Best dry cleaning experience EVER! I brought my suit and dress shirt in to them on a Monday afternoon to be cleaned and pressed. After updating my info on their computer (my phone # had changed), the owner asked me if Friday would be ok. After telling her that I had a funeral to attend on Thursday morning, she smiled and said, "Ok, your clothes will be ready Wednesday afternoon." This is typical of the phenomenal customer service at Burns Cleaners. On Wednesday, not only were my clothes cleaned and pressed to perfection, the price for the cleaning was only $15. Fifteen dollars! What a bargain for such great service. I've brought work uniform shirts in here before for alterations and have always been very pleased with their work. So a dear friend invited us to Roam Artisan Burger's opening party (yes, it's good - go try it). As someone's drunk date (probably first and last) was gesturing wildly, he lost control of his balance, as drunk young men often do, and started a domino effect that ended with an innocent bystander flinging his glass of red wine onto my newish yellow silk top. As I looked at the ugly red stains that were not supposed to be on my shirt, panic quickly ensued. But then I remembered I had Burns Cleaner on my side and they have never let me down. Burn's Cleaners has been cleaning my clothes for the last ten years and they have been as consistent as the sun rising each morning. I have never had a problem with them whatsoever and their cleaning methods are apparently organic. The owners are very honest as there have been a few occasions where I left money in my pants and they have returned my money with my clothes. They will also do minor repairs (replacing a button, fixing a hem) for you free of charge. They remember your name so that each time you drop off or pick up your clothes you do not have to tell them. Last but not least, they always offer to help you bring your clothes out to your car which is a nice touch. It is good to know that not all great customer service has disappeared. read more

So I never would have even thought about reviewing a dry cleaners before I walked in and saw their little yelp sticker on the window. Anyways, this place is in a great location in West Portal. There's two limited parking meters in front, where you can just drop by and drop/pick up your dry cleaning. Onto my experience: I came here today with my dad, just so I could see where he takes his dry cleaning and to dry clean some of my shirts too. The first thing the dry cleaner says is, "Is that your son? You look really handsome." Sucking up to me? Maybe, but thumbs up in my book! My dad always goes here and he's super picky about his clothes, so I figure their services can't be bad. When we asked to do 2 separate orders of my dad's shirts and my shirts, the man didn't complain. He told me that I could pick mine up next Monday, but I asked if I could get them by this Friday, and he said it would be no problem. Overall, this has been a great dry-cleaning experience for me. Sure, the shirts costs a little over $2/each to dry clean, but I'll definitely be returning here again. read more

It appears they have recently changed hands. I really liked the previous owner...she was very friendly. The new people who have taken over are just okay. I miss the other person who used to assist me whenever I dropped off my clothes or had something hemmed. I'm scratching my head over the previous review which was written about 3 months ago about switching management. I've been coming over here about once a week for a year and it's the same extremely nice ladies. Helen is a dream. She remembers you and your preferences after your first visit. On top of that, I've come here a couple of days before the promised date to see if, on an off chance, my clothes were ready (i really wanted to wear that specific dress) and it was. Nice people, decent prices, fantastic that they pick up & deliver so expeditiously. HORRIBLE that they ruined two of my very expensive jackets on two separate occasions! First time I tried them, the interior lining of one of my suit jackets was burnt & torn. I thought, it's not that noticeable & maybe it was a random accident. So I tried them again, they burned & completely very noticeable ruined the inside lining on my favorite jacket. Incredibly disappointing. I'm sure they're good with average things or perhaps inexpensive processed fabrics, but DO NOT trust them with anything that you cherish or paid a lot of money for, definitely not expensive materials. read more

I am always so thrilled with Burns Cleaners that I feel compelled to call and say thank you when I get my clothes home and open the bags. Every time I leave their store, I feel like I have a new wardrobe. The cleaning is incredibly thorough, I have no idea how everything comes back so new looking! I usually buy classic pieces that can be worn for many years, but eventually all clothes get a bit ratty -- Burns really saves the day on those garments. My favorite dress is almost 20 years old and Burns has it looking like I just purchased it last week. Also, their tailoring work is phenomenal !!!!!!!!! Know what else is really nice about Burns? If I could give this place zero stars after my experience this morning, I would! After reading such wonderful reviews and living only a few blocks from Burns Cleaners, I was excited to bring in my pants for alteration. I explained to the lady how I wanted my pants hemmed and tapered and she quickly fitted them. When I asked how much she said, "$14"...I said, "Wow. For being hemmed AND tapered? My other place was $24. Fantastic!" She gave me a slip and told me they would be ready on Thursday... I went in this morning and forgot my slip. He looked me up quickly and told me that it was $36. $36!? I told him that's not what I was told or agreed on and that I would of gone to my other place which charged $24. He said, at least 8 times, "Yes. $36. It's for alteration AND taper...lots of work". I told him I understand that but I was told $14 and $36 was NEVER discussed. The woman was standing near him and didn't even jump in to say anything! Not a "I forgot to mention" or "you're right. I never said that". She just stood there! I didn't want to fight and he said "How about $30". Whatever, sure. Not worth an argument over pants, but he was incredibly rude and I will not be going back. Oh, and they did a terrible job with the alteration. Made my pants "skinny" and left them baggy near the knees. $30 and a wasted $140 pair of pants...complete failure. read more

I tend to stay away from clothes that need to be dry cleaned or pressed but I do own a couple pieces that are the exception. Usually, I'll put them on my boyfriend's pile of things to take to the dry cleaners and he'll take care of them. He chose Burns initially because it was on his way to the MUNI station and super convenient. Now, he goes there because he loves the service and the fact the woman always remembers him. I recently dropped a ravioli (nightmare) on a white shirt and brown linen pants. I was convinced they'd have to be tossed. Burns Cleaners got the stains out and gave them a nice cleaning and pressing, all ready to wear to my next event. Thumbs up! read more

I wish Yelp allowed a zero star rating. I brought in an expensive blouse for dry cleaning and when I got it back it no longer fit. They completely stretched out the neckline to the point where it is now unwearable and good for the garbage. When I brought it back, the woman refused to take responsibility. She first blamed the manufacturer, and then the retailer. She said I should return "the defective" blouse to the store. What?!? I don't even remember where I bought it. She insisted that the material was below par and should not be dry cleaned. Okay - then why didn't she caution me when I brought it to her in the first place? Her brusque and argumentative manner was even more upsetting than the ruined garment. About a year ago I had the same experience with them but decided to give them another chance since after all, everyone is entitled to a mistake (although I didn't appreciate their rudeness in dealing with that matter either). This is one time too many. If you want to patronize an honest, reliable business go somewhere else. There are lots of other dry cleaners within walking distance. read more

I had been going to Burns cleaners for years and reasonably pleased with their work. However, I recently brought some of my husbands Tommy Bahama shirts to be cleaned and two of them came back still very spotty. They tried to clean them again, which left some of the spots lighter than original color. I complained, as the shirts are quite expensive. All they said was that subsequent cleaning would even out the color. My husband said to let it go not to argue with them. Well I wasn't going to go back to them, but decided to give them another chance. I brought a white jacket of mine to be cleaned, as I got some brown fluff from Stargazer lillies on the lapel, otherwise it clean. My husband picked it up. And I was really upset when I saw it, as it was no longer white - it had a kind of pink cast to it and no longer fit well. My daughter luckily bought one just like it and in the same size. Which I brought with me to show them the difference. The Korean man talked me into letting him try to fix the color and stretch the jacket. So long story short the color was somewhat better, but the fit still not great. And there was a spot in the front of the jacket and two on the back (which were not there to begin with). I went back down with proof of what I paid for my jacket and told him I wanted to be reimbursed. And we're not talking a lot of money. I got it at Nordstrom's for $79 - nice look and feel. It was a great little jacket. So the lady behind the counter calls him and he looks at the spots and he says "oh I remember your jacket - it was full of spots" I spent a lot of time on time on it". No - you spent a lot of time trying to get the dinginess out and stretching it. So they talk back and forth in their language, and the lady says - we will give you $30. I looked at them and said NO - took my jacket and left. Not a good way to treat long-time customers. Very angry - you've lost my business! BYE-BYE Burns Cleaners! read more
