I give three stars for friendly service. Helen is kind and accommodating. Her cake itself was not even as good as a Vons birthday cake. No exaggeration, her butter frosting tastes just like cold butter with no sugar. Several guests commented on it. I've never ever experienced frosting that is legitimately cold butter. It was wild. Cake decor was close to what we discussed, but edging was more butter and no chocolate frosting edging as we discussed. Cake was average, not very moist or great in flavor. The filling was the only thing about the cake that was delicious. The handwriting on the cake, was amateur at best. I think they should go back to the drawing board and take some cake writing classes. Maybe her cakes covered in fondant are what she's known for? She went on and on about how delicious her cakes are and she only uses the most expensive ingredients...I've been buying cakes and ordering cakes for clients for years and I would beg to differ based on below average taste. I wish the owners of this bakery the best, but this is the first and last time I buy a cake from Maksen. read more

The cake and cupcakes I had made by this bakery were the worse I've ever eaten. The cupcakes were hard, dry and overbaked. The icing just covered up how dark they were. We ordered a custom star shaped cake, that had both chocolate and vanilla cake/ frosting. The cake was incredible and the design was done perfectly. That's not all, we also had an issue where we could not pick up the cake on the scheduled day (our fault). The lovely woman said she would hold onto the cake and come in on her day off for us to pick it up, which was incredible and took a huge weight off our shoulders. I was looking for a very very last minute cake and I called this shop for the first time. Helen was the one who took my order over the phone. I had explained to her that I needed a last minute very girly cake and that I was near her shop to pick up within half an hour. Delicios fruit tart! Fresh fruit and a lot of custard, my only "problem" I guess I can say or criticize would be the cookie it's either way too thick or too hard but you have to eat with a real fork and stab it down in order to literally break apart. Eating it is delicious I have nothing bad to say about the fruit tart by far it's superb. Again the only thing would be the cookie being very hard to cut while eating you need a good amount of pressure to cut through but once you cut a bite size it's fine.
