Wedding VERY last minute alterations, absolutely outstanding!!! I'm 5months pregnant and discovered my wedding dress will no longer zip up on Sunday (note: the zipper was on the back from panty line all the way up to the bottom of neck) worst part was... My wedding was on that coming Friday! I needed to hunt down a location that could remove the zipper completely and alter it to an open back dress and of course hem the bottom to be shorter in the front with the long length in the back. I went to 2 different cleaners and explained what I wanted to do to when I needed it by.. I was turned away both times. I found Flamingo here on Yelp just when I lost hope.. I thought let's just try! I strolled in at 6:30p just before they were about to close. She had me try on the dress, explained what I wanted and she was shocked how much work in such a short time I needed it by! She took her measurements and pinned me up and told me she will call me with pricing and if it'll be ready in time. Got a call the next day that it would $80 and ready by Thursday 5p!!! Quick and friendly, pricing is very fair. I've used them for dry cleaning as well as alterations. They have a little changing room in the back in case you need to try on the clothes before they tailor it. The turnaround time is pretty quick and I have never had them "ruin" anything. I called about a last minute alteration request for a bridesmaid dress that was just not quite right. Over the phone, everything sounded good. I was reassured there would be no problem, they could even do it in a few days. I confidently walked down the block to Flamingo, excited for this chore to be almost over. I tried on the ugly, mis-fitting dress and sat in front of two woman as they made ohhhing and ahhing noises, then they began to argue in Chinese, not saying anything to me in English beyond grunts. About twenty minutes passed. I was told the dress did not seem to have the snaps on one side of the straps and I should take it back for a new, smaller size. I looked in horror. The wedding is in a few days! They then told me, "The dress was 'unalterable' but the style of this dress is 'romantic' and flowing" so they decided it looked OK on me. I explained that I am 5'3" so I know that the dress is way too long on me, as well as the straps and chest area fit wrong. They repeated themselves, "the dress was 'unalterable' but the style of this dress is 'romantic' and flowing". So I leave, on the verge of tears with my one strap broken, "unalterable" dress. I go home and get out a needle and thread and sew the damn strap on myself. Somehow the other bridesmaids had their (same) dresses altered in a similar time frame. I think Flamingo Dry Cleaners & Alterations is just lazy when it comes to alternation. read more

I've tried these guys for alterations before and they did a good job and it was affordable but every time I go there it takes them 5 minutes to find your clothes. They have a very poor organizational system that made me really nervous once as it took them 10 minutes to find a bridesmaids dress. Absolutely amazing alterations! I brought in three vintage dresses that were a huge pain in the butt to re-size. One dress was taken down 2-3 sizes throughout -- very difficult to do -- another dress had be altered at the neck and reattached at the collar, and still another had crossed straps in the back that needed to be adjusted for a whole new fit in the bodice. I picked up the items yesterday and it was like they were tailor made for me, from scratch! I have never seen alterations performed so well, much less on such complicated pieces. When I first went in, the seamstress working that day spent a good amount of time pinning the items on me and getting the fit just right. We had to chat a bit about what was just right and what was too tight for me -- but I expect that, since she isn't a mind reader. She was reasonably patient with my "a little looser please" and "just a little more." I brought in 6 items in total (the other three were just a simple let out and a couple hooks and buttons) and picked them up two weeks later, as scheduled. I thought the price was more than reasonable for the work performed. As a tiny person with a love for vintage clothes -- you know, clothes offered one off in a single size -- I'm very happy to have found Flamingo. read more

Great turnaround time! I went in with a load of shirts and sweaters that needed to be laundered and dry cleaned, and they got it done by the next afternoon. Tons of places claim to be "one hour cleaners", but it's all false advertisement. One day turnaround is fantastic. Also, they're very reasonably priced. In terms of actual cleanliness, they got a stain out of a sweater that I have (soy sauce on cashmere, yikes!). The only complaint I have is that they don't use smaller hangers for women's shirts (I still haven't found a dry cleaner in SF who doesn't use men's shirt hangers for women's shirts - they are different!), and the collar was kind of bent out of shape. I've been to this place a couple times for minor things, but recently I went in a little nervous, with a leather jacket and a silk dress. I was especially unnerved because of the "liability" card that I needed to sign saying that I couldn't do anything if they ruined the leather... Turns out I had nothing to fear! Not only was the leather cleaned wonderfully but the lining is also spotless. It looks as good as it did when I first bought it. All for only $45. Considering most leather places are around $75, I can't imagine a better place to go. Also my silk dress is finished beautifully. Found this Cleaners on Yelp, since I didn't want to pay $ 18. to clean a suit in Westlake. Glad I did. The ladies here are polite and correct and deliver a well cleaned garment for -- what seems like -- the best price in town. Value is very important as we free fall into the 2008 recession. The location is easy and very near the Bosworth 280 FW exit. Free parking is usually a block or two away. One caveat, DO NOT LOSE OR FORGET YOUR TICKET. On occasion, they are hard put to find your garments ; without a ticket you will surely be inconvenienced. Overall a good value Cleaner. read more

Alterations are very well priced, and I've been satisfied with each one [which is saying a lot considering how long I've been using their services.] They're open until 7 too, which is a nice touch in case I get home a little late from work. Considering that this dry cleaner is a mere block from my house, I decided to try it out. The first couple of times, everything worked out just fine -- my clothes came back clean and nicely pressed. But my husband just brought home the most recent batch, and it's not pretty. The leather buttons on my tweed jacket are totally ruined -- all torn up and stained. Every one will have to be replaced. Unfortunately, we didn't notice this until the jacket had been hanging in my closet for a week, so I doubt there's any recourse. I'll just never go back. read more

Just grazing five-oh, it's nigh impossible to find pants that fit. My shopping routine involves excitedly grabbing 13 or so pairs of pants off the rack, shimmying hopefully into them, and then staring disconsolately into the mirror at the extra foot of fabric bunching around my ankles. I've settled for being grateful to find pants that are a rough approximation of my torso on down and bringing 'em to Flamingo for tailoring. The women who work here are super careful; they measure and check with you on the front end to make sure everything is as you want them; their hemming and waist-taking-in is totally professional quality; and they make sure you're happy with the end results. A couple of times they've re-hemmed things for me at no additional charge; last time I was in they gave me a discount (perhaps because I've brought like two dozen pairs of pants to them at this point), and their prices are totally reasonable to begin with. And thanks to them, I don't look like Charlie Chaplin when I sashay down the street. read more

Wow! This place has changed. I first brought my clothes here for alterations back in January. The ladies did meticulous work on my suits. Soon after finding this gem, I moved down to Santa Barbara for work so I haven't been here in a while. This past weekend, I went back up to SF to visit my parents and I dropped off some suits to be dry cleaned. And holy smokes! This place looks amazing! They completely remodeled the whole store. It's relatively the same layout but everything is brand new. I love the new flooring--much more inviting than those red tiles they used to have. Keep up the amazing work ladies! I live about a block from this place. The ladies that work here are always very polite and friendly. They are a good, reliable Dry Cleaners. My mom used to go to this place that would soemtimes shrink our clothes, but everything I've taken to Flamingo comes back looking as good as new. Sometimes, I wish the cleaning turn-around time were a little faster (though one reviewer mentioned getting her clothes back in a day, it's always taken two or three days to get cleaning back for me). I cannot recommend their dry cleaning service based on my initial experience: - They don't do the cleaning on-site, which often means it's outsourced to someone else - I made a specific request on a garment and they failed to do it - Most of my sweaters/blouses were folded/buttoned incorrectly on the hanger (they can really look jacked if they stay on the hanger that way) - They had difficulty finding my clothes without the pink slip read more

Flamingo is in neighborhood & used them in the past with no problems for dry cleaning & alterations so I returned to have two skorts (shorts under) shorten as okay on waist & hips. I was so disappointed when I got home as they were three(3) inches shorter in front than back. I spoke to their employee, Mandy who did the hemming & asked me to bring them back in which I did. I modeled one for her which I noticed also the skort jacked up in front so she used some chalk on skort to mark new hem line as I turned around in a circle for her. To my dismay the chalk lines were so uneven it was shocking. I ordered these from Duluth clothing & wasn't cheap. So I wasn't about to let her correct her problem with the crooked chalk lines. My daughter referred me to another cleaners to correct situation & we determined the front was 16 inches long, sides were 18 inches & back was 19 inches on hem completed by Flamingo. By the way there was no offer to return my moneys by Flamingo employee. She said she wasn't the owner. I wish I had left message for owner regarding money's. In all fairness as I stated in the beginning alterations were okay in past but this was a disaster. I would have felt better had she apologized but got a little uppity when I told her I wanted to take elsewhere. Be careful out there. read more
