. I've checked all of my email, including my spam. So I called today to let them know I did not receive my email and the young guy says he doesn't see anything in the system to where he could give me a refund or any type of coupon. Then he proceeds to say I can give you a free dessert.... There is no way I am going to except a free dessert after I paid $25 for two meals you all got wrong when it wasn't even busy. This place is always overcrowded with slow service. The last straw was visiting here on a Saturday night in October 2018 and we literally waited 45 solid minutes to get our food (hot dogs, chicken sandwich, and a kids meal). I went for my birthday and it was really crowd. Not really enough tables for my family. The place is dirty. I needed to ask somebody to clean the tables. I like this place but lately they have Been going down hill, for instance the beef sandwich is tasting different and has a little more spice to it. But my main reason for this review is the dumb staff, they goof around, talk to people in cars for 15 minuets, and always mess up. I'm not a huge fan of Italian beef sandwiches... UNTIL I ate at Portillo's! I'm from Los Angeles and I keep hearing from my Chicago relatives that I HAVE to eat at any Portillo's in Illinois and get their Italian beef sandwich. And they were right! Their Italian beef sandwich is served with French bread drizzled with their au jus sauce, which gives the sandwich a crispy but soft & juicy texture.. which made this Italian beef sandwich a winner in my opinion. It's topped with sweet or hot peppers all for $5.45. I saw the size of the sandwich and at first I was thinking the portion is too small, but it was filling lol. Oh dear, do I love some Portillo's cheese fries, dipped italian beef with hot peppers, and a chocolate cake shake. It really says something about the place when the parking lot is so packed you have to park at the Chili's across the way, and the drive-thru line is wrapped around the building. It's absurd! Great food, but the prices are a little expensive. Over five bucks for an italian beef...but it's so worth every penny. They also have hot dogs, tamales, cheeseburgers, ribs, chicken, and salads. Delicious. When I lived in North Carolina, my husband and I had their food shipped to us. It's that good. They send you the beef, their bread, hot and sweet peppers. If you order the hot dogs, they will even mail you the tomatoes they use! It's the entire Portillo's experience. At this specific location, the employees are nice, the restaurant itself is clean, and regardless of how busy it is, you can usually get your food pretty quick. Props on that, Portillo's. We've catered through them a few times as well. Beef, ribs, and mostaccoli....always a hit. The chicken parm over a bed of spaghetti...miss. Not so great. read more

Chocolate cake shake, choco-chocolate cake shake! It is seriously my biggest weakness! So delicious. I have grown up on Portillio's and they are just a staple here in Chicago. From their meaty Chicago style Vienna beef hot dogs, to their char-boiled chicken sandwich, cheese fries, and chopped salad, I have never been disappointed here! Any Portillio's you go to it is always busy. I have gone before at 8:30pm and there is still a line that wraps around the block. I don't know how they do it, but it's great to have one so close to me. Never let the lines fool you, Portillio's staffs a small army to make sure you're not waiting longer than 5 minutes. read more

We pull in Portillo's and since I am driving my Handicap friend we look for a handicap parking spot.... wait there's the front door where s the ramp where is the marked parking spot??? Oh wait there it is on the side of the building right next to (get this) the employee entrance! *picture attached* I do not know if they hire many handicap employees but how about a few spots for customers by the "customer" walk in door not very classy Portillo's. We find a spot close to the door (non handicap stall) and make our way through the maze that is Portillo's tables cramped and odd ordering and pick up locations neither handicap friendly either. WE place our orders, 2 huge beef sandwiches one with cheese the other (mine) with everything except sweet peppers. He grabs a table & I grab the food neither sandwich was marked but that is no big deal the big deal is that Mine had no cheese and it had sweet peppers WTH! I just sit down and eat it anyway, it was alright but not my particular style of Italian beef I prefer but still better than most. They also did not have free fountain refills why is this it cost $0.25 to refill a large cup the cups often cost more than the soda in these places. On the way out I was glad neither of us where in a wheel chair as the bathrooms where all the way on the other side of the restaurant in the most remote corner possible, I guess my biggest problem is that this is a huge chain and yet they have this poor lay out that is not only inconvenient for normal people but hell for the handicapped get your act together Portillo's read more

Ordered 1 large cheese fry and 1 large shake. took us 15 minutes to get it thru the drive thru and when we got it they were not fresh. This has happened before which is why i try the fries before I leave. Upon asking for fresh fries they told us to park in spot one where we waited an additional 10 minutes before I went inside and told them we were in spot one waiting just for some fries and didn't know if they forgot about us. She came back and said they still weren't ready. I waited an additional 5 minutes inside before getting fries. I should add that I worked here in 2017 and the customer service we had back then was great. After calling twice and receiving no helpful information, our order arrived 45 minutes late and the driver had the gall to stand there and wait for us to tip him. My pop was waiting so long that when I finally got it all of the ice was melted & it was watery. Then my fries where so soggy and cold it was disgusting! Placed an order with an on-line third party website for Portillo's. Paid on-line but then cancelled order after delivery times kept being pushed back. Money was not refunded by third party group. Called the Oswego Portillo's site the next morning and spoke to Diane and to the manager Tom. Explained what occurred and they agreed to fill my order. Those two individuals who took the call were very customer focused and will gladly come and go there in person to get my food. The young lady who filled the order when I arrived was also amazing and very courteous. Love great food, but just as important is great people that represent Portillo's. read more

TOO SALTY !!! The last few times, I would have to run my fingers down each fry to get all the salt off of em. I asked my friends in the neighborhood and they noticed it too.... Then the last time I was there, my burger was EXTREMELY salty!!! I'm going to give this place 1 more try and if it's still the same, I will stop coming.... I ordered the "Chicago style" dog and the Italian beef sandwich. Both were outstanding. This is the first time I've had an authentic Chicago dog and it's so much better here when made properly. Such a mouthful of flavor in every bite. I'm sad that I won't be able to get this caliber of a dog at home. The Italian beef sandwich is along those same lines: a superb sandwich only to be found in the region it was born. Such a great flavor. Order it with the hot peppers. I normally like to give places the benefit of the doubt, but this portillos is consistently the WORST quality of service food i have ever experienced. They ALWAYS mess something up on an order, take forever to fill orders, and once we get the food, it is usually not as good as the rest of the portillos out there. I am not sure how a Portillos can mess it up this bad, considering that every other location we have been to us delicious. Hoping they make changes soon so we can go back, but for now it's definitely Buona for us. read more

Portillos---you are a busy restaurant and people love your food. If you are busy at your site--DO NOT offer Uber Eats because you can't do it all well and it hurts your brand. Had Uber Eats tonight and was told 630 delivery and we just received the food at 7:25pm almost an hour later and on top of it, it's isn't correct and the food is cold. We watched as the driver sat there for over 30 minutes waiting. You are trying to drive more revenue at the cost of your brand. We called the site to find out when we can feed our children and have been on hold for 28 minutes waiting for a manager. For a company that prides itself on quality food and great customer service--you have greatly failed tonight!
