    Chicken noodle

I visited here the last i was in Portland and it was really cold so good time for some good soup. I got the same one as before, chicken noodle soup. The lady is very nice and helpful. They make it on the bland side so you'll need to add some salt but it has a good natural flavor from the ingredients.

Both of my favorite delis have gone away. So when I heard of this place and heard it was endorsed by my friend from the Midwest. I had to try it. I got the hot corned beef. I asked which was better and the lady said corned beef today because it is a fattier cut today. Well, that's darn good advice. The bread was really good but it was too soft for the sandwich. Perhaps toasted or grilled? But delicious rye bread. The meat was very tender and flavorful. Lots of it too. I've been looking for a sandwich like this for a while. Very friendly service. Definitely a spot I'll come back to.

A great quick bite with authentic food in he middle of downtown Portland. The lady was very sweet to recommend me the beef chili since they don't serve beef stew anymore. What of m orders, the smoked pastrami sandwich and the beef chili tasted great! If you travel, this is a perfect stop to get a bite before you head out of downtown to your Airbnb o next trails :)

Note the hours - they close at 7, not 7:30

We found the Portland Kettle on Yelp and wanted to get some hot soup on a cold wet evening. Found out the Yelp listed hours are not accurate, when we arrived at 6:50 thinking it closed at 7:30 pm but the guy said they were closing at 7pm and we could only get soup To Go (no other food orders or sandwiches). No cornbread was available too (usually included with soup) since it was the end of the day and they were out. I got the split pea with ham which had large pieces of ham and was tasty but we were disappointed by not getting the full experience/food even paying full price through the normal operating hours. My buddy got the lemon rice with chicken soup and said it was "ok." We ended up stopping in another restaurant to get more food/appetizers and have our soup with it. I think it would have been nice to get some extra soup or something since we missed the cornbread. ----TL;DR---- Pros: good tasting hot soup. Should warm you up in cold weather Cons: better come way in advance of closing or you might not get a "full order" of food. Closes at 7pm, not 7:30 Bottom Line: worth another try during early business hours, but wasn't impressed with my first visit.

Great menu options including vegitarian. Clean with plenty of setting. Sandwich soups and more. Friendly service.

Only street parking and, it's in a residential neighborhood. We chatted another 30 minutes after our meal and, didn't feel rushed to leave. That said, I've been here a few times and keep wanting to love it more than I actually do. The food is good, but with so many amazing brunch spots around Portland, nothing on the menu really stands out enough to justify the wait for me. The exception? The Bloody Mary. That thing is loaded and worth ordering every single time.

The onigiri is art. And the service is always polite and professional. Always. I was physically at the restaurant the night these one star people were there. From what I could tell sitting at the bar and observing the ID in question, it looked fliiiimssy even from where I was sitting. I kinda get both sides ya know , sure one person in the group wants a drink w dinner but dude just tough it out and have your dinner. Instead they popped off and all started fussing and being entitled and it was just gross. I was enjoying a fantastic dinner but that table was like trying to take the stage. I think they ended up storming out and one girl like stomped off and said she was keeping her cup !! lol I worked in food a long time ago. She had recommended it, was excited to share it with us. There was no single incident that explains what happened. Instead, it was a series of interactions that became increasingly dismissive, hostile, and ultimately humiliating. The first moment that gave us pause came when my friend's ID was returned so carelessly that it landed on the floor. The server then walked away without explanation, only to return and inform us she would not be serving us drinks. Being denied a drink was never the issue, though the manner in which it was handled felt abrupt and unwarranted. When we attempted to understand the concern, there was no effort to communicate, clarify, or review the additional identification we had available, including a passport. Instead, the interaction became increasingly adversarial. We were told we could cause the restaurant to lose its liquor license and were ultimately instructed to leave. At that point, it no longer felt like a conversation about identification. It felt like a complete breakdown in professionalism and basic respect. Before leaving, my friend calmly asked to speak with someone in charge. She was visibly upset, holding back tears, but remained composed throughout the interaction. Rather than attempting to understand or de-escalate the situation, another staff member escalated it further, becoming confrontational and referring to her as a "bish." I have worked in food service and understand that mistakes happen. Portland has no shortage of exceptional restaurants. I would spend my time and money elsewhere. 0/5

You can absolutely smell the fish and vinegar as soon as you walk through the door, which I think gives the place a very homey pub feel. I ordered a spiked peach Arnold Palmer, which I enjoyed (and it was pleasantly strong) and a glass of the house white, which was good for the price. Our server was very fast and attentive. To eat I got the tomato soup with a grilled cheese, which was absolutely fantastic. The soup was so creamy and flavorful, and I cannot imagine a better meal after spending all day walking outside in the rain. The fries were super crispy and I liked the batter. My partner and I shared some of their breadsticks, which were deliciously baked (fresh!) and came with a super refreshing basil crema and a nice tomato-y dip. Wonderful all. My partner ordered fish and chips, and was surprised to find that it is one large fillet of fish, not multiple pieces like you would typically expect. He said the fish was fine, but a little tough. Overall, a wonderful experience. I definitely hope to return. I highly recommend this place as a refuge during the cold winter months!

HOWEVER - This is very different than your box of Kraft. This is more like the kind of macaroni and cheese that you get at Thanksgiving. Ooey, gooey, and oh so good. The add-ins create endless options for an infinite number of creations. And truth be told, you could probably split one of these damn things four ways. Then you would all be in for like five or six bucks. But for me, I like to get a bowl all to myself, eat about a third of it at midnight when I'm craving it. Then, the next day, I'll have the next third for breakfast with a fried egg over it. And then I'll have the remainder for lunch. So I've basically sustained myself for 24 hours for 20 bucks and it's bloody delicious. By the way, I heartily recommend the chicken nugget add-on.
