I can't overstate what an amazing experience we had at Poseidon. Having celiac disease makes eating out difficult, and we arrived at Poseidon having been turned away from other restaurants that could not guarantee the food safety. We spoke to the manager, Misty, who went above and beyond walking us through what was safe on the menu and then personally over seeing the preparation of our food. Our server Barb was also so caring and wonderful. The whole staff was so cautious and kind and completely turned our whole night around. The food was delicious and safely gluten free for me. I took my wife and mother here for a late mother's day lunch. We arrived shortly after 11 and had plenty of outdoor options for seating. I did note how later in the lunch hour it got pretty crowded here. We had very good service for our meal. I had the ovi lunch combo with crab soup, Mediterranean salad, and half an oyster poy boi. Soup was delicious as was the salad. The sandwich was good too and maybe was a little over powering with sesame seeds flavor. My husband, mother in law, and I stopped in here of lunch around 11:30 am on a Tuesday morning. We sat outside which was shaded and nice and cool compared to the 80 degree day. There were very few people at the restaurant at that time. The waiter came over right away and took our drinks. The menu was very extensive, ranging from oysters, sushi, and appetizers to entrees, sandwiches, tacos and burgers. We all opted to do the lunch combination. I decided to go with three items - 1/2 turkey sandwich, grain and brussel sprouts slaw and the baja salad. Everything was really tasty. The salad had a lot of items in it and the chili ranch was a nice touch. The sandwich had a ton of turkey on it, almost more than I needed. The slaw was probably my favorite - sweet but a nice blend of textures. Overall, the food was solid, portion sizes were generous, waiter was on top of it, a great atmosphere, and there was food to take home. A solid lunch spot! read more

After reading all the rave reviews about this place I had such high expectations. There is always a captive audience of tourists so it's not surprising how busy they always are. I grew up in a coastal area so good seafood is not a rarity for me. Our party got seafood platters, the gumbo (had a different name) steak and kids' meals. We also got the Bavarian Pretzels. Dipping sauce was great. The sides of vegetables were undercooked and barely seasoned. Seafood itself was tasty but again under seasoned and nothing notable. Fries were also very plain and unimaginative ( even those not in kids' meals). The good news is breaded items were breaded lightly. I found it strange to have non regional seafood dishes on the menu. The gumbo dish was delicious and savory. A great selection and group favorite. Service was fast and friendly but there is nothing exceptional to bring me back again. I'll skip the crowd and stick to the fresh catch at the Piggly Wiggly or Barnacle Bill's seafood stand next time. read more

Many folks say Poseidon Coastal Cuisine is one of the best restaurants on Hilton Head Island for traditional South Carolina low country seafood. This is a popular spot for low country seafood, their raw bar, cocktails and fun along with offering some amazing views of beautiful scenery. I had the opportunity to visit here a few times during a trip to Hilton Head Island. Poseidon Coastal Cuisine is owned by a large restaurant group that owns many restaurants on Hilton Head Island. This is a really popular spot for both the bar scene here along with their restaurant. They have three bars and two stories in this space with the outdoor patio bar appearing to be the most popular bar. There is an indoor raw bar where you can see your raw oysters and sushi being prepared. The upstairs bar is also surrounded by a balcony on two sides that gives some of the best views in this establishment but on certain nights they have live music and charge a cover for the band. During my time in Hilton Head I did visit the upstairs bar to watch a band but the band was not very good and there was a quick transition to the outside patio to watch the sun set before heading off to other places with better entertainment. I ate two meals here with the first being underwhelming and the second being much better. My first meal was Poseidon's Fresh Catch where I selected the Mahi Mediterranean Coast Style and I just found it wasn't prepared very well along with being a small portion of fish for the price. My second meal was started with a good She Crab Soup and then I got the Broiled Seafood Collection which was a really nice sampler of flounder, shrimp, deviled crab and scallops which was far more pleasurable to eat than the Fresh Catch as it had much more flavor along with the flounder being more delicious and much better prepared than the Mahi was. Sigh. I need to open a restaurant at the beach so I can wildly overcharge patrons just because they are a captive audience. Our meal was probably the saltiest food to ever be served on planet Earth. They had to take my brother-in-law's steak off the bill - he requested medium rare, but it arrived WELL done. We came on a Saturday because the Yelp listing said it had brunch for the weekend, only to find out that they only offered brunch on Sunday. Scott was super cool at the bar and he recommended the French Bakery down the way for breakfast, and so my fiancé was able to go get a waffle and bring it back. I thought that was super cool of him, and I hope it doesn't cause him trouble. We would come back just to see Scott. I had a Bloody Mary which was great, and a Lobster Roll (served warm) with drawn butter that was fantastic. The view of the swamp (better known as the inland marshes) was super cool and the place had a laid-back island vibe to it that was perfect for a Saturday morning/early afternoon. Arrived at the restaurant and checked in. Thankfully we had a reservation. Since we were a little early, our table wasn't ready yet. While waiting several people entered and weren't wearing masks. It was upsetting to see that no one (even management who walked by them several times) said anything to them. Even though according to all signs around the island, wearing masks is "allegedly" the law. Clearly that isn't enforced at this establishment! Everyone was completely uncomfortable and it was so bad that some people opted to place "to go" orders or just leave altogether. After heavy conversation with my husband I decided to stay, as he had surprised me by bringing me to Hilton Head Island for the weekend and since we LOVE the Poseidon restaurant in San Diego (which we discovered isn't the same) and had so many amazing memories there I couldn't break my husbands heart by just leaving because patrons wanted to ignore the law and staff said nothing. After 20 mins of waiting past our reservation time, I asked how could we still be waiting if we had a reservation. The hostess informed me that there was a blend of waitlist and reservations that were being seated. I'm puzzled at how waitlist is blended in with reservations. What's the point of making them especially on a busy weekend like Valentines if someone on a waitlist can be sat before someone with a reservation. After 35 mins of waiting, we finally got seated. After being seated we were greeted by Melissa! She was awesome and to be clear, it is because of her and the quality of the food that I even gave two stars. Her recommendations were spot on and her bubbly personality shined through (even with her wearing a mask)! Melissa I hope your management knows how valuable you are! If we hadn't got you I would've given zero stars if possible. As for how they are handling Covid beyond not enforcing masks, the booths have tall plexiglass in place. The tables were not socially distanced. In fact, a table was smack in front of my booth. They definitely aren't scaling back capacity so know that as well if you decide to dine here. read more

This is my new favorite. Southern, midwestern seafood favorite. My mother being from California wanted Coconut shrimp and/or shrimp scampi. Those are not at this restaurant. I'll tell you , the young lady that served us was SOOOOOOOOO polite. I could have kicked my mother under the table, but she called her ma'am and respected her as a lady who was having a bad night. Arriving at Poseidon, you will learn this restaurant is inside the Plaza towards the back facing the park. There is plenty of parking and an option to sit indoors/outdoors.
