I am not a fan of Portillo's. I have stopped here ~5 times and never been happy with my choices. I have tried the burgers and the hot dogs and none of them have been better than average. My favorite is definitely the sausage, but even that is only "ok". The burger was way below average and I would choose just about any fast-food option over it. The restaurant has a nice feel and the food is better fresh, but it is still not on my list to return to. Staff is nice and that is probably the best part of the Portillo's experience. read more

Was lucky to receive a ticket for the preview and as a Chicagoland native can confirm this is just how you remember it. Ordered an Italian beef hot peppers add mozz and of course, cheese fries. This was my wife's and my first visit. Hotdog was good. Bacon Cheeseburger was average and does not come with onion. Cheeseburger was average and does come with onion. Why one cheeseburger comes with onion and the other doesn't does not make sense. French Fries are so-so. They lacked salt. Not great fries. Milkshakes need help. Sonic Shakes are better. Bottom of chocolate shake was all vanilla. Drinking straw collapses if you try to drink shake though it. Use a spoon. All around unimpressed. The service was okay but sometimes difficult to hear the orders called out. I can see how this place could be noisy if crowded. We ate at 3 pm and it was getting on the noisy side and was not crowed. Welcome to Tucson! We were invited to the soft opening and the food was delicious. Service was good especially since staff was training. Everyone was friendly and ambiance was Tucson all over. Returned yesterday and although the wait was long. Food was served at the right temperature. I do suggest to use the option of reviewing you order. It brings perfection to your table. A couple sitting near us failed to do this and their order had a few hiccups. read more

Very tasty. Tried the beef in a bowl, chopped salad and side salad. Wish they gave more bread with salads, but that is just a personal preference. Tried both the chocolate cake and eclair cake. The chocolate is the best. Servers were friendly. Very white inside, not my style. read more

Atmosphere is 40's-50's diner, nostalgic. Chicago style dogs and sausages, burgers. Food is quick and tasty.

First time here, the food was great, the bread was a little soggy from all the fixing, But it was still great.

I love Portillo's every time I've been in Chicago I would go every chance I could! I could eat their chopped salad daily. However, every single time I have gone to this location it has been just wrong. They cannot even get the salad right not even once out of the five times I have tried and it's just so very sad. Three times no chicken, I started asking for extra or grilled chicken paying extra just to get some because God knows I couldn't even get a sprinkle when I've asked for extra! Put in complaints and got offered free meals only to have those wrong as well. Honestly it seems like no one cares about training the employees to make to the recipe and being consistent! It's a salad! How hard can it be?! Tonight husband went in to get a salad and asked for grilled (it's the only way I know to guarantee I get chicken) and this time they gave me the regular chicken when I'm paying extra for the grilled. Then the clerk gave him grief when he wanted it redone. I am at the point where I give up. Perhaps a letter to corporate but, they obviously don't care. read more

Soft opening at El Con in Tucson on Feb 16th, 2023. Grand opening on Feb 21st. Ordered an Italian beef sandwich with cheese and hot peppers, was really, really good. Had a bite of a cheeseburger and it tasted like a backyard burger was really yummy. Fries were very crispy and tasty. Shared a strawberry shortcake and that was moist and delicious. I have waited for Portillo's to open and today we went for the soft opening. We have ordered online in the past and really liked their food so it is nice to finally have a place where we can eat there or order several to serve at home. We had an Italian beef and Chicago hot dog. The beef was super and the hot dog was very good with a seed bun and all the fixings. We got two pieces of chocolate cake to go. Got home and my wife said I could have both since she is not a huge chocolate fan. She decided to try a piece of mine and I lost my second piece because it was so good and moist. it is going to be difficult to not visit once a week. The place is very large, staff friendly and very efficient. read more

Growing up in Chicago, we would eat Portillo's about once a week. Then when we moved to Southern California, we would make our way to the Buena Park location whenever we could. Then moving to Tucson, we would visit the Phoenix area locations whenever we could. The food here is just as good as any of the other locations. However, the quality control and service were abysmal. We ordered at the drive thru and brought our order home. They had read the items in the order off when they handed it to us, so we assumed they had made sure everything was in there. Unfortunately, we were missing about half our order. So off we drove back to get the rest of our order. I walked inside this time and let the presenter know what happened. She asked me what we HAD gotten, and I asked if they could just make our order fresh since it had been about half an hour by this time and I didn't want to eat cold stale food because of their mistake. She handed the bag to the supervisor and explained what I told her, and the supervisor then had them make the missing items. She handed the bag back to me, and I asked if the other items were made fresh like I asked. She got upset and tried to argue with me, saying that the other things "tended to last a long time." I once again asked for it to be made fresh because it had been quite a while since we originally ordered and I wanted everything to be fresh the way it was supposed to be in the first place. This was apparently a major inconvenience for this person to have the rest of the order made, but she fulfilled my request this time. So after an hour now, we got the food we had ordered and got to go home and eat. No apology, nothing from the supervisor for their mistake. This was a far cry from the service I've experienced at every other location I've been to read more

Every time I have gone, the people have been incredibly disrespectful and rude. Each time, the girls in the drive thru have been very sassy and mean to us and one girl fat shamed. Ordered chicken tenders. They arrived tasting like freezer burn and some were raw. Ketchup was the only condiment readily available, had to stand in a long line to get ranch/refills on drinks.
