Cute, local pizza & beer place. Nice selection of local beer - the pizza is very good! And just saw they added pizza but I have not tried it yet, but it looked good. Kid friendly, pet friendly - I love that. Big TV's with sports on, but still a homey vibe.and not overly loud. Wish I could do 4.5 stars... I only took off a 1/2 because there is one bartender that is not always friendly... well he is, but to his regulars or his friends, not sure which & he can kind of ignore you. I had an excellent time here. The interior design is very nice, with a very long bar plus a lot of table seating. The large open window on the street brings in light and air. The staff are excellent--I had nice conversations with several of them. They have an excellent list of craft beer, and I enjoyed my pizza. The other customers were nice, too. So what else could you ask for. This spot is just up the block from the (new in July 2018) Benchmark Brewing tasting room. The two make an excellent combo for a mini bar crawl. read more

I wish I could leave two reviews... Love coming here for a beer and it has a lovely atmosphere. They recently started to offer food, so decided to try it out. The pizza was WAY too expensive for what it was. Food was ok, but not worth the $17 to $24 that it ended up totaling up to. If you read these reviews, Poseidon Project - Please review your prices. Pizza is good but overpriced. 18 dollars for a pizza that wouldn't fill up my husband is ridiculous- AND this is in Pb. Went in to try the pizza from their new oven and LOVED it! We had the Meat Baller - loved the generous amount of ricotta (my favorite topper on a pie). Such a great addition to an awesome beer selection and atmosphere. Owner Nate is often there and super friendly and attentive - you can tell he takes pride in providing a quality experience for his customers. This place is fantastic - the staff is friendly, there's beer and wine (rosé with pizza? yes please!), and most importantly, their food is amazing! We've had their wings, the Caprese salad, and several pizzas. My personal favorite is the sausage and cherry pepper one with their homemade hot honey added to it. SO GOOD! read more

Between the solid list of craft beers that are constantly rotating, the friendly staff, the great atmosphere, and now the new haven style pizza.. this is my new favorite spot. Very chill, cozy and laid back vibe. We had the entire lounge to ourselves which is a rare opportunity in San Diego, I'd chalk it up to it being a weekday evening. I hate going to places where you can't hear your own conversation because it's too loud and rowdy. They only had one kind of white wine available but I'm not particularly picky and I know this isn't necessarily a wine kinda establishment. Service was super attentive and on top of their game. I've been to Poseidon several times but wanted to write this review after trying their newly opened pizza oven this weekend! The pizza was delicious and they have some unique combinations. We had the veggie with pepperoni added and it was exactly what we wanted. My husband and I agreed though that for $17 pizza it should be served on a real plate rather than paper. The beer list is always different with things in our preferred styles. I am glad to have PP in the neighborhood and hope the yummy pizza brings in more foot traffic! read more

This is my spot! I'm not a pizza connoisseur by any means, but Poseidon gets my vote for best pizza in San Diego. I live in the Bay Park area and have been coming here pretty frequently since they first opened, and it's slowly become one of my favorite places to stop in for a beer and some food. It has that small-neighborhood vibe to it (which I love), a decent selection of beer and wine (which I also love), good parking (I'd rather sit on a street cone than go somewhere that I have to search for parking), and the staff is always fun to talk to. It's also pup friendly which is cool because I don't have a dog, and that means I get to pet yours while I enjoy my beer. High fives. read more

Came here for the pizza and beer. Cool atmosphere, there's a bar and TV too. Plenty of great craft beers on tap. The pizza was good but a bit over priced. I think the owners are the same as Basic dtown. At Poseidon Project though, it's $18 for a regular sized pepperoni thin crust that was gone in five mins so we ordered a second. $18 was a lot for non-gourmet pizzas IMO. read more

Surprised I never wrote a review of this place, have been here at least 5-6 times. Most of the time, the overall experience is very good. The beer list is always good. Lots of local, and other cali brewers, usually some of the smaller or hard to find one's. The pizza has also been very good on most of the occasions, especially the Meatball and Sausage and Pepper versions. A couple of times it seemed they were short staffed and the service took a while for food and quality was a bit off. Front of the house is usually pretty quick to grab drinks. I gave up on the wings, just not good. Wish they had another salad or 2 besides a caprese. Very kid and dog friendly. Cople of big screen TV's with games on. A great stop in if bar hopping on Morena Blvd and surrounding area. read more

So I go in there on a Monday evening around 5:30 pm to meet a buddy. Place is completely empty. No one there. Ok fine. The guy sitting at the bar watching TV and reading his iPad is apparently the bartender. I get a lame greeting, but he doesn't get up from sitting at the bar. It goes downhill from there. My buddy shows up and we're looking at the paper beer menu, which is confusing because it has things crossed out, making it hard to read what's on tap and available. Then I look at the taps to see what the handles are. There are about 6 or 7 handles with names, and two without handles (but they don't have cups on them or anything). I assume that means those have no beer on them, but who knows, right? Maybe they just don't have handles to match what they're pouring. Or, these days a lot of places have tons of taps without any handles at all, so you can't tell by looking at the handles. Which is why you need an accurate and easy to read beer menu, perhaps with something current and up to date on a chalkboard, a dry erase board, or something. Maybe Mr. Bartender could have been updating it instead of watching ESPN on his iPad. Not here. So I ask something like, "So are you just pouring what's listed on the handles or are you pouring any beers on the taps without handles?" Keep in mind the place has NO ONE there - just me and my buddy. Immediately, the guy gives me attitude, and says something like "Duh, are you that stupid that I have to explain it to you?" So after a little back and forth, trying to lighten things up, his attitude gets even worse. So I say, "Wow, you need to treat your customers with some respect. I don't need to be here. You've been open for six months and the place is empty right now. I can go somewhere else." It gets worse, with this clown throwing a full on tantrum behind the bar, throwing his hat off, cursing us out, and telling us he doesn't need our business or care about it. Wow, dude. You just said the magic words. We are OUT. Seeing as I've been going to bars for 35 years, I was pretty stunned. Never seen anything so rude or disconnected from reality, nor have I ever been treated like that. So we promptly left without ordering anything, and went over to Luce, which was full and vibrant with cheerful and patient bartenders. If the sole guy who worked at Poseidon Project on Monday, May 16, 2016, isn't the owner, he should be fired immediately. He has zero customer service skills and shouldn't be in the bar business. If he does own the place, I hope it dies a slow, painful death as a result of his crappy attitude, zero business acumen, and complete lack of respect for customers. He has no idea what he's doing. Bottom line: I can't rate the beer, because I was so turned off by his attitude that I didn't order anything. But as far as I can tell this is not a cool neighborhood place by any means. If the d-bag working tonight is going to be running the place, AVOID AT ALL COSTS. Go elsewhere. Someplace that will welcome your presence and your money. Poseidon Project won't. They are off my list and I will never recommend the place. read more

This is place is awful. We've tried to like it because we want to support our local restaurants and bars, however this place lacks character and life. Most recently my husband and some friends came after their work party. They had open containers (I was sober) as we walked in. Instead of them telling us that we couldn't bring in outside beverages, a man who claimed to be the owner gave us an entire speech, I'm talking like a 10 minute speech on why it's inappropriate to bring in outside beverages. I wanted to give him a speech on why it's important to be nice to people who are paying to keep the lights on. But instead we ordered a $20+ pizza and finished our drinks. I knew we should've just went home. This place is always such a disappointment. I give them 6 months. read more

When they moved into the neighborhood, I was initially excited as I was hoping to have a place that had all the local beers without going to a brewery (with limited selections). In the first few years, it was a work in progress, which was to be expected and I understood. They changed the coolers and seating areas, painted some walls, started selling swag. Prices were always a bit high. In the most recent months, they added a kitchen and took out some more seating. Twice we have come in to have a drink and were charged over $21 for a canned pilsner and a glass of wine. Another time, we came in on a Tuesday to see if anything had changed and hoped to get some food. Not much had changed, still very pricey for a beer, wine was "ok" and the pizzas were priced $18 for a pepperoni. Both TV's were playing MMA fights, two different fights (whatevs, I don't mind, but I suspect no main cards are battling on a tuesday). The most recent stop visit, maintained my mindset on the Poseidon Project. I entered, saw a big sign that said "Order Before Seating". I wanted to get a pizza and a beer. I waited there near the register and sign, for close to 5 minutes. It wasn't busy, the bartender was going back and forth, talking to another worker sitting behind the bar at the far end. Another minute later, one of the bartender's buddies came in and got served instantly. I get it, its your boy. You guys had that one weird weekend in Austin, when you purchased matching flat bill hats. I'm irked because this seems to be the standard type of service at this establishment. It shouldn't be a surprise that the restaurants within 70 yards are always busy and PP closes early when you continuously get this type of service and price point. High Points: they got a nice paint job inside. Dog friendly. read more
