I took my laptop to them and they couldn't fix it. Majorly kicking myself for not taking my laptop to them in the first place even if they still couldn't fix it because I would have saved money and the customer service is better than where I first went. For as long as I live in the area and maybe even if I move states or countries I'm gonna return to them for computer support. read more

NO NEW RESIDENTIAL CUSTOMERS Not a review so much as a comment: I just called to see if I could get some help with upgrading my Mac to add needed memory. The voicemail states that the business is no longer supporting new residential customers (only existing residential customers with support plans). I very much appreciated the clear message so I didn't waste time leaving a voicemail and waiting on a return call. Now back to Yelp to try and find someone else. read more

Crazy fast response time! We had a simple hard drive replacement and the staff provided us with several options (giving details on what each would cost and performance). Would we use again? Heck yes we would!! read more

I have a 2013 MacBook Pro with a CD drive that was starting to slow down considerably, presenting me with the beach ball of doom with just about every action I tried to take. Plus, my battery was no longer holding a charge, so I was tethered to my adapter. This is the time at which I buy a new computer. But you can't get one with the CD drive anymore, and I still use mine for my outdated exercise videos and movies on the plane. So I consulted Joseph at Portland ComputerWorks about a tune up. He recommended I increase my memory, replace the battery and get a solid state hard drive. His pricing came in at under $400.00. He also cleaned the interior and tightened the hinge for the screen. I love the result! This machine should go on now for at least two more years. It's like having a new machine! I do not live anywhere near Portland ComputerWorks, but it was Joseph's appraisal, manner and trustworthiness that made me leave my personal grid. I won't go anywhere else in the future. read more

My husband, Kip has had several instances, (Laptop, Desktop, Hard Drive, Optical Drive, Directory/Boot-up), requiring services from Portland Computerworks and has had exemplary results each time. He's dealt with Trevor each time and when relating his experiences at the shop to me he consistently refers to the visits with adjectives like honest, straightforward, knowledgeable, responsive, reasonable, successful, effective. He's usually a bit skeptical and hard to please, but each of his visits have resulted in better-than-expected results. He has been especially pleased with Trevor's willingness to explain in 'layman's' terms the procedures and options to correct his issues. No matter your location in the Metro area, he would recommend this shop as 'worth the drive'! Thanks, Trevor, for helping to make my husband's day a little better. read more

I was advised to seek out Joseph at Portland Computerworks which oddly is not in Portland at all. Unable to find, "TIGARD Computerworks" I stumbled into the workshop just two blocks North of Pacific Highway on Greenburg. Joseph was nowhere to be found. There are TWO businesses here and as luck would have it, I also needed the services of Dustin at PROX WIRELESS (see review dtd 4/13/15) . Short version: Cell phone battery issues & wireless internet hardware problem...BAM... fixed. Cell phone wizard, Dustin advises Joseph is a brand new Dad and will soon have serious sleep issues but "Trevor" will get my laptop unlocked from my impatient, self inflicted blue screen of death. OK, if Dustin says, "Trevor is a laptop wizard"...good enough for me. For Dustin has proven he is THE MAN for cell phone stuff. I should add I am a tech Dinosaur. My frozen laptop is now a dated HP windows 7 machine, but is also my comfortable shoe and I've always been able to fly it fast and with few interruptions. But THIS time, I was stuck in the mud up to the windows and barely able to get out without drowning. The long version takes at least two beers (available on request) but the short version is Trevor saved my data, my favorites, my pics, my real estate documents, and prevented me from having to learn yet another version of Windows. And he did so at a fair price. I can only imagine how important this would be if I had a business with a similar problem...and if that's YOU.... well, you need that data and your functioning equipment back... pronto. He only charged me $ 9 to hit it my old laptop with his special laptop hammer, $ 50 to know WHERE to hit it, and $ 10 for not lecturing me about the porn on the hard drive. A bargain at $ 69 total. And while he was perfecting his HP hammering, I was shopping in vain for a USED similar windows 7 machine. And those are HARD to find...and much more than $ 69 IF you can find one. So if you want your laptop overhauled, new timing belt, plugs and wires, tire rotation, new fuel injectors, transmission fluid changed, don't want to buy a new laptop (with an entirely different OS), and don't want to be lectured about your craigslist surfing habits..... Trevor is your man. (I was just looking for FIREwood....honestly....that darn auto complete). Now, anyone want to buy me a couple of beers and hear the LONG version? read more

So happy that I found Portland Computer works on Yelp. I was seriously going to take my Mac Book Pro to Apple. Trevor saved me over $500 alone on the screen replacement. Trevor repaired my cracked screen, did a tune up and added 2 more gb to my laptop that was running slow for under $200. He is very friendly, professional and had my computer repaired quickly. I will definitely refer friends to PCW They did an amazing job!!! Thank you so much! Michelle G read more

I'm not sure why I keep going to the "Genius Bar" before having Joseph & Trevor actually fix "the unfixable"! This was my 2nd Mac that I was told by the Apple Store that there was nothing they could do, except to send it to California for replacement. Yelp needs to add a 6th star for Portland Computer Works! I'd use it! Issue was more than resolved by a new drive, and I got a great deal on some refurbished gear while there! read more

My wife's Lenovo T430 laptop stopped functioning all of a sudden. Some of the keys on the keyboard had not been working for a few weeks. I called Lenovo and they told us the laptop was out of warranty and would have to be shipped to them for a price range of $175-$575, depending on what needs to be fixed. I looked up computer repair shops in the portland area and came across "Portland Computerworks". I was encouraged to try this place because of all the good reviews on YELP and I AM GLAD I DID. Joseph (the owner), did a great job and I highly recommend this place for any computer related problems. Joseph is very pleasant to talk to and he patiently explains each and every problem. For our laptop to be 100% functional, we had to get the hard drive, speakers and mouse click pad replaced. Joseph helped find cheaper (used) parts for the speaker and mouse click pad. He was able to get a good deal for the hard drive from best buy (price matched with amazon). Basically, he put in a good amount of effort to get parts of the laptop at a reasonable price, instead of simply buying brand new parts when not required. From now on, Portland Computers is definitely our go-to place for any computer problems and I highly recommend it to all of you. Give it a try and you may probably never go anywhere else. Hope you find this review useful. read more

I had a 2 year old laptop that all of a sudden one day wouldnt go past the Resuming Windows screen. I turned it off, took off the battery and rebooted it a hundred times. I then took it to the Geek Squad (BIG BIG MISTAKE) and dropped it off. I picked it up SEVERAL hours later for them to tell me they "think" the hard drive might be going but that it would take $200 to fix it OR they could send it out to Kentucky for 4 weeks. REALLY ??? I was devastated, I couldnt afford a new computer at that time and I had just started college that was100% based online. I was afraid I was going to fail all my classes, screw up my student aid and the cherry on the cake was that I would lose everything that was on that laptop to begin with. Then I called my sister to see if I could use her her extra laptop as a backup till I could afford a new one, she told me to call Josef at PDX Computerworks because she used to work with him and he was really good. I called that day and in less then 36 hrs Josef had got all my data off my laptop, replaced my old harddrive with a brand new one, reinstalled all of my data back to it and even through in some antivirus software for added protection. FOR UNDER A $100 !!! I WAS SAVED. Cant put into words as I write this review on my essentially brand new $100 laptop just how much Josef saved my life that weekend. He will be my GO TO guy for anything computer in the future and I am going to school for computer science so if that doesnt say something I dont know what does. THANKS JOSEF !!!! read more

Fantastic service! Portland Computerworks is a business you can trust and know your computer needs will be met and at a reasonable price. I've used their services twice now and both times they were spectacular. After relying on Best Buy's Geek Squad to service my laptop I purchased a little over a year ago to service my computer I am so happy I found Portland Computerworks. My first visit had a myriad of issues to address including my internet access being denied and finding as well as accessing some critical files that seemed to be lost and/or damaged. I scheduled an appointment online met with Trevor and we discussed the issues I was having as he did a basic overview of my laptop. Two days later my system was ready for pick-up and when I began using it I was thrilled to find it functioned again like it was brand new! The internet was accessible and my files were recovered and restored to my computer. My second visit (a couple months later) was due to an internet access issue again due to malware. I run Trend Micro on my system for virus and malware protection and I have it update everyday but the malware bug still hit my system and wouldn't let me access a browser (of any kind) on my system. I stopped by at 4:30 P.M. without an appointment and Joseph jumped right in to do a checkup. Unfortunately, he couldn't find the issue with the quick review so we checked my laptop in for a more thorough review and repair job. My computer was fixed by the end of the next business day! Once again, I picked it up to have it running super sweet! Trevor checked me out and explained I was getting hit with malware. He then showed me the likely culprit was accepting a software update from Adobe or Java. His explanation made sense as I have a tendency to accept the Adobe Flash update when it pops up (that are actually posers... stupid creeps!). Oops, my bad! The point is Trevor took the time to help me identify what was causing the issue so I could prevent it vs. having to keep bringing my computer back to them for repairs. I then received some great tips on internet service (since I recently moved from Colorado to Oregon) because I complained about my current provider to them. Joseph took the time to share some referrals and give a testimonial on what he uses and why. I love that these guys are so personable and willing to share tips on how to get the best performance from your machine. Great guys, great business, great service!!! I highly recommend Portland Computerworks for any of your computer service and/or repair needs. read more

I recently took my laptop to Portland Computerworks for a new battery and to have the screen replaced after reading good reviews on Yelp and found them to be as good as advertised. Good communication, fair prices, and even though their supplier sent the wrong screen the first time around still got it back to me in a week. Before I went to them I got a quote for the battery at Interstate Batteries and they wanted $99 and Portland Computerworks charged me less than half of that. Computer repair is like car repair, you want someone you can trust who is going to give you what you need at a fair price and get it done quickly without trying to sell you a bunch of stuff you don't need. For me, Portland Computerworks is that place. read more

These folks were fabulous: Communication via Yelp was the best. They had my laptop back up with a fresh new keyboard and good free advice about a reinstall of Windows 10. I'll definitely use them again when I have service needs for my PCs. Great service, communication and pricing. Big Thumbs up! read more

I think I found a new computer service person! I used to have a guy that I'd have to drive and meet somewhere. It is nice to have a nearby location to go to. I tried them out from a Living Social deal. IT was good timing, because my hard drive was failing. I realized that that wouldn't be part of the deal, and so in the end I paid more for the hard drive. Joseph was very professional and customer service oriented. The price was right as well. I will be back and do highly recommend! read more

I have used their services twice and highly recommend them. On both occasions they have exceeded my expectations. The first trip involved an impending HDD failure the day before an important presentation. They were able to replace my HD and restore all my programs and my computer came back looking better and running faster than when I dropped it off. I had a similar experience with a family member's laptop a few weeks later. The shop is clean, bright and inviting. The staff is knowledgeable, professional and welcoming. The service is prompt, thorough and reasonably priced. They went out of their way for me twice to meet a fast turnaround requirement. I would never go anywhere else. read more

Joseph and Portland Computerworks were fantastic! I came to them because my 2 year old decided to hit my MacBook Pro with his toy car. He cracked the LCD screen and Joseph was very helpful in getting me a quote to fix. He also recommended that I check with the Apple store to see if it may end up a better deal because his original estimate was lower than it turned out to be mostly due to the fact that it is a very new Macbook and the replacement screen parts were not very economical on ebay yet. Although I got the screen fixed via the Apple store, Joseph and I continued discussing my computers and I shared with him that I had another MacBook (circa 2009) that had a glass of water spilled on it about 3 years ago and has been sitting on my desk ever since (Apple quoted me $850 to fix and it was nearly as much for a new unit). Joseph encouraged me to bring it in and so I did. Much to my surprise and pleasure, Joseph informed me that it simply needed some corrosion removal and a new hard drive. After parts and labor, it ended up costing around $200. In addition to that, Joseph was able to salvage ALL of my previous documents, photos, etc. My wife and I had accepted we would never see that info again, much of which included photos of our wedding and our collegiate senior thesis'. What a great experience with Portland Computerworks! I can't say I look forward to having additional broken computers, but when I do, I know where I'm going! Thank you Joseph! read more

I dropped my 1 year old laptop and it stopped booting up. I brought it into Joseph at Portland Computerworks to see what was wrong. I was very impressed with the cleanliness and the organization of his office. They even have the coolest office dog! A little puppy pug. Joseph was very clear with what was probably wrong and gave me an estimate for how much it would probably cost to repair. Two days later I got a call that my laptop was fixed and the final cost was exactly what he estimated. Very fast turn around time and great work. My computer was even cleaned and polished! It looks and runs like new. I highly recommend Portland Computerworks! read more

I legit cannot say enough good things about this place. They're fast, inexpensive, and so nice. They've fixed my desktop when my graphics card stopped working, replaced the screen on my old laptop, and helped my husband with some of his own display issues. I have a little bit of knowledge so tend to fiddle and identify problems but I'll always make the drive when I'm stumped and I'm in Vancouver. read more

This place is my hero!! I have had problem with my ASUS's disfunctional dc jack for a while. Before Portland Computerworks, I went to other place (aka B**tB**) to see if they can fix it, but all I got was unaffordable quote and crazy amount of time to do the whole processes, which I don't have. Anyways, took it to Portland Computerworks and got it done within a few hours (part is ready), and at an affordable cost!!! Totally recommend this place!!! I will bring my money here next time I need help with any of my computer works. read more

Amazing, just amazing. Twice I've gone to Joseph with issues I thought unfix-able, and twice he blew me away at an amazing price. He removed a virus causing the "blue screen of death" from my sister's computer in under 24 hours and made a computer that was 5 years old run like new. Most computer repair shops require a "per hour" cost that usually racks up pretty quick. Joseph will do whatever it takes to return a completely working computer to you at one flat rate + parts / software cost, etc. Incredibly reasonable and great customer service. During one of our diagnostic sessions, he also set me up with a domain name and great web hosting for a fraction of what getting it on my own would have cost. If you're looking at starting a website any time soon, don't look anywhere else. I will continue to use Joe's services for as long as he's in business whether or not I live in Oregon in the future and I highly recommend him. read more

Normally I would have attempted to diagnose the problem and replace the part myself, but I only had a general guess as to the possible cause. I was slammed that weekend and I needed my system back in service ASAP (before Monday). These guys saved my weekend! The problem was diagnosed quickly, fixed and returned the same day (A Saturday!). Portland Computerworks is easy to work with. I was able to watch while the problem was diagnosed so I learned a few things about my system. They will answer your questions. While the system was being repaired I was able to get the things I needed to get done - which was critical to me. They are professional, reliable, and timely. They went the extra mile (literally) and I was able to get my system back on-line that day. I highly recommend Portland Computerworks. read more

Brought an older laptop in for a repair of the power cable connection. They diagnosed the problem, were clear about the time frame for ordering the part and I really like that we set a cap on the amount I was willing to pay for the repair. That gave me the option to just replace the computer if it ended up being too expensive. On schedule, I received their call that the computer was fixed. I hate to use the term "affordable" when describing Portland Computerwork's technical services because it misses the point. Portland Computerworks provides GREAT VALUE affordably because they're so effective at troubleshooting and fixing tough technical issues, quickly. Less time equals less cost and these guys are really, really good. What they do charge, they EARN by providing smart, cost-effective solutions. They're up-front and transparent about the issues, time, cost and materials needed for the fix, and they're able to explain the why in terms you can understand and trust. For several weeks, our lenovo laptop cannot connect internet either through an Ethernet cable or just via wireless. I called Portland Computerworks. After listening to my problem, Trevor offered to take a look at my laptop's issue. I brought my laptop to their office. After some testing, he offered for a detailed diagnostic testing for $25. He suspected that the problem might be malwares blocking our internet access. If that is the case, they charge somewhere between $65 to $95 to fix it, including the initial diagnostic fee. I left my laptop there yesterday. He was able to remove the malwares and also performed extensive computer maintenances such as cleaned drives, window update installation, file optimization, etc. He also helped us install an anti-malware program to prevent future similar problems. I paid total less than $80 and brought my laptop home with instant internet connections today. I really appreciate their expertise and resolve our problems fast and charge fair and affordable rates.
