Great service and clean and organized interior. I had alterations done. Unfortunately I gave them the wrong measurements. So when I got there they recommended I try it on before I left. So I did and the measurements were off. I gave them the wrong measurements. He found the correct measurements while I stood in front of a mirror standing on a a fitting stand. Once we got the right measurements he asked if I would like to pay just half of the original price I paid. Bought a new suit (old suit no longer fit) for a funeral service on a Saturday afternoon. I had just purchased the suit and needed alterations done on pants, shirt and jacket. Got to Portola Cleaners late Thursday afternoon and asked if possible to have the suit altered by late Saturday morning. They were able to get the suit altered and dry cleaned by late Friday afternoon. Good alteration job. I've always had my clothing altered at Portola Cleaners. They do good work and can do one day turnaround if needed. read more

I have been coming to this Cleaners for the last couple of years. They are great and there fees are reasonable.

This alterations place is the most convenient and closest to my home, so I've been a repeat customer over the years. They've had a new owner since about a couple years ago, and they recently hired an incredible seamstress. About half a year ago, the work was so-so, and it took a long time for the repairs to finish. I never actually saw the seamstress in action. From what I was told, the previous seamstress only worked 1-2 days a week. Because I had an urgent dress I needed to get fixed, I stopped by recently. Unlike the last few times, I was surprised to see that not only was there a seamstress present but how professional and knowledgeable she was. The new seamstress is very friendly, speaks English, and also explains the work that will be done. I forgot to ask her for her name, but she is awesome and did a fantastic job! My dress was tailored exactly to my needs. And It's not often you can find a highly skilled seamstress who communicates well. My husband was hesitant to bring his slacks to this shop because of the past average work. But with the new seamstress around, I'll convince him to give it a try next time. read more

They did an amazing job replacing the zip in a Giro technical windproof biking jacket. I really wasn't sure they would be able to do it given the lightweight, technical fabric, but I cannot tell this is not the original zip! Also, they are super pleasant and polite! read more

I have been coming here regularly for the last few months for both dry cleaning and alterations (hemming). There is very convenient parking out front. The owner is friendly and honest about what she thinks can be done/is worth it, etc. Prices are reasonable and turnaround is fast. I went there once and brought about five pieces of clothing including my wedding dress. While everything came back clean, two items came back damaged. my sweater ended up with holes in the elbows and my wedding dress had a stay poke through the material. didn't notice until i got home. not happy. only positive was that i was able to convinced them to charge me a little less for the wedding dress clean as it wasn't anything special (no lace, no beading, basically just a simple white dress) but then it came back damaged so you get what you pay for! read more

I came here to have my dress hemmed for a wedding. I made sure to get the alterations done early just in case. My experience getting fitted was very positive. The woman I worked with was sweet and fast. I left my dress feeling confident in their abilities. When I picked up my dress, I brought it home to try on and I found two grease stains on the front. I went back and they tried to blame me for putting the stains there. I had originally given them the dress brand new out of the packaging, the tags were still on. After a back and forth between the woman I originally worked with and another lady, they agreed to clean the dress and have it ready the morning of the wedding. (Side note, originally the 2nd woman suggested I leave with the stains and they will clean it after the fact. I was going to be in family photos!! No!) Thankfully they did not make me pay for the dry cleaning. However, there was still one stain on the dress when I got it back, but it was by the waist seam and less noticeable than on the skirt. After the wedding, I went to the 2nd dry cleaning company nearby and they got ALL the stains out. Overall, the hemming job was very good and fast. But you run the risk of their sewing station not being clean and getting grease stains on it, so I will not be going back. read more

Do not use this cleaner. I have had several problems with them, primarily around the excessive time they require, but I put up with it because they are convenient. This latest issue was too much, I won't be going back. I took a pair of slacks in for a zipper repair because they advertise "EXPERT ALTERATIONS". I initially had to wait several days because the seamstress apparently works only sporadically (I've never actually seen her/him, just the sewing machine in the front of the store). I was finally able to get my slacks after several days only to have the zipper pull come off in my hand. They had installed a zipper with no stop! When I took the slacks back they suggested it was a "defective zipper" and not the fault of the seamstress. It would be another 3 days and I could only pick them up after 5 (they close at 6). I explained that I needed them for work but they would not make any accommodation to pick them up earlier in the day and accused me of being rude when I suggested that any competent "expert" seamstress would know that a zipper without a stop wouldn't function! Clearly they are incompetent, have no concept of customer service and don't deserve your trust or your business. read more

I love Portola Cleaners. Not only are the just two minutes from my house, but the owners and staff are incredibly friendly and gracious. They always remember me and are pulling my information by the time I get to the counter. My clothes always come back beautiful, with no yucky dry cleaner chemical smell you get at some places. I get my dry cleaning done there as well as repairs and alterations. They've always done a great job, except one or two mistakes, which they quickly fixed. I'm hoping they'll go for a "green" dry cleaning system one day soon and they'll be perfect. read more

Really wanted to like this place because the lady in there is always friendly, but after 3 misfires, I think it's time to move on. Like a previous poster said, they write your name on shirts in permanent marker which is fine for my husband's shirts as he always wears them tucked in, but not fine for my shirts as I will sometimes leave them untucked. This last time, I dropped off a very expensive dress I had only worn once for dry cleaning and it came back with rips in the fabric around the buttoning. It looks like it was passed through a machine and the large, fancy buttons caught in the machine causing tears around each button. Unfortunately, I didn't notice until I tried to wear the dress again and the tears can't really be repaired because of the quality of the fabric and how it tore. I am so mad that a dress I spent so much money on and only wore once is now not really wearable anymore. Guess it was wrong of me to assume that dry cleaned clothes would be handled more delicately than what this place did. Beyond disappointed and won't be back. read more

This place is close to my house and has easy parking, so I was really hoping they would do a good job . Unfortunately, one visit was enough to let me know that I won't be going back. Luckily I was cautious, and decided to test them with only a small number of shirts. Their fees are $0.75 per shirt higher than I usually pay, which isn't a lot but it adds up, and the sign that advertises a discount before 9am does not include shirts. The worst part though is that every single shirt had creases pressed into them which made them basically unwearable. There are two other cleaners in that strip - I'll give them a try. read more

Update 11/15/11 I receive a call from the clerk informing me that I was given the wrong comforter!! For 3 months, I have been sleeping in someone else's comforter, yuck! I asked to meet with the owner because again, I wanted my 43$ refunded since I would have to dryclean MY comforter again(I am afraid it went to someone else's house). I was told by the clerk to come by at 3pm, the owner said she will meet me there. I drove down there and the clerk calls the owner who then says: I meant come tomorrow. Clearly, she has issues talking to people face to face. The phone conversation basically went like this: I needed to check the tag to makesure it was mine, just leave the other comforter and take mine, she didn't understand my frusteration, cleary she does not know the meaning of customer service. After we hung up, she called her clerk to yell at her, she didn't know I was still there! The clerk even admitted that it was her fault, and still the owner ignored my request. Bottom line is the owner of Portola Cleaner does not have people skills OR customer service skills. read more

I have gone to Portola Cleaners for two to three years now even when I moved out of the neighborhood I kept coming back. I was happy that nothing shrank too much and that nothing was damaged. Until this morning I was quite satisfied with their service until I realized they charged me twice (two sweaters). I hadn't even noticed until she counted it out loud and pointed out to me that I was paying for 4 items instead of the 3 they charged me for. I went back to the car and then woke up. I was like, I had three items. Two of my boyfriends coats and one cashmere cardigan that has a vest inside of it, I asked myself is she charging me the price of two sweaters for the two piece cardigan? When I brought it up to her she said they charged me incorrectly and that I had two sweaters. I told her so you count this as two sweaters? Pointing at the cardigan and she said yes. She was very angry and I felt ashamed for asking. I just said it was good to know that this is how they define two sweaters and left. I won't be going back again, very disappointed. read more
